From Dcu Reboot to Robert Pattinson’s Return — James Gunn Clears the Air on Batman’s Future(Photo Credit –Facebook)
In the main Dcu storyline, the character will lead The Brave and the Bold, inspired by Grant Morrison’s comics and introducing Damian Wayne as Robin. James Gunn has made it clear no casting has started, as DC Studios is focused on Supergirl for now. He also dismissed talk of Hush appearing in The Batman: Part II, calling the claim unfounded.
The Brave and the Bold: Story and Direction
The Brave and the Bold was revealed in 2023 as part of DC’s first chapter under Gunn and Peter Safran. Gunn has said Damian Wayne is a personal favorite, which influenced the choice of story. The trailers and promos we've seen for It: Welcome to Derry so far have mostly kept Bill Skarsgård's returning Pennywise under wraps, but the demonic child-killing clown has now been unveiled via two Movie Maniacs McFarlane Toys action figures, and it seems HBO Max has taken an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to the character design.
As you'll see from the photos below, the standard figure looks pretty much exactly like Pennywise from the It movies, although the "flashback" variant does have a brighter clown suit, and what appears to be an ill-fitting headpiece.
This could either signify that this younger Pennywise still hasn't quite grown into his costume, or that the figure comes with interchangeable parts.
We know that Pennywise is a shape-shifter, so there's a good chance he will take other forms in the series.
Both figures measure 6″ tall, and come with scenic printed backdrops and environmental base displays,...

The forward motion is rolling in the new DC Universe now that James Gunn’s introductory film, Superman, has hit screens. The new film teased the planted seeds of what the near future holds. The Justice Gang is well established and Nathan Fillion will be returning as Guy Gardner in the upcoming Lanterns TV series. Additionally, news had leaked that Warner Bros. trademarked the name Mr. Terrific for a number of categories, which include possible solo movies. And the promotion has already begun for Supergirl.
Then, there’s the highly anticipated follow-up to Matt Reeves’ side-universe film, The Batman. Fans have been clamoring for a follow-up ever since Reeves had Robert Pattinson don the cape and cowl. While the spin-off of the Penguin character whet fans’ appetites for a bit, Deadline now reports that Warners Bros. is planning start shooting The Batman Part II next spring. The marketing for HBO Max series “Welcome to Derry” has been careful not to fully reveal Pennywise up to this point, but we do know that Bill Skarsgård is definitely back as the iconic killer clown in the upcoming streaming series. Oddly enough, our first real look at the show’s Pennywise comes our way today courtesy of two action figure reveals from McFarlane Toys.
Two different Movie Maniacs figures of Pennywise are available now from McFarlane Toys, one of which is interestingly labeled “Flashback Pennywise.” The “Flashback” variant features more of a yellow clown suit while the traditional figure features more of a grey suit, and the former is holding a bouquet of flowers while the latter is holding Pennywise’s trusty red balloon.

To call Stephen King prolific is an understatement. Over the course of six decades, the man has become more than just an author; he is now an internationally recognizable brand unto himself. He has written 65 novels in total, in addition to hundreds more short stories since first debuting in 1974 with his first book, Carrie.
Considering the sheer volume of work that King has created, what is even more surprising is just how lengthy many of his books are. One of the longest books King has ever written was It, released in 1986. The book housed a massive tale of horror, with a tale spread across multiple generations and dozens of characters.
The book was so long that each on-screen adaptation of it has had to embrace long-form storytelling of one form or another. For the ‘90s adaptation, director Tommy Lee Wallace crafted the iconic television mini-series starring Tim Curry. For the more recent effort,...

Following the release of James Gunn's Superman, fans have been eager for updates on DC's upcoming Batman reboot and the sequel to Matt Reeves' The Batman. In the main Dcu timeline, the Caped Crusader will appear in The Brave and the Bold, which is based on Grant Morrison's comic book run. With anticipation building, Gunn has shut down several rumors that could mislead or disappoint fans.
Over on Threads, Gunn replied to a few fans when it came to their Batman questions. One user asked if casting had already begun for The Brave and the Bold, to which Gunn simply replied with "Nope." This makes sense considering DC Studios is working on Supergirl. Later, a fan asked if the Batman villain, Hush, would appear in The Batman: Part II. The Brave and The Bold casting process gets a new update from James Gunn following new DC Universe rumors. One of the most highly anticipated projects from the Dcu's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" is DC Studios' Batman reboot, which will bring the Dark Knight into Gunn's massive superhero franchise.
Set to focus on Bruce Wayne discovering the existence of his biological son, Damian Wayne, The Brave and The Bold has been in development since DC Studios' original announcement in January 2023. The biggest question surrounding The Brave and The Bold is the Batman casting process, as fans are actively waiting to see who will suit up as the Caped Crusader.
With casting rumors constantly flying around online, a fan recently checked with Gunn on Threads if it was true that they are already casting the Dcu's Batman in the franchise. However, Gunn gave a very clear response to what is...

After almost 20 years in the industry, Alan Ritchson finally landed a role that propelled him into the public consciousness in a way that had eluded him over the previous two decades. The actor started out by playing Arthur Curry/Aquaman on "Smallville" back in 2006 and has been working solidly ever since. But playing formidable ex-military policeman Jack Reacher in Prime Video's hugely successful "Reacher" has really transformed the now-42-year-old's career, with Ritchson appearing in multiple high-profile movie projects ever since, including "Fast X" and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare."
Along with all of his success, Ritchson has found himself being fancast as the next Batman — and when I say "found himself," I mean "actively encouraged the idea." The man has made no secret of his love for the Dark Knight, having publicly announced his eagerness to play the iconic role at several points over the past year or so.

The second official teaser trailer for the upcoming HBO series "It: Welcome to Derry," a prequel to the events of the 2017 and 2019 "It" films, looks as creepy as we could've hoped for. It not only features the return of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, but also marks the return of Andy Muschietti, director of those recent "It" films. The show seems to be going for all the same vibes as the more popular first movie, with the added benefit of a TV show that has more time to delve into the characters. 2017's "It" felt like a speedrun through the book; "It: Welcome to Derry" may have a more natural pace.
For a lot of Stephen King fans, the most intriguing moment from that teaser is a brief shot of a couple of convicts in a bus labeled "Shawshank State Prison." That's the same prison featured in the 1994 film "The Shawshank Redemption,...

Ben Affleck revealed his favorite scene from the Dceu as Batman, and it is not in any of Zack Snyder’s movies. Affleck began his tenure as the Caped Crusader in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and had a terrible time due to studio interference and mismanagement. His final appearance as Batman was in The Flash.
Affleck revealed that some of his favorite moments as Batman were in the Andy Muschietti-directed movie. He said that with a scene in The Flash, he finally figured out what the character was all about, something which he could not grasp in Zack Snyder’s movies (via Herald Sun).
Maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done were in the Flash movie. I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting – different, but...

James Gunn recently shut down rumors once again about Robert Pattinson’s Batman joining the main DC Universe. As the director of Superman and co-ceo of DC Studios, Gunn made it pretty clear: “I’ve said it before. We’ve talked about it before, but it’s not what’s happening right now. Listen, everything is in flux so we will figure out what we’re doing next, yeah.”
Matt Reeves gave us a very different Batman, one focused more on the detective side and Gotham’s gritty atmosphere. Robert Pattinson brought a quiet intensity to the role, making his Batman stand out from past versions.
Not long after Reeves shared a behind-the-scenes picture from the The Batman 2 set, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the script for the sequel is finished.
But they also dropped a curious comment about another Batman project: “But you can ask Gunn who’s writing...

James Gunn has once again shut down the rumors that Robert Pattinson’s Batman is joining the Dcu. People have been speculating about this for a while, especially after some confusion online, but Gunn made it clear it’s not happening.

The rumors started heating up again after The Hollywood Reporter posted an update. They said the script for The Batman 2 is finished, which was exciting news. But they also added something that got fans curious.

Considering the fact that It — or Pennywise the Dancing Clown, as they prefer — is an ancient extraterrestrial entity who made first contact with Earth in approximately 1 Million Bce, it's somewhat surprising that it's taken 39 years for Stephen King's horror opus and its titular terrifier to get a spin-off. But now, with HBO Max's upcoming It: Welcome To Derry, we are about to get exactly that: a prequel series to Andy Muschietti's It duology set in 1962, 27 years before Pennywise and The Loser Club first made each other's acquaintance. And if the new trailer for the show is anything to go by, it looks like sleep's back off the menu — check it out below;

The brand new teaser trailer for It: Welcome to Derry gives us another glimpse at HBO’s impending return to the world of Andy Muschietti’s franchise. Not only is the series connected to the hit movies (2017 and 2019), but it also features the return of Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård. Here are the nine things you may have missed in the relentless new preview.
Derry in the '60s
While Muschietti’s It films took place across two primary time periods, the 1980s and the 2010s, those are not the only timeframes that Stephen King’s iconic book covered. Rather, the book was set across the 1950s and the 1980s, as the central hook of the narrative revolves around Pennywise's awakening every 27 years. As such, the series offers a chance for the creatives to return to a more classical setting, this time in the form of 1962.

In addition to debuting the “It: Welcome to Derry” teaser trailer, creators Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti shared the first 10 minutes of the premiere at San Diego Comic Con.
That footage will not be made available online — you’ll have to wait until the series premieres in October on HBO Max — so here’s a rundown of what was shown.
A film projector whirs to life. Derry’s Capitol Theater is screening The Music Man, establishing the series’ 1962 setting. The camera travels through the theater before landing on a young boy sucking on a pacifier he’s too old for. Referred to as the Clemons boy, he’s a new character created for the series.
The usher spots Clemons, who makes a run for it. A bit of dialogue reveals that the boy frequently sneaks in, and his rough family life is alluded to. The usher chases him through the lobby,...

AsStephen Kingfans gear up for the release of It: Welcome to Derry, the HBO prequel to It that'll arrive in October, many wonder whether the TV version will be able to capture the horror of the 2017 adaptation and its 2019 sequel. Though it's a change of medium, we're talking about HBO, a network that isn't exactly known for diluting stuff that might be deemed controversial. Show creator Barbara Muschietti understands this concern, and she's offered fans the reassurance they've been hoping for, vowing that It: Welcome to Derry will be as scary as the movies.

While new faces fill the trailer of Welcome to Derry with a sense of sewer-grate dread and cosmic wrongness, the HBO series teases the return of Bill Skarsgård‘s Pennywise the Dancing Clown in all his eerie smiling glory.
Despite being helmed by a new cast against a backdrop of events set squarely in 1962, the series trailer promises nothing less than the blood, gore, and terror that made the first two movies a billion-dollar, fan-favorite, global success.
Set to premiere in Fall 2025, It: Welcome to Derry is a prequel set within the familiar world of director Andy Muschietti‘s It and the town of Derry, Maine. The lore of the series will be deeply rooted in Stephen King‘s original novels, and take the audience on a journey to where, when, and how it all began.

Following the success of the two It films directed by Andy Muschietti, it was clear to everyone that Warner Bros. Pictures would want to continue to tell stories set in the world created by Stephen King. Now, the next installment is almost here, and it's in the form of an HBO television series. Titled It – Welcome to Derry, the series is set to be a prequel exploring the origins of the evil entity and its relationship to the dark history of the town of Derry. The upcoming show had a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, where Andy and Barbra Muschietti teased that Welcome to Derry would answer some burning questions— and even create some new ones.
Andy Muschietti discussed how the creative team behind the series consulted Stephen King when it came to exploring the origins of Pennywise the clown, and the various forms the entity took while in Derry.

HBO has released the second official trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, offering a chilling preview of the upcoming nine-episode series based on Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel. Arriving on HBO Max this October, the prequel pulls audiences back into the cursed town of Derry, Maine, to explore the evil that lurked there long before the Losers’ Club faced off against Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
The teaser begins in 1962, as a new family settles into town, unaware of the dark force that quietly festers beneath the surface. Early glimpses hint at a population infected by paranoia and cruelty, as an unexplained evil appears to feed on Derry’s collective fears. While Bill Skarsgård’s return as Pennywise is only teased, his looming presence is unmistakable, with references to mysterious disappearances and unspoken horrors suggesting the beginning of a fresh cycle of terror.

HBO is getting ready to dive deeper into the world of Stephen King with its upcoming horror series It: Welcome to Derry. A new trailer for It: Welcome to Derry has been released following a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday evening, and it teases a sinister, demonic force in the small town, which may be there in addition to Pennywise.
Once again, we see very little of Bill Skarsgård's killer clown, an indication perhaps that his screentime will be fairly limited. That or HBO Max is simply looking to keep the iconic monster and his role in this story under wraps (ensuring there are plenty of surprises for horror fans).

Once again, we see very little of Bill Skarsgård's killer clown, an indication perhaps that his screentime will be fairly limited. That or HBO Max is simply looking to keep the iconic monster and his role in this story under wraps (ensuring there are plenty of surprises for horror fans).

Things can get spooky at Comic-Con after dark. And thanks the combination of Stephen King and the filmmaking team of Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the It: Welcome to Derry panel delivered the scares Saturday night in San Diego.
The sibling duo shared a new teaser trailer (below), played the opening scene of their upcoming HBO series, which fleshes out stories from King’s sprawling 1986 novel, and explained the impetus behind the initial eight-episode season.
"One of the most fascinating things about the book is the cryptic factor, which is, you hear the story, you know certain things, but you never get to the end of anything. At the end of the book, nobody knows what the hell It is, what does it want? Who is Bob Gray? How did it all happen? We are going to ruin all this," Andy quipped, "by unveiling some of these mysteries, but with very good taste.

New characters and an old villain are everywhere in the second official trailer for It: Welcome to Derry. For horror fans, the title is probably the most anticipated one to be on the way from HBO Max’s upcoming slate of content, as not only will Bill Skarsgård reprise his haunting role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Andrés Muschietti’s series of films, but Muschietti himself is also on-board with the project serving as a producer and also the helmer of several episodes. But, if you were expecting more tales from The Losers’ Club that took center stage in the filmmaker’s back-to-back features, you won’t find them here. Instead, Welcome to Derry pulls back the curtain and reveals the years of horror leading up to the introduction of characters like Bill and Richie.

HBO's It: Welcome to Derry'sfirst look teaser debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, offering a glimpse at its chilling tone. Welcome to Derry season 1 is among the most anticipated horror TV shows of the year, with filmmaker Andy Muschietti following up on his duology of films with an expanded TV series.
Screen Rant was in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 when HBO revealed a private screening of its Welcome to Derry teaser trailer. The trailer included several horrific action shots of Derry, surrounding a child looking to hitchhike who is welcomed into the car of a family passing by.
The child requests that he be taken "anywhere but Derry," and though the family is welcoming at first, they eventually turn on him. They drive back to Derry, and the boy tries to get out of the car. The pregnant mother has something moving under her skin, and the son suddenly has Pennywise-like eyes.

HBO's It prequel, Welcome to Derry, will feature Derry residents from the It book, including one fan-favorite character from another bestselling Stephen King novel. Although most Stephen King books are hits, few are as pervasive as the 1986 book It. The movie adaptations of It and It: Chapter Two took the world by storm, allowing fans to fall in love with the Losers Club and Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise. Luckily, fans will get a prequel to the story with It: Welcome to Derry, which explores the origins of Pennywise and his previous terror of Derry, Maine.
HBO has remained tight-lipped about the characters in the new show, but we finally know at least one fan-favorite Stephen character will appear. At San Diego Comic-Con's It: Welcome to Derry panel, where Screen Rant was present, the Muschiettis confirmed that Dick Hallorann from The Shining would be a character in the first season, played by Chris Chalk.

The upcoming DC Universe movie Clayface may have found its female lead, and all it took was for DC Studios to journey to a galaxy far, far away.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Naomi Ackie is the top choice for the female lead role in Clayface. If cast, Ackie would become the second actor to board the Dcu project, after Tom Rhys Harries, who was tapped back in June to play the titular shapeshifting Batman villain. DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn gave an intriguing update on Batman's Dcu debut, indicating it may happen sooner than originally announced. The Dcu is aiming to introduce its Batman, who will one day share the screen with David Corenswet's Superman, in Brave and the Bold. The DC Studios blockbuster is expected to star Batman and his biological son, Damian Wayne, aka Robin, picking up several years into his superhero career with an existing Bat-Family. The Flash director Andy Muschietti is currently attached to direct, while no writer has been announced, despite James Gunn confirming a script is in the works.
As the Dceu was taking its last breaths, The Batman found success as a standalone detective story set in its own universe's Gotham. While opinions were split on whether The Batman should become the jumping-off point for the Dcu reboot, DC Studios has landed on keeping them separate.

No word yet on who will play Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, but Gal Gadot won't be returning to the role, since this is part of James Gunn and Peter Safran's full Dcu reboot, and they are moving on from the former DC Extended Universe era.

Ezra Miller, once again, has pirouetted their way into the headlines, this time, quite literally. A new viral video shows the 32-year-old The Flash star dressed in a long, dark, lace-detailed gown and combat boots, twirling and dancing without a care at the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival.

It’s a clip so hypnotic in its audacity that it has both stunned and charmed the internet in equal measure. This bold, bohemian moment was captured just after Miller walked the red carpet in Santa Margherita di Pula on June 21, marking a rare public appearance following years of near invisibility.
Since 2022, their name has become synonymous with legal drama, burglary charges, public meltdowns, restraining orders, and enough controversy to fuel a Netflix docuseries. Yet here they were, spinning under the Sardinian stars, carefree as if the weight of those...

Could the world soon have two live-action Batman actors leading separate film franchises at the same time? That might be the case as Matt Reeves is finally making headway on The Batman Part II, and the Dcu has The Brave and the Bold waiting in the wings.
On The Batman Part II front, things appear to be going well at the moment.
"I like it, yes," said Gunn on the notion that he's pleased with the script that Matt Reeves turned in for The Batman Part II.
He continued, "For sure, we're headed in the right direction, but there's still some things we have to work out, but it's headed in the right direction, for sure."
The conversation then shifted towards the Dcu Batman and when he might debut or when The Brave and the Bold could be released.

There is still hope for Swamp Thing's Dcu future as news of the film's cancellation has been greatly exaggerated, according to James Gunn. Ever since the news broke that a previously announced Dcu title had been canceled, fans have been speculating which film it might have been. A recent interview with Gunn the other day had many speculating that the canceled film in question might have been James Mangold's Swamp Thing, given Gunn's comments that the film had a writer and director attached.
However, James Gunn has debunked the claims that Swamp Thing has been canceled. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, via Dcu Updates, Gunn confirmed Swamp Thing is still in development and that he recently spoke with James Mangold about the film. What is holding Swamp Thing up? James Mangold's other projects include the development of a Star Wars film centered on...

MCU alum and popular Batman fan cast Lee Pace addresses the possibility of playing Batmanin the Dcu. With James Gunn's Superman successfully launching the Dcu, the franchise is getting ready to welcome its new Wonder Woman and Batman. It may take a while for the Dcu's Wonder Woman casting to be announced, but Batman's Dcu actor may be revealed sooner thanks to the upcoming release of Andy Muschietti's The Brave and the Bold, parallel to Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise.
In an interview with The Playlist, Foundation star Lee Pace answers whether he has been in talks to play Batman for the Dcu. Pace doesn't confirm or deny it. Instead, he notes "what a great privilege" it is for any actor to play the Dark Knight and praises all the actors who have worn the cape and cowl throughout the years.
