Nicolas Cage's latest horror movie, Arcadian, is available to stream, but is it actually worth watching? Cage has steadily acted in some strong horror films in the past several years, and Arcadian is another solid entry in that line-up. Premiering at South by Southwest in March 2024, Arcadian revolves around a family of three that is trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monsters. The movie was written by Michael Nilon and directed by Benjamin Brewer, who was a visual effects artist on Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Alongside Nicolas Cage, the film stars Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins as his teenage sons. Sadie Soverall rounds out the main cast of the film. Arcadian helps Nicolas Cage continue his critical win streak, but ultimately, is Arcadian actually worth watching?

It’s not often that Michael Strahan is speechless during Good Morning America, but a recent guest had him unsure how to react.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer was at a loss for words on the show recently as he and his colleagues interviewed Garcelle Beauvais.
Garcelle is among the stars of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and put Michael in the hot seat during the segment.
“Will we see your love life play out on the show? Because you definitely are protective of yourself,” GMA’s Lara Spencer asked Garcelle during the interview.
“Yeah, I mean, listen, you have to show as much as you can, and it’s hard to find someone who’s gonna fit that mold,” Garcelle said.
“So Michael, next season, will you come on?” she asked him as he became visibly nervous.

When we first see Paul (Nicolas Cage) in Ben Brewer’s Arcadian, he’s roaming rubble-filled streets while alarms blare. We don’t understand what’s happening, but it’s clear things have gone horribly wrong. Fifteen years later, we see Paul and his twin sons living peacefully, but there’s a stifling quiet that permeates the air. Something isn’t right.
Michael Nilon’s script immerses you in its world and avoids the typical post-apocalyptic cliché of expository newsreels explaining whatever outbreak turned the world on its head. This lack of explanation is a welcome touch — after all, if the world suddenly plunged into chaos and technology was no more, how would you ever figure out exactly what happened?
The creatures prove more than creepy.

Written by Michael Nilon and directed by Benjamin Brewer, this terrifying post-apocalyptic horror thriller premiered at South by Southwest this past March. It stars Nicolas Cage, Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins and Sadie Soverall.
In a near future where earth has been decimated by an undisclosed catastrophe, Paul (Cage) barely escapes alive from the city alongside his infant twin boys. Years later, Paul and his teenage sons Joseph (Martell) and Thomas (Jenkins) are living in a remote farmhouse miles away from their nearest neighbours at Rose Farm. During the day, the boys and their father work the land and gather provisions, but at night the threesome are under siege from killer creatures that roam the land.
The trio’s quotidian life of humdrum chores and trying to survive each night at a time, is thrown into chaos when Thomas, the more rebellious of the two brothers, fails to return before nightfall one evening.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Arcadian
Paul sacrifices himself to save his sons, showcasing the theme of familial bonds and survival. Arcadian's creatures evolve and plan to eradicate humanity, setting up a potential sequel. Thomas, Joseph, and Charlotte decide to leave their homes, hinting at a new journey and potential alliances.
Arcadian’s ending leaves the door open for more should director Mike Nilon and writer Benjamin Brewer wish to return to the world they built. Starring Nicolas Cage in a performance that is a bit less meaty than some of his other films, Arcadian’s movie reviews were mostly positive. The action horror’s ending sees Cage’s Paul still recovering from the creature’s attack, forcing his sons, Thomas and Joseph, to fend for themselves. Arcadian is a post-apocalyptic horror film with Nicolas Cage as a father fighting monsters with his sons in a chaotic world. The film explores themes of love, family, and survival amid grotesque creatures in a devastated Earth setting. Director Ben Brewer and writer Mike Nilon discuss the genesis of the film during the Covid-19 pandemic and its unique storytelling approach.
Evil reigns in the post-apocalyptic horror of Arcadian, which made its debut at the 2024 South By Southwest Festival. While grotesque monsters fight to topple humans from the top of the food chain, a man and his two sons fight to keep their family together in a world they no longer recognize. Nicolas Cage is the father to Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins, and Sadie Soverall is their mysterious neighbor in this film about love, family, and the struggle to survive amid chaos and horror. Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Scott Thompson on Wbgr-fm on April 10th, 2024, reviewing “Arcadian,” a new horror film set during a post apocalyptic event, featuring Nicolas Cage. In theaters on April 12th.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Nicolas Cage is a Dad named Paul in this post apocalyptic world. The invasion that is leading to the destruction of the humanity is a highly mutant race of aliens that are born under the earth and attack the above ground habitants from within that position. This affects the twin boys Joseph and Thomas (Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins) and they are reluctant survivalists, with Joseph being particularly jealous of a bunkered and wealthier family down the road, where the lovely teenage Charlotte (Sadie Soverall) resides. Can the few survivors continue to exist in such a world?
“Arcadian” is in theaters on April 12th. Featuring Nicolas Cage, Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins and Sadie Soverall.

Benjamin Brewer’s Arcadian runs on the sort of day/night mechanic found in many survival video games. When the sun is up, it’s an intimate family drama featuring a trio of strong performances and a script that never says more than it has to. And when the sun goes down, it turns into a strikingly effective creature feature, starring some of the most inventively designed and viscerally realized monsters to scuttle across the screen in some time.
Arcadian takes place in a patch of idyllic countryside that lives up to the film’s title. Paul (Nicolas Cage) and his twin sons, Joseph (Jaeden Martell) and Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins), live in a farmhouse surrounded by rolling green hills. It’s an inviting, peaceful place, but as sundown approaches, Paul anxiously corrals his boys back into the farmhouse and the three of them reinforce every door and window with hefty wooden shutters.

Arcadian Review: Nicolas Cage Leads Satisfying Horror Thriller That Could've Used More Worldbuilding
Arcadian's eerie creatures are creatively unsettling, raising the bar for horror elements. The film lacks detailed worldbuilding, impacting character dynamics and tension levels. Despite some character and worldbuilding flaws, Arcadian delivers gripping horror and suspense.
Director Benjamin Brewer’s apocalyptic action thriller, Arcadian, is intense. It’s the kind of horror that will actually make you jump or, as the audience did during its SXSW Film & TV Festival premiere, gasp. The film features a small, but crucial role for Nicolas Cage, whose opening scene, featuring him running to get to his infant sons, sets the tone for what's to come in the story. Arcadian may falter in its story details, building some character tension that is never fully fleshed out, but it succeeds in creating a gripping, tense experience that is elevated by its disturbing creatures.

One of the most memorable horror blockbusters in recent memory was director John Krasinski's "A Quiet Place." It remains impressive that the guy who played Jim on "The Office" crafted such a refreshing film (with lots of help from screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods) that has spawned an entire franchise. What tends to happen in the realm of horror is that a string of imitators will follow any major success. Well, the time has finally come as "Arcadian" has unquestionably taken more than a little inspiration from Krasinski's 2018 thriller. That said, this is far more than just a cheap imitation. Moreover, it serves as a showcase for one of our most compelling living actors: Nicolas Cage.
"Arcadian" recently screened at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and I was lucky enough to catch the film. Directed by Benjamin Brewer ("The Trust") and written by Michael Nilon ("Braven"), it's certainly not...

In Benjamin Brewer’s Arcadian, the Earth’s soundscape is full of signs. The rustling leaves and frenetic bird calls are the noises of daylight’s safety, whereas the stillness of the night warns of threats. Brewer’s film harnesses the uneasy tension of a post-apocalyptic reality where no one knows what happened at the end of the world.
Premiering at SXSW, Arcadian observes Paul (Nicolas Cage) and his two sons, Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins) and Joseph (Jaeden Martell), navigating life in a recognizable but quieter version of Earth. Their routines rarely vary. In the morning, they forage around the forest for wood; salvage scrapes from ruined ships in abandoned ports; and run other errands around the house. At night, they say a prayer over dinner and check the locks. A cracked window or a door left ajar is an invitation for the monsters — impressively designed creatures with black veiny flesh...

“I wanted to experiment: can I develop a family which was not unlike my own upbringing?” says Nicolas Cage, while talking to Den of Geek about his new movie Arcadian, which premiered at SXSW 2024. “My dad did most of the heavy lifting, he did the raising because my mom sadly couldn’t be around. So it was just my father, and in this case, myself and my older brother. I saw that family dynamic in the [Elia] Kazan picture, East of Eden.”
From that description, you might imagine Arcadian to be an austere drama, something that takes place in a rustic farm house and focuses on the complex relationship between a father struggling to do right by his two boys. And you’d mostly be right… mostly.
But then Cage completes his thought. “And then I thought, well, wouldn’t it be interesting if this little family nucleus was contending with...

Here's my pitch to sell you on director Benjamin Brewer's Arcadian: it's A Quiet Place but with Nicolas Cage and better creature elements. The last part came as a huge shocker. Writer Michael Nilon sets the stage for an eerily familiar doomsday scenario that feels like Gareth Edwards' Monsters at first but quickly finds its roots as a sibling to John Krasinski's alien invasion franchise. Arcadian does take a bit to reach its full momentum, not as dynamically engaging as a survivalist drama, but once the monsters reveal themselves? Brewer executes what could be a knockout audition to direct the next A Quiet Place sequel, should there be more on the horizon.
We first meet Cage's protagonist, Paul, fleeing a metropolitan city under state-of-emergency sirens. Military rockets are fired towards an invisible foe as Paul escapes the crumbling architecture, eventually retreating to a homestead in farmland...

While Nicolas Cage gets a proper hero’s moment or two in director Benjamin Brewer and writer/producer Mike Nilon’s Arcadian, the post-apocalyptic creature feature belongs to its young stars. Playing like a cross between a poignant coming-of-age story and intense survival horror, Arcadian does just enough to set itself apart from similar fare. However, its ultimate appeal and magic lie in the inventive monster designs and the thrilling action set pieces they inspire.
For fifteen years since an unexplained global event decimated the population, Paul (Nicolas Cage) has raised his two sons, Joseph and Thomas, to keep constant vigilance as they maintain their isolated, fortified farm. The family unit spends their days preparing for nightfall; they face unrelenting attacks every night from a mysterious, lethal threat. When Thomas doesn’t return home before dusk one day, Paul leaves the safety of the farm to find him.

Arcadian director Benjamin Brewer, along with writer Mike Nilon, attempt to navigate the tumultuous waters of a post-apocalyptic narrative, showcasing a world decimated by an unspecified catastrophic event. Starring Nicolas Cage along with Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins, the film plunges into the life of a family striving to survive in a desolate landscape fraught with nocturnal terrors. Despite a cast that promises gravitas and the tantalizing premise of a stark, survivalist drama, the film ultimately fumbles, delivering a disorienting experience that fails to terrify.
The film opens on a note of chaos, as viewers are thrust into a world already in ruins, with the storyline hinging on the familial bond and survival tactics of Paul (Cage) and his sons. In this barren world destroyed by an unknown catastrophe, the remnants of humanity cling to life. Among the survivors are Paul and his two young sons, Joseph (Martell) and Thomas...

Last month, “bot” attacks against Garcelle’s son were headline news, with some accusing Diana Jenkins and Lisa Rinna, or hiring the accounts to insult the 14-year-old. Bravo eventually released a statement that was echoed by numerous Bravolebrities,...
