Lydia Wilson in Requiem (2018)
Early ‘Resident Evil Requiem’ Concept Was an Online Game
Lydia Wilson in Requiem (2018)
With Resident Evil Requiem being playable at Gamescom 2025 in August, and the game’s release scheduled for early next year, we’re all hoping for more info on the game to arrive sooner rather than later. Capcom has obliged somewhat in a new Creators’ Message video, revealing a little more info on Requiem‘s development. That includes the reveal that early on, one of the game’s original incarnations was online-based.

Available on Capcom’s website (it’s free to sign up), the new developer diary video features Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi revealing that the development team early on had experimented with several gameplay styles for the ninth entry in the series. That included an online version, which you can see early footage of in the video.

“You might have heard some of the rumours, things like an online Resident Evil or an open world Resident Evil, which we spent some time experimenting with,...

Leon Won't Star In Resident Evil Requiem Says Capcom - "He's A Bad Match For Horror"
Image
Series staple Leon S. Kennedy may not be featured as a protagonist in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, if the game's director is to be believed. Fans got a first peek at the ninth game in the franchise during the Summer Game Fest earlier this month, dropping a full trailer, an official name, and the reveal of one of the protagonists.

Fans were quick to speculate about which familiar faces from the franchise would make an appearance in Resident Evil Requiem, especially with the potential of multiple perspectives on the table. Sadly, it looks like Leon might not be one of the game's protagonists, although it's certainly not set in stone yet. In a creator's message from the June 2025 Capcom Spotlight, the game's director Koshi Nakanishi admits that the team "thought about making Leon the protagonist," but that he's "actually quite a bad match for horror."

The full statement regarding...

Resident Evil Requiem Is Gunning for RE7’s Crown and It Might Actually Take It
Image
After several years of dominance in the franchise, it seems that Resident Evil 7 is finally getting a worthy competitor – Resident Evil Requiem. It is an upcoming title from Capcom that promises to bring a lot of horror, which the fans have been craving for. Since 2017, RE7 has held the top position as it has everything the players hoped for. Terrifying sequences, witty dialogues, and combat are just a few of those things that made the game memorable for the fans.

From what it seems, the top position is about to get challenged by Resident Evil Requiem, as promised by the game’s director. Not to hype up anything, but even they think that in comparison with RE7 and Revelations, fans will love Requiem more.

Resident Evil Requiem might be the best Re game ever

Ever since it was revealed that Koshi Nakanishi was going to direct Requiem, fans began to...

Short Film Review: Confession (2025) by Mai Nakanishi
Image
One of the rare occasions where a filmmaker explores the horror and thriller genres through short storytelling, Mai Nakanishi‘s latest effort, “Confession,” was shot by cinematographer Akiko Ashizawa, known for her long-standing collaboration with Kiyoshi Kurosawa on works such as the Un Certain Regard 2008 winner “Tokyo Sonata.”

Confession is screening at Nippon Connection

The story begins with a priest reciting the Lord’s Prayer inside a Christian church. Suddenly, a woman appears behind him, urging him to turn around and telling him she wants to make a confession, right there, in the very place they both sit. She proceeds to recount her years in elementary school, when she was relentlessly bullied. Unable to confront her trauma, she found a disturbing outlet by crushing caterpillars in her hands. As the bullying escalated, so too did her violence.

Mai Nakanishi crafts a haunting work that excels particularly in its atmosphere. Several elements contribute to this effect.

Image
Sailor Moon fans around the world are in for a treat this year as the Sailor Moon: The Super Live show performs for U.S. audiences. The cast of the musical recently sat down to discuss their roles, how Sailor Moon has inspired them and, most of all, how The Super Live will still feel like classic Sailor Moon.

The pivotal magical girl anime defined a generation in the '90s -- fans grew up reading the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon manga week to week in Kodansha's shojo manga magazine Nakayoshi and standing guard at their televisions waiting for new episodes to air. Over 30 years later, Sailor Moon is still earning new fans in the streaming era, where they can take their pick between the original Dic dub, the Viz dub or the original Japanese dub for the '90s anime, not to mention the more manga-faithful Sailor Moon Crystal...

Resident Evil 9 is in development, Capcom confirms
Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez in Resident Evil (2002)
Koshi Nakanashi, who directed 2017’s Resident Evil 7, is to take the lead on Resident Evil 9, which is now in development according to Capcom.

Japanese studio Capcom has made a huge success out of its remakes of bygone Resident Evil games, with last year’s Resident Evil 4 picking up awards and breaking sales records for its sensitive updating of the 2005 classic.

Capcom is also looking to the survival horror series’ future, however, having just confirmed that it’s currently working on Resident Evil 9 – the first proper sequel since 2021’s Resident Evil Village. Development will be headed up by Koshi Nakanashi, who previously directed 2017’s Resident Evil: Biohazard.

Shifting the series’ perspective from third- to first-person, Biohazard was widely regarded as a leaner, scarier return to form following the increasingly action-focused Resident Evil 5 and 6.

During the announcement that Resident Evil 7 would be coming to Apple devices tomorrow, Nakanishi chatted about his history with the franchise. In doing so, he revealed that Capcom was working on the next entry in the series, insinuating his involvement. “It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7: Biohazard]. But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial.”

Nakanishi declined to share details on the next entry, but hopes fans will be excited for the day he does reveal those details.

Short Film Review: Swallow (2021) by Mai Nakanishi
Image
Following the excellent “Hana”, Mai Nakanishi presents another stylized horror short, that has already won an award from Tampere.

“Swallow“ is screening at Across Asia Film Festival

The film begins with Mimi, a young woman, taking the elevator in a luxurious apartment complex, where another woman, Xue Lan has invited her to have lunch. It is soon revealed that both are actresses, and about to star in the same movie. Xue Lan, however, despite her seemingly polite demeanor, is actually condescending and uppity, flaunting her relationship with the producer and director to her co-star, as much as the difference in their status within the industry. Mimi smiles through it, but eventually a sharp comeback leaves her lips, hitting the other woman right where it hurts: the fact that she seems much older than her guest. The discussion leads to the second part of the movie, where Mimi has invited Xue...
