The golfing world and those who cover it struggled this weekend to make sense of the death of Grayson Murray, a 30-year old PGA player who died by suicide after dropping out of an underway tournament, the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Veteran broadcaster Jim Nantz had to announce Murray’s death live on air for CBS. He was overcome with emotion while talking.

PGA Tour golfer Peter Malnati also became emotional when speaking about Murray.

Malnati and Murray played in the same group during the first two rounds of the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas. Murray then withdrew on Friday, claiming illness.

“This is going to be really hard,” Malnati said in an interview with CBS’ Amanda Balionis during the broadcast. “I didn’t know Grayson all that well, but I spent the last two days with him. It’s so funny, we get so worked up out here...

Taylor Swift celebrated Travis Kelce’s Super Bowl win with several long embraces on the field at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday night.

Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, beat the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night to win Super Bowl Lviii in Las Vegas.

During the presentation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Swift was seen standing next to Kelce’s mom, Donna, as he spoke with CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz.

She was seen smiling and clapping as the Chiefs’ tight end first busted into a few lines of Elvis Presley’s song “Viva Las Vegas” before then leading the crowd in the Beastie Boys’ “Fight for Your Right.”

After that rousing speech, Swift greeted Kelce with a long hug and several kisses on the field, as she did two weeks ago when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship Game.

Two shirtless football fans were taken away in handcuffs after running onto the field during Super Bowl Lviii in Las Vegas on Sunday.

The two men, who appeared shirtless with illegible writing displayed on their torsos and backs, sprinted onto the football field at Allegiant Stadium with approximately five minutes remaining in the third quarter. The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are currently facing off for the ultimate prize, the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Several security officials quickly ran onto the field, tackling both individuals to the ground before walking them out of the stadium.

The two men were later captured on video in the back, being escorted by a handful of police officers in handcuffs. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for more information, and to find out if the two men are facing any charges.

President Joe Biden will not be sitting down for an interview with CBS News prior to the Super Bowl on Feb. 11.

The network said that the White House declined CBS News’ request for an interview with the President.

This marks the second consecutive year that Biden will not sit down for a conversation with the network hosting the big game.

Last year, the Biden administration declined Fox News’ request for an interview and instead issued a statement explaining that the president would chat with Fox Soul ahead of the game. That interview fell through when, according to the White House, parent company Fox Corp. asked that it be canceled.

President Biden did sit down for an interview in the first two years of his term, speaking with CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell in 2021 and NBC News’ Lester Holt in 2022. It is not clear who CBS News had in mind for this year’s game.

An interview with the U.S. President in the hours before the Super Bowl has become a tradition in recent decades. Now that custom seems to be in danger of dying out.

President Joe Biden will not take part in an exchange during the pre-game festivities leading up to CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl Lviii on February 11, according to CBS News. The Paramount Global news operation had been in discussions with the White House in recent weeks. Details about which correspondent might have been eyed for the assignment could not be learned, but the CBS News offer was believed to have been for a 15-minute interview, three or four minutes of which would have aired during the network’s pre-game coverage.

This will mark the second year in a row that President Biden has turned down the opportunity, which typically draws an audience of tens of millions, even in the hours before kickoff.

The two teams facing off at Super Bowl Lviii will be determined this weekend when the NFC and AFC crown their champions on Sunday, Jan. 28.

Vying for the AFC championship are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens, with a home-field advantage for the latter as the teams will play at M&t Bank Stadium. Taylor Swift has once again made an impact with her presence at an NFL game, and this time caught the attention of CBS viewers at the Kansas City Chiefs versus Buffalo Bills matchup on Sunday.

In the broadcast, CBS announcer Tony Romo mistakenly labeled Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce‘s relationship with Swift and sent her fans into a frenzy.

As the Chiefs faced a third-and-long, quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed a 23-yard pass to Kelce, which resulted in the first down. Romo and play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz expressed their amazement at the play.

“That’s amazing,” Romo exclaimed as the cameras showed Swift in the audience. “This is intercepted by most people, as you see Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift, in the audience – er, I’m sorry.”

What the Fox is happening with the annual Super Bowl interview with President Joe Biden?

The White House on Friday night appeared to squelch any hope of the pre-game ritual taking place, noting that it had not signed off on any exchange between the president and any representative of Fox Corp., the media company with the broadcast network showing the Big Game.

“As we said earlier, we had arranged an interview with Fox Sports Host Mike Hill & Vivica A. Fox with the President ahead of the Super Bowl and Fox Corp had the interview cancelled. Fox has since put out a statement indicating the interview was rescheduled, which is inaccurate,” a White House spokesperson said.

The new statement adds another level of back-and-forth brinkmanship between the Biden White House and the company that operates one of its biggest critics, Fox News Channel.

When Super Bowl Lvii arrives on Sunday, Fox is prepared to broadcast hours and hours of the event, with all of the usual trappings — except, perhaps, one.

With just three days to go before the Kansas City Chiefs square off against the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the White House has yet to commit to the traditional interview between the President of the United States and the news division of the media company broadcasting the gridiron classic, potentially shunning a conversation that would be seen by one of TV’s biggest audiences. Fox News attached no conditions to the exchange according to a person familiar with the matter, which has been a staple of the event (more or less) since President Barack Obama started doing it in 2009.

A final decision has yet to be announced, and there is still a chance the conversation could take place.

Nick Faldo, an ex-pga Tour standout and longtime golf commentator on CBS Sports and The Golf Channel, has announced his retirement from announcing.

In a statement posted today on Twitter, the British Faldo said he will conclude his 16-year career as a CBS Sports and Golf Channel commentator with the Aug. 7 Wyndham Championship. Faldo notes that the first PGA Tour event he played was at the same tournament 43 years ago, then called Greater Greensboro Open.

Faldo most recently covered the Rbc Canadian Open nine days ago and will be working this week at the Travelers Championship.

One of the biggest voices in golf media says he will retire from the broadcast booth. Nick Faldo, the six-time major champion who has been the lead golf analyst on CBS Sports and the Golf Channel for more than 15 years, announced his decision in an open letter Tuesday.

CBS says that Trevor Immelman, the South African and 2008 Masters winner who began broadcasting golf in 2017 with Turner Sports and joined CBS in 2019, will replace him in the broadcast tower alongside CBS’ longtime golf announcer Jim Nantz. Faldo’s last appearance will be Aug. 7 at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina, with Immelman taking over for the 2023 season at the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego.

The tradition of a Super Bowl pre-game presidential interview will continue on Sunday, when NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt sits down with President Joe Biden.

The interview will take place in Virginia, where the president is scheduled to be on Thursday. Portions will air on NBC Nightly News on Thursday, with additional highlights the next day on Today, MSNBC, NBCNews.com and NBC News Now. NBC Nightly News also will have further excerpts.

Jim Nantz will have more time to say “Hello Friends” on CBS.

The sportscasting veteran will extend his time with CBS Sports as part of a contract renewal that will keep one of the network’s key sportscasters on board for several more years.

A CBS Sports spokesperson confirmed that Nantz, known for calling CBS’ Sunday-football package alongside Tony Romo, and for narrating both its Masters and NCAA March Madness coverage, would remain at the network following a recent negotiation. CBS Sports declined to offer specifics of the new deal. Sports Business Journal previously reported Nantz’ contract renewal.

Nantz’ pact had been slated to expire this Spring, and that had spurred questions to Sean McManus, chairman of CBS Sports, during a recent press conference marking the start of March Madness. McManus had said he had “no plans” to change Nantz’ status with the network following the basketball tournament.

Tiger Woods was hospitalized on Tuesday morning after sustaining serious injuries to both his legs when his car flipped over in a single-car accident in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

Woods was the sole occupant of the vehicle when the accident occurred at 7:12 a.m. Pt and was conscious and showed “no evidence of impairment” when he was pulled from the wreckage with an ax, L.A. Country Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Tuesday afternoon during a press conference.

A stifling Tampa Bay defense had Mahomes running for his life for much of the game, as Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles devised an attacking defense that threw Mahomes off his game. The highly anticipated battle of the ages between 43-year-old Tom Brady and 25-year-old Patrick Mahomes didn’t exactly materialize in the first half of Super Bowl Lv.

That’s because crafty defense by Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles kept Mahomes and the potent Chiefs offense bottled up while Brady ran wild on the Chiefs.

Brady, playing for his record 7th Super Bowl ring, hooked up with old sidekick Rob Gronkowski for two touchdowns. It was the most Super Bowl touchdowns by a quarterback-receiver combo, and Gronk’s14 touchdowns moved him past Jerry Rice on the list of receiving touchdowns. The feat was made all the more remarkable by the fact that Gronkowski took off all of last season, attending the Super Bowl as a spectator.

Tampa Bay almost had a third touchdown in the first half, as running back Ronald Jones was stopped on fourth down just short of the goal line.

Viewers looking to stream the Super Bowl took a blindside hit Sunday.

As the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday in Tampa, ViacomCBS’ streaming app, CBS All Access, experienced technical issues and outages for customers. According to website DownDetector.com, reports of problems with CBS All Access spiked around 6:30 p.m. Et, just as the game began, then began to taper off within the next 10 minutes. DownDetector recorded 25,100 complaints at 6:27 p.m.

Roku users and desktop users were among those experiencing difficulties. As the volume of viewers increased dramatically around kick off, many viewers found themselves unable to join the stream. Users who were already watching CBS’ live stream experienced no service interruptions. The technical issue was resolved once the game was underway.

A CBS spokesperson declined to comment.

The interview will air at 4 Pm Et, before Super Bowl kickoff in Tampa between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The interview will be taped at the White House, and portions also will air on CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell on Friday and on Sunday on Face the Nation.
