The Only Major Actors Still Alive From Adam West's Batman Series
Image
Adam West's classic 1960s series wasn't the first live-action "Batman" adaptation, but it is the one most people think of when remembering the old days of the character on the screen. In the decades since, shows like "Batman: The Animated Series" and the many critically acclaimed Batman films have built the Caped Crusader into arguably the most popular superhero in the U.S., if not worldwide. But when it comes to camp and silly charm, nothing beats the '60s series.

Sadly, most of the folks who made that show what it was are no longer with us, including Adam West himself, who passed away in 2017. Other prominent co-stars like Burgess Meredith (The Penguin), Cesar Romero (The Joker), Alan Napier (Alfred), Neil Hamilton (Commissioner Gordon), and Yvonne Craig (Batgirl) have also all passed on.

Only three major stars from the series are still with us today, carrying on the...

The Original Robin, 80, Reveals His Favorite Batman Villains
Image
Batman in 1966 was one of our first attempts at telling a Batman story. We already had a Supermanstory with George Reeves on screen, and slowly but surely, the superhero universe was growing. Part of that legacy is Burt Ward, who played Adam West's sidekick Robin on the series. And he loves to share with fans some of his favorite memories from filming the series. Ward, who was 21 years old when the show came out, shared with Remind Magazine all about his experience on the series.

When asked which of the villains was his favorite, Ward said that he didn't have a favorite. “I like all of them," he told the magazine. The long list of villains included multiple takes on Catwoman, including Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, and famously Eartha Kitt, who Ward said that “they all brought something different, and all did a great job.” But, according to Ward,...

Star Trek's William Shatner Played This Classic Batman Villain In A Forgotten Movie
Image
William Dozier's 1966 TV series "Batman" is a brilliant, sublime comedy series, and may easily be one of the best ever made. Its title hero (played by the genius Adam West) and his sidekick Robin (equal genius Burt Ward) delivered their lines in an ultra-earnest fashion that was clearly satire, but that never once winked or hinted to the audience that they were in on the joke. They were square-jawed stalwarts who stood for righteousness in the face of cartoon anarchists who represented counterculture, sexuality, or just good old-fashioned prankstership. The world of Batman was broad and ridiculous, and "Batman" presented a TV series that somehow both vaunted and ridiculed that universe.

The villains on Dozier's show were typically played by well-regarded actors who took the opportunity to cut loose a little, or were hard-working professionals who loved sinking their teeth into goofy-ass comedic roles. The Joker was played...

Steven Spielberg’s Genius Move Locked Robin Williams For Just a 1995 Cameo Role
Image
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar is a 1995 road comedy-drama film that starred Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo.

The film also featured a small cameo from iconic actor Robin Williams, in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment. It was all thanks to Steven Spielberg, who made a genius move to make Williams agree to the role. The premise of the movie was about three professional drag queens who win a trip to Hollywood to take part in a bigger Drag Queen of America pageant.

How did Steven Spielberg convince Robin Williams to do a cameo?

Three professional drag queens cash in their plane tickets given by their friend John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, and use the money to buy a yellow convertible 1967 Cadillac DeVille.

A Classic Batman Villain Starred In One Of The Twilight Zone's Earliest And Best Episodes
Image
Before everyone started talking about glitches in the Matrix to describe spooky goings-on, anything weird or potentially inexplicable was like entering "The Twilight Zone." Some old timers still use this comparison, possibly humming an annoying rendition of the theme tune for extra effect. You can't blame them, really, because few TV shows have created a cultural footprint the size of Rod Serling's visionary series. Three revivals, a patchy anthology film, and a range of other media have kept the show firmly in the public consciousness, but none have quite matched the quality of the original hosted by Serling himself. With Serling's assured presence and teleplays from some of the best writers of sci-fi and speculative fiction of the day, "The Twilight Zone" was packed with iconic episodes.

"Twilight Zone: The Movie" opened with two guys (played by Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks) chatting about their favorite episodes, and they...

More when I can write about it.” Based on the timing of the note, David passed away on Sunday, May 23.

David penned more than 75 Star Trek adventures over the years. His books included titles in The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, New Frontier, Starfleet Academy, and Mirror Universe series, including Imzadi, a Tng novel widely considered one of the best, if not the best, of any Star Trek tales ever told, and several Tng books focused on Q, the audionovel versions of which Q actor John de Lancie provided the narrations. The Real-Life Reason Behind The Penguin's Squawks In The 1960s Batman Series
Image
The 1960s "Batman" television series can be pretty zany, but for many of the actors who appeared on the show it was no laughing matter. Incredibly talented character actors like Frank Gorshin, Cesar Romero, Eartha Kitt, and Julie Newmar all brought intensity to their roles as various members of the caped crusader's rogues gallery, taking their performances deadly serious despite the show's ridiculous levels of camp. Among the great "Batman" television villains is Burgess Meredith as The Penguin, the arctic bird-based baddie with designs on taking over Gotham through political avenues. Meredith was no stranger to really giving a role his all, even allowing himself to be lit on fire for an episode of "The Twilight Zone," and he approached the Penguin with just as much pride in his work.

In an interview with James H. Burns that was reprinted in Joel Eisner's "Batman" explainer, "The Official Batman Batbook...

Madonna Regrets Passing On An Iconic Batman Role
Image
During her heyday as one of the biggest musical icons in the world, Madonna seemingly had it all. In the 21st century, Madonna has become something of a legacy act, with bigger names like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift taking over as female pop icons. In the mid-1980s and early 1990s, however, Madonna had the world gripped by her every move. And like Beyoncé and Swift, she confidently jumped from one medium to another, appearing in films like "Desperately Seeking Susan" and "Dick Tracy," the latter of which paired her opposite Hollywood legend Warren Beatty as a riff on the classic femme fatale archetype in Beatty's comic strip adaptation.

That 1990 film from Touchstone Pictures is worth keeping in mind for this story for a couple of reasons. While Dick Tracy was not a character or intellectual property that had been captivating audiences in the previous decade, it was chosen as...

10 Best Western Episodes of The Twilight Zone, Ranked
Image
Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone is one of television's evergreens, as pertinent today as it was when it premiered in 1959. Pop culture has changed a great deal since then, and the show cannot help but remain a product of its time as well as a classic that never gets old. Among its numerous fascinating qualities, The Twilight Zone provides a look at what people were watching in the early 1960s, which many of its episodes reflected as part of their commentary.

That includes a thick helping of Westerns, which were staggeringly popular at the time, and which dominated network television when The Twilight Zone originally aired. Accordingly, a number of episodes from the anthology series use Westerns as part of their storytelling. Most of them take on the aspects of a campfire ghost story, which lends itself well to tales of the Old West. A list of the 10 best Western episodes follows,...

Why Adam West's Batman Show Was Canceled After Three Seasons
Image
Let it be stated up front: William Dozier's 1966 TV series "Batman" is not just the finest iteration of Bob Kane's and Bill Finger's superhero character, but it may be one of the best TV shows of all time. Using the outlandish trappings of superhero comics, "Batman" created nothing less than the wildest, most hilarious parody of conservative values in a generation. Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) were heroic, yes, but they were also unbearably square, drinking milk, going birdwatching, and supporting their local police to an unhealthy degree. We admired them and laughed at them at the same time. The show's many villains were free agents, whose villainy offered a refreshing element of chaos to the world. They were sexual, exciting, and had fun.

All of this was wrapped in a stylized, mannered, near-cartoon universe. Reality was tilted. The show purported to support heroism, but somehow,...

Alan Dean Foster and a legendary novelist’s life in film
Image
Author Alan Dean Foster talks to us about his connections to some of the most important sci-fi films of all time, including Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien and more.

With a career spanning over five decades, dozens of novels and many more short stories, Alan Dean Foster is one of the most prolific genre writers currently working. And whether he’s writing sci-fi or fantasy, novelisations of major films or personal storytelling, Foster’s work has always had a touch of the cinematic about it.

In one of his earliest published stories, a 1971 short called Why Johnny Can’t Speed, Foster imagines a near future in which drivers rumble onto freeways with guns strapped to their vehicles. Published two years before Jg Ballard’s own auto-fetish dystopia, Crash (1973), or in cinema, the petrol-crazed nightmares of Death Race 2000 (1975) or Mad Max (1979), its descriptions of mayhem on America’s roads have...

Warner Bros. has recently shut down 3 of its major studios, including Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego. It has also canned the upcoming Wonder Woman game that was already in development.

3 of our favorite "I'm a doctor, not a...." quotes from our favorite grumpy Star Trek physician
Image
One Star Trek myth is not at all true, and another is as true as ever. Captain Kirk never actually uttered a phrase widely considered to be part and parcel of Star Trek lore: “Beam me up, Scotty.” However, Dr. McCoy did declare, “I’m a doctor, not a…” on multiple occasions. And by Dr. McCoy, we mean both the Og ship’s medic, DeForest Kelley, and the Kelvin timeline’s iteration, Karl Urban.

Here are three of our favorite instances of McCoy barking “I’m a doctor, not a…” Please note that we are not including variations of the line from The Original Series, like “What am I, a doctor or a moon shuttle conductor?” (from “The Corbomite Maneuver”) or “I’m not a magician, Spock, just an old country doctor” (from “The Deadly Years”).

McCoy, in “The Devil in the Dark,” expressed exasperation at being ordered to “Help it.

The Best Joker Cartoon Appearances In Batman, Ranked
Image
The Joker is one of comics’ most popular villains, appearing in countless Batman pieces of media across mediums. Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime has been blessed with diverse and riveting portrayals by talented actors in both film and television, but he also has a long and storied history in animation.

Many animated portrayals of Batman's greatest nemesis have been just as iconic as their film counterparts, if not more so. Unfortunately, not every animated Joker has lived up to the same standard. Sometimes an animated Joker is only as good or bad as the Batman show he is in. Other times, a cartoon Joker stands out as the best, or worst, member of his cast.

Update: 2025/02/08 19:20 Est By Brian Cronin

Clint Eastwood Could Have Played A Huge Batman Villain In A Canceled Episode
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Batman has one of the most enviable ensembles of recurring villains in superhero comics. Look back at the 1960s "Batman" TV series starring Adam West, though, and not a lot of those now familiar evildoers are there.

Oh, for sure, the Joker (Cesar Romero), the Riddler, Catwoman, and the Penguin (Burgess Meredith) all frequently guest star. It's because of the West series that this crew was long considered the Big Four of Batman villains; it's no coincidence that they were also the first four villains to star in the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher-directed "Batman" films.

Then you had some other comic villains, like Mr. Freeze and the Mad Hatter, put in a few appearances too. But many episodes of "Batman" instead had West's Caped Crusader and Robin (Burt Ward) face villains created specifically for the show, including wannabe pharoah...

Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes Drag Queen Movie Is A Hit On Streaming
Image
An iconic cult classic from 1995 has hit Tubi and it's already a hit for the streaming service. But how can anyone be surprised, really? The film, To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar, has everything: Patrick Swayze, John Leguizamo, and Wesley Snipes playing drag queens in a small town after a road trip goes awry. Stockard Channing and Blythe Danner playing fabulously headstrong women, and so much more.

Of course, the film wasn't always a hit, is far-from-perfect in its depictions, and has been a divisive one for a long time. With a 48% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes but a Tomatometer audience score of 72% there are plenty of aspects of the movie worth dissecting and revisiting. Particularly given our current political climate and its outward hostility towards drag queens, transgender people, and the Lgbtqia+ community as a whole.

"The plot seems convinced they dress as women primarily to help other people solve their problems,...

Wesley Snipes Signs With Independent Artist Group (Exclusive)
Image
Wesley Snipes, the actor perhaps most widely known for starring as vampire hunter Blade, is ready to unsheath a new chapter in his Hollywood career, signing with Independent Artist Group for representation.

The actor and martial artist, who reprised his Blade role to the delight of fans in this summer’s $1.3 billion-grossing Deadpool & Wolverine, has an acting career that spans over three decades and reaches across genres. The actor gained notices for his 1990s work in dramas such as Jungle Fever, his influential crime movie New Jack City, comedic fare such as To Wong Fu, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, and action flicks Demolition Man and Passenger 57.

Blade seemed like an innocuous action thriller when it was released in 1998 but the movie, exuding tough attitude and replete with one-liners, launched a trilogy that has gained in stature and influence since the final installment came out in 2004. When Snipes...

Batman: The amazing animated appearances of Adam West
Image
Adam West has had countless adventures as Batman in live action. He portrayed the Caped Crusader in the legendary ABC TV series, which ran for three seasons from 1966 to 1968, and its live-action spinoff movie. In addition to this spectacular run as one of the most fun portrayals of Batman, he had a wonderful voice acting career. Many may remember him for his voice roles on The Fairly Odd Parents or Family Guy, but his career with DC was a huge part of his animated exploits.

West directly continued his time as Batman in The New Adventures of Batman (1977) all the way through to 1985's Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians. He also played Batman on Robot Chicken's third DC special, with an appearance from Burt Ward as well.

His other TV appearances are nothing short of fantastic. Critically-acclaimed '90s show Batman: The Animated Series featured him in the fan favorite episode,...

Every Catwoman Costume From DC Movies & TV Shows, Ranked
Image
Catwoman's costumes in live-action have varied widely, from practical jumpsuits to sexy leather bikinis. Some versions, like Halle Berry's in 2004, missed the mark with overly sexual and impractical designs. Others, like Michelle Pfeiffer's in 1992's Batman Returns, struck a balance between danger and seduction.

Catwoman has been a staple fixture of DC movies and TV shows for some time now, with a variety of feline costumes ranging from abysmally bad to stunningly well-made. Aside from Batman himself, Catwoman might be the single most recurring Gotham-based character to feature in live-action DC media. With every new TV or cinematic version of Catwoman comes a brand-new costume that has to stack up against a long line of competitors, with some nailing the look better than others.

In the comics, Catwoman typically wears a jumpsuit of some kind, usually paired with a cat cowl or mask not unlike Batman's own. While...

Batgirl, Catwoman & Riddler Were All In 1960s Star Trek
Image
Actors from 1960s Batman crossed over into Star Trek. Batman was known for its ridiculous gadgets and comic book elements, contrasting with Star Trek's more serious tone. Actors like Yvonne Craig, Julie Newmar, and Frank Gorshin left memorable marks on both iconic shows.

The actors who portrayed Batgirl, Catwoman, and the Riddler in the 1960s Batman television series also appeared in Star Trek: The Original Series. Batman and Tos both began in 1966 and appealed to similar audiences, so it's not surprising that several actors popped up on these two shows. With its campy, humorous tone, the 1960s Batman was very different from most modern adaptations featuring the Caped Crusader. As Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) defended Gotham City, they used ridiculously named gadgets to take on villains, and comic book words like "Pow!" and "Bam!" popped up on the screen during fight scenes.

But if you’re looking for something even more explosive than Homelander and Roger Federer,...

Every Season Of The Classic Twilight Zone Series Ranked
Image
Every anthology TV show has high points and low points, and that includes the best one ever made. Rod Serling's seminal 1959 series "The Twilight Zone" broke new ground in small screen storytelling week after week, delivering sci-fi tinged homilies about the human condition. The show looked to the future frequently and to the past more often than you might remember, but its best stories still feel timeless in their acute understanding of fear, loneliness, love, hatred, and mortality. While most shows have a small handful of standout episodes, "The Twilight Zone" has dozens.

And yet, it's not perfect. Any total watchthrough of the series reveals a few distinct flaws, including repetitive plot points and the show's profound inability to pull off more humorous outings. "The Twilight Zone" is a monument in television history, one that's as daring and imaginative as the medium has ever been, but some seasons of...

Image
John Leguizamo is quite a well-known name in Hollywood. He has established himself as a true talent, having starred in projects of all genres. From working in John Wick to Ice Age, and even The Menu, he has definitely explored the range that the film industry has to offer. However, every actor must start somewhere.

John Leguizamo in John Wick [Credit: Lionsgate]Although he first gained attention for his work as a standup comedian as well as his work in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! “It could’ve ruined their careers”: John Leguizamo Calls Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze Too Brave to Accept 1 Movie That Was Certain Doom for Them
Image
Pure intentions never come a long way when it comes to achieving stardom in Hollywood. John Wick star John Leguizamo seems to understand that but while the actor may hold a cynical view of the industry due to time spent behind the curtains, there exist some things (perhaps a movie role or odd jobs to pay oneʼs way through surviving as a struggling artist) that he imagines as simply being too awkward to be uttered in public.

John Leguizamo in To Wong Foo [Credit: Amblin/Universal Pictures]Now, sufficient time has passed in the life and career of Leguizamo to serve as a cushion for his criticism, whenever or wherever it may apply. Such a protective cushion frequently comes into use when the actor brings up his fellow co-stars in the industry and serves to spill some tea about their roles that some still view as divisive beyond reproach.

Image
John Leguizamo is by far one of the most recognizable Latino names in Hollywood, and the actor frequently comments and speaks up when he sees injustice being done, not only to him but to his co-stars and actors as well. Especially when it comes to the portrayal of Latinos in Hollywood and the issues of ethnic representation.

But, before he was known for that, Leguizamo was known for taking part in some of the biggest franchises in the industry. He gained widespread recognition for his roles in films such as ‘Carlito’s Way,’ ‘To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! John Leguizamo stands out as one of Hollywood’s most prominent Latino figures, known not only for his acting prowess but also for his vocal advocacy against injustices faced by himself, his peers, and the broader Latino community in the industry. He’s been a staunch critic of the underrepresentation of Latinos in Hollywood and is unafraid to speak out on the issue.

Image
John Leguizamo, Patrick Swayze, and Wesley Snipes portrayed three drag queens in the film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everthing! Julie Newmar. The road movie follows the three New York City drag queens as they embark on a journey to Los Angeles to compete in the Miss Drag Queen of America Pageant. While all three lead actors gave praiseworthy performances, Leguizamo found the late Swayze difficult to work with during the film.

John Leguizamo Says Patrick Swayze Was ‘Difficult,’ ‘Neurotic’ and ‘Maybe a Tiny Bit Insecure’ on ‘To Wong Foo’ Set: He’d Get ‘Mad and Upset’ Over Improv
Image
John Leguizamo said during an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show that it was “difficult” working with Patrick Swayze on their 1995 movie “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.” The cult classic starred Leguizamo, Swayze and Wesley Snipes as three drag queens whose road trip across America to attend a competition in Hollywood is upended when their car breaks down.

“Rest in peace, I love him. He was just neurotic and I’m not … you know, I’m neurotic too but, I don’t know. He was just … it was difficult working with him,” Leguizamo said of Swayze. “Just neurotic, I think maybe a tiny bit insecure. And then Wesley and I, we vibed because we’re people of color and we got each other. And I’m also an improviser, and [Patrick] didn’t like that.”

John Leguizamo Says Patrick Swayze Was 'Neurotic' Filming To Wong Foo: 'It Was Difficult Working With Him'
Image
John Leguizamo called Patrick Swayze "neurotic" while filming To Wong Foo. The movie, ahead of its time, had a positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community, inspiring many to come out. Despite mixed critical reviews, the film was praised by audiences for its story and performances, becoming a cult classic.

Starring with Patrick Swayze in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar was difficult according to John Leguizamo. The comedy road movie, which also starred Wesley Snipes, was a moderate success at the box office on its release, and the story of drag queens had quite an impact on the gay community at the time of its release in 1995. However, in a recent interview on SiriusXMs Andy Cohen Live, Leguizamo opened up about how neurotic Swayze was when it came to filming the movie and how he hated Leguizamos frequent ad-libbing.

One Star Trek: The Original Series Episode Had The Cast Swimming In Their Sweat
Image
Vasquez Rocks is located in the northern part of Los Angeles County about 25 minutes away from Downtown L.A. via the 14 freeway. It's close enough to the city to be easily accessed by car, but far away enough to look like a remote wilderness. The park's celebrated rock formations look eerie, ancient, and alien from certain angles, making it a popular place for film and TV productions going back to the 1930s.

Trekkies likely recognize Vasquez Rocks as an oft-reused filming location, serving as a variety of alien worlds for various "Star Trek" projects. The park was featured in the "Original Series" episodes "Shore Leave", "Arena", "The Alternative Factor", and "Friday's Child". Later, Vasquez Rocks would serve as Vulcan "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" and "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," released in 1983 and 1984 respectively.

Fans of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" would recognize Vasquez Rocks from the episode "Who Watches the Watchers?...

Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman Deserves Our Respect
Image
Batman’s enemy-turned-lover, Catwoman, is one of the most iconic characters in the DC Comics pantheon, almost equal in popularity to the Caped Crusader himself. Also known as Selina Kyle, the fixture to the Batman mythos has been adapted into various other forms of media. Julie Newmar, Lee Meriweather, and Earth Kitt’s heightened performances in the role fit well within the equally campy 1960s Batman television series and its related film, while Zoë Kravitz and especially Michelle Pfeiffer were widely praised for their darker interpretations of the character in the films The Batman and Batman Returns. But another cinematic Catwoman doesn’t always get the credit she deserves. Anne Hathaway played Selina in The Dark Knight Rises, the final film in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and her depiction is an unsung highlight of the already underrated film.

‘Slay’ Review (Tubi Original)

Stars: Trinity The Tuck, Heidi N Closet, Crystal Methyd, Cara Melle, Neil Sandilands, Donia Kash, Gabriel Harry Meltz, Daniel Janks, Gustav Rossouw | Written and Directed by Jem Garrard

At a time when hate and intolerance towards the LGBTQ+ community is on the rise, I wanted to write a horror comedy with heart that showcased drag queens and queers as the heroes. Drag queens have always been a symbol of resistance and resilience, so seeing them kick-ass against a bunch of blood-sucking vampires felt like a comical, yet pointed allegory.

– Jem Garrard, writer/director, Slay

Slay is what you might get if you mixed From Dusk Till Dawn with To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Only, instead of putting Hollywood actors in drag, cast lead roles with contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

What Happened To The Cast Of Road House 1989 After The Movie
Image
After Road House in 1989, Patrick Swayze continued acting in hits like Ghost, Point Break, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, and Donnie Darko, before passing away in 2009. Sam Elliott maintained a successful acting career after Road House, starring in popular shows like The Ranch and the Yellowstone prequel, 1883. He became the only Oscar-nominated star from Road House when he received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance in the 2018 A Star Is Born remake. In addition to Swayze, several other Road House stars have since passed, including Ben Gazzara, Red West, Jeff Healey, and Sunshine Parker.

After starring in the original Road House movie in 1989, most of the cast continued acting for many years. 1989's Road House stars 36-year-old Patrick Swayze as Dalton, a tough bouncer who makes some enemies while trying to keep the peace at a rowdy bar in Missouri called the Double Deuce. The...

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm Gets What Makes the Joker So Scary
Image
At the end of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s 1988 one-shot Batman: The Killing Joke, the Joker lays out his worldview in plain terms. After testing his theory that “one bad day” could make even the most decent person into a madman like himself, the Joker tells his nemesis, “It’s all a joke! Everything anybody ever valued or struggled for… it’s all a monstrous, demented gag!”

Even more than the grisly sights of The Killing Joke—in which the Clown Prince of Crime sets out to prove his theory by brutalizing Batgirl Barbara Gordon and tormenting her father Commissioner Gordon—that line has set the course of Joker stories of the past several decades. Fans and creators alike try to push the Joker to edgier extremes, forgetting how Batman answers when his nemesis asks why he isn’t laughing. “Because I’ve heard it before,” he responds. “And...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From The Monkees
Image
For my money, the Monkees are way, way more interesting than the Beatles.

According to Andrew Sandoval's thorough and invaluable book "The Monkees: The Day-By-Day Story of the '60s TV Pop Sensation," an ad was put in Variety and the Hollywood Reporter on September 8, 1965, looking for "four insane boys" to be the members of a new pre-fabricated pop band. The band would also star in a TV series -- deliberately meant to evoke Richard Lester's 1964 Beatles film "A Hard Day's Night" -- that would use their real names, but present their lives as a fictional merry-go-round of kooky shenanigans.

The producers zeroed in on former child actor Micky Dolenz, a friend of musician Stephen Stills named Peter Tork, a British, boyish heartthrob named Davy Jones, and heir to the Liquid Paper fortune, Mike Nesmith. Their TV series debuted on September 12, 1966, the week after "Star Trek" debuted, and...

Stunning Catwoman Cosplay Beautifully Recaptures Batman Returns' Selina Kyle
Image
Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman from Batman Returns remains a beloved and iconic portrayal of the character. Pfeiffer's Catwoman was a pivotal reinvention of the character in live-action, paving the way for future interpretations. Despite only appearing in one film, Pfeiffer's Catwoman continues to be highly recognized and appreciated in pop culture today.

Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman from Tim Burton's Batman Returns comes to life through an incredible DC cosplayer. Batman and his mythology have been reimagined numerous times for the big and small screens over the last few decades, allowing multiple actors to portray the Dark Knight, his supporting characters, and villains. One of the most iconic Batman movie villains is Michelle's Pfeiffer's Catwoman, though Selina Kyle has appeared in multiple Batman movies and allowed the character to shine outside the comics.

Why Talia al Ghul Needs To Be the Dcu Batman's Love Interest
Image
James Gunn's Dcu is on the horizon, which means more of Batman's love interests have an opportunity to be explored. With Catwoman being a household name, exploring a different love interest for Bruce Wayne in the Dcu could lead to interesting new storylines. One particular Batman love interest has had limited appearances on the big screen, and it's time for her to be properly developed as a complex character and adversary.

With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom ushering in the close of the Dceu and the mega-franchise preparing for yet another reboot, it gives a number of previously neglected characters a chance to shine at last. As a rule, DC tends to stick to the most prominent and well-established members of its pantheon, which means multiple incarnations of big players like Batman and Superman, and comparatively few versions of anyone else. The Caped Crusader, in particular, serves as something of a franchise security blanket,...
