‘Ni’ihau’ Recast & Ready: How The WWII Indie Navigated A Whitewashing Backlash
Zach McGowan
Exclusive, Update, writethru with comment from Zach McGowan reps: In May 2017, Deadline broke the news that Zach McGowan had been cast as the lead in Gabriel Robertson’s historical drama Ni’ihau, based on the true story of a WWII confrontation on the titular Hawaiian island. Almost immediately, there was strong reaction to the fact that the role of real-life Hawaii native Ben Kanahele had gone to a Caucasian actor, amid calls of whitewashing and what Ni’ihau producer Ken Petrie says was “a tidal wave of backlash.” The role was ultimately recast with Joseph Naufahu, and the film is now finished. So how did a first-time producer and filmmaker fumble, then navigate the deep waters in which they suddenly found themselves on Ni’ihau?

The original casting turn seems pretty surprising, particularly after public outcries surrounding Emma Stone playing...

"It won't stop until they control everyone." Opening in theaters everywhere worldwide this weekend is the live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, based on the popular manga/anime, starring Scarlett Johansson as the human-cyborg Major. The sci-fi action movie also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, Michael Wincott, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, plus Takeshi Kitano, Joseph Naufahu, with Pilou Asbæk as Batou. Exclusive: Peter Dinklage Crashes Emilia Clarke's 'Game of Thrones' Set Tour
Game of Thrones (2011)
In Et’s exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Game of Thrones season six, the mood is far from the serious tone seen on HBO.

The featurette clip shows Emilia Clarke (our very own Daenerys Targaryen) giving audiences a backstage tour of the Meereen set, where her character makes her triumphant return after disappearing at the end of season five. “Getting ready for a badass entrance,” Clarke says before turning to the women behind Daenerys’ iconic onscreen looks.

While introducing her makeup and hair team, co-star Peter Dinklage (aka Tyrion Lannister) crashes the tour. “Just fixing the tele,” Dinklage jokes as he attempts to hide behind a monitor before running off.

While Dinklage is the one seen pranking Clarke, the actress has her own past with causing trouble on set. In May, she opened up to The Insider about drawing all over the face of...

'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Featurette Goes Behind-the-Scenes
Game of Thrones (2011)
With less than two short months left until Season 6 of Game of Thrones debuts, fans are eagerly awaiting any footage from the new episodes. Today, HBO debuted a behind-the-scenes video, which features several members of the show's camera department, who reveal why their jobs give them "the best seat in the house." The five-minute video does feature plenty of footage from the set, offering brief glimpses at Game of Thrones stars such as Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister), Carice van Houten (Melissandre), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Michiel Huisman (Daario Naharis) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister).

Unfortunately, these brief behind-the-scenes glimpses don't offer too many details about the story that is unfolding this season, but the first trailer released earlier this month offered quite the cryptic tease. The video showcased the infamous Hall of Faces at the House of Black and White. The Faceless Men use these faces, combined with an array of magical spells,...

18 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Character Posters Tease Death and Resurrection
Game of Thrones (2011)
Exactly two months from today, fans will finally get to revisit the magical world of Westeros when Game of Thrones debuts its long-awaited Season 6. Earlier today, a new poster debuted, which surprised many fans since it featured the face of Robb Stark (Richard Madden), who was brutally killed during the infamous Red Wedding in Season 3. As it turns out, that one-sheet was just the tip of the iceberg, since HBO has debuted a slew of new posters featuring characters from both Westeros' past and present.

Earlier this month, the network released the first trailer, which showcased the infamous Hall of Faces at the House of Black and White. The Faceless Men use these faces,...

Watch 'Game of Thrones' Melisandre Attend a Baby Shower with Seth Meyers
If you've watched NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers over the past two years, you'll likely have learned that host Seth Meyers is an unabashed Game of Thrones fan. The late night host has previously had author George R.R. Martin on as a guest, and last year, he put together a hilarious sketch with Kit Harington as Jon Snow attending a modern-day dinner party. Last night, the host welcomed Carice van Houten, who plays the Red Priestess Melisandre on the beloved HBO series, where they aired another hilarious Game of Thrones-themed sketch featuring Melisandre at a baby shower.

Much like the Jon Snow dinner party, this sketch features a number of references to Game of Thrones. When Melisandre is encouraged to tell a "funny story," she recounts the time she gave birth to a "shadow demon," that then proceeded to kill Renly Baratheon. Obviously, this isn't quite the most traditional baby shower story,...

'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Teaser, Full Trailer Coming Sunday
Game of Thrones (2011)
Yesterday, HBO released over 20 new photos from Season 6 of Game of Thrones, which led many to wonder when the first full trailer will arrive. Last month, the cable network released brief videos which teased new developments from the four major "houses" in Westeros, but it didn't include any footage. Earlier today, the Game of Thrones Twitter feed announced that the first full trailer will debut Sunday, February 14 at 8:59 Pm Et, just before the series premiere of Vinyl.

The network also released a 10-second trailer preview, which showcases the Hall of Faces in the House of Black and White. Last season, Maisie Williams' Arya Stark journeyed across the sea to the House of Black and White, where she trained to be a "Faceless Man" under the tutelage of Jacquen H'gar (Tom Wlaschiha). Arya's training didn't go so well, though, and at the end of the season, Jacquen H'gar blinded the young girl.

'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Is the Biggest Yet Says Sophie Turner
Game of Thrones (2011)
When Game of Thrones first aired in 2010, fans had the original George R.R. Martin books as a guide, and although the series did stray from the novels on several occasions, fans largely knew what was coming next. The upcoming Season 6 represents uncharted territory for fans of the show and the books alike, since the author still has not finished his sixth and seventh books in the series, leaving fans in the dark about what to expect. Entertainment Weekly caught up with series star Sophie Turner, who teased that Game of Thrones Season 6 is the best yet for her character, Sansa Stark.

"I mean this season is a really, really big one for Sansa. It's probably her best season yet. It's her really coming into her own. She, this season, really commands the respect that she deserves and she grabs hold of it and she runs with it and it's really good.

'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Videos Tease Houses Stark, Lannister and Targaryen
Game of Thrones (2011)
Earlier this month, HBO announced that Season 6 of the beloved fantasy series Game of Thrones will debut on Sunday, April 25, starting the official countdown to this highly-anticipated series' return. While the network still hasn't released a full trailer with new footage, the show's official Twitter account asked fans to tweet with the hashtags #HouseStark, #HouseTargaryen or #HouseLannister. The Twitter feed would then respond to each tweet with a brief teaser focusing on each house, which teases a number of cryptic developments.

The Game of Thrones video centering on House Lannister showcased a shredded version of the Lannister flag, with the voice of Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow revealing that even though they are poor with no power, the Sparrows can "overthrow an empire." The Stark family flag is also in ruins, as we hear the voice of Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) claiming that "Winterfell is mine. The Targaryen video is a bit more interesting,...

With fans still reeling from the death of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in the Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones, HBO certainly hasn't made it any easier to mourn. Last week, the cable network released the first poster for Season 6 of Game of Thrones, slated to debut in April, which featured the bloody face of Jon Snow. Today, HBO has debuted the first trailer, which prominently features Jon Snow from the epic Battle of Hardhome, along with several other iconic moments from the show's five season run. Perhaps most importantly, though, this trailer features the voice of returning star Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Bran Stark, along with Max von Sydow as the Three-Eyed Raven.

At the end of Season 4, Bran Stark finally reached the Weirwood Tree and met the elusive Three-Eyed Raven. Since his story had essentially caught up to the George R.R. Martin novels, both Bran and Hodor (Kristian Nairn) sat Season 5 out,...

Jon Snow Returns in 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Poster
Spoiler Alert! After the shocking Season 5 finale of HBO's Game of Thrones, one of the many questions left unresolved is whether or not Kit Harington's Jon Snow is really alive or dead. The Night's Watch commander was savagely attacked by his "brothers," who left him for dead during the finale, Mother's Mercy. While we likely won't get any solid confirmation about Jon Snow's fate until next year, the show's official Twitter account has released the first Season 6 poster, featuring a cryptic image of Snow, while teasing that the new season will debut in April.

There has been plenty of evidence that supports http://movieweb.com/game-of-thrones-season-6-kit-harington-jon-snow/Kit Harington's Jon Snow being both alive and dead. Back in September, new photos surfaced that showed Kit Harington on the Northern Ireland set. Some have speculated that the Red Priestess Melissandre (Carice van Houten) could use her supernatural powers...
