Captain America: Brave New World opened earlier this year to 46% on Rotten Tomatoes and ended its run at the global box office with a disappointing $415 million.

The movie got caught up in 2023's Hollywood strikes, but was also heavily reshot. All of The Leader's scenes were scrapped, the final battle removed Isaiah Bradley and Sabra, and Giancarlo Esposito's Sidewinder replaced the Serpent Society.

Marvel Studios clearly attempted to fix a movie that wasn't working, but the result was one of the studio's biggest letdowns. Where did it all go wrong for Captain America: Brave New World? Well, according to Kevin Feige, the movie didn't work because it "was the first without Chris Evans."

Anthony Mackie led the cast as Sam Wilson, the McU's new Captain America. Avengers: Endgame ended with Steve Rogers presenting the former Falcon with the shield, but that was six years ago, and Marvel Studios decided...

Captain America: Brave New World may have gone through more extensive reshoots than any MCU movie before it. The superpowered Serpent Society was cut, all of The Leader's scenes were reshot after his appearance was redesigned, and Sidewinder was added as a new villain.

Those are just a few of the changes (another saw Red Hulk still free and keeping watch over Betty Ross from afar). We've seen promo art showing Isaiah Bradley wearing a costume, but that's now been fully revealed in a photo showcasing the movie's stunt team.

It's previously been reported that Isaiah and Sabra suited up to help Sam Wilson fight Red Hulk in the final battle. For whatever reason, Marvel Studios decided that the new Captain America should go it alone, and Bradley never got his superhero moment as a result.

Reshoots completely reshaped Captain America: Brave New World, and the Serpent Society in its original form ended up on the cutting room floor.

Rosa Salazar and Seth Rollins were cast as Diamondback and Cobra, and were in the movie long enough for the former to receive her own Happy Meal toy last year. When all was said and done, the Serpent Society became Sidewinder's grounded (some might say "generic") group of mercenaries, the Serpents.

Thanks to The Artbook Collector, we now have a new look at Cobra and Asp, along with a first look at Red Hulk's mustache and beard, neither of which made it into the movie. Rather than follow the comics by having President Thaddeus Ross' facial hair vanish when he transforms—which was largely done to hide Red Hulk's identity—it was explained that he shaved it off during his Presidential campaign.

The video is really just the usual outtakes and behind-the-scenes shots of the cast having fun, but there is a pretty great Star Wars callback from Harrison Ford.

As the story goes, Ford jokingly yelled at George Lucas while shooting a scene involving some particularly cheesy dialogue on A New Hope: "George! You can type this shit, but you sure can't say it! Move your mouth when you're typing!"

Here, Ford turns to the camera while filming an early scene with Anthony Mackie and repeats the famous phrase.

Yesterday, we got word that Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World will be available to buy and rent on digital platforms from April 15, before releasing on 4K Blu-ray/DVD on May 13, and a pair of BTS featurettes from the bonus features have now been shared online.

The first highlights the early assassination attempt on President Ross (Harrison Ford), and we also have an interview with Tim Blake Nelson, who made his MCU return as Dr. Samuel Sterns after debuting in The Incredible Hulk back in 2008.

We caught a few shadowy glimpses of Sterns, aka the Leader, in the buildup to Brave New World's release, but he wasn't fully unveiled until the movie was in theaters, and the character's look was... not particularly well-received!

After a bumpy ride through production, Captain America: Brave New World reached theatres on February 14th – and over the last two months, it has earned about $413 million at the global box office. Now, SuperHeroHype has learned that the film is set to receive a digital release next week, on April 15th, with the 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release to follow on May 13th.

The film went into production in March of 2023, with filming lasting through June. In December of ’23, another screenwriter was brought onto the project to write new material for reshoots, which seemed to be quite substantial. It was said that the reshoots were primarily done to rework three major action sequences – and this included adding Giancarlo Esposito into the mix as Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society, while also dropping a Serpent Society character that was played by wrestler Seth Rollins.

Having grossed $9.2 million during its third weekend overseas, the MCU movie's momentum is slowing down. However, it has nearly reached $200 million at the international box office with $194.2 million in total.

Combined with its $176.6 million cume in North America, Captain America: Brave New World has reached $370.6 million.

Now, analysts predict a final worldwide gross between $405 million - $440 million; regardless of where it lands, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up will ultimately rank among Marvel Studios' lowest-earning titles.

Aside from being clean-shaven, his signature elongated cranium was much smaller, with his brain partially exposed (the character has had a similar look in the comics).

Nelson made his debut as Dr. Sterns in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, and even though he began his transformation into the Leader at the end of the movie, he hadn't been seen or mentioned in the MCU since until he resurfaced to seek revenge on President Ross (Harrison Ford).

Anthony Mackie's first solo adventure as Captain America ends the weekend with $163.7 million domestically, a figure widely considered a disappointment for a franchise this popular. Captain America: Brave New World has also had little in the way of competition, making its performance all the more underwhelming.

Having made $180 million overseas, the blockbuster now sits at $341.8 million worldwide. Cap's biggest challenge from here will be reaching the $400 million mark, a sum that barely puts it into "break-even" territory, never mind profitability.

Earlier today, artist Mushk Rizvi uploaded concept art for several past and upcoming MCU projects to her website...including Avengers: Doomsday. It was a pretty major blunder, albeit one that's unlikely to do any harm to the movie. If anything, it will just increase excitement.

The Marvel Studios movie dropped -60% internationally - -55% if you exclude China - by adding $35.3 million from 52 markets. That takes its overseas cume to $148.2 million which, combined with $141.2 million from North America, brings its global total to $289.4 million.

Profitability isn't exactly in sight but, assuming those reports about the budget ballooning to upwards of $300 million have been blown out of proportion, the movie could break even. Barely.

While we're waiting on updated international numbers, Captain America: Brave New World appears to be losing steam both overseas and domestically.

Captain America: Brave New World is entering its second weekend in theaters but Neon's The Monkey is proving to be stronger competition for the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster than expected.

The horror movie starring She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Tatiana Maslany is set to nab the indie distributor's second-highest opening ever with an estimated $12 million - $14 million haul following a $5 million Friday. That means it will debut at #2 with Captain America: Brave New World remaining at #1.

As things stand, the blockbuster grossed $7.5 million on Friday for a weekend likely to be somewhere between $25 million - $30 million. That's a little lower than estimates from earlier this week but those are always a little off one way or the other.

Should Captain America: Brave New World end the weekend with around $29 million, that will be a -67% decline for a running 10-day total of $142 million in North America. We're still waiting on updated international numbers.

Deadpool and Wolverine proved to be a much-needed box office jolt for Marvel Studios, and also went over pretty well with fans and critics. Unfortunately, Captain America: Brave New World wasn't quite able to keep the franchise on an even keel.

Though the movie did have a better-than-expected opening weekend (it's already passed the $200 million mark worldwide), the critical reception was mixed-negative, and the fourth Captain America movie is currently sitting - and unlikely to budge - at 49% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Brave New World does have its defenders, but it's probably fair to say that the movie hasn't resonated with the Marvel faithful in a way those involved with bringing the film to the screen will have been hoping for.

Director Julius Onah was asked about the movie's critical response during an interview with Esquire.

"All I'll say is that we were working very hard and are very passionate about the movie we made.

Captain America: Brave New World ends with President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross transforming into the out-of-control Red Hulk. Unlike Smart Hulk, She-Hulk, and Abomination, the villain never speaks and, as a result, is more akin to a "classic" angry Hulk.

Collider recently caught up with filmmaker Julius Onah and asked why Red Hulk doesn't talk in the Marvel Studios blockbuster.

"Whether or not Red Hulk should talk, that was something that came up quite a bit," he acknowledged. "My feeling was that he shouldn't, which is what is the case in the movie." According to the Captain America: Brave New World director, it came down to "the transformation that Ross is dealing with and the struggle that Ross is dealing with emotionally."

Onah added, "The moment you gave him language as a Hulk, then people can talk to each other, and you're moving away from pure id to a more rational being.

In Captain America: Brave New World's sole post-credits scene, Sam Wilson visits The Leader in The Raft and receives a vague warning about a Multiversal threat and the "others" coming to Earth-616.

Even mainstream media outlets have deemed it Marvel Studios' worst post-credits scene. Meanwhile, the response from fans has been mixed to negative at best (a shame seeing as an Avengers: Doomsday tease should have blown everyone's minds).

Talking to Collider, Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah explained that it was always the plan to forego a mid-credits scene in preference of a single Cap-centric final tease.

"It was always the case that what felt organic for this movie was just leaning into a post-credits sequence that could tease what's coming next," the filmmaker said. "We wanted to tease it in a way that didn't become too explicit. This is about introducing Sam as our new Captain America.

Liv Tyler returned as Betty Ross for Captain America: Brave New World, but it sounds like her involvement with the project was far from guaranteed.

Tyler only made a single appearance as the daughter of General "Thunderbolt" Ross in The Incredible Hulk, as most of the 2008 film's supporting characters fell by the wayside after Mark Ruffalo took over from Edward Norton as Bruce Banner.

However, after the late William Hurt's return as the general in Civil War was followed by Tim Roth (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law) and Tim Blake Nelson (who also features in Brave New Word), speculation started to mount that it may only be a matter of time before Tyler followed suit.

Ne Zha 2, a new Chinese blockbuster, recently became the world's highest-grossing animated movie and, as we write this, it's still breaking records. While it's found some success overseas, almost all of its $1.7 billion haul has come from the Middle Kingdom.

Captain America: Brave New World fell to Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy in the UK and, unsurprisingly, proved no match for Ne Zha 2 in China. That combination has put a big dent in its international cume. However, in China, not seeing the latest Marvel Studios movie has reportedly become a point of national pride.

According to the BBC, nationalist fans of Ne Zha 2 are strongly discouraging others from watching Captain America: Brave New World. One popular slogan being used on social media states, "I don't care if Ne Zha 2 can survive overseas, but Captain America 4 must die in China."

Captain America: Brave New World has officially crossed $200 million at the worldwide box office with a $204.6 million global haul. That's made up of $106.34 million (Friday - Tuesday) from North America and $98.27 million (Wednesday to Monday) from overseas.

We should have updated numbers by the weekend as there's been a slight delay in reporting caused by the long Presidents' Day weekend. International numbers also aren't shared quite as regularly as those in the U.S.

At this rate, Captain America: Brave New World should reach $300 million within the next week or so. There's relatively little in the way of competition as we head into March, so Marvel Studios may have at least a moderate hit on its hands here.

Marvel Studios has released some new poster art for Captain America: Brave New World, and Rotten Tomatoes has announced that The McU's latest Multiverse Saga instalment is the review aggregator's post popular movie of the week.

This basically means that users have been checking Brave New World's score more than any other film since the review embargo lifted last week, which is understandable after Sam Wilson's big-screen debut as the Sentinel of Liberty became just the third Marvel Studios movie to fail to reach "Fresh" status on the site after Eternals (47%) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (46%).

We thought Brave New World's score might fluctuate a little as more reviews were added, and it has now dropped to 49% based on 275 verdicts.

Back when Captain America: Brave New World (then known as New World Order) was filming, the very first set photos that found their way online featured members of the Serpent Society, with WWE Superstar Seth Rollins and Alita: Battle Angel star Rosa Salazar spotted shooting scenes in-costume as their respective characters.
