The planned live-service title Kingdom Hearts Missing-Linkhas been officially canceled by Square Enix. The game, which was originally planned for a 2024 release, would have been a live-service mobile game that utilized Gps. Unfortunately, Kh fans will never get a chance to experience the title. According to a statement on the official Kingdom Hearts website, Square Enix has "made the decision to cancel the development of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link." After working to develop the title, the studio has "determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time." Sephiroth is one of the most iconic – and therefore immediately recognizable – villains in video game history. With his signature Masamune sword striking immediate fear in any gamer who has had to face him and a fall from celebrated war hero to genocidal nemesis, Sephiroth's is one of the most celebrated arcs in the history of gaming. His climactic confrontation with Cloud Strife and his pivotal role in the fate of the planet cemented him as not only a defining figure within the Final Fantasy franchise, but across the entirety of gaming.

Image
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was just released on PC the other day and despite being immediately hit by pirates, it’s been a huge success. And with this, the community’s attention now goes to Part 3 of this Remake saga. Square Enix has done an amazing job so far and it seems like the studio is keeping up the good work.

The first two games have been hits and the last one might too. | Image Credit: Square Enix

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi recently confirmed in an interview that Part 3 of the series will have the iconic mini-game slap-fight between Tifa Lockhart and Scarlet. Considering the flair that the developers have put into other iconic scenes, we have no doubt that this will deliver as well.

Image
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is an RPG title, developed by BioWare, and published by EA. However, this title was delayed due to some unforeseen reasons, which recently came to light.

Video game projects need various elements such as creative brains, technological resources, and storytelling skills which must work together to create an immersive and engaging video game for the fans. However, as the phrase goes, “too many cooks spoil the broth,” and this notion is strongly felt within the gaming industry, especially in the case of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Kingdom Hearts 4 Update From Tetsuya Nomura Is Bad News If You Loved The Other Games
Image
The Kingdom Hearts franchise is a long and complicated one, but something that has become quite a cult classic, with diehard fans detailing the complex lore that stretches across 13 different entries. To say that it has become completely unapproachable for newcomers is an understatement, putting it in competition with the Yakuza series for the most impenetrable narrative. However, it seems like that's all about to change, although Kingdom Hearts veterans are going to be quite disappointed.

The 13 Kingdom Hearts games have definitely made things a little complicated, earning the series the right to join the small but substantial list of games with terrible naming conventions. Luckily, at least for newcomers, the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4 will change all of that with a new update from its creator, Tetsuya Nomura, delivering some long-awaited news. However, while it may appeal to those who've never touched a Kingdom Hearts game before, those who've been...

Kingdom Hearts 4 Update Confirms New Details, Will Be A "Story Reset"
Image
Kingdom Hearts 4 director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that the next game in the series won't be a direct sequel so much as it will be a total story reboot. The Kingdom Hearts series has, especially since recent entries, become notorious for its convoluted lore. Its impenetrable naming conventions and willingness to hop between a clashing collection of Disney movies don't help - not to mention its penchant for Final Fantasy cameos. Kingdom Hearts 4 doesn't have an official release window just yet, but the earliest details of its story have been revealed in a new interview with series creator Tetsuya Nomura.

In an interview with Japanese-language magazine Young Jump, as summarized by @thegamersjoint on X (formerly Twitter), Nomura explained that the story of Kingdom Hearts 4 represents a universal reset, or the beginning of a new saga. That might have something to do with another of Nomura's stated goals for the sequel:...

FF7 Remake Trilogy Has A Major Story Issue That Could Repeat Square Enix History
Image
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has faced criticism for its convoluted narrative and pacing issues. Square Enix's tendency to overload games with complex lore and storylines is a pattern seen in both the Remake series and Kingdom Hearts. To improve the Remake Trilogy's ending, Square Enix should focus on building the story early on rather than cramming it into the last two hours.

Although Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the best games to release in 2024 so far, it quickly garnered a similarly problematic reputation to its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Both games have astounded audiences with graphics, battle systems, and sweeping narratives in the first two installments of the FF7 Remake Trilogy. However, the endings of both games have fans reeling with confusion and criticism.

While there are too many redeeming qualities behind the trilogy to write it off completely, Square Enix's narrative choices have nonetheless blemished otherwise amazing games.

Latest Kingdom Hearts 4 Report Shows A Release Date That's Soon
Image
Kingdom Hearts 4 may be coming sooner than expected, with a reported release year of 2025. Despite past delays, the game's development seems to be on track for a timely release. The new installment will focus on the "Lost Master" saga, featuring Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy.

While Square Enix may remain quiet when it comes to the development of Kingdom Hearts 4, a new report alleges that the highly-anticipated sequel could be out sooner than expected. Despite its massive fanbase and passionate community, Kingdom Hearts isn't exactly known for maintaining a consistent release schedule given that over a decade passed between the launch of the second and third games. Smaller titles have been released for handheld systems and mobile devices in that time span, but the mainline franchise has always suffered when it comes to consistent releases.

Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 Remake is Already “Well Under Way”
Image
Final Fantasy 7 was originally released in 1997, and at the time was a technical marvel and a masterpiece from Square Enix. Fans have been invested in the lore and the characters, then two decades later the game received the triple-a remake and has been divided into three separate parts to form the perfect trilogy. The second part just came out and Square Enix is already working on the final chapter.

It is foolish to assume that Square Enix would not complete the trilogy, given the amount of success the first two had despite being locked to PlayStation as a timed exclusive, the games did exceptionally well. The franchise has been introduced to a new generation of fans and honored the memory of original fans in a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation.

At the moment, the third act of the original game is now being worked on by the developers.

[Spoiler Alert: This interview includes details about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth]

The highly anticipated action-adventure RPG Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has finally been unleashed into the Chocobo wilds.

Rebirth, the second game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy that serves as a three-part reimagining of the original 1997 game, follows everyone’s favorite ragtag eco-terrorists Cloud (Cody Christian), Barret (John Eric Bentley), Tifa (Britt Baron), Aerith (Briana White) and Red Xiii (Max Mittelman) as they make the perilous journey to The Forgotten Capital in hopes to stop the legendary solider and deranged superhuman Sephiroth from plunging the planet into chaos.

Bringing the Final Fantasy VII Remake project to fruition was no easy feat as developers had to tackle maintaining a balance between the beloved story that has permeated video game pop culture for nearly three decades and creating new experiences for a new generation of fans while expanding on the original material for diehards. Square Enix revealed a new look at Kingdom Hearts 4 to celebrate the launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The sneak peek shows Sora in a city resembling modern-day Tokyo, with a billboard featuring Sephiroth surrounded by flames. Kingdom Hearts 4 does not have a release date yet, but players can access the entire series on various platforms.

To celebrate the launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, developer and publisher Square Enix unveiled a new look at Kingdom Hearts 4. The Creators of ‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ Want You To Have ‘Positive Anxiety’
Image
As anyone familiar with Hollywood could tell you, remakes are hard. Other than bringing something old to a new audience, many remakes struggle to bring anything fresh enough to justify the double dip. In the world of video games, it’s a little different. Based solely on the tech aspect, remaking a game affords developers the opportunity to fully execute a vision in ways previous generations only dreamed of. But that still doesn’t make it easy — especially when the game you’re recreating is considered one of the greatest ever made.

How Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Will Change Sephiroth
Image
While 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 remake controversially changed many elements of the original game, the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is expected to significantly alter even more aspects of the classic RPG. In a new blog post, the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth team hinted at how those changes will impact two fan-favorite characters: Sephiroth and Aerith.

In the parts of the original Final Fantasy 7 adventure that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will remake and re-imagine, Sephiroth was still something of a mystery. Though players were aware of the character by that point, he wouldn’t become a larger player in the narrative until a little later in the game. However, the version of Sephiroth that we’ll see in Rebirth will be a much more active participant in that specific part of the experience.

“In the original game, Sephiroth barely appeared during this section, but in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, he...

Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link - Beta, Gameplay, Story, & Release Date Details
Image
Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link is an upcoming mobile game that explores new areas of the franchise's story, featuring a mix of Disney and Square Enix characters. Square Enix is developing the game and involves franchise creator Tetsuya Nomura. The gameplay incorporates Gps positioning and showcases fast-paced 3D combat, with a focus on new characters and a unique story set in an unknown era.

The Kingdom Hearts franchise is returning with Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, an upcoming game for iOS and Android that explores new corners of the story. Kingdom Hearts games stand out from other Action RPGs with crossover elements from Disney films and Square Enix's Final Fantasy franchise, although its increasingly plentiful helping of original narrative and characters have helped it grow into a complex work of its own. Missing Link is far from the first Kingdom Hearts title to act as a spinoff to the numbered games, but...

FF7 Rebirth’s Biggest Improvement Over Remake Would Be Purely Cosmetic
Image
FF7 Rebirth will bring changes to the FF7 Remake formula, including a more open setting and possible changes to the story, potentially leading to a happier ending. Despite the changes, FF7 Rebirth is unlikely to be a total departure from Remake, as it will still maintain a linear structure and similar battle system. Adding changeable outfits to FF7 Rebirth would be a simple yet effective way to add depth to the world, increase player choice, and pay homage to Final Fantasy's history and fashion influence.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will make many changes to the Remake formula, but the best change would have absolutely nothing to do with gameplay or story. It's already well known that FF7 Rebirth is taking the remake trilogy into new territory, with a more open setting and larger environments for players to explore. That lines up perfectly with the part of the original FF7 during...

‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Aims to Thrive Where ‘Game of Thrones’ Failed
Image
It’s been a long time since I truly loved a Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy Xii, which came out in 2006, was a somewhat forgettable distraction that mostly left me longing for another Vagrant Story. Unfairly maligned Final Fantasy Xiii (2009) had a little je ne sais quoi but didn’t fully hit the mark. My aversion to Tetsuya Nomura’s nonsensical storytelling in Kingdom Hearts pushed me to skip Final Fantasy Xv entirely. Even the 1990s nostalgia-baiting Final Fantasy VII Remake dared to amaze, right up until it didn’t.

FF7 Rebirth Can Actually Correct One Of FF7 Remake's Biggest Mistakes
Image
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is said to be coming in Winter 2023, and with it comes the chance to fix a major shortcoming from Final Fantasy 7 Remake. 2020 saw the long-awaited re-imagining of the classic Final Fantasy 7 - or at least the game’s initial chapters that took place in the cyberpunk city of Midgar. Final Fantasy 7 Remake saw Cloud Strife and his friends take their first steps on a journey to expose the corruption of Shinra and combat a greater threat from the company’s dark past.

FF7 Remake ended with Cloud and company on the run from Shinra’s forces and the renegade Solider Sephiroth, but players won’t have to wait too long to see what happens next. FF7 Rebirth, the second installment of the three-part Remake series, was first announced during the Final Fantasy 7 Anniversary Celebration livestream and will continue from where FF7 Remake’s timeline-altering ending left off.

FF7 Plot Threads FF7 Rebirth Should Fix
Image
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has the opportunity to fix plot threads from the original Final Fantasy 7. Though FF7 is famous for its brilliant twists and fleshed out world, the dense plot left some players confused, and a few storylines lacked the closure they deserved. Fans of the original game have played through the story enough to fully grasp it, but the FF7 Remake trilogy must appeal to new players as well. As such, revising plot points is essential to hook new fans.

The FF7 Remake trilogy has set up these revisions neatly thanks to the ending of the first game. FF7 Remake introduced Whispers: mysterious specters that preserve fate and keep the game’s events on the same path as the original FF7. However, at the end of the game Cloud and his allies defeat the Whispers, loosing themselves from fate and freeing the FF7 Remake’s creators from the confines of their source material.

Names The Third FF7 Remake Might (& Definitely Won't) Use
Image
A third Final Fantasy VII Remake game is on the way and there is speculation about what names it will and will not use. When Square Enix announced FF7 Rebirth it confirmed that there will also be a third game in the series, though the name or release window of that game is still unknown. The first game is FF7 Remake and its sequel is FF7 Rebirth, which many fans believe is a clue to the title of the third game, as it will likely involve a word starting with "Re", of which there are many possible candidates.

FF7 Remake co-director Tetsuya Nomura has teased the name of the third FF7 Remake, suggesting that it will follow the naming convention of using a word beginning with the letter R, as he would like the series to be abbreviated as Ffviir, which would help separate it from the original game. It...

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: 5 Theories About What “Rebirth” Means
Image
While the recent Final Fantasy 7 anniversary showcase was filled with incredible announcements, none was more exciting or welcome than the reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: the next chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.

While there are so many things we want to know about that game, few mysteries are more pressing or fascinating than the meaning of the Rebirth name. After all, creative director Tetsuya Nomura has already stated that there is some kind of significance to the game’s name that he can’t wait to share.

So while it might be quite some time before we all understand the full, official meaning of the Rebirth name (the game isn’t scheduled to be released until “next winter”), that doesn’t mean that we can’t spend a little time speculating about what Rebirth means and why that title is so potentially significant.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
Should Kingdom Hearts 4 Include Marvel and Star Wars Worlds?
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
The Kingdom Hearts franchise has entertained gamers for two decades by combining the disparate worlds of Final Fantasy and all of the characters Disney has to offer. However, while Disney’s library of properties has grown significantly since Kingdom Hearts’ humble beginnings, the House of Mouse has yet to introduce its Marvel or Star Wars franchises to the series. But according to some eagle-eyed gamers, that’s exactly what’s happening in the next entry.

The final half of the anniversary trailer then devotes time to showcasing the modernized world of Quadratum and Sora’s new photorealistic look. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Will Feature New Bosses
Matthew Byrd Nov 25, 2019

Final Fantasy 7 fans may spot some unfamiliar encounters in the upcoming remake...

Square Enix has confirmed that they are adding new bosses (and possibly other surprises) to Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

"With regard to new characters, of whom I said during past interviews that there would be 'none'," says director Tetsuya Nomura via a blog post. "Though they aren't main characters, their numbers ended up growing considerably in the process of creating a rich depiction of Midgar. When you think of Midgar’s final boss, you probably think of the M.O.T.O.R., but in this game, new bosses will appear and add to the excitement of the story even more."

Nomura doesn't expand on that idea, but it's certainly interesting that he referenced M.O.T.O.R. in regards to the idea of adding new bosses to the game. That would seem to suggest...

Kingdom Hearts: Why Mickey Mouse Only Had a Cameo in First Game
Matthew Byrd Jan 24, 2019

Disney placed severe restriction on Mickey Mouse's use in Kingdom Hearts.

The Kingdom Hearts series may be a beloved success, but there was a time when Square Enix had to convince Disney to let them work with so many beloved properties. While the pitch process was mostly smooth, Disney did place one major limitation on Mickey Mouse.

"Actually, due to contractual issues, we were only able to use him in one scene," said Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura in the Kingdom Hearts Ultimania book. "Disney gave us permission for a role such as waving from the back of a crowd of people in town, but if we were going to use him, I thought we should use him in a single shot to leave the greatest impression."

The shot that Nomura is referring to happens near the very end of Kingdom Hearts. It is then that...

Kingdom Hearts III Director Reveals Release Dates for New Footage and Final 2018 Trailer
It looks like more Kingdom Hearts III content is in store for 2018, as the game's director, Tetsuya Nomura, has revealed.  More within...

When a game has taken a long time to release, a common joke amongst the gaming community is that, "It isn't a game at all, just a series of trailers.".  In the case of Kingdom Hearts III, that joke has been made at nauseum.  Unfortunately, until January 29th of next year, that joke will continue.  Especially since Square Enix isn't finished releasing content for 2018.  In a new post on the official Kingdom Hearts page, Tetsuya Nomura, Kingdom Hearts Director, Writer, and Artist, revealed two dates in December when new Kingdom Hearts content will drop.

It's exciting to see that there is more on the way, but with all due respect to Mr. Nomura, he really shouldn't feel bad.  At this point, we've watched countless of trailers, seen tons of new worlds and characters,...

Final Fantasy 15: Square Enix Cancels Dlc Following Director's Departure
Matthew Byrd Nov 8, 2018

Square Enix has cancelled all but one piece of Final Fantasy Xv Dlc.

Square Enix has announced their decision to cancel all but one piece of Final Fantasy Xv Dlc following the departure of the game's director, Hajime Tabata.

Oddly, Square Enix decided to announce the cancellation of this content by promoting a special live stream event. It's not often that you hear about a studio hyping up the announcement that they are canceling content, but there you go. While Square Enix did confirm that they will still release episode Ardyn (the final part of a series of planned story Dlc releases), but three other pieces of previously announced Dlc have been canceled and the studio does not plan on releasing any more Dlc for the game.

However, Square Enix did announce that a standalone version of Final Fantasy Xv's Comrades multiplayer mode will be released for...

For fans, like us, who have been waiting an exhaustive amount of time for Square Enix and Disney to finally release Kingdom Hearts III, each new trailer has only helped prove that it was well-worth the wait.  The latest trailer out of the Tokyo Game Show is no exception, either.  In previous previews, Square Enix has given us looks into the worlds of Monsters Inc., Toy Story, Frozen, Tangled, and various other IPs and original worlds, but this new (subtitled) Tgs reveals more of what Big Hero 6's San Fransokyo has to offer and an impressively detailed Pirates of the Caribbean you have to see to believe.

Tetsuya Nomura at an event for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005)
‘Kingdom Hearts’ Tetsuya Nomura Worked Hard to Bring You Those Pixar Levels
Tetsuya Nomura at an event for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005)
It’s been five years since Square Enix and game director Tetsuya Nomura announced “Kingdom Hearts 3.” While the man behind the blend of Square Enix and Disney magic says his perspective on the game hasn’t wavered, he’s also been one step ahead of players since the beginning.

While Nomura didn’t have the entire series planned out, he was always looking ahead to the next chapter in what has become a sprawling saga. So while he didn’t necessarily know where the path would lead Sora, Riku, and friends at the start, he’s always planning.

“When I was developing ‘Kingdom Hearts 1’, I already had in mind what I wanted to do with the next titles, ‘Chain of Memories’ and ‘Kingdom Hearts 2′” Nomura says. “While we were in development of ‘Chain of Memories’ and ‘Kingdom Hearts 2,’ I was already thinking of story lines for ‘Coded,’ ‘358/2 Days,’ and ‘Birth by Sleep.

‘Kingdom Hearts 3’ Delivers Lush Graphics, Pixar Quality
“Kingdom Hearts III” is a meaningful evolution of a nearly 16-year-old franchise that manages to not only absorb the best bits of the 15 games that came before it, but also enrich them with refined graphics and the addition of Pixar to the Disney-Square-Enix mash-up.

The game, which still doesn’t have a release date beyond sometime in 2018, was shown off to a gathering of press on Thursday evening in Santa Monica. Those in attendance were given the game, playing through a boss fight in Hercules World and then playing through nearly a third of the Toy Story World levels.

Before starting the hands-on play sessions, Shinji Hashimoto, executive producer of the series, welcomed everyone and then kicked off a panel discussion about the game with community manager Sunil Godhania and “Kingdom Hearts III” co-directors Tetsuya Nomura and Tai Yasue.

The talk confirmed that “Kingdom Heart III” will wrap up the...

'Final Fantasy Versus Xiii' Will Have Controllable Mechs
With all of the recent talk of "Final Fantasy Xiii-2" and "Final Fantasy Type-0," you might be starting to worry that Square-Enix has forgotten about -- or worse, shelved -- the originally announced sibling game to 2009's "Final Fantasy Xiii," "Final Fantasy Versus Xiii." I'll give you a minute to sort through the ridiculous number of finals and fantasies referenced above. Now for the good news: "Versus Xiii" is still very much in development, as revealed in a new interview with the game's director and real-world hero of the series, Tetsuya Nomura.

The big thing Nomura touched upon in the interview was the game's battle system. He said that the menu items seen in a recently revealed trailer spell out to Magic, Item, Summon and Ex-arts. He didn't have much to say about each one's function, though he did say that combat revolves around parties of three, though in a...

'Kingdom Hearts 3Ds' To Enter New Disney Realms
Heroes Sora and Riku will return for Square Enix's "Kingdom Hearts 3Ds," but the series' director Tetsuya Nomura wants to take them into some new Disney-verse places for the title. Asked if the game would retread old paths, he kept quiet about which settings would show up, but he did tease that previously unseen parts of the Kingdom are currently being discussed.

"We plan to make all new Disney worlds," Nomura told Famitsu, as translated in a report on Siliconera. The pair's 3Ds journey will take them back to Traverse Town, but beyond that, Nomura's hoping to venture into unexplored scenes.

Depending on where they go, the game could potentially tie in directly with "Kingdom Hearts 3," though "Final Fantasy Versus Xiii" is still Mia on the market, so don't expect anything more on that front too soon.

"Perhaps, the ending of 'Kingdom Hearts 3Ds' will continue in 'Kingdom Hearts 3,'" Nomura suggested.

'Parasite Eve' Resurrecting On The Psn
If you played "Parasite Eve" in its first incarnation for PlayStation, you may find it a little sobering to realize that the game came out 12 years ago. Aged youngsters who've never seen a first-gen PlayStation are now old enough to play the M-rated horror RPG, though, and Square Enix designer Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that his company is going to give them the chance to download it and/or "Parasite Evil 2" for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable.

One or both of the first two "Parasite Eve" games will be coming to the PlayStation Network at some point, Nomura wrote on the Twitter account for the series' PSP-exclusive third installment, "The 3rd Birthday," according to some translation work in a report on Andriasang.

Square Enix is probably thinking along the same lines as Eat Sleep Play, whose aging "Twisted Metal" got tagged for the Psn by an Esrb listing. If there's...

'Kingdom Hearts' Creator Trekking Out To E3
"Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep" recently got an official launch date for September, along with some officially announced voice-acting talent in the form of Leonard Nimoy and Mark Hamill. Show up to wherever Square Enix may be talking about that game at E3 this year, though, and you very well may run into the franchise's creator Tetsuya Nomura, as he seems to have penciled a trip to Los Angeles into his June schedule.

"Next week, after a long time, Director Nomura will go on a business trip to E3," Square Enix senior vice president Shinji Hashimoto wrote via Twitter, according to a translation on Siliconera.

Nomura won't lack any timely and publicly known Kingdom Hearts topics to discuss with everyone he runs into at E3, but just the same, he may be worth keeping an eye on as he walks around to meetings and perhaps a podium or two. If...

Leonard Nimoy And Mark Hamill Lending Voices To 'Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep'
Square Enix committed to a release date and voice acting talent today with a hefty announcement about "Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep." The PlayStation Portable title will launch on September 7, 2010, and Mark Hamill, Willa Holland, Jesse McCartney, Leonard Nimoy and James Woods will all contribute their voices, though the big reveal didn't include which characters they'll be portraying. Woods would presumably be voicing Hades, which he's done before, and McCartney is listed on IMDb as portraying Ventus and Roxas, who he's voiced in previous games.

"The entire development team is extremely happy to announce the North American release date for 'Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep,'" the series' director Tetsuya Nomura said in a press release. "We hate to keep fans waiting, but we've added some brand-new features for the North American version, so even those who have been following the Japanese version are sure to find a few surprises.

'Kingdom Hearts 3' Release May Hinge On 'Final Fantasy Versus Xiii'
Long before Disney got brave with Junction Point and "Epic Mickey" to allow its characters to be portrayed in a non-traditional way, Square Enix broke ground with their "Kingdom Hearts" games. While "Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep" will finally make its way to North American PlayStation Portables this year, the full-on sequel "Kingdom Hearts 3" has remained just off of public radars. The game is in development, though the series' creator says "Final Fantasy Versus Xiii" could slow it up.

“About the next title, 'Kingdom Hearts 3' depends on 'Final Fantasy Xiii Versus,' but development of the next title is already underway," director Tetsuya Nomura said in a guidebook interview translated by HeartStation.org. "There are two titles other than 'Kingdom Hearts 3' in conception, and I think I’ll release one within this year."

Additionally, Nomura said he wants to see multiple main characters appear in "KH3," which unsurprisingly won't conclude the franchise.
