Dragon Ball may not have gotten a worthy live-action adaptation yet, but one epic Jackie Chan fantasy movie comes close to qualifying as a spiritual adaptation of the renowned anime. Created by Akira Toriyama in 1984, Dragon Ball went on to become one of the biggest and most internationally acclaimed shounen anime franchises in the 90s and the aughts. Over the years, the franchise has only grown from strength to strength, paving the way for newer additions, including video games, manga spinoffs, and films.
In 2009, Dragon Ball was also loosely adapted as a live-action movie, Dragonball Evolution, which turned out to be a commercial and critical disaster. Owing to its inability to get anything right about the original anime and manga, the movie was panned by viewers and critics worldwide, forcing many to grow skeptical towards anime-to-cinema adaptations in general. However, before Dragonball Evolution presented one of the worst live-action takes on anime,...

Viewers can watch all of the Matrix movies online. It has been 20 years since The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions both hit theaters in 2003, and for most of that time, many were convinced another entry in the film franchise would never be made. Yet, the world of the Matrix was always there, waiting to be re-entered with The Matrix Resurrections in 2021.
As divisive as both prior Matrix sequels were, it's fair to say that the expectations and hype going into The Matrix Resurrections were still high, with those who loved the original movie hoping for the franchise to be redeemed. Back along for the ride were Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss, reprising Neo and Trinity, respectively, although Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is taking over as Morpheus. The original trilogy was already a fairly dense story undertaking, but fans who want to relive the entire quartet they can stream the Matrix movies at home,...

Thanks to The Wachowskis and Joel Silver, Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix saw the light of day after several roadblocks the movie endured. The sci-fi masterpiece went on to be a huge hit opening doors for more installments to the franchise.

The directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski went through several tests at Warner Brothers to convince the studio that they were capable of helming the $70 million project. They even took a different approach to presenting the screenplay. But then another set of challenges were lurking above the project, the constant rejections from the favored stars for the primary roles.

Classic 1970s television series Kung Fu is heading to the big screen, and Donnie Yen will star – more here.
A feature film based on the classic 1970s TV series Kung Fu has been in development for some time, and now it seems to be moving forward at Universal Pictures and 87North.
According to Deadline, John Wick director David Leitch will helm the film from a screenplay by Stephen Chin, with Ip Man star Donnie Yen set to play Kwai Chang Caine, a role first inhabited by David Carradine.
Martial arts icon Bruce Lee famously auditioned for the lead role in the original 1972 series, but lost out, of course, to Carradine. He played Caine, a spiritual monk who roams the Old West in the 1800s, wandering into confrontations and fist fights every week. The show proved popular, with phrases like ‘grasshopper’ making their way into the cultural lexicon.

The Matrix franchise revolutionized action movies with its groundbreaking technology and incorporation of kung fu and wuxia elements. Each film in the franchise excels in its action sequences, showcasing the talent of the Wachowskis and the action stars like Keanu Reeves. Memorable fight scenes like Neo vs. New Morpheus and Neo vs. Smith highlight the dynamic and cinematic nature of the franchise, while also exploring emotional depth.
The Matrix franchise is known as one of the most unique and influential action franchises of the 21st century. The Matrix introduced groundbreaking technology to achieve its signature style, and it's not by accident that so many action movies that followed borrowed heavily from its visuals and overall playbook. The ongoing Hollywood strikes are based on industry issues that stretch back a long time, with The Matrix Reloaded being a significant marker for one issue in particular. Hollywood's current union strikes first began on May 1, 2023, when the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) went on strike, with SAG-AFTRA following suit on July 14. The combined WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are the first instance of both unions being on strike simultaneously since 1960 and have effectively brought Hollywood film and TV productions to a halt over numerous disputes between the two unions and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
Among the most significant issues at hand are pay disputes for screenwriters and actors (notably residuals from streaming platforms) and the growing prevalence of A.I. as a tool of film production. While it might seem current issues WGA and SAG-AFTRA are striking over have only arisen in the past few years,...

Jackie Chan and Jet Li first appeared on-screen together in 2008's The Forbidden Kingdom, but there is on added bonus of it that has not gotten as much attention. In The Forbidden Kingdom, American teenaged kung fu movie fan Jason Tripitikas (Michael Angarano) finds himself warped back to ancient China after coming into possession of the golden staff of the Monkey King (Jet Li). With the help of Lu Yan (Jackie Chan), Silent Monk (also Jet Li), and Golden Sparrow (Liu Yifei), Jason embarks on a mission to free the Monkey King in order to topple the Jade Warlord (Collin Chou).

The Matrix franchise includes many characters with vast physical and cerebral powers. The Matrix took the world by storm in its 1999 theatrical debut, telling the story of Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves), a man who comes to learn that the world he lives in is nothing more than a simulated reality. Under the tutelage of his wise mentor Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), Neo also unlocks his power as "the One."
While the reception to The Matrix movies would be more mixed with its subsequent sequels, the landmark the series represents in both sci-fi and cinema overall remains historic. With so much of The Matrix franchise taking place inside a computer simulation, the Wachowskis were also able to showcase astonishing superhuman abilities on the part of both Neo and other characters. At the same time, the highly cerebral nature of the Matrix also includes characters with equally vast mental powers, as well. Here...

The Wachowski sisters-directed The Matrix is undisputedly the greatest movie in the franchise, but while the three sequels didn't live up to the original, they still had some great moments and interesting concepts. The original 1999 movie was a phenomenal success, as it featured groundbreaking action sequences, and it had a thought-provoking philosophical narrative that didn't talk down to its audience. However, the Wachowskis took those mind-warping ideas way too far in the sequels, and the original idea got lost in incoherent world-building and biblical analogies. The legacy sequel, The Matrix Resurrections, even dropped the tone of the series in favor of meta jokes.
Though it will always be compared negatively to The Matrix, The Matrix Resurrections is "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes, as is The Matrix Reloaded, and there's a lot to love about The Matrix Revolutions too. Though the digital effects might be inconsistent, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions...

It’s not often that a Sammo Hung movie gets overlooked, but in 1993 and with the New Wave of action cinema at it’s apex, “Blade of Fury” was one that in retrospect probably doesn’t get talked about as much as you would think. The Producer Lo Wei has less consistency and, let’s be honest, even his Bruce Lee pictures are not exactly the best directed. So, watching this is an experience as who will be the bigger influence on the product and stamp their identity upon it. Whilst it is certainly a flawed piece, it has enough moments within that make it worthy of rediscovery.

In many ways, The Matrix Resurrections feels like a remake: Thomas Anderson is trapped inside the simulation once again, waiting to be woken up in the real world. A new group of runners led by Morpheus are fighting the Agents and Machines that threaten Zion. Once again, Keanu Reeves’ Neo is faced with a choice: the red pill or the blue pill?
But as much as history seems to be repeating itself, Resurrections is also a continuation of the trilogy of films that concluded with Revolutions in 2003. Like many teen movies, “The Half of It” begins with an animated illustration of the origins of love from Plato’s Symposium, much like that other queer cinema classic, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” What’s that? The last Ya movie you watched on Netflix didn’t devote entire scenes to explaining the major tenets of existentialism through discussions on “No Exit”? From waxing poetic on Wim Wenders to cleverly chosen “Casablanca” references, “The Half of It” is a smart riff on “Cyrano de Bergerac” that celebrates friendship and self-acceptance over romance. It’s no wonder the film so — writer/director Alice Wu knows her stuff.

"You know what it's like to finally meet someone your age who gets you?" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for The Half of It, premiering direct to streaming at the start of May. Written and directed by Alice Wu, the film is "a heartfelt comedy-of-errors about searching for perfect love—and finding yourself in the process." A shy, introverted, Chinese-American, straight-a student finds herself helping the school jock woo the girl they both secretly love. In the process, each teaches the other about the nature of love as they find connection in the most unlikely of places. Leah Lewis stars as Ellie, joined by Daniel Diemer, Alexxis Lemire, Enrique Murciano, Wolfgang Novogratz, Catherine Curtin, also with Becky Ann Baker and Collin Chou. This sounds similar to Netflix's To All the Boys I've Loved Before, but the trailer plays differently, with the two main characters falling for the same person.

Collin Chou, best known for his role as Seraph from The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, will play Edwin Chiu in the Netflix film, The Half of It, written and directed by Alice Wu. The project, the follow up to Wu’s 2004 film, Saving Face, the pic navigates the struggles of an immigrant family against the backdrop of an Americana teenage angst romantic comedy. The plot is said to be a modern day Cyrano-meets-Pygmalion centered on a shy, introverted, Chinese-American, straight-a student who finds herself helping the school jock woo the girl they both secretly love. In the process, each teaches the other about the nature of love as they find a connection in the most unlikely of places. Chou’s Edwin Chiu is struggling immigrant father of Ellie Chu (Leah Lewis) who was a highly educated engineer whose promising career was derailed by his poor English skills when he moved to America.

Jet Li had the chance to join one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood circa the early 2000s when the Wachowski siblings offered him the part of Seraph in “The Matrix Reloaded.” The role had originally been written as a woman and offered to Michele Yeoh, but she turned it down because of scheduling conflicts. Li was the Wachowski’s first choice for Seraph after they switched the character’s gender, but Li also turned the role down. Over a decade later, Li has finally revealed the reason why he made the choice (via Abacus).
“It was a commercial struggle for me,” Li said, “I realized the Americans wanted me to film for three months but be with the crew for nine. And for six months, they wanted to record and copy all my moves into a digital library. By the end of the recording, the right to these moves would go to them.

Sammo Hung is regarded as one of the greatest Kung Fu performers of his generation. His high tempo, hard htting fight sequences have captured audiences all over the world. Future generations will look back and watch in amazement, witnessing one of the very best in world cinema.

When it comes to making features like this one, i love the idea of coming up with my own personal “100 Great Kung Fu Movies” of all time. It is tough choosing just 100 because you know there are many more great Kung Fu movies that are not on the list.
I have decided that to make the list, a movie must have a few hand to hand moments during fight scenes in the movies chosen. If for example its mainly sword play with one fight scene hand to hand it won’t make the list. Its old school “style” Kung Fu movies, not modern day settings.
I understand everyone will have their own personal favorites and some may not agree with my list and that’s fine because it’s nice to have different opinions on this genre which keeps it fresh and alive when having good debates.
Anyway, thank you...

What we lack more and more these days are epic fight scenes in the final part of kung Fu/Martial Art movies. We have seen less and less one on one fight scenes in the final battle over the past 15-20 years, which is a shame but we have seen recently a few flicks bringing that winning formula back.
I want to name a few of my favorite end fight scenes and please feel free to comment below, your favorite fight scenes and maybe they will be added to the future features.
1.Flash Point (2007)

The Divine Constabulary are back in the awkwardly titled “The Four 2”, with director Gordon Chan serving up more fantasy martial arts and mystery in the second part of a planned trilogy based on the novels by Wen Ruian. Like its predecessor, the film is a big budget blockbuster, shot in 3D and featuring an avalanche of special effects and computer enhanced action, continuing the story of Emotionless (Crystal Liu Yifei, “The Assassins”), Iron Hands (Collin Chou, “Special ID”), Life Snatcher (Ronald Cheng, “Vulgaria”) and Cold Blood (Deng Chao, “American Dreams in China”) as they come up against new and old foes and confront their own troubled pasts. Led by Master Zhuge (the legendary Anthony Wong), the Divine Constabulary are called in to investigate a series of murders and massacres, with links to the slaughter of Emotionless’ own family some 15 years back. Butting heads again with Department Six, they find their...

With weighty performances - by his standards at least - in the IP Man series, Donnie Yen has been taking himself more seriously of late. That's about to change with the upcoming release of box office juggernaut, The Monkey King, but 2013's Special ID is further proof that Donnie Yen still has a goofy side. If you're expecting the further adventures of crime blockbuster Spl, look away now. Special ID is, for the most part, lightweight escapism. Even if it does include the obligatory gang fights, gun battles and high speed car chases. However, unlike the aforementioned Spl, Donnie Yen kicks his way through Special ID with a wink and a smile. Like several of his contemporaries including Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen, Jet Li has been stuck in a rut of period pieces for the past few years. Sure he has glorified cameos in The Expendables films and he made a drama (the excellent Ocean Heaven) too, but for lead action roles? It’s been a string of historical epics since 2007. Happily, also like Chan (Police Story 2013) and Yen (Special ID), Li is finally returning with an action flick set in modern times. Badges of Fury teams him up with the equally awesome Collin Chou (Flashpoint) and Wu Jing (Spl) in a story about cops tasked with stopping a serial killer who’s been targeting a popular singer’s ex-boyfriends. The original Hong Kong trailer released over the summer and gave some of us reason to pause with its lack of action and focus on untranslatable humor. Now that the film is getting a release in the States...

With the sequel to Gordon Chan's martial arts fantasy The Four nearing release in Hong Kong the final poster for the film has arrived along with a series of striking - other than the font - illustrated character posters for all of the major players. One of which raises the question: What on earth is on Anthony Wong's arm? I haven't caught up with the original film yes so perhaps I'm missing something obvious but while the attachment has the look of an early machine gun the swirling patterns around it make me think ... vacuum cleaner? What on earth is that thing?Anthony Wong, Collin Chou, Chao Deng and Crystal Liu all return to reprise their roles from the first film. Check the new posters...

Spl aka Kill Zone. Flashpoint. Ip Man. Bodyguards & Assassins. Ip Man 2. Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen. Wu Xia aka Dragon. I’m not shy about my love for Donnie Yen and the blistering brutality he’s capable of dealing out through his lightning-quick beat downs, an especially impressive feat seeing as he’s only four feet tall, but I’ve also been vocal in my wish to see him give the period films a rest. He’s made some great ones, obviously, but there’s something about seeing his Mma-infused martial arts in action in a contemporary setting. The alley brawl from Spl? The final fight from Flashpoint? Happily the six year drought is over as the next several months will see Yen kicking ass in two modern day settings. Iceman hits next year and starts in the Ming Dynasty where Yen’s character is frozen only to be thawed out in modern...

Action director Donnie Yen is taking the fierce "Ultimate fighting" style as previously shown in the Hong Kong contemporary crime thriller Spl and Flashpoint to the next level in Clarence Fok's Special ID. For the action design, Yen continues to incorporate a variety of Mixed Martial Arts techniques, fusing not only stand-up striking but also Brazilian jiu-jitsu and grappling to choreograph the brutal street brawl while utilizing great fighting talents such as Ken Lo (Drunken Master II), Andy On (Unbeatable) and Collin Chou (Flashpoint). While the latest behind-the-scenes video feature an interview with the action hero himself without English subtitles, it does however showcase his action directing efforts and it looks pretty damn good.
