HBO’s Harry Potter reboot is officially in production, and it’s planned to run for 10 years. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has confirmed the news during the company’s most recent earnings call (via Collider). While the series will follow the structure of J.K. Rowling‘s original seven books, it will span a full decade. That means some seasons may be extended, split, or expanded with new materials.
Cinematographer Adriano Goldman confirmed that Season 1 will include eight episodes. Best known for his work in The Crown and Andor, he will lead the first two and final two episodes.
The show is being led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Succession) and director Mark Mylod. The full production is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., where the original movies were shot. The production team spent 18 weeks in pre-production (via movieweb).

HBO'sHarry Potterreboot is currently filming, and fans will be excited to learn that the latest adaptation will feature at least one key difference from the film franchise. The upcoming series will seemingly have a vibrant color palette, a key visual component that was missing in the iconic movies.
During an interview with Forbes, cinematographer Adriano Goldman teased his work on HBO's television adaptation of Harry Potter. The director of photography revealed that, after spending 18 weeks in pre-production, the creative team settled on the visual style for the first season of the fantasy reboot. The grueling process will end up defining the series for the next decade, which Goldman teased will feature his affinity for colors. “I have a special relationship with color. This series needs to be more vibrant from the global point of view of the image,” Goldman revealed.

Guillermo del Toro Praises Free-to-Stream Horror Comedy For “Dark sense of humor and looming menace”
Tubi is quickly becoming one of my favorite streaming services. I hate advertisements, yet even I can tolerate their limited ad breaks. Not to mention, they have a wide variety of genre programming, including everything from the cult classics of years past to celebrated contemporary efforts.
Speaking of critically lauded fare released recently, the streamer’s impressive lineup presently features a contemporary feature that won over the majority of fans and critics. Not to mention, it also caught the eye of one Guillermo del Toro. Keep reading below for his profound, yet concise take on the picture.
I love that del Toro makes a food pun in his assessment. Nice work, sir. In all seriousness, this is one that warrants checking out if you haven’t seen it. If you have seen The Menu, it’s worth paying a repeat visit. The flick is plenty clever and there’s likely...

Work continues on HBO's Harry Potter TV series in London, England, and Dominic McLaughlin has just been spotted as the Boy Wizard alongside a giant-sized Hagrid.
However, despite what you might think at first glance, that isn't Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost. Similar to the Harry Potter movies, it seems this series is utilising a suitably large stand-in who will don a realistic prosthetic head with the Hagrid actor's likeness.
As with the late Robbie Coltrane's portrayal, Frost's performance will then be merged with that. The result will be a Hagrid played by a well-known star who, at the same time, does right by the version of the half-giant and gamekeeper and groundskeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by being suitably massive.
It looks like McLaughlin and "Frost" are shooting scenes in the Muggle world, where they take the tube before arriving at Diagon Alley.

Miriam Margolyes has joined a growing chorus of former Harry Potterstars and Hollywood actors that have spoken out against J.K. Rowling's anti-transgender rhetoric. The actress, who portrayed Professor Pomona Sprout in two of the blockbuster film adaptations, shared her stance on the controversial author on a recent episode of the A Gay Old Time podcast. She made it clear that she doesn't agree with Rowling's opinions (which she deems "too harsh"), but also encouraged a "gentler" approach from those on both sides of the debate.
"I don't agree with her about the trans issue – I think her opinion is too harsh," Margolyes said of Rowling. However, she also expressed her disapproval of the reaction from those that do not align with her beliefs. "It's not good to be so furious. We should be gentler with each other. We're all oppressed by sections of the community. Let's just be kinder,...

The first photos set photos from HBO's Harry Potter reboot found their way online yesterday, but there's one crucial detail that has fans feeling a lot better about the upcoming small screen adaptation.
The Harry Potter books are set between 1991 and 1998, though the movies led by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint appear to have taken place at the same time they were filmed: the first decade of the 2000s. Much has been said about HBO's plans for the property, with the biggest concern being that the Wizarding World would either be Americanised or brought into the present day.
After all, how better to make a new take on Harry Potter resonate with today's kids than by making the Dursleys one of those annoying TikTok families or for Harry's fellow students to be obsessed with Instagram and influencers? It sounds awful, we know.
Fortunately, these set photos have confirmed...

The Harry Potter franchise is getting rebooted as a TV series at HBO, and earlier this week it was officially announced that production has commenced on the series, with filming taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK. The press release noted that the series “will debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max where it’s available, including in upcoming launch markets Germany, Italy, and the UK.” Now, some set pics have leaked online to give us our first look at the Dursleys – and to reveal that the characters are wearing ’90s-style clothing, indicating that this series, like the novels, will be set in the 1990s.
The cast includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as his father Lucius Malfoy, Bel Powley...

Production is now underway on HBO's small-screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter. We recently got a first official look at Dominic McLaughlin as the titular Boy Wizard, and these latest set photos taken at London Zoo (via SFFGazette.com) give us another glimpse of the young actor alongside members of the thoroughly unpleasant Dursley family.
In the novels, Harry is begrudgingly taken in by Petunia and Vernon Dursley following the death of his parents. The lad is not treated very well (to say the least), but does ultimately put his differences with their son, Dudley, aside.
In related news, Variety reports that Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden is building a temporary school so that the show’s young cast can keep up with their studies during filming.
"Three Rivers District Council is permitting the studio to “use a series of portable buildings as a school facility for the next decade.

Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, where HBO is filming the new “Harry Potter” TV series, is creating a temporary school for the many child actors working on the show. This school will help the kids keep up with their education during filming, which is expected to last for eight to ten years, according to the BBC. HBO confirmed on July 15 that production on the series has officially started.
The BBC reports that the local Three Rivers District Council has given permission to set up portable classrooms at the studio. These classrooms can hold up to 600 students during busy filming periods, like when big crowd scenes are shot. Most of the time, the school will serve around 150 students.
The school will be open weekdays from early morning at 5:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., allowing the young actors to fit their lessons between late-night shoots and other filming schedules.

Production on HBO's Harry Potter TV series started earlier this week, and following our first look at both the Boy Wizard and Hagrid, we have a better idea of what to expect from this small screen adaptation of controversial author J.K. Rowling's iconic series of novels.
We've known for a while that HBO intends to adapt a book per season, but with the show's young leads set to grow up fast and so much more ground to cover than the movies, the cable network has a unique plan to counter them being aged out.
According to Redanian Intelligence (via SFFGazette.com), seasons 1 and 2 are expected to be six episodes each, with future seasons potentially expanding to 8 episodes to help cover those extra pages. The books ranged from 223 to 766 pages.

Harry Potter may have just started production on its first season, but HBO is reportedly already looking ahead. A new report has offered insight into the network's plans for the show's second season, which would adapt The Chamber of Secrets.
According to Redanian Intelligence, HBO plans on filming the first two seasons of Harry Potter back-to-back, with Season 2 slated to begin production in July 2026, two months after Season 1's expected wrap date. Season 2 would then film on a similar production timeframe, wrapping in May 2027. The report also revealed that the episode counts for the first two seasons will be shorter than expected. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod previously indicated back in December 2024 that the first season would comprise eight episodes, when they mentioned having "eight hours to tell the first book." While that may still be the case, those eight hours will be divided into just six episodes,...

Voldemort has reportedly been cast in HBO's series adaptation of Harry Potter. Unfortunately, fans are no closer to learning who will succeed Ralph Fiennes as the Dark Lord.
According to Redanian Intelligence, someone close to the production of Harry Potter has disclosed that Voldemort has already been cast for the series adaptation and will "appear in several episodes." However, HBO reportedly has no plans to announce who has been cast in the role, as the network wants to keep the casting a secret until the first season airs, which isn't until 2027. This means that Wizarding World fans might have to wait two years to learn who will be playing Voldemort, unless the casting gets leaked before then. At the very least, this secrecy stays true to the character's "He Who Must Not Be Named" moniker.
However, it remains to be seen if HBO will be successful in keeping the actor...

Daniel Radcliffeis best known as the titular hero of Harry Potter to many fans around the world. However, once the actor completed the eight-part movie saga, he turned his attention to more niche and meaningful roles across various genres. While some remember him for his villainous turn in The Lost City, and more recently starring in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, one of his underrated horror films will soon be streaming for free.

While The Bear has brought audiences’ attention to culinary arts, there have been movies that celebrate the essence of being a chef. From Ratatouille, Chef, Burnt, No Reservations, to Big Night, each movie tells us something new about the profession, creative process and restaurant management, and the people who give us good times. But Mark Mylod’s The Chef is a whole different story and now it has a free streaming home.

Emmy voters are still infected with The Last of Us, rewarding the zombified series with 16 nominations on Tuesday, including Best Drama Series. Notably, Season 2 of HBO's adaptation of the popular video-game series didn't get everything for which it submitted, and there are three notable snubs that are causing an uproar on social media: supporting actress Isabela Merced, and the standout episode "Through The Valley" in both directing and writing.
Here are the categories The Last of Us got into — and missed.

It was never a question whether the fungal apocalypse drama would receive a series bid, since Season 1 scored 24 nominations and won eight trophies in 2023.

Following our first look at Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Wizard, HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series has just shared a first look—via SFFGazette.com—at Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The late Robbie Coltrane played the character in the big screen franchise that ran from 2001 to 2011, and this interpretation doesn't seem all that different. Frost is roughly the same age as his predecessor was in that first movie—a little older, in fact—but looks a bit more youthful in the role.
So far, this adaptation of Harry Potter doesn't look all that different from the movies, aside from a change in actors. That might be off-putting for longtime fans, but is unlikely to bother the new, younger audience Warner Bros. Discovery hopes to introduce to this Wizarding World.

The Last of Us season two might have divided fans, but the new episodes were clearly a hit with Television Academy voters.
HBO’s post-apocalyptic drama earned 16 Emmy nominations on Tuesday morning. While that’s fewer than the first season’s 24 noms, it still represents a terrific haul.
Perhaps the most interesting nomination is that Pedro Pascal was nominated for best actor. While Pascal’s performance was widely praised, his character Joel had very limited screen time, appearing in only three of the season’s seven episodes. The nomination is similar to Brian Cox’s nomination for the final season of HBO’s Succession, where his character was killed off in the season’s third episode.
Star Bella Ramsey was nominated for best actress for their portrayal of Ellie for the second season in a row. Plus, the show was also nominated for best drama.

The Last of Us Season 2 may have proved to be one of the most divisive pieces of television this year, but it seems HBO's bold approach to the video game material won't go unrecognized during the awards season. The leading star of the post-apocalyptic drama has nabbed one of the most coveted nominations at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for portraying Ellie in Season 2. With the historic nomination, Ramsey becomes the first openly non-binary actor to be nominated more than once at the Emmys. It's a well-deserved accomplishment that speaks to how strong their performance was despite a controversial adaptation of the source material. Ramsey had already been a lead on the HBO series since 2023, but Season 2 saw Ellie thrust into the spotlight as the sole protagonist.

Next up, we have the man who delivers the earth-shattering news to Harry that he is – in fact – a wizard, and destined to go to magic school.
Yes, the new Rubeus Hagrid is none other than Nick Frost, picking up the baton from the late, great Robbie Coltrane, who played the role across all eight Potter movies. Now, we have our first look at Frost in his costume, and it’s largely similar to the version you know:

Nick Frost is the new Hagrid in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. Fans got their first look at him in the famous half-giant’s robes, which were first worn by the late Robbie Coltrane in the original movies.
The image was shared just one day after HBO showed the first official photo of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter himself. Cameras started rolling yesterday at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

Hagrid is one of the most loved characters from the books and movies. He’s the gamekeeper at Hogwarts, loves magical creatures, and has always been loyal to Dumbledore. He’s also one of the first people Harry meets in the first story. HBO’s version of the character looks close to what fans remember, though Nick Frost brings his own take to the role.
Nick Frost, known from Hot Fuzz, is one of the biggest names added to the new Harry Potter cast.

HBO just gave fans of the Wizarding World something to cheer about — and he’s about half-giant-sized. In a brand-new image released from the set of the upcoming Harry Potter series, audiences get their first glimpse of Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, the lovable, half-giant gamekeeper of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And if the oversized coat, massive beard, and wide-eyed warmth don’t scream Hagrid, we don’t know what does.
The first-look photo, seen above, shows Frost fully transformed into one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. Wearing Hagrid’s signature patchwork overcoat and striped waistcoat, Frost looks every inch the gentle giant — equal parts imposing and inviting, and a little bit confused. This new image follows yesterday’s debut look at Dominic McLaughlin in costume as Harry Potter himself. It’s not September yet, but it is – officially – time to return to Hogwarts.
