A new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) recently made its way out into the world (JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols gave it a 4/10 “dumpster fire” review that can be read at This Link). Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played heroine Julie James in the first two films, and Freddie Prinze Jr., who was Julie’s boyfriend Ray Bronson in those films, reprise their roles – and they’re facing off with a new “Fisherman” killer that’s stalking a whole new cast. There was a lot of chatter and excitement about Hewitt reprising the role of Julie James – but during an interview with Tommy Didario, she revealed that she didn’t end up doing everything the filmmakers had in mind for her, as there were chase and fight scenes that went unfilmed!

I Know What You Did Last Summer Worldwide Box Office: Update After 4 Days ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
I Know What You Did Last Summer had an underwhelming start this weekend, its opening weekend. But it has achieved an interesting feat regarding its return on investment: It has earned more than half of its breakeven number worldwide in just four days. Keep scrolling for the deets.
The film debuted at #3 in the domestic box office chart, and it’s not its fault as Hollywood tentpole releases are hogging all the limelight. It is a reboot of the Og classic, which was released in 1997. The film maintains a stronghold at the 3rd rank and is expected to continue until Thursday. On Friday, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released, pushing it further down in the list. The Big 3 – Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will dominate the box office.

So we’re going to have to dig into Spoiler territory before we get to her defense.

The latest legacy sequel to a ‘90s slasher classic may hit many familiar notes, but its final act sets up some truly ambitious surprises that will shock franchise fans
Warning: This feature has Heavy Spoilers for 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.
It’s been 27 years since an I Know What You Did Last Summer film was in theaters. The horror landscape has significantly evolved since the late ‘90s, yet there’s been more and more of a push to return to the nostalgic creature comforts of the past. Legacy sequels have become the new normal and the past decade has featured follow-ups to Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Candyman, and even The Exorcist. This practice has become increasingly normalized to the point that a legacy sequel to 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer makes perfect sense, especially during a time where Scream’s own...

One Tree Hillstar Austin Nichols says that the upcoming reboot is "in a really good place."
Per TV Insider, Nichols recently responded to questions regarding the reboot, noting that while he doesn't "have all the answers," he does know that the creators have "been working on it for a long time."
Nichols explained, "They made a deal with Netflix, and they’re working on the scripts. I think Netflix has to approve some scripts before they give it a green light. I know there's been some notes going back and forth, so it's in a really good place. It’s in a healthy place. So, hopefully we get some good news shortly and we make some more One Tree Hill."
Nichols portrayed Julian Baker on One Tree Hill beginning with the series' sixth season back in 2008. Created by showrunner Mark Schwahn, One Tree Hill largely followed the lives of half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott,...

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cline opened up about the fact that test audiences were overtly upset by the death of her character, Danica, in the newly-released I Know What You Did Last Summer threequel. According to Cline, she "only got the news that I was coming back about two-and-a-half weeks ago," leading to a round of reshoots in which it is shown that Danica did indeed survive her ordeal with the latest murderous Fisherman.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers from “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” now in theaters.
Sarah Michelle Gellar never thought there would be an “I Know What You Did Last Summer” movie released in 2025.
“I don’t think I had that one pegged,” Gellar told me Thursday at the taping of the Las Culturistas Culture Awards in Los Angeles.
The new movie, directed and co-written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, follows a group of former high school friends being targeted by a serial killer a year after they were involved in a deadly car accident.
“Jenn Robinson brought it up to me like three or four years ago – this has been a long process – I thought, ‘It’s such a good idea, but you don’t know. Do people still love the movie? Do people still watch the movie?’” Gellar said.

In August 2024, it was first announced that, after twelve long years, a One Tree Hill reboot was officially in development, shaping up to be a sequel to the much-loved CW series. The upcoming revival of the 2000s teen drama was set to be led by the trio of Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush, and Danneel Ackles, with each also reprising their roles from the original series. With Netflix the scheduled home for the reboot, and the talented Becky Hartman-Edwards of Firefly fame set to write, it's safe to say that fans are excited that their favorite comfort series is in safe hands.
However, little has since been discussed about the reboot, with the most recent development coming from a fairly vague update via Jensen Ackles, who said in an interview with Collider's Tania Hussain, "Danneel [Ackles] and Sophia [Bush] and Hilarie [Burton Morgan] are moving quickly. The anticipated legacy sequel to 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer finally arrives in theaters on July 18, and the reviews are trickling in. So was the follow-up feature worth the wait? On Rotten Tomatoes, 2025's I Know What You Did Last Summercurrently holds a 46% rating from 46 reviews, indicating that it is, at best, a mixed bag. The new slasher stars Madelyn Cline as Danica Richards, Chase Sui Wonders as Ava Brucks, and Jonah Hauer-King as Milo Griffin, among others, and welcomes back Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to reprise their roles.
The original I Know What You Did Last Summer also didn't impress critics. While it was a commercial success that topped the US box office for three consecutive weeks, it holds just a 45% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Over time, however, it has become a cult classic.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, director of the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, is revealing the reason Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez were cut from the film.
Back in November 2024, Deadline exclusively reported that the Summer I Turned Pretty star and the Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story actor had joined the cast of the slasher sequel.
However, when viewers see the film on the big screen, neither Tung nor Chavez will appear in the movie, despite having filmed scenes.
“In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie,'” Robinson said in an interview with People. “It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic.

More than a decade later, Austin Nichols is ready to get back to his roots on the pending One Tree Hill continuation at Netflix.
At Monday’s world premiere of I Know What You Did Last Summer, in which he plays Pastor Judah, the actor revealed whether he’d reprise his role as filmmaker Julian Baker in the revival of the WB/CW drama, which originally ran for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012.
“I would absolutely love to,” he told Deadline. “I spent a lot of years doing that show and fell in love with Wilmington, North Carolina, and made a lot of great friends there. We had a lot of fun. And ultimately, when something still has this kind of excitement around it this many years later, you kinda go, ‘Oh my god! Yeah, why not make more of it? People still watch it and love it.’
“So, I think it could be great.

While Superman will quite easily remain at #1 heading into its second weekend in theaters, the Dcu movie is set to face competition from new releases, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs.
All three movies will attract vastly different audiences, and Jurassic World Rebirth should continue to pose a problem for all of the above. Still, helping Superman is the largely negative critical reception to I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs.
Despite glowing social media reactions, the horror reboot has arrived on Rotten Tomatoes with a "Rotten" 46% score. The reviews are all over the place; Deadline, for example, writes, "A vapid, utterly hollow husk of revival. And when it isn’t copy-pasting lines straight out of Hewitt’s mouth it resorts to an almost impressively high level of pandering to its Gen Z audience."

How do you make a legacy sequel when you’re unsure what your legacy even is? That’s the question plaguing I Know What You Did Last Summer, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s update of the 1997 slasher of the same name. Stuffed to the idiomatic gills with thudding callbacks, hoary one-liners, and phoned-in cameos, the film feels like the predictable endpoint of a trend toward empty nostalgia that’s run through all the big fish in horror cinema and is now coming to swallow up whatever might be left behind.
After the events of the summer that still haunt Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.), the North Carolina fishing village of Southport suffered an economic downturn, giving land developer Grant Spencer (Billy Campell) an opportunity to turn it into the “Hamptons of the South.” Among Southport’s new generation of rich young people is Ava...

“So here we are, it’s 1997 all over again,” one of the characters says tellingly in I Know What You Did Last Summer. That line, of course, is not from the original film in the series but rather its same-titled “legacy sequel,” which, if you’re not familiar with Hollywood parlance, basically means “Let’s see if we can squeeze more dollars out of this sucker.” Slavishly reminiscent of its predecessors, the film also features so many Easter eggs that it mainly serves as canned nostalgia.
Those throwbacks, ironically, are the most fun aspect of this new installment, which is unlikely to garner the same sort of cult following as the 1997 original. The concept remains the same, with a group of extremely good-looking young people (here in their mid-20s rather than teen years) covering up a violent death for which they were responsible. “Nostalgia is overrated,” proclaims Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt). She’s just been through a convoluted domino of events and been thrust back into the town of Southport, which is laughably not anything like the North Carolina it is supposed to take place in. It’s an odd line; we’ve just watched 100 minutes of nostalgia-ridden dialogue. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s legacy sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer is nothing if not packed with direct references to its 1997 origin film, a vapid, utterly hollow husk of revival. And when it isn’t copy-pasting lines straight out of Hewitt’s mouth it resorts to an almost impressively high level of pandering to its Gen Z audience.

Netflix’s hit romantic drama Virgin River is adding a dash of One Tree Hill nostalgia to its already stacked cast. Austin Nichols, popular for playing charming producer Julian Baker on the CW teen drama series, is confirmed to be joining Virgin River for its highly anticipated seventh season. While Netflix hasn’t released an official announcement, Nichols spilled the beans via a cheeky Instagram caption.
“Hey guys, I just landed in Virgin Riv… I mean, Vancouver. I’m starting a new job and I can’t wait for you guys to see it,” Nichols teased on social media, dropping a not-so-subtle nod to the show’s filming location. The 2025 reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” promises to be a bloody good time as a hook-wielding killer wearing a fisherman’s slicker terrorizes a new class of coeds from Southport. But a couple of characters got slashed from the film altogether.
Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s roles didn’t make the final cut, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson confirmed at the film’s L.A. premiere.
“It happens. You shoot something and, when you watch the scene, it doesn’t fit in the film,” Robinson told Variety after eagle-eyed fans noticed the actors were missing from marketing materials.
Tung and Chavez’s scene was intended to be the opening scene, and their performance was “fantastic,” Robinson said, but ultimately, “it didn’t work within the film that we were creating. And when you’re trying to make something that’s bold,...

Ever since the news of the One Tree Hill reboot series that's in development at Netflix leaked late last year, it's all fans have been wondering about. There have been very few updates about the in-the-works revival that's coming from Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton-Morgan. While the two are set to reprise their roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, not much else is known.
Earlier this year, Burton-Morgan shared that there were "lots of good things cooking" with the One Tree Hill reboot series, but the sequel hasn't added any additional cast members or teased exactly what story the comeback will tell. Most importantly, the series still hasn't gotten the official green light from Netflix. But we have a new update from one of the original series' stars.

There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) coming our way from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge), aiming for a July 18 theatrical release. Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played heroine Julie James in the first two films, and Freddie Prinze Jr., who was Julie’s boyfriend Ray Bronson in those films, are reprising their roles – and they’re going to be facing off with a new “Fisherman” killer that’s stalking a whole new cast. One of the new cast members is Madelyn Cline of the Netflix series Outer Banks, and while speaking with JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray, Cline revealed that she had always said she didn’t want to do horror movies… until the I Know What You Did Last Summer opportunity came along.

Some of your Virgin River favorites are going south of the border in Season 7. The only question is… who? And why? And when? Ok, there are actually quite a few unanswered questions to tackle here.

Freddie Prinze Jr. is praising his work with co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt on the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel.
The thriller directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson reunites Prinze and Love Hewitt to reprise their roles of Ray Bronson and Julie James, respectively.
“Whatever a high school reunion feels like, that’s what it felt like,” Prinze told People about the reunion. “You have no idea what’s changed, what’s the same. You’re excited to show what you think you’re better at, you know what I mean? You hope they notice it. It was all those things.”
Prinze noted that returning to the roles and a tight filming schedule had to have them trust each other, adding, “I didn’t have any reason not to trust her. I know how much this character means to her. She puts everything into this girl and always has since the first movie.

The Day After Tomorrow, the disaster movie of 2004 starring Jake Gyllenhaal, has landed a new streaming home. Starting on July 1, Hulu subscribers can stream the thriller directed by Roland Emmerich, and considered by many to be one of the best movies by the director of both Independence Day movies, Anonymous and White House Down.
The film is not a direct adaptation, but inspired by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber's book The Coming Global Superstorm, a fictional book that explores the possibility of climate change producing a sudden worldwide apocalypse. It was adapted by Emmerich himself, who co-wrote the film with Jeffrey Nachmanoff. The Day After Tomorrow stars Gyllenhaal alongside Dennis Quaid, Sela Ward, Emmy Rossum, Ian Holm, Austin Nichols, and Dash Mihok.
