Emma Thompson has shared the story of the time Donald Trump asked her out the same day her divorce from ex-husband Kenneth Branagh was made official on multiple occasions. However, while speaking at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland this weekend, she added onto the anecdote, joking that she could have “changed the course of American history” had she accepted.
Thompson recalled being in her trailer on the set of 1998’s “Primary Colors” when she received an unexpected phone call. The caller identified himself as Trump.
“I thought it was a joke and asked, ‘How can I help you?’ Maybe he needed directions from someone,” Thompson explained. “Then he said: ‘I’d love you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places. Maybe we could have dinner.’”
The Oscar winner wasn’t exactly enthused. She replied, “Well, that’s very sweet. Thank you so much. I’ll get back to you.

Exclusive: Streaming executives will not face their traditional grilling at the Edinburgh TV Festival Spotlight sessions this year.
The full line-up for this year’s annual gathering of the great-and-the-good of the UK TV industry is now public but Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) Spotlight sessions do not feature.
Spotlight sessions, which used to be called Controller Sessions, see UK commissioners take to the stage for an hour or so to talk upcoming content, strategy and – sometimes – take tricky questions from the audience of press and producers. They tend to also use the opportunity to unveil splashy new shows. The Spotlights have been a feature of the Edinburgh TV Fest for 50 years with British broadcasters taking part annually. As they burrowed deeper into the UK industry, streamers had begun hosting Spotlights in recent years.
Deadline is told that the streamer spotlights are on temporary hiatus and will be back next year.

One of the best moments in Doctor Who was ruined by the BBC during its first airing fifteen years ago in 2010. The series five episode ‘The Time of Angels’ starred Matt Smith and was written by Steven Moffat, after he took over as the showrunner from Russell T. Davies. The broadcast error reportedly resulted in over 5,000 complaints from audiences to the BBC.
The episode saw Matt Smith’s Doctor deal with a swarm of Weeping Angels ready to attack his companions. During an emotional monologue that was incredibly performed by Smith, an ad banner with an animated Graham Norton appeared smack in the middle, angering many viewers. Norton’s appearance was reportedly to promote the show Over the Rainbow.

Chris Pratt’s breakout role as a lead actor was the goofy and lovable Andy Dwyer in the mockumentary sitcom Parks and Recreation. Pratt then went on to become a Hollywood mainstream hero with his role as Peter Quill / Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. James Gunn sought an actor who could handle both action and silly humor, and Pratt was the perfect fit for the role.
Over the years, Pratt proved that comedy comes to him so effortlessly. We have heard stories from those who worked with the actor about his spontaneous improvisations. As fans of the actor, we have also seen him unleash his superb sense of humor during promotional appearances and interviews. Here are the best off-screen moments of the actor.

Tom Holland Talks About Zendaya Catching Him (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Tom Holland didn’t just swing through the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Peter Parker—he also shared behind-the-scenes gems that fans couldn’t get enough of. During the press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home, the actor revealed two hilarious secrets: one involved getting his brother cast (and later cut), and the other featured his co-star—and real-life girlfriend—Zendaya literally catching him during a stunt.
Tom Roped In His Brother for a Cameo… Then Marvel Cut Him Out
Let’s start with the cut cameo. Holland had proudly secured his brother Harry a role in No Way Home as a street thief who gets caught by Spider-Man. A stunt-heavy gig, no doubt. As Tom told The Graham Norton Show, it all started after he came home exhausted and complained about hanging upside down all day. His brother wasn’t having it.

When Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country hit theaters in 1991, fans of George Takei and his character, the venerable Hikaru Sulu, thrilled to the sight of him with a captain’s rank and command of the USS Excelsior.
As events of the film unfold, Uhura and Chekov refuse to leave the imprisoned Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy on Rura Penthe and send a false report to Starfleet that Enterprise’s backup systems have failed. Starfleet sends a message to Captain Sulu, and the appearance of the communications officer who delivers this message probably made more than one moviegoer blink in surprise! Was that...?
Yes! The unnamed officer was, in fact, Christian Slater!
How Slater got his cameo
Slater, of course, was no stranger to the big screen by the time he received his much-coveted Star Trek cameo. He’d starred in a variety of movies like Gleaming the Cube, Heathers,...

Stanley Tucci has donned a lot of personalities and stepped into the shoes of many characters over the years, putting his brilliance as an actor on full display. This also includes him playing a gay character in the 2006 comedy-drama masterpiece The Devil Wears Prada, despite being a straight man himself, and doing an absolutely remarkable job at that.
But the surprising part is that even though he went on to prove that he could bring that character to life exceptionally, Tucci wasn’t the original choice for the role. In fact, if anything, he might as well have been the last remaining option to cast in Meryl Streep’s $326 million flick, as he himself confessed, for his role was one that even Graham Noton auditioned for!

Doctor Who Season 2 has, without doubt, been the best season of the sci-fi series since Steven Moffat's tenure as showrunner ended in 2017. Russell T. Davies' second full season on his return to the show's helm, Season 2 is the current incarnation of the titular Time Lord, Ncuti Gatwa's second run as The Doctor, this time joined by a brand-new companion, Belinda (Varada Sethu). In just five episodes so far, headlined by the genius "Midnight" follow-up, "The Well," Davies has proven he still has the ability to write engaging and thoughtful Doctor Who after many were left disappointed with 2024's Season 1.
However, there are still three episodes remaining, with it expected that the season's many mysteries, including the identity of Anita Dobson's Mrs. Flood and the whereabouts of Earth, will begin to get answers in the coming Saturday's episode, "The Interstellar Song Contest." Based upon the singing competition phenomenon,...

Hosted by The Traitors star Alan Cumming, who appeared on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet on singer-songwriter Jessie J’s arm, the 2025 ceremony — which took place in sparkling spring sunshine on the banks of the River Thames at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday — featured an array of television, film, musical and theatrical stars in attendance.
Notable guests (and winners) included Marisa Abela, who received Best Leading Actress for HBO/BBC series Industry, and Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning, who capped off a likely historic TV awards sweep as she clinched the Best Supporting Actress category.
While the prizes of the night were fairly evenly shared, ITV’s Mr Bates vs The Post Office swept the evening — an unsurprising feat given how it dominated U.K. ratings last year and fueled a national conversation about the gross miscarriage of justice in which hundreds of innocent British postmasters were convicted of theft,...

Mr Bates vs. the Post Office pulled off a victory over Netflix's Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday. The ITV drama that dominated U.K. ratings last year tells the story of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud, and false accounting due to a defective It system.
However, it wasn't all bad news for Baby Reindeer. Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Jessica Gunning continued her impressive awards streak, scoring Best Supporting Actress, and bringing the limited series’ total to three wins, including writing and directing victories from the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 27.
Lennie James beat out the likes of Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer) and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) to win Best Actor for Mr Loverman, in which he plays an exuberant, closeted family man who wants to end his marriage and live with his best friend.

Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa will have the job of announcing the British jury’s points at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The Guardian newspaper reports that Gatwa, who is currently starring as the 15th Doctor in the BBC’s long-running sci-fi drama, will follow in the footsteps of previous stars including Joanna Lumley, Nigella Lawson and Doctor Who alumna Catherine Tate.
Gatwa’s job on the night of the Eurovision Grand Final, to take place in Switzerland on Saturday May 17, comes alongside a special Eurovision-themed episode of Doctor Who airing on the same day, called ‘Interstellar Song Contest’ – where the Doctor visits a galaxy-wide singing competition.
BBC Eurovision presenters Graham Norton and Rylan will also appear in the special episode.
Dr Who showrunner Russell T Davies said in a statement:
“There’s no song contest without the great man himself. It was an honour to welcome Graham Norton to our studios in Cardiff.

Britain goes wild for the Eurovision Song Contest every year, and it also goes wild for Doctor Who. So what better idea than to combine the two?
Ncuti Gatwa will be appearing on British TV not once but twice on Eurovision night.First, he'll be starring in the show's first ever Eurovision-themed episode, titled "The Interstellar Song Contest," and then he'll pop up as Britain's spokesman once the real song contest gets underway. He'll be listing off the points that Britain is giving to other countries in the hotly (and hilariously) contested fight to be Eurovision champion.

We all love watching spectacular action sequences and death-defying stunts on the big screen, don’t we? There’s something undeniably thrilling about seeing our favorite stars perform seemingly impossible feats of physical prowess. While many actors wisely leave the dangerous stuff to professional stunt performers, some brave—or perhaps foolhardy—celbrities insist on doing their own stunt work.
It’s admirable, sure, but this dedication to authenticity often comes with a painful price tag that can halt production, cause lasting damage, and in some cases, nearly end lives. The injuries these actors sustain aren’t just minor bumps and bruises either—we’re talking broken bones, torn ligaments, and even brain injuries.
Yet somehow, these dedicated performers push through the pain to complete their films, showing a level of commitment that goes far beyond what most jobs would ever require. Here are 10 actors who performed their own stunts and...

Today, it has been officially confirmed that the one and only Graham Norton is part of the upcoming Season 2 cast, aptly set to feature in the upcoming season's sixth episode, "The Interstellar Song Contest." A parody of the beloved Eurovision Song Contest, which will air once again on the same night as this sixth episode, "The Interstellar Song Contest" will also feature another favorite host from across the pond, Rylan Clark.
Speaking about Norton's exciting addition to Season 2, showrunner Russell T. Davies said, "There’s no song contest without the great man himself, and it was an honour to welcome Graham Norton to our studios in Cardiff. And it’s not just a cameo, he has a whole plot twist all to himself!

Who would have thought Ant-Man would play a role in making Titanic one of the greatest films of all time? That’s right, Paul Rudd had a direct influence on Leonardo DiCaprio by helping him decide whether he should go for the James Cameron film. Titanic went down in history as one of the greatest films to hit the theater.
