As drug lord Gabriel Cortez (Edward Noriega) races towards the Mexican border after a daring escape from the FBI, Sheriff Owens (Arnie) realises only he and a ragtag bunch of deputies in his sleepy border town can stop the villain from finding his freedom. You don't hear much about the laconic writer and actor Sam Shepard, otherwise known as Mr. Jessica Lange, much--other than the occasional play (Curse Of The Starving Class) and cameo. But that's about to change because Magnolia Pictures has just acquired the rights to Blackthorn, a Western starring Shepard that just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and will continue a run at Cannes.

Shepard stars as the iconic Butch Cassidy in his final days opposite Stephen Rea (Guinevere) and Edward Noriega, directed by Mateo Gil in his first English-language feature. In the film:

First Look Studios has acquired Filmax Group's lackluster Transsiberian (review), starring Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer and Ben Kingsley, and plans a late summer domestic release. The film also stars Kate Mara and Eduardo Noriega. It's directed by Brad Anderson (Session 9, The Machinist), who co-scripted with Will Conroy. The Sundance pic follows an American couple, played by Harrelson and Mortimer, in a chase of deception and murder on the Siberian train journey from China to Moscow.
