The first trailer for James Gunn's Superman perfectly shows off why David Corenswet is so perfect as the Man of Steel, as he breaks a 37-year-old live-action DC record. While James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe officially started with the animated Creature Commandos series, 2025's Superman reboot will be the franchise's first feature film. The movie will introduce David Corenswet as the latest live-action depiction of DC Comics' Superman, and the first official trailer for 2025's Superman has shown just how perfect he will be in the role.
Superman's first trailer puts David Corenswet's Man of Steel front-and-center, while also showing him off in his Clark Kent guise and introducing Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor and many more. The trailer's release has ignited new excitement for Superman, while is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, and has reminded viewers that David...

This week, Elton John’s “Tammy Faye” musical closed on Broadway after only 24 previews and 29 regular performances. Although the show, about the rise and fall of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, concluded its run on Dec. 8 as the Rocket Man’s worst-performing musical in New York following blockbuster successes “The Lion King,” “Billy Elliot: The Musical,” and “Aida,” “Tammy Faye” is hardly the only original musical with a religious theme to shutter unceremoniously in the past decade-plus. With the notable exception of “The Book of Mormon,” with its nine Tony Awards and 5,000 performances and counting, audiences have been singing from a different hymn sheet than these faith-based offerings.
In 2010, John’s fellow Egot champion Alan Menken brought a musical adaptation of the Steve Martin film “Leap of Faith” to Broadway with Tony nominee Raúl Esparza as the show’s conman who poses as a pastor to swindle Kansas townspeople. Despite the...

Christmas is a time for joy, warmth, and family gatherings, and Christmas movies play a significant role in amplifying these festive feelings. They provide a shared experience that brings people together, evoking memories of past holidays and creating new traditions. From heartwarming tales of love and redemption to hilarious comedies that capture the chaos of the season, the best Christmas films have a unique ability to resonate with audiences of all ages. These movies often become cherished classics, eagerly anticipated each year, and serve as a backdrop for countless holiday celebrations.
However, not all Christmas films manage to capture the magic and spirit that make the season so special. While many succeed in delivering memorable stories and endearing characters, some fall short, leaving viewers disappointed and critics unimpressed. The reasons behind these missteps vary widely. Poor storytelling can result in convoluted plots that fail to engage or emotionally connect with the audience.

Superman is, as we all know, one of the best, most popular, and strongest comic book characters ever. The guy has been around since 1938 and is one of DC Comics’ biggest assets. Throughout his career, Superman has – for the most part – embodies the ideals of heroism and his name has, somewhat, become a synonym for superheroism in general. Of course, the character’s popularity resulted in a series of major adaptations, both live-action and animated, and in this article, we are going to talk about one specific aspect of these adaptations – the Superman suit!
The suit had been one of the most controversial aspects of each adaptation, as many fans judge an adaptation based on the quality of the suit. Superman's costume in the DC Extended Universe, worn by Henry Cavill, is one of the best live-action iterations due to its modern, realistic, and streamlined design. Christopher Reeve's iconic costume, while outdated by today's standards, remains unmatched due to his embodiment of Superman in the classic suit. John Haymes Newton & Gerard Christopher's TV costumes are highlighted as glaring missed opportunities with designs that failed to capture Superman's heroic character.
Superman has donned some iconic costumes throughout his live-action history, but some were distinctly more effective than others. Superman is the oldest and perhaps most famous superhero ever, with a litany of movies and television series depicting the iconic DC Comics hero. Superman has played a central part in the DC film franchise for decades and is expected to maintain this legacy in the Dcu's future. Whether this will manage to better Superman's most effective on-screen costume, however, remains to be seen.

Since 2018, creator group RDCWorld has organized an annual event series called Dream Con, which takes place in the group’s home state of Texas. The 2023 edition of Dream Con established several milestones for the yearly gathering: It was the first DreamCon to take place in Austin, and it drew the largest crowd in the convention’s history, with more than 20,000 attendees flocking to the Austin Convention Center.
Dream Con exists on several axes. On the surface, it’s a creator convention that provides a Texan complement to VidCon. For the members of RDCWorld, the three-day event is an opportunity to rub shoulders with like-minded creators and entertainment industry notables.

Superman has been adapted into multiple live-action TV shows, each approaching the character from a different angle and focusing on different aspects of his story. Some of the older TV shows, like Superboy and Adventures of Superman, had limitations in terms of special effects and storytelling, but they still hold importance in the history of Superman's live-action adventures. More recent shows, like Krypton and Superman & Lois, have pushed the boundaries by exploring new aspects of Superman's mythology and delivering big-screen worthy action scenes.
Superman has been adapted into many live-action incarnations, including seven television shows. From his debut in Action Comics #1 in 1938, Superman has crossed over into other forms of narrative media. Even before the Man of Steel's return in Superman: Legacy in the new Dcu, Clark Kent's heroic alterego has appeared in video games, along with animated shows and movies, with Superman being the hero of numerous live-action big-screen movies,...

As you’d expect, the internet went nuts recently with the news that James Gunn had found his Superman and Lois in David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Some of the comments were from people upset that Henry Cavill wouldn’t be returning to the role after his brief cameo in Black Adam, and others were grinding their personal axes, but most seemed pretty positive about the casting.

David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan's casting as Clark Kent and Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy breaks a record held by previous iterations of the DC couple. Anticipation for Superman: Legacy rises as the Dceu comes to an end and the beginning of the new DC Universe approaches. Before any details about the plot are revealed, the Superman: Legacy cast starts to take shape with the reveal of its first two main actors.
Naturally, the first two characters to be cast in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy are Clark Kent and Lois Lane, who will be portrayed by The Politician actor David Corenswet and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan. Both actors bear an uncanny resemblance to many of DC Comics' depictions of the characters, but they also bring their own distinct physical characteristics. More specifically, the new Superman and Lois Lane's heights mark a DC first.

Rest easy, the world is safe from evil henchmen once again. After an exhaustive search, Warner Bros. and DC Studios have finally settled on a new Superman. David Corenswet will be taking on his first major leading role as the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
Superman’s leading lady Lois Lane will be played by Rachel Brosnahan, who is coming off the final season of her Amazon hit The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Corenswet has some big tights to fill in the role that has been played by a host of actors on film and TV … and radio.
The first Superman was voiced by veteran actor Bud Collyer on the Adventures of Superman radio show that aired from 1940 to 1951. Collyer also was the voice of Superman in the animated series Superman (1941-1943) and the New Adventures of Superman (1966-1970).

DC's Man of Steel, Superman has had a live-action career spanning decades, and every Superman actor has brought his own take on the iconic hero. The wholesome DC Comics flag-bearer infamously inspired Batman's existence and has a combined global box office take of almost $3.5bn, including The Flash's take. After decades of TV shows and movie appearances, David Corenswet plays the 11th live-action iteration of Superman in 2025's Superman: Legacy.

Science fiction TV shows have a shorter shelf life than cryptocurrencies and social media influencers. What gives? It's not that complicated: big budgets + low ratings = cancellation. Hey, those space-age sets and costumes, alien makeup, and CGI aren't cheap. Meanwhile, passionate fans may sign petitions by the thousands, but ratings are what matters, and those fanbases are too small to impress execs trying to court advertisers.
Given the economics of television, it's not shocking TV studios routinely dump pricey sci-fi shows in favor of the newest "Big City Cop Show" procedural. To be honest, it's surprising sci-fi shows get made at all. Yep, it sucks, but that's show business. While it's easy to explain why most sci-fi TV shows get canceled, the reasons for some cancellations are downright baffling. These include sci-fi shows that were dropped despite decent ratings, canned with fully completed seasons, or even dumped after inspiring hunger strikes!

In almost every major Superman live-action adaptation, Lex Luthor is never far behind, being one of the Man of Steel's greatest villains for over 80 years. Wherever Krypton's Last Son appears, his extensive rogue's gallery follows him around. From major antagonists like Lex, Brainiac, Doomsday, Metallo, Parasite, and General Zod, Kal-El's mythology has some very dynamic and powerful foes he goes up against regularly. Even though Superman has to battle some incredibly dangerous threats, his biggest one may actually be the one without any superpowers, and that is Lex Luthor. As seen in the comics, Superman/Justice League cartoons, and every live-action Lex Luthor, the villain needs only his intelligence and sheer willpower to remain Superman's archenemy, posing a threat that Clark can't simply just punch his way through.
Throughout their history, Superman and Lex Luthor have had an ongoing rivalry that has survived any reboots — though it's uncertain...

Judy Collins’ iconic rendition of “Amazing Grace” was released on 1970’s Whales & Nightingales, an album that turns 50 in August. But Collins initially performed the hymn many years before that, during the Mississippi Summer Project in 1964 and at the height of the Vietnam War.
Now, the legendary singer has decided to rerelease the song, backed by a choir of singers across the globe. Listeners can also join the Global Virtual Choir to sing the song with Collins. All proceeds from the single will be donated to the World Health Organization Solidarity Response Fund.

Alexander and Ilya Salkind had sold Superman to the Golan-Globus Group/Cannon but wisely retained the rest of the family including Superboy. Thanks to Star Trek: The Next Generation pioneering first run syndication in 1987, the Salkinds realized the Teen of Steel would be perfect. Looking to produce this on the cheap, they set up shop in Florida, hired science fiction hack Fred Freiberger to produce and hired a slate of newcomers to fill the iconic roles of Clark Kent, Ma and Pa Kent, Lana Lang, Lex Luthor, et. al. The series debuted in 1988 with 25 episodes and was pretty laughable stuff. Freiberger was past his sell-by date and the Salkinds didn’t know how to handle the half-hour drama format.
Still, the ratings from the 95% of the country the series reached were strong enough to keep them going. However, changes needed to be made. Freiberger was shoved out and Salkind favorite...

Of course, we already know all of this, and the story has been re-told over and over again, sometimes in different ways throughout comics and on screen.
To celebrate the success of Smallville, which is coming to an end, and to also help keep anticipation for the up and coming Superman film, Man Of Steel, flying high, I'm going to look at the live-action Superman short films and shows,...

We know that we're only a few years away from seeing Zack Snyder's Superman: Man of Steel in all of its glory (we hope), but in the meantime, let's step back in time to check out Superman Classic. Animator Robb Pratt (Home on the Range, "The Replacements") really loves Superman and decided to direct his own self-animated short called Superman Classic. The footage is also set to music from the old Superman Saturday matinee serials and he even got John Newton, who played Superboy in the 1980s TV series, to voice Clark Kent. It's a quick watch and so fun to see, so check out Pratt's animated Superman short below. I owe thanks to Heat Vision and 24 Frames for both originally posting this video. Not only is it great to see homemade hand-drawn animation thriving like this in the digital age, but it's wonderful to see Pratt put his...

[1] Disney animator Robb Pratt [2] has created a short hand-drawn animated Superman fan film which features a 1950's-like sci-fi take with Superman battling a huge robot who is destroying Metropolis. Without credits, the short is under one-minute in length, but still a stunning achievement considering Pratt produced, directed and storyboarded the idea himself, and animated the film with two others. The short is based on classical elements from early in the character's history -- Pratt references the architectural work of Hugh Ferriss [3], and incorporates Mischa Bakaleinikoff’s music from the Superman live-action serial. Pratt worked on animated features like Tarzan, Hercules, Pocahontas, Fantasia 2000 and television series like Kick Buttowski, Kim Possible, Danny Phantom, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and The Replacements. Clark Kent/Superman is voiced by John Newton, who atarred as a young Clark Kent in the late 1980's television series The Adventures of Superboy. While Zack Snyder's Superman movie...

At a loss on what to review this week for the neo-noir retrospective, I solicited suggestions from Pajiba readers via my Facebook page. My colleague, Brian Prisco, suggested writer-director James Kerwin's Yesterday Was a Lie (2008). At the time, having not read his post on Netflix Watch Instantly until after finishing the film, I took the recommendation seriously. I looked up the film, saw it was classified as a hybrid of neo-noir and sci-fi with some positive reviews, and started getting my hopes up. You see, a decade ago, an indie neo-noir entitled Memento (2000) forced me on a path towards filmmaking and criticism, so I have a bit of a weak spot for them. Hoping that lightning would strike twice, I roped in a noir-loving friend (and fellow colleague in the Cinema and Media Studies Ph.D. program) to watch the film with me. After about twenty minutes, my potentially...

Writer/director James Kerwin creates a cinematic masterpiece with Yesterday was a Lie. The film follows Hoyle (played by Kipleigh Brown), a detective searching for a notebook that hasn’t been seen since World War II. The only clues she has are a lounge singer (Chase Masterson, who also produced this film) who speaks in riddles and a professor, John Dudas (John Newton), currently in hiding. As Hoyle pursues every lead, she uncovers philosophical truths, alternative realities and secrets that will change her life, and possibly the world, forever.
The making of this film can be described in one word: intentionality. Every decision is made to impact the audience’s experience, which is exactly how it should be. While I was originally put off by the fact that the film is in black and white, it actually adds to the noir aspects and reaffirms the point that Hoyle expects everything to be clear cut,...

The Messenger - DVD Review
Woody Harrelson is a human litmus test for what the ravages of war can do to an individual.
The Messenger is a movie that defies a conventional critique as the movie unspools in a manner that feels more real than it does made up, more visceral than it does imagined. While Kevin Bacon’s turn in Taking Chance was a heartfelt swan song to one human’s life who died for his country, The Messenger is grittier in its portrayal of a man tasked with delivering the news no family member wants to get about their fallen soldier.
It’s grittier and more immediate thanks to the liberating decisions made by first time director Oren Moverman. The...

Superman may have caught the world’s imagination and helped make comic books an industry, but I wasn’t All That fond of him. I began reading comics about 25 years after his 1938 introduction (my first comic was actually a Green Lantern-Flash team-up), but I soon became a Marvel guy (or should I say a Disney/Marvel guy?), and if I had to have a favorite DC hero, it would have to be Batman. So, it’s kind of ironic that I became friends with Superman’s legendary comics editor Julie Schwartz in the 1980s, and no less than three ex-starlog Managing Editors (my protégés Eddie Berganza, Mike McAvennie, Maureen McTigue) ended up at DC Comics editing the Superman titles in the ’90s. So I sorta feel like a step-uncle, twice removed, to the Man of Steel. I had no effect on him, but my posse did.

It was the Closing Night of The Beverly Hills Hi-Def Film Festival and producer/star Chase Masterson ( http://www.chasemasterson.com/Chase.html ) along with her fiance writer/director James Kerwin had invited me and played host to a number of my celeb friends. I met my buddy Valerie Perez there and we waited until the rest of the guests arrived from a pre-cocktail party just down the street. Joining me for the screening was Camden Toy, Lisa Cash, DeeDee Bigelow, Katie Lohmann, Jeff Rector and Joannie Laurer as well as cast and crew from the film, producer Sarah Nean Bruce, stars John Newton, Mik Scriba and Warren Davis. The film was followed by a Q&A and was well received by the audience. The film actually won the top prize of the festival, a well done film noir with a dash of Sci-Fi. The film is currently making the...
