David Tennant’s Stunning Transformation Revealed in First Look at ITV Thriller
Image
ITV is gearing up to release a new drama called The Hack, and some exclusive images have just surfaced to hype it up even more. The show is about the phone hacking scandal that rocked Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World more than ten years ago, and it’s created by a talented team: writer Jack Thorne, director Lewis Arnold, and producer Patrick Spence. Deadline first shared news of the project earlier this year, and Australia’s Stan is also helping produce the series.

David Tennant takes the lead as investigative reporter Nick Davies, the journalist who exposed the phone hacking scandal.

In the new photos, Tennant can be seen in action alongside Robert Carlyle, who plays Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook from the Metropolitan Police. Cook’s character is important because he led the investigation into the still-unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, a story that’s also part of the drama.

‘The Hack’: David Tennant Phone-Hacking Drama Unveils First Look a Week After Prince Harry’s Historic Settlement
Image
ITV has officially announced its drama about the U.K.’s phone-hacking scandal and investigation, a seven-part series now entitled “The Hack” and written by multi award-winner Jack Thorne.

The unveiling of the first look from “The Hack” — which shot last year — comes just a week after the hacking controversy concerning Rupert Murdoch’s U.K. tabloids reached a new peak, with his News Group Newspapers making a historic apology to Prince Harry and agreeing to pay substantial damages.

David Tennant — who himself accepted damages from Ngn over a phone-hacking claim against the now-defunct News of the World — plays Nick Davies, the investigative journalist who uncovered evidence of hacking. Toby Jones plays his former editor-in-chief at The Guardian newspaper, Alan Rusbridger, while — in a story running parallel to the hacking expose — Robert Carlyle plays former Met Police detective chief superintendent Dave Cook, who led an investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan.

The Crow Girl Review: Why Streaming Needs More Stories Like This
Image
The Crow Girl combines Nordic noir’s somber mood with raw elements of British crime drama. Based on Erik Axl Sund’s Scandinavian bestseller, the six-part series moves from Stockholm to Bristol’s dim, wet streets. Dci Jeanette Kilburn, played with fierce determination by Eve Myles, investigates several gruesome murders of young men—each death carries ritual elements and exposes social patterns of abuse and exploitation.

Moving the story goes beyond location changes into British social commentary, examining immigration conflicts, institutional wrongdoing, and community breakdown. The show keeps Nordic noir’s moral uncertainty and deep unease while creating its own style, mixing haunting atmosphere with stark reality.

Starting with a carefully composed violent scene, The Crow Girl holds viewers with persistent darkness. Those who enjoy layered stories will appreciate how the show handles interweaving plots about wrongdoing, psychological damage, and survival.

The series changes expected crime story elements by focusing on male victims,...

Doctor Who's Russell T. Davies Wants To Bring 1 Bridgerton & Wicked Star Back In The Show's Future
Image
While his appearances in Bridgerton and Wicked have made him a household name, Russell T Davies hopes to bring Jonathan Bailey to Doctor Who in an all-new role. Before joining Netflix's period drama as Anthony Bridgerton, Bailey portrayed Psi in the Doctor Who season 8 episode Time Heist, alongside Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor and Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald. At the time of writing, Bailey had soared onto the big screen as Prince Fiyero in Wicked, the shallow student Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba encounters in her studies at Shiz University.

Recently, Davies revealed to Screen Rant that he hopes to bring Bailey back to the Whoniverse after recruiting Bridgerton co-star Nicola Coughlan to star in Doctor Who's 2024 Christmas special. Highlighting Adjoa Adoh's dual Whoniverse roles as a precedent for bringing back multiple actors, Davies shared that he hopes to encourage Bailey to return after briefly spending time with...

10 Spinoffs Ways Darker Than The Movies & TV Shows They Were Based On
Image
The 21st century has been an era of sequels, reboots, and spinoffs. While these projects have saturated the market for many years, some are worth checking out. One of the reasons that a spinoff could find unexpected success without imitating the original movie or TV show is by incorporating darker and more intense storylines. Since a spinoff doesn't have the pressure and expectations that the original film or series might face, it can experiment with style and tone to exciting results. A good spinoff will root itself within the story's universe while working to stand alone as an individual project.

When many of the best legacy movie sequels differentiate themselves by going down a darker path, this could mean that more mature and adult themes will play a large part in the project. This makes sense, as when a TV show takes on a more serious tone, more emotional strife...

Has Doctor Who Set Up a Possible Torchwood Return?
Ncuti Gatwa
One of the most beloved and long-running British Sci-Fi TV shows may be setting up the return of a fan-favorite character in a spin-off series on Disney+.

This has been the plan from the start, that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor Who production era will feature multiple spin-off series and movies.

The newest Doctor Who era has Ncuti Gatwa taking the reigns as the pivotal character in the show, aka Doctor Who, and bringing a new, fresh take.

This is what makes the Doctor Who universe last as long as it has, as every couple of years, the Doctor and other characters on the show will get a revamp with new actors. This also means that older stories and plots can be revisited with new ideas and even newer and sometimes old faces.

Making the Doctor Who universe a series that theoretically can run forever while rivaling cinematic...

Big-Budget Gaelic Drama To Begin Filming In Outer Hebrides
Image
Filming begins next week on a big-budget family drama, which producers hope will herald a new era in non-English language shows within the British Isles.

The Guardian reports that four-part thriller An t-Eilean (The Island) is the most expensive drama ever made in Scots Gaelic, coming in at £1million ($1.25m) an episode.

Backers include the BBC, which has enjoyed ratings triumphs with previous Welsh-language series Keeping Faith (Un Bore Mercher) and Hinterland (Y Gwyll). The show is co-production between Black Camel Pictures, Mg Alba, the Gaelic broadcasting agency, Screen Scotland and US-owned distributor All3Media.

The Guardian reports that, due to the work of All3Media, the show has already received offers from Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Belgium.

It quotes Black Camel’s...

Image
New Year's is the perfect time to binge-watch shows, but choose ones that can be completed within the time frame. Look for captivating shows that are not necessarily holiday-themed to add variety to your watch list. Consider shows like Torchwood, God Friended Me, and Lie to Me, which have fewer episodes and are suitable for a binge-watch before the new year.

New Year's, the coziest time of the year, is nigh, and it is the season for bingeing favorite comfort shows as well as discovering new amazing series. Seeing as it is exactly 45 days until New Year's Day, it is important to choose a show that could easily be completed within this time frame. This means that starting Buffy the Vampire Slayer, House, M.D., or How I Met Your Mother with the intent of finishing them by January 1 would not be the wisest decision. Thankfully, there are plenty of...

The show was a spinoff from Doctor Who focusing on the exploits of the alien hunters at the Torchwood Institute, especially Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles). Though the show was never officially cancelled and continues as an audio drama, it went off the air in 2011 after four seasons.

Per Digital Spy, during a recent Q&a, creator Russell T. Davies - who has returned as the showrunner for Doctor Who...
