Naomi and Wynonna Judd famously performed for years as the mother-daughter duo, The Judds. The group disbanded in 1991 due to Naomi’s health problems. Her daughter went on to have a successful solo career. The Judds reunited many, many times over the years for special events or nationwide tours. They were supposed to embark on what was dubbed their final tour in the fall of 2022.

Sadly, Naomi Judd’s past demons caught up with her and she took her own life in April, a few months before the tour.

Image
Wynonna Judd shared the special way in which she plans to keep her late mother, Naomi Judd’s, spirit alive during her family’s first holiday season without their matriarch.

While speaking with E! News on the 2022 CMA Awards red carpet on Wednesday, the 58-year-old singer revealed that Naomi, who died by suicide in late April, will be honoured through home-cooked meals.

Wynonna Judd, Waxahatchee Make Mellow Indie-Folk Gold on New Collab ‘Other Side’
Image
Wynonna Judd and Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield make surprising and superb duet partners on “Other Side,” a collaborative single that mark’s Wynonna’s first new music since the 2020 covers EP Recollections.

It’s a lean arrangement that’s led off by a descending acoustic guitar progression and Cactus Moser’s drums, mellow enough to belie its breezy tempo. Wynonna sets the tone in the opening verse, singing from a place of independence and optimism about what’s ahead. “Say my peace like an offhand prayer, I’m living a grain of sand,...

Where is she? Where is Naomi Judd?

I’m sitting in the CMA Theater at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Wynonna and Ashley Judd are sitting up front with Wy’s son Elijah on one side and Wy’s husband and current musical partner, Cactus Moser, on the other. The program is beginning. The Judds are being inducted as the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and this is a moment I’ve been dreaming about with Naomi for years. But she is not here.

At this point in her career, Wynonna’s pretty much been there and done that. As one half of the Judds with her mother Naomi, the performer achieved fame nearly 40 years ago and, with her mom, became one of country’s most successful duos in history. As a solo artist, she showcased an even wider range of her talent, branching out into soulful pop and blues-rock like “No One Else on Earth” alongside country balladry like “To Be Loved by You.”

Wynonna Previews New EP With Cover of Slim Harpo’s ‘King Bee’
Image
Grammy-winning country performer Wynonna will perform covers of John Prine, Fats Domino, and others on her upcoming EP, Recollections. Due out October 30th via Anti- Records, the project’s first release is a down-and-dirty version of Slim Harpo’s “King Bee.”

Largely recorded at Wynonna’s farm in Tennessee during quarantine, the EP retains the looseness of an at-home jam session being captured on tape. Wynonna and her husband, musician Cactus Moser, worked on the recordings together. “King Bee” is a swampy blues number, full of barbed electric guitars and slide riffs,...

Bob Weir Joins Wynonna Judd Onstage for the Judds’ ‘Why Not Me’
Wynonna Judd
Nearly six years ago, when Wynonna Judd announced her new recording project and formed the band called Wynonna & the Big Noise, her move to a more Americana-leaning musical direction, encompassing country, rock, soul, blues, and more, was, in the singer’s own words, “life-changing.” Since the 2016 release of the band’s self-titled debut, which features her husband Cactus Moser on drums, the Kentucky-born powerhouse has continued to defy expectations — a practice that continued with the group’s Thursday night tour stop in San Francisco.

Taking the stage of the historic...

Wynonna Releases Cover of ‘Feeling Good,’ Talks Creative Renaissance
Wynonna Judd
There’s a massive, mostly empty room at the center of Wynonna Judd’s house with a large picture window that looks out across her farm south of Nashville. The view from the only chair in the room, which Wynonna calls her “prayer chair,” is a serene pasture and pond. The high, vaulted ceilings make singing in that room an acoustic dream, with the bare walls providing natural reverb.

This is where Wynonna recorded her a cappella performance of the standard “Feeling Good” (premiering today), and it all just happened...

Naomi Judd on Her ‘Emotional’ Relationship with Daughter Wynonna: ‘We Scare Each Other Because We Can Go So Deep’
Wynonna Judd
For more than a year, Naomi Judd kept her depression hidden from daughter Wynonna, only admitting the depths of her troubles after she spent a week and a half in a psychiatric ward.

“Wynonna and I make each other so emotional it’s not healthy,” Judd tells People of their complicated mother-daughter relationship, which has, in large part, played out in the spotlight as country duo The Judds. Naomi says she kept Wynonna at arm’s length because she was worried how learning of her illness might affect her daughter.

“We are so empathic, we can look at each other...

When it comes to cultural impact, mega-sales and drama, this year’s Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards is going to have an awfully difficult time competing with last year’s category.

"As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto, killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three other crew members," the statement reads.
