He was raised in Amherst, Massachusetts, by a mother who ran a secondhand children's clothing store and a father who opened a nonprofit community music school.
Has two daughters, Sasha (b. 2007) and Mirabelle (b. 2009), with photographer Yelena Yemchuck.
