If You Like Interstellar, Check Out This 5-Year-Old Space Movie That Feels Like A Spiritual Successor To Nolan's Film
Image
Christopher Nolans Interstellar is one of the best sci-fi movies of the 2010s, and though others tried to repeat its success, theres only one other space movie that truly feels like a spiritual successor to it. Christopher Nolan has done a bit of everything in his career as a filmmaker, with his works being best-known for the recurrent themes he addresses in them. Nolans movies often touch on the topics of time, personal identity, and memory, and in 2014, he took these and others a step further in Interstellar.

Set in 2067, with humanity facing extinction due to a global blight, former NASA test pilot Joseph Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) is recruited by NASA physicist John Brand (Michael Caine) to go through a wormhole and cross the galaxy to find out which of three planets could be a new home for humanity. Interstellar was a massive critical and commercial success, and its widely...

Dark Interstellar Theory Reframes The Entire Reason Humans Leave Earth
Image
Interstellar's dark fan theory suggests that humans from the future actually caused Earth's blight, pushing humanity to leave the planet behind, thus ensuring their own existence. The film's narrative explains that advanced humans can change the past through their understanding of time and space, allowing them to manipulate events and potentially cause the blight. The relationship between Cooper, the protagonist, and the future humans is crucial to the story, as he is chosen to guide humanity toward evolution and ultimately save as many lives as possible.

Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi masterpiece Interstellar imagines a dystopian future where humans are forced to leave planet Earth behind once it becomes completely inhospitable, but one dark fan theory actually suggests that there’s an even more disturbing reason for this crisis. The story uses its mass exodus of humanity to comment sharply on the future of the climate crisis, the way we’re interacting with the environment,...

Interstellar Ending & Space Travel Explained
Image
The Interstellar ending is one still debated by fans years later. Interstellar follows humanity's last-ditch effort to find a new habitable planet - after Earth is ravaged by environmental catastrophe. When former NASA pilot-turned-corn farmer Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) finds the coordinates to a top secret government project, he's brought in and learns that they've been working to send a crew through a recently discovered wormhole in the hopes that humankind can find refuge in a new galaxy. However, in order to help save the remaining people on Earth, Cooper must leave his own family behind - and journey into unknown regions of space.

Like many Christopher Nolan films, Interstellar presents a number of complicated story ideas that may be confusing for certain moviegoers - especially after a first viewing. There are big sci-fi concepts at play here from the environments of the different planets to the way Nolan plays with...
