Blumhouse's Unmade Spawn Movie Has The Most Cursed Production History You'll Ever See
Image
Outside of Marvel or DC, it's tough to find a more impactful comic book superhero than that of Spawn. Created by former Marvel Comics superstar Todd McFarlane, "Spawn" served as one the big launch titles for Image Comics (which McFarlane co-founded back in the early 1990s). It was a massive, genre re-defining IP, with the comic book series still going strong to this day. "Spawn" was even big enough to get a big-budget, live-action movie adaptation from New Line Cinema in 1997.

Unfortunately, the film didn't do well critically or commercially. Ever since then, McFarlane has been highly protective of the Spawn character and understandably so, even holding off on discussing a new movie until roughly 2009. Later, in 2016, McFarlane revealed he had finished a script for a new "Spawn" film. A year after, the horror maestros at Blumhouse Productions signed on to produce the project, with McFarlane slated to write and direct the "Spawn" movie himself.

Greg Nicotero Comments on Jason Universe Mask Design; “Somewhere Between Part 2 & Part 3”
Image
We are just days away from the August 13 online (and in person) premiere of Sweet Revenge, a short-form vignette from the Jason Universe that will officially bring Jason Voorhees back to the screen for the first time since 2009. It will also serve to introduce the brand new Jason Voorhees character design, which was unveiled with concept artwork earlier this year.

Makeup effects master Greg Nicotero helped the Jason Universe team redesign Jason Voorhees for upcoming merch and marketing activations like Sweet Revenge, with the goal to “maintain Jason’s original essence.” Horror Inc’s Rob Barsamian promised in a statement back in May that we’d be getting “a defined look and feel that takes Jason into his next chapter.”

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Greg Nicotero himself offered up some thoughts on the fresh new design at San Diego Comic-Con late last month. Nicotero explains, “They said, ‘We want to reimagine him.

Robert Rodriguez in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)
Eli Roth unveils The Piano Killer faux trailer, which will be attached to Jimmy and Stiggs in theatres
Robert Rodriguez in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)
After creating the Thanksgiving faux trailer for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse back in 2007, Eli Roth wanted to make an entire feature out of faux trailers, a project he called Trailer Trash. Trailers he teased for that included Nascar Dog, Bear Witness, and Farmageddon, plus collaborations with Edgar Wright, Robert Rodriguez, Peter Berg, Howard Stern, and Greg Nicotero, among others. Sadly, Trailer Trash never happened – but we did get a Thanksgiving movie eventually. And today, a new Roth faux trailer has dropped online! It’s called The Piano Killer and it will be playing in theatres with the bonkers splatterfest Jimmy and Stiggs, but you can watch it right now in the embed above.

Note that the faux trailer for The Piano Killer ends with the promise that the film is coming in 2042, a nod to the fact that it took seventeen years for the Thanksgiving movie to get made.

Greg Nicotero comments on redesigning Jason Voorhees for Jason Universe
Universe (2021)
2025 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of one of the most popular horror movies ever made, Friday the 13th. Last year, the Friday the 13th franchise rights holders at Horror Inc. announced that they were launching the Jason Universe, which would encompass “new Friday the 13th activations that will span a wide range of platforms from entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise and more to be announced @JasonUniverse13 on social media or by visiting the official Jason Universe website.” As part of the celebration, Horror Inc. has teamed up with Angry Orchard Hard Cider to produce a 13 minute short film called Sweet Revenge – and while preparing to bring Jason Voorhees back to the screen, they also brought in legendary special effects artist Greg Nicotero to give the character a bit of a redesign. An image of Nicotero’s Jason has been going around for a few months, and now Nicotero...

'Walking Dead' Legend Teases New Version of Classic Horror Icon
Image
Greg Nicotero, the makeup wizard famous for his work on the TV franchise The Walking Dead, is also the visionary artist behind some of the gnarliest special effects you've ever seen. His groundbreaking technique has turned him into a major presence in the horror genre, which is likely the reason he was selected to breathe new life into one of the most iconic killers in movie history. Jason Voorhees has been dormant for some time, but now he's woken up with a new look — a transformation that can be credited to Nicotero.

Nicotero spoke to Comic Book recently at the San Diego Comic-Con, where there were plenty of announcements regarding Voorhees, and the new horror franchise known as the Jason Universe, from Friday the 13th LLC and Horror, Inc. The artist's first contact with Voorhees came via 1993's Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, ironically a sequel that doesn't...

This 'The Walking Dead' Spin-Off Is Going Full Western According to Series Star [Exclusive]
Image
Those looking for a bit of Western flair in the next season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon are in for a treat. Over the weekend, during the Sdcc festivities, Collider’sSteve Weintraub sat down to speak with the five folks closest to the production —Scott M. Gimple, David Zabel, Greg Nicotero, Norman Reedus, and Melissa McBride — and received some intriguing intel regarding the formatting structure of what will serve as the title’s penultimate set of episodes. Eager to share his love for what he referred to as a “f***ing great” season, Reedus was the first to liken the next part of Daryl (Reedus) and Carol’s (McBride) journey to “a Western.”

Happy to fully break down what the leading star meant, series creator Zabel opened up about the influences that he and his fellow writer and producer, Jason Richman, used as their northern star. With the...

Image
Ten years after its launch, horror streamer Shudder has grown and retained a loyal audience. The secret? Backburning trends and analytics in favor of the personal taste of a dedicated team of fanatics.

“For a lot of people, horror is personal. It certainly is for me,” says Shudder senior VP of programming and acquisitions, Samuel Zimmerman, who has an encyclopedic knowledge of horror movies. “When Shudder first started, I was given a lot of support. ‘You’re the curator of this, because Shudder is meant to feel hand-picked, programmed for people who love the genre.’ As we’ve grown, sticking to that ambition has been really important, because it shines a light on who we are as a team.”

Shudder started as a niche streaming service launched by AMC Networks midway through the run of the flagship channel’s massive success with “The Walking Dead.” Originally, the platform was focused...

2025 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of one of the most popular horror movies ever made, Friday the 13th, the movie that launched my favorite franchise, and one that I feel is underrated, as it’s a great film that often gets overshadowed by its sequels. AMC Seals the Fate of The Walking Dead's Daryl Dixon Spinoff Ahead of Season 3 Premiere
Image
It's been a decade and a half since The Walking Dead premiered in 2010, and almost three years since the original show concluded in 2022. However, the universe keeps thriving with several spinoffs.

The AMC hit zombie series has spawned multiple spinoffs, but now only two of them remain: The Walking Dead: Dead City, which follows Maggie and Negan's adventures in New York, and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which continues the fan-favorite character's adventures in Europe. The two series have received mixed reviews, but have continued to be widely popular. Ahead of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3's premiere on Sept. 7, AMC has just confirmed at San Diego Comic Con at Hall H that Carol and Daryl's adventures will officially continue with the fourth and final season.

The new season will premiere shortly, and the cast and executive producers will do their best not to keep fans waiting.

Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon's Future After Early Season 4 Renewal Gets Encouraging Update From Greg Nicotero
Image
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is one of the franchise's most popular recent projects, and Greg Nicotero just provided some positive news regarding its chances of being renewed. Having premiered in September 2023, the show has returned to our screens every year, with season 3 currently scheduled to be released on September 7, 2025.

With Daryl Dixon arguably being The Walking Dead's best spinoff yet, the future was already looking positive for the European-based series, and Nicotero's comments only make it look healthier. While at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Screen Rant spoke to the franchise veteran, who was optimistic about the project's longevity.

Although he revealed there wasn't an exact plan, Nicotero mentioned that the protagonists' dynamic leads to so much story potential, meaning Daryl Dixon could go on for a long time, and with Daryl and Carol's long-awaited reunion happening in season 2, there is seemingly no end in sight for their relationship. Twd's Greg Nicotero Reveals If Daryl Dixon Season 3 Will Finally Introduce Rick's Forgotten Family Member
Image
The Walking Dead's Greg Nicotero reveals if The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 will introduce Rick's forgotten family member from the comics. Daryl Dixon season 3 will see Daryl and Carol surviving in Spain. While they'll encounter new faces, the country was also featured in The Walking Dead: The Alien, a spinoff comic focused on Jeffrey Grimes, Rick's brother.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan during San Diego Comic-Con, Nicotero revealed Rick's brother had been talked about while developing Daryl Dixon season 3. However, the executive producer explained there hasn't "been any real interest" in seeing him appear yet. However, he doesn't rule out the possibility in the future. Check out what Nicotero had to say below:

Ash Crossan: The Walking Dead Universe is vast, and I feel like honestly a staple of Comic-Con, like every elevator I've gotten in for the last 13 years, there's a walker in there.

George A. Romero at an event for Land of the Dead (2005)
George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead is getting a 4K Uhd release from Scream Factory
George A. Romero at an event for Land of the Dead (2005)
George A. Romero‘s first two Dead movies, Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, were quickly seen as horror classics. But the third film in his series, 1985’s Day of the Dead (watch it Here), had a tougher time gaining acceptance. Many fans saw it as a disappointment, the weak link. It took years for Day of the Dead to be re-evaluated and viewed as a classic. July 19th marked the 40th anniversary of the original release of this classic – and coinciding with the anniversary, Scream Factory announced (via Fangoria) that they will be giving Day of the Dead a 4K Uhd release! A release date has not yet been scheduled.

Written and directed by Romero, Day of the Dead has the following synopsis: The walking dead have taken over the world. Only a small band of scientists and solders are definitely known to remain, and...

Alex Aja’s Blood-soaked ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ Remake is Among the Best, and It’s Now on Streaming
Image
Remakes are often maligned among horror fans, but without them we wouldn’t have films like The Fly, The Thing, or The Blob. Granted, for all of the gems there are, there’s an equal measure of awful remakes as well. The line that separates the remakes between great and lackluster usually falls upon the director, their vision, and their intent for the new update. In the case of The Hills Have Eyes, it was original creator Wes Craven that saw an opportunity to update his gritty 1977 film after seeing the success of remakes like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the early aughts.

After watching High Tension, Craven approached director Alexandre Aja and his screenwriting partner Gregory Levasseur about the possibility of updating his film with the caveat that it has a new approach and something worthwhile in justifying its existence in the first place. The collaboration between the horror...

Arrow Video is bringing Creepshow 2 to 4K Uhd
Image
The George A. Romero / Stephen King horror anthology Creepshow is one of my all-time favorite movies – and so is the Michael Gornick-directed sequel Creepshow 2, which I’ve probably watched even more times than its predecessor. I love everything about Creepshow 2, so I was very glad to hear the news that Arrow Video is giving the film a 4K Uhd release in the US, the UK, and Canada. The release date is September 30th, and copies can be pre-ordered through a variety of links (check out the list on Arrow Video’s Facebook page), including This One.

Directed by Gornick from a screenplay by George A. Romero (based on stories written by Stephen King), Creepshow 2 has the following synopsis: Join our old friend, the rotting Creep himself, as he introduces this horror anthology which presents gruesome looks at three tales of horror: a hit-and-run driver in “The Hitchhiker...

'Friday the 13th' Short Film Disappoints Fans With Corporate Tie-In
Image
The name Jason Voorhees used to instill fear in the hearts of campers everywhere, but after lying dormant for more than 15 years, he's not exactly everyone’s worst nightmare these days. Now, the iconic horror villain is set to return in a new Friday the 13th short film to help celebrate 45 years of body parts, machetes, and blood, but once you hear what it's about, the new film unfortunately seems like nothing more than a wild cash grab.

Per Variety, Horror Inc., owners of the franchise, will unleash a new short-form vignette later this year as part of their Jason Universe initiative to help celebrate 45 years of Friday the 13th. Titled Sweet Revenge, the short film is to be directed by Mike P. Nelson, and is said to be the "centerpiece of the franchise's bold 45th anniversary campaign." That all sounds well and good, and though Sweet Revenge promises to...

A New Friday The 13th Movie Is On The Way, But Not How You'd Expect
Image
Some good news today for "Friday the 13th" fans as, for the first time in a very long time, we're getting a new film featuring Jason Voorhees. The only bad news is that it's a short film and not a feature film, but after more than 15 years without any movies in this franchise, beggars can't be choosers. I myself am one of those beggars, so I'll take what I can get.

As announced by Variety, Mike P. Nelson, of "Wrong Turn" (2021) fame, is set to direct "Sweet Revenge," a project -- one labeled a "vignette" -- featuring the famed Camp Crystal Lake killer of "Friday the 13th" fame. The short film hails from the folks at Horror Inc., who own the rights to the property, and is part of the ongoing Jason Universe, which launched last year. Though no specific plot details are available for the time being, the production is teasing,...

George A. Romero at an event for Land of the Dead (2005)
3-hour director’s cut of George A. Romero’s Martin is safely housed in the University of Pittsburgh
George A. Romero at an event for Land of the Dead (2005)
For decades, fans of George A. Romero mourned the loss of the black and white, three and a half hour director’s cut of his film Martin. On an audio commentary, Romero once said something along the lines of the “greatest tragedy of his career” was that the film reels containing his Martin director’s cut went missing. Romero passed away in 2017, but then the director’s cut film reels were somehow finally been located in 2021 and went up for auction at Julien’s. Martin cinematographer Michael Gornick said this director’s cut “was always Romero’s preferred version. May it soon return safely to the custody of Richard Rubinstein and Braddock Associates for digital revitalization and distribution to the world.” Sadly, producer Richard Rubinstein made it clear that he did not want the 3-hour version of the movie making its way out into the world, for whatever reason. The...
