Gene Luen Yang, the Eisner-winning creator of acclaimed graphic novel American Born Chinese, is picking up the katana to take on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Idw Publishing.
Yang, who also penned the Eisner and Harvey-winning story Superman Smashes the Klan, will be the new writer of the ongoing comic, ushering in a new run beginning with issue no. 13.
Freddie E. Williams II, who previously worked on Batman/Tmnt, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, will be the new artist on the title.
The two pick up from writer Jason Aaron and artist Juan Ferrerya, the current team whose back-to-basics approach relaunched the book to best-selling status last year. Their finale closes with issue no. 12 in September. Yang and Williams’s run launches in December.
Yang grew up watching the classic 1980s cartoon with his brother and then reenacted the Turtles’ adventures with their action figures.

Jason Aaron, Fico Ossio, Rafa Sandoval, and Ulises Arreola’s Absolute Superman #9 picks up where the last issue ended, with the Man of Steel critically injured after being shot by Peacemaker Chris Smith using Kryptonite bullets provided by Brainiac.
In this issue, Superman is in the care of the Omega Men as they attempt to remove the bullets. For those of us who grew up watching Dustin Nguyen on “21 Jump Street,” seeing him back on our TV screens in recent years — most recently on Apple TV+’s “Dope Thief” — has been akin to reconnecting with an old friend. So where has Nguyen been, and how did he make his way back to Hollywood?
Turns out Nguyen had been building a busy and successful film career in Vietnam, where he had born but left as a teen (with his family in 1975 after the fall of Saigon). He first returned to the country to shoot the 2007 Vietnamese language film “The Rebel”— which became a huge blockbuster there.
“People were saying, ‘hey, you should come back here and be a part of this renaissance with the movie industry,” Nguyen recalls. “I made a decision to just move and hope for the best. I opened a production company there, and I...

Anyways, Kaosayananda has made a new indie action film starring Jack Kesy and Peter Weller and it will be released in select theaters, digital and on demand on July 11th by Saban Films. "Blending childhood nostalgia with creeping horror, T.A.M.A. asks a chilling question familiar to anyone who’s ever forgotten an old toy: what if that neglected digital pet came back… and it wasn’t happy?"

Based on a startling true incident, an octogenarian Vietnamese-American taxi driver finds himself commandeered by three jail-breakers on the neon-drenched streets of Orange County. At its core, this isn’t merely a crime caper where the aged and the outlaw collide—what begins as a gritty thriller (think Collateral meets Little Saigon) morphs unexpectedly into a study of displacement, memory, and emergent kinship.

The season finale of Dope Thief is now streaming on Apple TV+, and it was absolutely worth the wait. We finally got those long-awaited answers to the questions that have plagued us for several episodes. Now that season 1 has ended, fans everywhere are left wondering one thing: Will there be a season 2? *Spoilers from episode 8, "Innocent People," are included below.
At the time of this writing, Apple TV+ has neither renewed nor cancelled Dope Thief, so the future fate of the series remains unknown. Should there even be a second season? In my opinion, yes, there should be, not because there's still a part of the book to adapt but also because of how the finale ended. While some might feel it was enough to wrap up the season's narrative and bring the story to a close, I see a starting point for new plot lines to explore.

It’s hard to believe but sadly, it’s true: The end of Dope Thief season 1 is upon us, and it seems like yesterday that it just started — the markings of an excellent TV show.
Dope Thief premiered on Apple TV+ on March 14 with a two-episode release that introduced us to life-long friends Ray (Brian Tyree Henry) and Manny (Wagner Moura), two petty criminals getting by in life by reveling in a tad of delinquency. The pair frequently pose as DEA agents and rip off small-time drug dealers, but when they rob the wrong house, well, all hell breaks loose, and the lives and world they once knew are changed forever.
The series has been dark, gritty, tense, and full of action, boasting its fair share of twists amidst plenty of heartfelt moments between characters and the kind of levity that only Brian Tyree Henry can provide. As Ray and...

DC Comics’ Absolute Universe has proved that Diana will always be confident in her actions while remaining humble and appreciative. For example, in issues 1-5, Wonder Woman thanked the gods who helped her before, during, and after attacking monsters that could kill her.
Once again, this is shown in Absolute Wonder Woman No. 6 after she is taken to the underworld by the Greek god, Hades.

Descriptions of the Apple TV+ series “Dope Thief” as a “drug ring drama” are not exactly accurate. Yes, it revolves around small-time crooks and friends Ray and Manny posing as DEA agents to rob equally small-time drug dealers. But it’s Manny and Ray’s relationship that matters most, especially when a simple job turns deadly, and an anonymous drug kingpin determined to recoup his loss puts a bounty on their heads. Becoming targets for the DEA doesn’t help either.

Things are not looking good for Marvel Comics. The largest comics publisher in America faces major backlash as multiple high-profile creators voice frustration over unfair pay and lack of royalties. As more creators speak out, Marvel’s treatment of its artists is once again under scrutiny, raising concerns about how the company compensates for the talent behind its most iconic characters.
Acclaimed artist Dustin Nguyen recently announced he will no longer work with the company, citing exploitative practices and low compensation for international sales. His comments sparked a wider conversation with fellow industry veterans like Sean Murphy, Zoe Thorogood, and Yanick Paquette, who echoed similar grievances.

Stan Lee, forever immortal as the co-creator of so many classic Marvel Comics characters, died in 2018 at the age of 95. Now, former assistant/filmmaker Jon Bolerjack is raising funds on Kickstarter to complete a documentary about Lee’s last few years, entitled Stan Lee: The Final Chapter. And the story he plans to tell is a dark one.
According to the official Kickstarter, the documentary is “a rollercoaster of drama and duplicity,” as it explores how Lee “landed in the middle of a scandal as wild as any superhero saga”:
“The events are chronicled by filmmaker Jon Bolerjack who became an assistant to Stan and a fixture of his inner circle. Jon gained unprecedented access and filmed everything he saw. What he uncovered was a thriving market where Stan’s signatures and memorabilia were converted into huge piles of cash and rival hucksters double-crossed each other to control Stan’s fortune.

The Accidental Getaway Driver skillfully blurs the lines between gritty crime noir and a deeply personal human drama. Based on the article by Paul Kix, an elderly Vietnamese taxi driver is taken hostage after accepting a late-night job. He's thrust into a dangerous situation, but soon establishes a connection with one of his captors that transforms them both. The situation becomes increasingly dubious as everyone involved knows there can be no witnesses. The journey undertaken requires significant patience, but speaks stark truths about the burdens of past sins and confronting our failures with superb cinematography.

Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Utopia releases “The Accidental Getaway Driver” in theaters on Friday, February 28, 2025.
In the first third of “The Accidental Getaway Driver” you might think you’re in for the film of the festival at Sundance 2023. The setup is simple and suspenseful: Long (Hiệp Trần Nghĩa), an elderly Vietnamese immigrant who works as a driver is paid double for a late night assignment that turns out to be about keeping three escaped prisoners ahead of the law. When Tây (Dustin Nguyen), one of the convicts, points a gun at him to prevent him from bailing when he wants to get out, the tension ratchets up to the breaking point.
But “The Accidental Getaway Driver” is not the film of the festival. And though the tension ratchets up there near the beginning, that’s as high as it goes for the whole movie.

In a world of superhero movies and action extravaganzas, it's hard to find stories led by emotion and character study, and it's even harder for those films to get a wider audience to share their message with viewers. But in the case of Sing J. Lee's The Accidental Getaway Driver, it's a movie that tries to beat the odds and deliver a story with heart and a message of kindness that audiences need now more than ever. The best part is that it's a film that does it in style with a distinct visual language and powerfully emotional performances from its cast that audiences won't soon forget.

Director Sing J Lee on the release of The Accidental Getaway Driver: 'I think that there's this potency of such a human story being able to be shared in today's landscape'
Director Sing J Lee's directorial feature debut, The Accidental Getaway Driver – which had its premiere at Sundance Film Festival in 2023 – is inspired by true events that took place in Southern California in 2016. The film follows Long Mã (Hiep Tran Nghia), an elderly Vietnamese cab driver who finds himself in a frightening and misadventurous episode after he responds to a late-night call. In his pyjamas and held at gunpoint, three convicts from an Orange County jail force him to drive them to a motel, where he's held hostage. As a tense waiting game unfolds, he strikes up a surprising connection with one of his captors (Dustin Nguyen).

"I don't know who to trust anymore." "You have to trust yourself." Utopia has revealed an official trailer for an indie drama titled The Accidental Getaway Driver, from filmmaker Sing J. Lee. This one originally debuted at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival a few years ago - it didn't make much of an impact and has been stuck in release limbo ever since. After being taken hostage by the three bank robbers, Long begins to revisit his own past, marred by war, re-education camp, and estrangement from his family. Actor Hiệp Trần Nghĩa stars as Long. When he starts to develop a friendly relationship with one of the convicts, Tây (starring Dustin Nguyen), tension builds between the group, and Long is left wondering about his fate. The cast also includes Dali Benssalah,...

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for Batman and Robin #17!
Sorry, Batman, but Robin has a new ride, and he’s officially ditching the Batmobile’s passenger seat for it. Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Javier Fernández, and Marcelo Maiolo’s Batman and Robin #17 continues to follow the Dark Knight and Boy Wonder as they wrestle with personal tensions while battling the mass-murdering, increasingly supernatural villain, Memento. Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for Batman and Robin #17!Damian Wayne’s Robin has been undergoing some serious character growth, officially leaving his Bat-Brat days behind for a more mature evolution. For those who couldn’t stand his earlier antics, this transformation is a long-awaited relief. But for others, it’s a bittersweet farewell to the chaotic charm of the past. Love it or hate it, one question remains: What does this newfound growth mean for the future of the Boy Wonder?
This character growth opens up the possibility of an intriguing new role for Damian within the Bat-Family.
There’s no denying that Damian has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, especially under the creative team of Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Javier Fernández in their Batman and Robin run.
These two have pushed the Boy Wonder into the deep end of self-reflection, forcing him to question his role in fighting crime alongside Batman.

If any character is more essential to Batman lore than The Dark Knight himself, it would have to be Alfred Pennyworth. Without Alfred in his life, Bruce Wayne would not be the Batman he is today. More than a butler, he's the heart and soul of the Bat-Family, and his footprint can be felt in generally all forms of Bat media.
Even with Alfred dead in the current DC canon, his presence can still be felt in current Batman storylines, like when Damian Wayne's Robin carried a Kendrick Lamar-esque beef against Bane for killing Alfred. With that in mind, truth be told, a lot of characters and audiences forget that Alfred can hold his own in a fight. Again, Mr. Pennyworth is more than just a butler. He is a skilled marksman with a background in military training as a former British intelligence agent. For all intents and purposes,...

Batman and the X-Men have both been depicted by many of comics greatest artists, and two modern masters have just joined forces for a crossover between the two thats absolutely stunning. Time is running out for Bruce Lee fans on Netflix to stream the acclaimed series Warrior. The series is set to leave the streaming platform this month.
Per Netflix, Warrior will depart Netflix on Nov. 14. The bad news goes beyond having the title removed from the platform, as it's also further confirmation that Netflix will not be saving the series after all. When Warrior was added to Netflix this past February, there were hopes in the fan base that the show would pull in enough viewership to have the streamer order a fourth season. Unfortunately, even with a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the show didn't click well enough with subscribers for Netflix to pursue a continuation, coinciding with star Joe Taslim's recent comments that the show was officially finished.

There's no Batman without Robin, and for eighty-four years, the Boy Wonder has been flying through the streets of Gotham, showing off his incredible acrobatic skills and helping the Dark Knight keep the streets on the safer and lighter side, mainly through a quick quip or two. He's not just an essential piece of Gotham or even DC Comics but all of comics in general as the first sidekick ever to be introduced to the world.
Since then, many people have held the mantle of Robin, fighting side by side with all those who have held the mantle of Batman, and the costume has changed hands just as many times. Without further ado, here are the 10 best Robin costumes in all of DC history, thanks to all the wonderful heroes that have put on the costume of Robin and had a turn at being the greatest sidekick of all time.

With the recent conclusion of the 10-episode miniseries Suicide Squad Isekai, anime and comic fans wonder if DC Comics will take more chances of adapting its beloved properties into classic anime tropes. After all, if characters like Harley Quinn and Rick Flag can become waifus and husbandos, then characters like Zatanna and Nightwing can, too. DC Studios is obviously willing to take its properties to new and exciting places, and the publishers own a few properties that would be perfect for an anime twist.
Various other anime genres would fit DC properties or take them to interesting developments they couldn't get in their original medium. Robin and Superboy in a slice-of-life, Wonder Woman in a Frieren-inspired action adventure, and Batman Beyond reappearing with a Ghost in the Shell paint job the possibilities are endless.

Catwoman has to rely on the villain Hush for life-saving medical treatment in Catwoman #68. Hush, a skilled surgeon, has a dark history with Catwoman and may transform their relationship. Catwoman and Hush share a deep hatred for each other, raising questions about their uneasy alliance.
Since Catwoman has grown closer to the Bat-Family and given up her more villainous habits, it's no surprise that she isn't on great terms with the majority of Batman's rogues. But there's one rogue that Catwoman absolutely cannot stand, and it seems that now she's going to have to rely on Hush to save her life.
With Gotham City on the verge of collapsing due to the machinations of the White Glove Society, Catwoman is in desperate need of medical attention to save her life. With no other options, she has to turn to the greatest surgeon that Gotham City has ever seen, the villainous Hush,...

In what sounds like a Hollywood fever dream, Channing Tatum is campaigning for a blockbuster franchise crossover that would truly be out of this world.
Following the news in the 2014 Sony email leak, Tatum confirmed that a crossover of 21 Jump Street and Men in Black, entitled Mib 23, was once in development, and he’s still hoping the ambitious movie gets made.
“There is a project that was written and it’s still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie,” he told ComicBook.com after starring alongside Jonah Hill in the 2012 action comedy 21 Jump Street and its sequel 22 Jump Street (2014).
An adaptation of the 1987-1991 Fox series, they played two arguably youthful-looking cops assigned to go undercover in a high school. Original stars Johnny Depp, Holly Robinson and Peter DeLuise made cameos in the movie, with Richard Grieco and Dustin Nguyen appearing in the sequel.

Dustin Nguyen's unused Nightwing cover art showcases Dick Grayson in striking blue hues with an eye-catching design. Dustin Nguyen, a seasoned DC Comics artist and independent creator, may find a way to release the unused cover art for fans to enjoy in the future, but it's uncertain if this will actually happen. Nightwing's popularity is soaring as he leads the Titans and remains a staple hero in the DC Universe, making this cover art something worth paying attention to for fans.
Nightwing is a founding member of Batmans extended Bat-Family and has become such a popular DC Comics hero in his own right that fans have been enjoying a near-constant drip of comics featuring Dick Grayson for decades now. Fortunately and unfortunately for fans, DC alum Dustin Nguyen has just released a piece of Nightwing cover art that regrettably never made it onto a physical comic release, and thanks to social media,...
