Lots of Marvel Comics heroes got to star in cartoons during the 1990s, but not the Mighty Thor. The Thunder God didn't even appear in the "Power Rangers" inspired (and swiftly canceled) "Avengers: United They Stand."
However, in the late 1990s, there actually was a Thor cartoon in development — just not about the Thor who Marvel fans are familiar with. One of the men involved was prolific cartoon writer Henry Gilroy. As Gilroy tells it, he met famous model Fabio Lanzoni by chance. When he learned Gilroy worked in animation, Fabio's interest piqued. Fabio had previously done a Thor costume fitting for Stan Lee, who had been hoping to sell a Thor TV series. That experience made Fabio want to actually play Thor, in a cartoon and then a movie.

Teen Titans was intended to run for only four seasons, but the immense popularity of the series led the network to come up with a fifth season. While fans enjoyed this fifth season, the network ended the series on a vague note. The thirteenth episode of Season 5, titled Things Change, brought back one character from Season 2 who we thought was dead.
The character of Terra joined the Teen Titans after displaying her geo-kinetic abilities in Season 2. However, we saw her switch her loyalty and become an apprentice to Slade, the enemy of the Titans. She essentially betrayed her friends and Beast Boy, who took an interest in her. She later had a change of heart and helped the Titans beat Slade. In the process, she sacrifices herself.
In the episode, Things Change, Terra appears as a normal school girl, shocking Beast Boy. However, the episode left us all wondering what...

Stephen King is primarily a prose writer, but he loves comic books too. He's dipped his toes into the graphic medium, contributing to 1985 one-shot "Heroes for Hope: Starring the X-Men" (a "comic jam" featuring writing from Alan Moore and George R. R. Martin too), and co-writing the horror comic "American Vampire" with Scott Snyder.
Before those, King's eighth novel — "Firestarter" — was him telling a superhero story in the horror space. "Firestarter" follows the McGees, a father (Andy) and daughter (Charlie) on the run from a government agency called the Shop. Years prior, Andy and his wife Vicky volunteered for experiments with the drug Lot 6, which turned him into a psychic and made Charlie born a "firestarter," able to spark flames with a thought.
King's seventh novel, "The Dead Zone," was about a man gaining clairvoyance and ultimately trying to assassinate a political candidate he foresees causing a nuclear war. "Firestarter" feels like a spiritual sequel,...

The Batman's Joker is a unique take, focusing on nightmarish qualities, corruption, and physical capabilities in battles with Batman. The Batman series emphasizes Batman's growth, humanity, and relationships with allies, making it stand out despite being underrated. Future adaptations of The Joker can learn from The Batman's portrayal, balancing chaos and core qualities without losing the character's essence.
2004s The Batman includes one of the most unique versions of The Joker in its DC universe. The Joker is not only Batmans greatest nemesis but he is also considered one of DCs all-time greatest supervillains. As Batmans diametric opposite and obsessive nemesis, nearly every adaptation of Batman includes an iteration of The Joker, making his depictions as varied as Batman himself. While some iterations of The Joker are received better than others, one animated version of the Clown Prince of Crime strikes the right balance of originality and faithfulness to The Jokers most important traits.

The Teen Titans have always been a cherished part of the DC Universe. Acting as a more grounded take on the superheroes from the franchise, they have proven time and time again that they are more than just sidekicks and are just as capable as the Justice League. There have been many versions of the characters, ranging from movies to shows, and even comics. However, none have been as iconic as the 2003 series.

This article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97
Every great X-Men story has some sort of relationship drama at its center. The pathos of characters having to deal with interpersonal conflicts while their existence is at stake is the kind of drama that defines a good X-Men story. It seems that X-Men ’97 understands this well, having introduced one of its most contentious love triangles back into the story, right as Genosha was blown up in a terrorist plot against the mutant population.
Jean Grey and Logan Howlett in X-Men ’97
X-Men ’97 created a lot of drama in Scott Summers’ life, exposing the mother of his child as a clone, while the actual Jean Grey might have been missing in action since the original Animated Series. However, with Jean returned, things took a a turn for the worse when Jean, in a moment of weakness, ended up kissing Wolverine, who was there to comfort her.

The legendary Bruce Timm is known for being the creator behind many of DC’s animated offerings. The ‘Timmverse’ saw a new dimension to characters such as Batman, Superman, and the Justice League, with Batman: The Animated Series being one of the most celebrated shows of all time. Timm was quite literally the Godfather of DC animation.
Despite his prowess and Midas touch, the animator was reportedly not too keen on developing one show that went on to become a cult classic. Batman Beyond, which was an original show that was not based on any comic, was reportedly the product of studio interference, which wanted a young, teenage Batman instead of an aging Bruce Wayne.

On the heels of Batman: The Animated Series, a new Dark Knight saga was born out of the pure desperation of a Warner Bros. studio executive. Now, Batman Beyond has become a classic in its own right, forfeiting not only the iconic origin story but also evolving beyond the limitations of what was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane in the technologically inept era of 1939.

There was a time when the animated features and shows were in the hands of Dcau producer and supervisor Bruce Timm, who made some of the most memorable pieces of entertainment in the animation space with characters from DC Comics.
But in his pursuit for greatness, he wasn’t alone, as one of the franchise’s projects, none other than the iconic Teen Titans, was handled by Glen Murakami.

While Timm has been revered in the industry with his breathtaking narrative and animation style, made popular with Batman: The Animated Series, Murakami made a name for himself with Teen Titans, making it one of the best superhero animated shows in history.
But the animations that Murakami managed to achieve by combining comic book art and anime art style in his production was something that even Timm couldn’t do.

Animator and showrunner Glen Murakami’s legendary show Teen Titans has been one of the most beloved animated DC shows. While many are fans of DC’s other classic animated offerings such as Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League, Murakami’s show had a different edge and tone that made it perfect for both children and adults.
Teen Titans brought the underrated comic to the forefront as characters such as Robin and Cyborg became much more than their usual sidekick personas. The show also gave more of an edge to Robin, bringing him out of Batman’s shadow. One decision that Glen Murakami took to make sure the series was better than other DC shows was to make it both kid and adult-friendly.

"Suicide Squad Isekai," premiering this July, bridges the worlds of DC Comics and anime. "Isekai" is a popular anime genre; meaning "another world" in Japanese, Isekai anime follows an everyman lead being transported to a magical realm, "Alice in Wonderland" style. This time, the "everyman" leads are Harley Quinn (played by Anna Nagase instead of Margot Robbie), Deadshot, Peacemaker, King Shark, and Clayface.

Created by Glen Murakami, the show aired from 2003 to 2009, spanning five seasons and multiple spinoffs and movies. One of the major changes that Murakami made with the show was to not give any secret identities to the superheroes as he wanted children to identify with their characteristics rather than their identities.

Once filled with extraneous series set in their own respective worlds, DC's future television projects are all expected to fall under the umbrella of James Gunn's new Dcu.
While DC has produced countless terrific television series over the years, not every made-for-tv project has been equally successful. Several television shows based on DC properties were rightfully canceled – whether it was due to bad acting, failure to capture the comics' imagination or a litany of other reasons.

A villain from the 2003 animated Teen Titans show is officially coming to the DC Universe. As Cyborg's new series continues, he's getting another familiar antagonist added to his rogues' gallery.
DC Comics' September solicitations have been revealed, and though Knight Terrors came in with a terrifying roar, the Dcu is still standing. Things get back on track after the two-month event and the publisher's titles resume, along with a crop of new series such as Power Girl and Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville. The Cyborg miniseries resumes where it left off, and fans of the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon may be surprised at the next villain to fight Vic Stone.
A.I. Silas Stone reveals all! The truth behind Solace CEO Markus Wilcox and his connection to Silas is uncovered. Cyborg needs to do some corporate espionage to get to the bottom of this shady activity—and if that wasn’t...

Fans of the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon are about to see some familiar faces join Cyborg's rogues' gallery. A look at Victor Stone's upcoming series revealed that two of the hero's animated foes are making the leap to comics to vex Cyborg once more.
At WonderCon, DC Comics held a panel that provided an in-depth look at several stories the publisher has coming out later this year as part of its Dawn of DC initiative. In addition to previews of the upcoming Wonder Woman run from Tom King and Daniel Sampere, as well as Batman: The Brave and the Bold, fans got a peek at what they could expect from the new Cyborg series from Morgan Hampton and Tom Raney.
In addition to preview pages, fans got to see character designs for the cast of the upcoming comic. But the real surprise came when it was revealed that two villains...

"Batman Beyond" is the most out-there project of the DC Animated Universe. It's not based on an existing comic and is instead an original take on Batman's future. Set in 2039, a long-retired, eighty-year-old Bruce Wayne trains the teenage Terry McGinnis to be the new Dark Knight.
An older Batman who'd hung up the cape and cowl wasn't a new idea; that was the whole idea behind Frank Miller's classic "The Dark Knight Returns." However, while Miller depicted Gotham as an urban gangland out of "The Warriors," "Beyond" went with a "tech-noir" setting à la "Blade Runner." This was new territory for Batman and a contrast with the art deco designs of "Batman: The Animated Series."
What to know something funny? This imaginative setting revamp was all incidental: what the WB network really wanted was a teenage Batman show, and setting the series in the future was how the creative team decided to achieve that.

After the beautiful restoration of Batman: The Animated Series to Blu-ray, now in time for holiday gift-giving is the Blu-ray edition of Superman: The Complete Animated Series. When the DVD edition arrived in 2009, I wrote in part:
“All the love and attention lavished on the Dark Knight was poured into this show, which was brighter and shinier, the villains larger in scope and giving the animators a chance to bust loose. Superman works great in animation and after the lackluster efforts from Filmation, Hanna-Barbera, and Ruby-Spears, this one clearly shows the potential fulfilled.
“As usual, the voice casting is fairly top-notch with Tim Daly alternating nicely between Superman and Clark Kent, sparring playfully with Dana Delany’s Lois Lane. Clancy Brown is wonderfully malevolent as Luthor and his ever-present menace is well handled, matching the reboot version launched a decade earlier.”

How do you kill a superhero? That was the question we wanted to pose to writer Tim Sheridan who, in his first issue of Future State: Teen Titans, kills a metric ton of famed caped crusaders. Part of Infinite Frontier, the massive publishing initiative that’s rewriting the (possible) future of the DC Universe, the series begins with a massacre. But it also sets up a mystery: what happened at Titans Tower? And why are some of our favorite heroes dead?
“The only thing that interests me is giant, big, sweeping, earth-shattering consequences. And the best way to understand and feel those consequences is with deaths that are either meaningful or meaningless,” Sheridan explains. “I think that is one of the hardest things we have to come to terms with as human beings is when something like what happens to Donna Troy and Miguel Montez happens at the Academy, it feels so meaningless.

Animated series Teen Titans Go! Has been on fans' screens for almost 8 years and is fast approaching its 300th episode. Given the crazy storylines that the creators developed when the show celebrated its 200th episode back in the fourth season of the show, fans can probably expect some equally bizarre occurrences when the big 3-0-0 rolls around.

The team at Warner Animation were enjoying unrivaled success with their 1990s offerings from Animaniacs to Batman: The Animated Series. As a result, as they retired Bats after 65 award-winning episodes, they decided to roll the dice on something bolder. For a change, they were looking to the future and not the comics for inspiration. What if, they wondered, Bruce Wayne aged out of being Batman but the need for the Caped Crusader remained? Who would inherit the mantle of the bat?
As it turns out, they settled on a teen, Terry McGinnis (Will Friedle), to cross paths with Wayne (Kevin Conroy). Where once he relied on Alfred or Oracle for guidance, now he would direct the actions of his unlikely successor in the series Batman Beyond.
Given the futuristic designs and strong storytelling, the audiences proved loyal to the new franchise and the show lasted 52 episodes, spawning fresh merchandising opportunities...

Will Friedle and Sdcc audiences alike learn that Boy Meets World played a big role in him joining Batman Beyond.
For any Batman fan of a certain age, Terry McGinnis is as true a Dark Knight as the best of them—and the best has always been Bruce Wayne. This is in no small part thanks to Will Friedle’s dryly counterintuitive performance as a teenage superhero. In different hands, it could be as irreverent as Peter Parker, but Friedle acutely underplays the youthfulness, which brings out something darker and harder even even when he’s being “schway.” Yet the casting of Friedle in the star role of Batman Beyond had everything to do the actor’s other beloved millennial touchstone role… as the idiot savant Eric Matthews on Boy Meets World.

When you consider how the producers behind Batman: The Animated Series were once instructed by execs at WB to develop a show about a “teenage Batman,” you can only imagine how things could’ve turned out horribly in less capable hands. But since we had the likes of Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett and Glen Murakami at the helm, we got the gem that was Batman Beyond.
Long story short, this bold series took place fifty years after the events of the aforementioned Batman: Tas, and saw the young Terry McGinnis inherit the mantle of the Dark Knight – with an aged Bruce Wayne as his mentor, no less. Featuring the voice talents of Will Friedle and Kevin Conroy, a mostly all-new rogues gallery and a kick-ass heavy metal/electronica soundtrack, it’s no wonder this bad boy has lived on in the hearts of fans the world over.

I remember the days where fans could walk in and buy their tickets on the day they arrived. Times have certainly changed as geek culture has grown and exploded in popularity. When I was growing up, I would have never thought that the stuff I was into would actually be popular one day, but that has happened.
Anyway, I’m excited for Comic-Con this year! Some studios like Warner Bros., Legendary, and Sony have bowed out, but that doesn’t mean there’s not going to be a ton of stuff to do and see! The full schedule for Comic-Con has been released, so now is the time to start planning your Comic-Con adventure!

Despite a fair amount of beloved DC cartoons being released on Blu-ray, there remain some glaring omissions. Fortunately, Warner Bros. began crossing a few of their most iconic shows off the list last year when Batman: The Animated Series finally got the HD treatment. That said, one would think the likes of Superman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond won’t be far behind.

The second wave of Batmania was ignited in 1989 when Tim Burton finally got a big screen adaptation of the comic book hero into theaters. It was such a wild success in terms of merchandising that Warner Bros wanted more and quickly. Since features take two to three years, they needed something sooner and the success of their Tiny Tunes and Animaniacs encouraged them to bring the Dark Knight back to television.
Thankfully, the project was placed in the hands of Alan Burnett, Bruce Timm, and Paul Dini who were not only fans of the character but the earliest cartoon fare. Taking a visual cue from Burton and a stylistic one from the Fleischer Brothers Studio, they produced a Batman cartoon unlike anything from the 1960s or 1970s. Batman the Animated Series was sampled on prime time in September 1992 before launching on Fox Kids and for three seasons, there was nothing quite like it.

Picture this: a popular 1980s comic by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez called The New Teen Titans puts a bunch of sidekicks together to fight one of their rank’s evil father. After a sixteen-year run come new titles to continue the legacy in print with differing line-ups before Cartoon Network developed the property into a television series from Glen Murakami entitled Teen Titans. This thing becomes a huge winner for Cn with rabid fans and critical acclaim before moving past a planned four-season arc into a fifth with the feature Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo serving as a finale. Did WB cancel it? Did Cartoon Network? Was it a matter of Bandai owning toy rights for the show despite Mattel signing exclusivity with the station? Who knows?

Back in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, we got a brief first look at Ray Fisher as Cyborg and now we are a few months away from his role in Justice League. Victor Stone aka Cyborg was originally a member of the Teen Titans, created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. Then in 2011 he was established as a founding member of the Justice League during DC's New 52 reboot as well as in last year's Rebirth launch. Most Cyborg fans remember him from the Teen Titans animated series that was created by Glen Murakami that ran on Cartoon Network from 2003 to 2006 and was voiced by Khary Payton (who still voices him on Teen Titans Go!). So could there be any similarities between the film and animated version of the character?

Star Wars Tales is a quarterly anthology series published by Dark Horse from 1999 to 2005. Each issue was 64 pages long and contained a variety of stories, in both number, length, content, and tone. Most stories were considered non-canonical “Infinities” stories unless canonized elsewhere (though of course, now all such stories are deemed non-canonical “legends”). In the course of its six year run, Star Wars Tales featured stories from dozens of different creators, covering numerous facets of the Star Wars universe, from serious, thoughtful tales to comedic ones to straight-up fan-demanded “what if?” type stories. Here are ten of the best, entertaining in their own right but also representative of the breadth of content available in this series (all of which are currently available to subscribers of Marvel Unlimited, and were earlier collected into six trade collections that can probably still be found on Amazon and the like).

Beginning this week, Shock Till You Drop is hosting a series of horror short films that fall under the "Fun Size Horror" banner which was created by filmmaker Zeke Penheiro. All of the Fun Size Horror shorts have been independently produced by a wide range of filmmakers including Josh Waller, Glen Murakami, Mali Elfman, with participating actors Lance Reddick, Rose McIver, Tracie Thoms, Brea Grant, Amy Dallen, Victor Webster and Diva Zappa.
Today, we bring you "Happy Birthday" from writer-director Erin Stegeman (Roadside) and producer Ace Marrero (Madison County). In the short: "Sophia is turning six and her cardigan-clad parents have put together the perfect party, including a very special surprise." You can watch this bloody tale below.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow for an all new episode which contains the debut of the season's main villain, Anarky.
