Per Deadline, Arienne Mandi (The Night Agent) has just been cast as a series regular in Chicago P.D. Season 13, filling in the void left by Turner's departure. Mandi is playing the role of Naomi Kerr, described as a "former soldier and military contractor who is said to thrive in dangerous situations," as well as a "fearless outsider who keeps her cards close to the vest." As Chicago Pd gears up to begin production on its new season next month, it seems Wolf Entertainment and NBC wanted to make sure one key member of the cast was locked in for the new season well in advance!

Deadline has confirmed that Jason Beghe will be back for season 13, guaranteeing Hank Voight will not be going anywhere. Beghe is still under a multi-year deal, with it seeming that NBC simply opted to pick up his option for the 2025-26 season.

While we know that Beghe will be back for season 13, the status of the rest of the Chicago Pd cast remains unclear. The hope is that the full ensemble will return for the show’s forthcoming season, this includes Marina Squerciati (Kim Burgess), Patrick John Flueger (Adam Ruzek), Laroyce Hawkins (Kevin Atwater), Benjamin Levy Aguilar (Dante Torres), Toya Turner (Kiana Cook), and Amy Morton (Trudy Platt), all of whom are hoped to return.

"I love Jack. We went out to dinner recently. As an actor, you’re always like, 'Can I be in the show still? What’s going on?'... I actually don't know to what extent [Jack will be in next season]." One Chicago went big in 2025. It had six years since the franchise brought all three of its titles together for a singular narrative event, but "In the Trenches" proved to be worth the wait. It was a delight to see the characters interact, and to save lives on a citywide scale that, frankly, they don't usually need to.

Because there are three episodes, and three shows, with their specific narrative requirements, we decided to break down "In the Trenches" and determine which part of the story worked best, and which fell short a bit. We like them all, but here's always going to be one hour chunk in a crossover that plays better than others. Here we go, from worst to best.

It doesn't come more lovable than Mouch (Christian Stolte) on Chicago Fire. He's one of the most consistent members of Firehouse 51, and his steady presence has helped to save countless lives over the last 13 seasons. 2025 has been a particularly rough period for the firefighter, though, and the latest batch of episodes has proved it.

Let's start with the One Chicago crossover. Mouch got into a spat with his wife, Chicago Pd standout Trudy Platt (Amy Morton), only to discover her gunned down during a chase. The character rushed to her side in the hospital, and was forced to stand by as she flatlined and came back multiple times. It's a devastating crossover to watch from his perspective, and one we thought would serve as an outlier for the Mouch stories to come.

Weddings are pretty commonplace on Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, but Pd has never been one to go all out. This will be a first, and as such, we think it's important that a few characters from 51 get an invite. The most obvious Chicago Fire character who should be present for the Burzek wedding is one Mouch (Christian Stolte). The character is married to Trudy Platt (Amy Morton), who absolutely will be present, so that's a no-brainer.

There are a lot of dangling plot threads to address post-"Born of Fire," but the title of the follow up episode, leads us to believe that the Molly's Pub expansion will be getting more screen time. The One Chicago shows love their crossovers but which ones are the best and worst?

One Chicago has always been a fantastic universe to enjoy. Chicago Fire, Chicago Pd and Chicago Med are genius at how they make it so natural to coexist. Characters from one show can pop into another without looking obtrusive and distracting. There's also the great relationships across the shows from the Halstead brothers to Mouch and Trudy's marriage.

Crossovers between the shows are thus commonplace with NBC often doing special events across all three series. Some are better than others, with the best linking the shows together with a good storyline and character work. The weaker ones don't really offer a reason they need to be linked together when one episode could have done it.

Let’s face it, Chicago Fire can sometimes become the Stellaride show. There has been a push to offer Violet and Ritter more storylines, but there is always a lot of focus on the two lieutenants in the firehouse. That’s not to say we’re complaining—we love them! However, there are others at Firehouse 51 who deserve more love and attention.

This was the first crossover event since 2019, and the fans loved it.

Unfortunately, the crossover nearly killed Trudy Platt (Amy Morton).

Trudy was shot multiple times during that critical episode, and she flatlined on the table at Chicago Med.
