Ryan Reynolds' Rom-Com Mentioned in 'Deadpool & Wolverine' Is Climbing Global Streaming Charts
Image
In years gone by, Ryan Reynolds has cemented himself as a creative force with features like Deadpool trilogy, The Adams Project, Free Guy, and the likes. He has come a long way from his Green Lantern days and for good. Before he was heavily invested in sci-fi and superhero genre, the actor did a romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock, which has found new interest from fans as it's climbing the streaming charts.

The Proposal resurged in public zeitgeist recently as it found a mention in Deadpool and Wolverine as an attempt by Nicepool to break the fourth wall. Per FlixPatrol, the movie has now climbed the Disney+ charts to #9 spot, worldwide. Standing tall among franchises like animated Lilo & Stitch, live-action Mufasa: The Lion King, Snow White, Pixar’s Elemental, and more.

What’s ‘The Proposal’ About?

Before 'Twin Peaks,' Kyle MacLachlan Played a Dale Cooper Prototype
Image
FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper of Twin Peaks is one of the most iconic TV protagonists of all time. His distinctive appearance, mannerisms, and eccentric approach to investigating the murder of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) in the eponymous Washington town are all part of why "Coop" is arguably the most famous role of actor Kyle MacLachlan's career. But, even before the show premiered on ABC in 1990, traces of the character of Dale Cooper could be seen in some of MacLachlan's film roles. For instance, both MacLachlan (New York Times) and Twin Peaks co-creator David Lynch (LA Times) have described Cooper as an older version of Jeffrey Beaumont, the protagonist played by MacLachlan in the 1986 film Blue Velvet, which Lynch directed.

But, one year after Blue Velvet, MacLachlan played another character who arguably bears an even greater resemblance to Cooper — one whom Lynch had nothing to do with. That would be Lloyd Gallagher,...

Jerry Seinfeld And Larry David Had A Cameo In A Doomed Sitcom
Image
Season 5 was when it all came together for "Seinfeld." It was no longer a cult sitcom that couldn't crack the Nielsen ratings' top 20, but an appointment-viewing smash that finished third for the year overall. The following year, it would become the number one show on the air.

Why did it take so long for "Seinfeld" to break through to the mainstream? For starters, it truly lived up to its reputation as a show about nothing. While we now look at the season 2 episode "The Chinese Restaurant" as one of the greatest sitcom episodes ever, NBC executives sought to bury it because they thought an entire story built around the main characters waiting for a table was too slim of a narrative to appeal to viewers. When your network doesn't believe in your show, it's hard to build an audience.

"Seinfeld" needed to get traction in the popular culture, which shouldn't...

Actresses Who Were Almost Cast As Star Trek's Beverly Crusher Before Gates McFadden
Image
Cheryl Gates McFadden was a dancer before she was an actress. She studied theater in college (she has a Bachelor of Arts degree) and lived in Paris for a spell, performing with the celebrated movement coach Jacques Lecoq. In New York in the 1970s, she taught dance at various colleges, and formed her own theater troupes and comedy companies. In the 1980s, she landed a few high-profile gigs serving as a choreographer and movement coach on "The Muppets Take Manhattan" and "Labyrinth." She can be seen giving her commentary in a making-of documentary on the "Labyrinth" DVD.

McFadden, however, exploded in popularity in 1987 when she was selected to play Dr. Beverly Crusher, the chief medical officer on board the USS Enterprise on "Star Trek: The Next Generation." McFadden (who was just going by Gates back then) didn't get to do much dancing on "Star Trek," but she was given a mature,...

Long-Lost '90s 'Captain America' Movie Director's Cut Finally Found
Image
A long-lost Marvel movie has finally been found. While the MCU has now brought the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America to a much wider audience, these were far from the first efforts to bring these beloved characters to the screen in live-action. After several made-for-tv movies, director Albert Pyun was given the reins to Captain America in 1990 but, sadly, the movie was mauled by those who saw it, and currently stands at just 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the Marvel outing has since garnered something of a cult following, and now, various reports on social media have revealed that a myth surrounding the movie is indeed true: a director’s cut exists, and it has been found.

Directed by Albert Pyun, the late filmmaker known for low-budget, high-concept genre fare, and written by Stephen Tolkin, 1990’s Captain America stars Matt Salinger in the title role alongside Ronny Cox,...

David Cronenberg Refused to Direct 'Flashdance' When Asked by Jerry Bruckheimer
Image
Sometimes directors lament over the projects they never got to make, but David Cronenberg - best known for body horror classics The Fly, Videodrome, and Scanners - revealed a film producers desperately wanted him to make, but which he knowingly and proudly turned down, not because he didn't like the script but because he knew he just wasn't the right man for the job.

The film in question? Flashdance, the 1983 feel-good romantic dance drama about a young woman (Jennifer Beals) making ends meet as a welder and an exotic dancer who dreams of joining a prestigious ballet academy. It's an odd pairing to be sure, but as Cronenberg told Variety at the Marrakech Film Festival, the production team of Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer pursued the director relentlessly. He said:

"You might be amazed [they] were totally convinced that I was the right one to direct. Really, I don’t know...

Ryan Reynolds' The Proposal is Now a Streaming Hit on Disney+
Image
After being mostly unheard of for years, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullocks 2009 rom-com The Proposal is suddenly a hit on Disney+s global chart. Although the title has been available across multiple platforms which in the U.S. include Hulu, Freevee, Prime Video and several others in many countries, the film has been getting a helpful push by Disney+ for one reason; to catch the wave of attention Reynolds is about to generate on the platform with Deadpool & Wolverines imminent arrival.

For those who saw Deadpool & Wolverine in cinemas, or on PVOD services, you will remember that The Proposal received a hilarious name-check by that lovely version of Deadpool with the long, flowing hair and the mushy and nice personality right before he was brutally slaughtered - oh, sorry Peanut, spoilers. The same joke also made fun of the self-referencing fourth wall breaking humor that the Marvel motor mouth has become known for,...

NCIS' New Spinoff Can Finally Return This 1 Character To The Franchise After 19 Years
Image
NCIS: Origins is the first spinoff to potentially bring back Kate Todd, a deceased NCIS character, due to its setting in the past. Kate Todd experienced a shocking death in NCIS season 2, marking the end of her character's presence in the NCIS universe. Kate Todd's appearance in NCIS: Origins could offer a glimpse into her life before her tragic death, potentially interacting with a younger Gibbs.

A new spinoff from NCIS can finally bring back a character who hasn't been able to appear in the NCIS universe in 19 years. Some characters are brought back to the franchise long after they depart, like when Anthony Dinozzo actor Michael Weatherly surprisingly returned in NCIS season 21. Characters can also return to the NCIS universe in other spinoff shows, like when LL Cool J's Sam Hanna joined the cast of NCIS: Hawai'i after his home series, NCIS: Los Angeles, was canceled in 2023.

Andrew Cunanan True Story Explained (& What The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story Left Out)
Image
Andrew Cunanan had a tragic childhood, witnessing his father's abuse and experiencing financial ruin. Cunanan was highly intelligent, even memorizing an entire encyclopedia set, but struggled with fitting in with wealthier peers. Cunanan's ultimate motive for killing Gianni Versace was jealousy, as he coveted Versace's wealth, fame, and acceptance as a gay celebrity.

Following the release and success of 2018's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, many are wondering what the true story of the infamous spree killer, Andrew Cunanan, actually is and what information the show left out. Created by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, American Crime Story is a Ryan Murphy-produced true crime anthology series in which each season focuses on a different true crime event with a new set of characters. Flashdance Star Jennifer Beals Reveals That Her Iconic Look Was Accidental
Image
Flashdance not only left its mark on cinema, but also on 80s fashion, unintentionally creating a legendary look with Jennifer Beals' cutoff sweatshirt. The iconic film is now set to be adapted into a television series, led by Dear White People creator Justin Simien, bringing the story into the modern era. Simien's successful track record and storytelling ability make him a great choice to revive Flashdance, adding to Paramount+'s lineup of classic reboots.

Flashdance not only marked an era for cinema, but also for fashion, exposing the best of 80s clothing. However, it seems that one of its protagonist's most characteristic looks was, in fact, an accident. Released in 1983, the film directed by Adrian Lyne is considered a classic of the 80s. ‘Flashdance’ Turns 40: Stars, Producer Reflect on Nixed Nudity, Mixed Reviews and Trendsetting Fashion
Image
The makers of Flashdance hoped for a hit, but no one had a feeling it would become a generation-defining sensation.

The Paramount film marked the first collaboration of producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, later known for blockbusters like Beverly Hills Cop and Top Gun. With a script co-written by Joe Eszterhas (Basic Instinct), Flashdance centered on Alex, a teenage welder in Pittsburgh who spends her nights performing at a cabaret bar but dreams of becoming a professional dancer.

Bruckheimer remembers the film’s team struggling to choose the lead, but that director Adrian Lyne was sold on newcomer Jennifer Beals. “The bosses at Paramount couldn’t make up their minds, so they brought all the secretaries in to view the screen tests, and they all picked Jennifer,” Bruckheimer tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Among the performers in the mix for the male lead of Nick, the steel mill owner who falls for employee Alex,...

How The Watcher Has Already Set Up Season 2
Image
Although based on a real-life story, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's The Watcher manages to conjure a world of its own, full of interesting characters and possible suspects. Throughout the course of Season 1, The Watcher explores the possibility of multiple individuals being the Watcher. From the retired English professor Roger Kaplan (Michael Nouri) to the former occupant of the house, Andrew (Seth Gabel), all remain possible suspects, based on circumstantial evidence. Importantly, Season 1 of The Watcher ends with Dean (Bobby Cannavale) and Nora (Naomi Watts) moving out of Boulevard 657, but the move doesn't ensure that the new occupants will not be haunted by the letters of the Watcher. Along with the identity of the Watcher, the showmakers have also left some other unanswered questions open for speculation. With Netflix renewing The Watcher for Season 2, there are many angles to explore in what could be another thrilling season.

As the trailer continues, the music gets more ominous and the characters become more frantic.

Cannavale’s character says he moved his family so that they could feel “safe,” but now they’re fearing for their lives. While they’re advised to get out as soon as they can, Watts...

Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale Regret Their Dream Home Purchase in Unsettling ‘The Watcher’ Trailer
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Ryan Murphy has officially listed his next house — another one that comes with chilling baggage.

The American Horror Story creator, whose FX anthology was centered around a haunted home, has dropped a trailer for his next Netflix series, The Watcher, which is about a home, and a family, that is being stalked to sinister degree. The series releases Oct. 13.

The limited series, which notes that it’s based on the shocking true story of the infamous “Watcher” house in New Jersey, stars Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale, a married couple who move their family into a new suburban home. The trailer, however, shows that everyone around them, particularly the anonymous “watcher” of their home, knows they have bought more than they bargained for.

“Do you know the history of the house? I’ve been put in charge of watching you. This message will not be the last.

Ryan Murphy at an event for Eat Pray Love (2010)
The Watcher: Jennifer Coolidge Hosts Open House Tour to Promote New Netflix Drama
Ryan Murphy at an event for Eat Pray Love (2010)
Promoting a TV show when there are countless offerings out there is tough.

Netflix is taking a different approach for Ryan Murphy's limited series The Watcher, which is on track for a fall launch.

The streaming service released a clip of Jennifer Coolidge in character as realtor Karen Calhoun.

The intent?

To sell the house that serves as the setting for the show.

It's a decent method of promotion.

Coolidge has had some iconic roles throughout her career, and we're sure Karen will be another quote-worthy addition to her resume.

"Dean (Bobby Cannavale) and Nora Brannock (Naomi Watts) just purchased their dream home in the idyllic suburb of Westfield, New Jersey, but after putting all of their savings into closing the deal, they soon realize the neighborhood is less than welcoming," the logline teases.

"There’s a kooky older woman named Pearl (Mia Farrow) and her brother Jasper (Terry Kinney...

‘The Watcher’ Limited Series Trailer: A Dream Home Turns Into a Nightmare
Image
The trailer for Netflix’s The Watcher limited series plays like a walk-through of a house for sale, with Jennifer Coolidge starring as the realtor who guides interested buyers through their potential new digs. The limited series is based on the true story of a family who purchased 657 Boulevard, Westfield, New Jersey and were immediately targeted with creepy letters signed by “The Watcher.”

Netflix’s campaign for the series includes an actual listing of the residence on Zillow. The listing is by Karen Calhoun (Coolidge) and features photos, a detailed description of the home, and the series’ walk-through trailer.

The limited series’ cast includes Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Mia Farrow, Margo Martindale, and Terry Kinney. Joe Mantello, Richard Kind, Noma Dumezweni, Christopher McDonald, Michael Nouri, Isabel Gravitt, Henry Hunter Hall, and Luke David Blumm also star.

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan created The Watcher and executive produce along with Alexis Martin Woodall,...

‘The Watcher’ Teaser: Jennifer Coolidge Can’t Wait To Sell You A Home In Ryan Murphy’s Limited Series
Image
Netflix has unveiled an unconventional teaser for Ryan Murphy’s upcoming limited series The Watcher. It’s also the streamer’s first official confirmation of the series.

The White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge hosts a three-minute “open house” video as realtor Karen Calhoun.

“Hi, I’m Karen Calhoun from Darren Dunn Realty,” says Coolidge at the opening of the teaser. “This is 657 Boulevard,” she continues, “and this is my listing.”

“Are you ready?, your dream home awaits,” she adds.

The teaser could pass for a legit open house tour, except for a couple of things that are a bit telling — such as when Karen suggests you could fit an entire body in the home’s dumbwaiter, and when she fears opening the bedroom curtains because of “weird neighbors” who might be peering in.

Co-created by Murphy and Ian Brennan, the series, starring Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale,...

Jennifer Coolidge Is Selling a Fake Luxury Home in Promo for Netflix’s Series ‘The Watcher’ (Video)
Image
Jennifer Coolidge is a woman of many talents, including, apparently, selling homes. Netflix introduced us to her latest character, real estate agent Karen Calhoun, in a clip Friday promoting Ryan Murphy’s new series, “The Watcher.”

In the video, Coolidge shows off 657 Boulevard, the infamous New York house from the new limited series. “The Watcher” is based on a story written for New York Magazine and follows a family who were ultimately threatened to leave their newly bought mansion after a mysterious stalker began sending them letters in the mail.

Coolidge gives a tour of the property in painstaking detail, as any luxury real estate agent would, highlighting the best features in the house — including the fifth bathroom, which was thrown in “just for fun.”

“There is nothing like this in the world,” she says as she twirls through one of the rooms. And of course, she had to show off the fully intact dumbwaiter,...

‘Yellowstone’ Season 4 Premiere: A Surprise Death, And A Tease With Tim McGraw As Dutton Patriarch In Prequel ‘1883’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of Sunday night’s Season 4 premiere of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone.

The close of Season 4 of Paramount’s wildly popular Yellowstone left major questions about the viability of the Dutton Clan and their sprawling ranch. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) was shot up and left for dead by a roadside, as a slug hitting the cell phone in his shirt pocket was the only thing that kept his heart beating; daughter Beth (Kelly Reilly) was cleaning out her office after being fired when the windows shattered onto the street after her assistant opened a box with a bomb packed in it. And Kayce (Luke Grimes) was last seen overturning his desk and returning fire as gunmen sprayed automatic weapon fire in his direction.

And the list of suspects was great: Could it have been black sheep son Jamie at the prodding of his murderous biological...

Patrick Dempsey and Alessandro Borghi in Devils (2020)
Devils Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Falling In Deeper
Patrick Dempsey and Alessandro Borghi in Devils (2020)
The more Massimo digs, the more trouble he gets into.

Tearing into Edward's documents that Sofia had stolen from the police revealed to Massimo the hole which he's in on Devils Season 1 Episode 7.

Any idea that Dominic felt sentimental about Massimo was swept aside, as Dominic's global strategy was uncovered by Massimo.

Not that what Dominic was planning was entirely clear, like much of the financial shenanigans on Devils. That's frustrating, but it would be difficult to fit much explanation into the narrative.

So let's leave it at, "You don't want to know how the sausage is made." That's the world economy in a nutshell: kielbasa.

The overview is that Dominic wanted to ruin the Euro in the hopes of strengthening the dollar, which was hard to do when the United States was still recovering from the Great Recession.

And Massimo was unknowingly involved with this plot since Dominic used...

Let’s Scare Bryan to Death: The Hidden (1987) with Tarik Davis
Image
Welcome back to Let’s Scare Bryan to Death! Joining us this month is Tarik Davis, a writer and actor whose work stretches across media platforms, from film and television to online content and even stage productions. He’s currently featured on Peacock’s The Amber Ruffin Show, where his horror sensibilities can’t help but peek through from time to time. Horror fans should also check him out in the short film Page One, the Stakes is High essay series that he wrote to explore hate and fascism through the lens of vampire films, and his video "Your 21st Century Woke Horror Host: Addison Hadley."

Given Davis’ eclectic mix of horror and sci-fi inspirations, I was excited when he recommended Jack Sholder’s 1987 film, The Hidden. I’ve had The Hidden on my radar ever since I heard it described as a better version of Jason Goes to Hell,...

Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 20 Review: He puhe'e miki (A gripping cuttlefish)
Scott Caan, Chi McBride, Meaghan Rath, Ian Anthony Dale, Alex O'Loughlin, and Beulah Koale in Hawaii Five-0 (2010)
A fan favorite returned one last time, seeking help from the task force.

Also, most of the team struck a blow for tourism on Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 20.

But first, couldn't Tani and Junior make it more than three episodes as a couple without getting into a tiff?

After three years as her partner, Junior didn't know that Tani was high maintenance?

He got up early and laid out a scrumptious breakfast spread, and she said they were moving too fast?

Seriously? It's the most important meal of the day.

At least Tani knew she'd screwed up and admitted as much to Hirsch because, well, he was available.

And he was surprisingly common-sensical in his advice to her, telling her that these kind of tiffs were going to happen in any new relationship.

Likewise, Grover recognized that Junior wasn't his usual stolid self after they questioned the wife of the carjacking victim.
