The "Star Trek" universe is vast and complicated. Most of the "Star Trek" shows to date take place on Federation vessels or stations staffed by career officers on specific assignments. The franchise largely revolves around managerial professionalism and workplace propriety. There is respect for the chain of command, and orders are given and followed as a matter of course. Starfleet is a military organization, but with its militant strictness devoted to exploration and diplomacy rather than combat and conquest. Ships are assigned to distant areas of space where they are tasked with examining a curious pulsar or, say, to a disease-ridden world in need of medicine. The bureaucracy works in "Star Trek," and individuals go where they are needed.
As such, when a minor character appears on "Star Trek," Trekkies assume that they merely arrived on the U.S.S.

In the second season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Trekkies were introduced to a memorable minor character named Ensign Sonya Gomez, played by actress Lycia Naff. Ensign Gomez first appeared in "Q Who", the first episode to feature the Borg. She conversed briefly with Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) about how excited she was to be serving on the U.S.S. Enterprise-d before accidentally spilling her drink on Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). Ensign Gomez appeared again in the following episode, "Samaritan Snare", the episode to first feature the Pakled. In a fun development, Lycia Naff would return to play Gomez in an episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" called "First First Contact" wherein she had risen to the rank of captain.
For a hot minute behind the scenes, Ensign Gomez was floated as a potential love interest for Geordi, and Naff was even told about a potential story...

Star Trek: Lower Decks celebrates the Tng era with beloved characters and fun interactions like Riker on the USS Titan. The show brings back legacy elements like Voyager, Cetacean Ops, and Holodeck episodes with nostalgic flair. Lower Decks enhances the Trek universe by reviving characters from DS9, showcasing new storyline updates with humor.
Every episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks is packed full of callbacks and references that have brought back many beloved elements of the Star Trek franchise. Inspired by the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Lower Decks", Mike McMahan's animated comedy is a love letter to the Tng era. Following the adventures of the USS Cerritos and focusing on the starship's lower decks characters like Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) and Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), it provided a fresh perspective on the wider Star Trek universe.

When "Star Trek" first aired in the late 1960s, it wasn't an overwhelmingly popular hit. When the show was canceled in 1969, it was put into eternal syndication, and it wouldn't be until the mid-1970s that Trekkies would begin to appear in earnest. "Star Trek" conventions started to pop up in hotel ballrooms across the nation, and "Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry would occasionally appear at said conventions to discuss his creation with his many fans.
It was during these conversations, really, that Roddenberry began to mentally highlight the messages he put into "Star Trek." Fans, he saw, were responding to Trek's depiction of a world without war and money, a world where diplomacy and exploration took precedence over conquest and acquisition. Many loved the show's diversity.
When it came time to create "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1986, it appeared Roddenberry was eager to shift Trek's themes into overdrive. "Next...

Ensign Sonya Gomez (Lycia Naff) is probably best known to Trekkies as the character who spilled a cup of hot chocolate on Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) in the second season "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Q Who." In the episode's cold open, Ensign Gomez ordered a cup of her preferred beverage from a food replicator, and was careful to say "please." Lieutenant La Forge (LeVar Burton) pointed out that one needn't say "please" and "thank you" to computers. Gomez then, possessed of nervous chatter, began to tell Laforge about how excited she was to be on the Enterprise. As she exited to put her drink down, she bumped into the captain coming the other way, spilling chocolate all over them both.
Ensign Gomez only appeared on "Next Generation" one other time, in "Samaritan Snare," but was given less to do. Regardless, she stood out. Most Trekkies remember Gomez well...

Ensign Sonya Gomez, played by Lycia Naff, appeared in two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation before returning years later in Star Trek: Lower Decks. Sonya Gomez is a competent and enthusiastic Starfleet officer who helps reactivate shields and rescue Geordi La Forge in her Tng appearances. In Star Trek: Lower Decks, Gomez is now Captain of the USS Archimedes, using her engineering knowledge to overcome challenges and remaining calm in a crisis.
Lycia Naff appears as Ensign Sonya Gomez in two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation before her return to the franchise years later in Star Trek: Lower Decks. Introduced in Tng season 2, episode 16, "Q Who," Ensign Gomez served on the USS Enterprise-d in Engineering under the direct command of Lt. Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton). Star Trek: Lower Decks connects directly to Star Trek: The Next Generation, revisiting beloved characters and moments from the iconic show. Legacy characters like Wesley Crusher, Sonya Gomez, and Nick Locarno make appearances in Lower Decks, voiced by the original Tng actors. Lower Decks takes the opportunity to add depth to tragic Tng characters like Sito Jaxa, expanding their stories and exploring their impact on the main characters in Lower Decks.
Since Star Trek: Lower Decks begins only one year after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis in the Trek timeline, it makes sense that several characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation would make an appearance. Following the adventures of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of the USS Enterprise-d, Tng has become one of the most beloved science fiction television shows of all time. When "Star Trek: Discovery" debuted on CBS All Access (later Paramount+) in 2017, no one could have guessed that the floodgates were about to open. "Discovery," which is struggling to get on its feet even to this day, was popular enough to spawn multiple additional "Star Trek" shows and spin-offs, leading to a 2023 landscape peppered with at least half a dozen different "Trek" series on the docket. With these new projects, the honchos over at "Star Trek," led by executive producer Alex Kurtzman, seem to be listening to the fans. In 2022, Paramount+ launched the very good "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," a throwback show set immediately before the original "Star Trek" series that features characters and actors who appeared on "Discovery." When Trekkies noticed how cool Pike (Anson Mount), Spock (Ethan Peck), and several others were, Paramount+ responded by kowtowing to demands and, miraculously, making a good show.

Star Trek: Picard season 3 introduces the daughters of Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), and each daughter represents the two roles he had aboard the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Showrunner Terry Matalas has said that Picard season 3 is all about giving the Tng crew a fitting send-off which hands over to Star Trek's next generation. Geordi's daughters Ensign Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) and Ensign Alandra La Forge (Mica Burton) will be key to that handover.
Geordi's daughters were introduced in Tng's finale, where a retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) asked about his former engineer's children. Although that interaction took place in an aborted alternate future, Picard season 3 has now confirmed the names of Sidney and Alandra in the prime Star Trek universe. It remains to be seen if their mother is, as hinted in Tng, the scientist Dr. Leah Brahms (Susan Gibney.

As a highly referential series, Star Trek: Lower Decks has beamed many live-action characters into the world of animation. Seasons one and two saw Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis as cartoon versions of Will Riker and Deanna Troi, now aboard the USS Titan. Lycia Naff, who played Ensign Gomez on a handful of Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes returned in animated form as Captain Gomez of the USS Archimedes. Even Star Trek: Voyager‘s Robert Duncan McNeill showed up as a Tom Paris commemorative plate.
But for season two of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks stars Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid will be boldly going where no character has gone before: from animation to live action. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Quaid confirmed that he and Newsome will be in costume as Ensigns Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler, respectively. Actress Lycia Naff would like to forget her role as a three-breasted prostitute in the 1990 film Total Recall, but one woman has reinvented herself as the character from the sci-fi film. Confirming that people will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame is 21-year-old "Jasmine Tridevil," who reportedly augmented her breasts with, well, a third. The Florida resident apparently spent $20,000 on the plastic surgery. What kind of doctor would do such a thing? Apparently Tridevil met with 50 doctors before one would agree to perform the bizarre surgery (taking skin from her abdomen to graft the extra breast. And what compelled Tridevil to get the surgery? She stated it was an attempt to appear less attractive to men. “I don't want to date...

The Enterprise is en route to perform a survey of a pulsar cluster (Brave New Worlds!) just as it emerges that Captain Picard needs to get his dodgy ticker replaced. Unwilling to let Pulaski operate on him (understandable) and preferring not to divert the ship from its course, Picard and Wesley hop into a shuttle and head off to a nearby space station while the Enterprise continues on its way.
Before the Enterprise can reach the Pulsars, they encounter a ship which appears to have broken down. Onboard are the Pakleds – a group of aliens who Data posits may have underdeveloped language centres. Which means they seem to be about as smart as the average four year old. They want help...

Fans of the original "Total Recall" will be happy to know that one of their favorite characters is back in the Colin Farrell remake: the mutant Mary. Don't recall her name? Perhaps you'd recognize her more from her pronounced physical deformity, the extra mammary gland that made her known as the three-breasted woman (Google it if you need to jog your possibly altered memory banks). Lycia Naff, who played this iconic part, was happy to reminisce with Vulture about her "Total Recall" days, celebrity run-ins, and why Denise Richards once called her a c--t.

As is pretty inevitable with any remake, this week’s hot new release Total Recall is currently undergoing a million and a half comparisons to the 1990 original. Both movies, based on a Philip K. Dick story called “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale,” concern a man named Douglas Quaid who is plagued by disturbing nightmares and visits a service called Rekall that promises to improve your life by implanting new memories into your brain. Both movies also star an incredibly good-looking cast that make us look forward to a future in which everyone’s bodies will be perfectly toned. Since we’ve yet to catch the new flick, we here at VH1 Celebrity are going to tackle this comparison a little differently: by superficially comparing stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone and Rachel Ticotin to Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel. Oh, and we haven’t forgotten baddies Ronny Cox and Bryan Cranston,...

Any three-breasted news is good news. The much oggled Leeb (below) has taken time out to chat with the Ottawa Citizen about her new role in the Len Wiseman directed remake set for release next month. The hush-hush role sees Leeb sport her third breast made famous and iconic in Paul Verhoeven's 1990 sci-fi adaption where actress Lycia Naff played the role. [caption id="attachment_57528" align="aligncenter" width="610" caption="Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall"]/caption] I watched Paul Verhoeven's 1990 sci-fi feature Total Recall last week, primarily in preparation for the upcoming remake and to reacquaint myself with the film after not having seen it for several years. To no real surprise it played just as expected, I never believed it was a great film, but it has some truly memorable sequences I'm not likely to ever forget. That said, I thought I'd feature those sequences here and ask if anything else from the film particularly stands out in your mind. As a sci-fi film I think Total Recall holds some kind of a place in history (though I'm still not sure exactly what to call that "place") and while it doesn't feel like Len Wiseman's upcoming remake (watch the trailer here) is trampling on hallowed ground, I think Verhoeven's original may pose as a potential roadblock for the new film in terms of receiving cross-generational acclaim.

What was a simple throwaway sight gag featuring actress Lycia Naff in prosthetics became one of the more memorable moments of Paul Verhoeven's utterly enjoyable 1990 sci-fi feature "Total Recall" - the triple-boobed mutant prostitute.
Now with the remake in production, many have been wondering what elements from the Verhoeven film will appear in this new adaptation of the Philip K. Dick story which we know is already foregoing some of the major elements seen in the 1990 Schwarzenegger movie.
