When “Virgin River” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith chose to expand to the universe with a prequel, he knew the casting had to be right. Luckily, he found Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr to take on the roles of Mel’s parents, Sarah Jensen and Everett Reed.

“It was a search. It was always the plan that this could potentially be a back-door pilot, introducing this new timeline, so we cast with that in mind,” Smith tells Variety ahead of the Season 6 drop, during which Rothe and Kerr make their debut. “We did chemistry reads with them and a couple of other actors who were really incredible. But Jess and Callum had such a spark together, such a fire together that it felt like we had hit gold in casting them.”

The spinoff, he says, will focus “not just the romance of Sarah and Everett, but also the origins of Virgin River in the 1970s.

Soap life is good. Virgin River’s sixth season is just around the corner, and fans are going into the season knowing that there will be a seventh season. “Virgin River” follows the lives of the residents of the eponymous Northern California town, including nurse practitioner Mel (Breckenridge), bar owner and veteran Jack (Henderson), town doctor Doc (Matheson), mayor Hope (O’Toole) and many more.

After four years, Netflix's Virgin River has finally solved one of Mel's biggest mysteries – the identity of her father, "Champ." The melodrama follows the residents of Virgin River, California, after a big-city nurse practitioner named Melinda "Mel" Monroe moves to town, hoping to get a fresh start. Virgin River introduces dynamic characters who all impact the storyline; however, the narrative continually returns to Mel.

Netflix’s Virgin River closed out its fifth season with a two-episode Christmas special set during the holidays, more than three months after the “Labor Day” Season 5 Part 1 finale. As suggested by the aptly titled Episode 512, “Father Christmas,” the special’s main storyline follows the bombshell cliffhanger in the Part 1 finale, that Mel’s biological father is likely a man from Virgin River.

There’s more Killer Klowns from Outer Space merchandise heading our way! A couple days ago, we heard that Spirit Halloween stores are teaming up with Funko for a limited edition Funko Pop! figure – called the Killer Klowns Movie Moment Funko – that will only be available in select Spirit stores and on the Spirit website. It seems crazy to me that Spirit Halloween stores are apparently having great success selling merchandise related to the 1988 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here), and yet we still haven’t heard that the long-awaited sequel has been given a greenlight. But while we continue to wait for that sequel (and look forward to the video game), Spirit Halloween has now announced that they’ve teamed up with Funko to create a limited edition Funko Pop! that will only be available in select Spirit stores and on the Spirit website. This figure, which is being produced to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Killer Klowns from Outer Space, “brings to life the iconic scene where Bibbo and Shorty pop out of a pizza box and zap an unsuspecting victim with their cotton candy gun.”

Back in 1988, the Chiodo Brothers brought us the cult classic horror comedy Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here) – and pretty much ever since, they have been hoping to get the chance to make a sequel to the film. There’s still no word on a Killer Klowns 2, but sometime in 2023 there will be a Killer Klowns from Outer Space video game released for PC, Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One… and during a conversation with ComicBook.com, the Chiodos revealed that some of the ideas they had for a sequel have been worked into the game.

A couple months ago, it was announced that a video game based on the 1988 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here) will be released for PC, Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One sometime in 2023. A trailer for the game can be seen in the embed above, and now the folks at IGN have shared a video that shows how closely the video game resembles the movie it’s based on. That video can be viewed at the bottom of this article.

When the announcement was made, it was said that the video game maps would be “inventive, but faithful recreations of iconic locations from the Killer Klowns from Outer Space movie.” The video below does a great job of showing just how faithful these location recreations are.

The Killer Klowns from Outer Space video game is a multiplayer, asymmetrical (3 vs 7) horror game that pits three Klowns against seven Humans.

It's a balmy summer evening, the stars are out, and something strange just dropped out of the sky and landed in the woods near your hometown. What should you do? Warn the sheriff, knowing he never really listens to punk kids like you anyway? Investigate and poke it with a stick? Or ignore it and carry on making out in the back of your Convertible? 

All the above answers are viable and correct if you're a stock character in a B movie horror involving hostile visitors from outer space, who like parking up on the edge of a small town where the hicks are too dumb to realize what is going on until it's almost too late. The premise was a staple of the atomic-era science fiction of the 1950s, and many directors who grew up with fond memories of those movies made their own versions in the 1980s.

Spirit Halloween stores are filling their shelves with Killer Klowns merchandise, Mego is releasing an 8″ version of the clown Jumbo, Waxwork Records has released the score on vinyl, and there’s going to be a Killer Klowns from Outer Space haunted house at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights this year.
