The movie, which initially premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) in March 2024, followed by a wide release in April, will land on Hulu on Jan. 24 this year. At the time of its premiere, the movie received mostly positive reviews, praising the film as a solid entry in Cage's extensive filmography. Now, Arcadian will be added to the handful of Nicolas Cage films already available on the streaming service.

A highly entertaining Nicolas Cage movie came and went in theaters last year, failing to capture the attention that it deserved. Now, it's getting another chance to find an audience with its move to a new streaming home.

On Jan. 24, Cage's Arcadian will debut on the streaming platform Hulu. After first premiering at South by Southwest last year, the film had its wider release in theaters in April 2024. It earned less than $1 million before later getting a streaming release on Shudder and AMC+. It will soon be seen on the streaming charts if arriving on Hulu will finally get Arcadian, which holds a 78% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, a boost in viewership and popularity.

Rlje Films most recent action horror movie Arcadian will soon be available for streaming, after over two months since its theatrical release. The film is led by Oscar winner Nicolas Cage as a father trying to survive the post-apocalyptic world with his twin sons, after most of humankind has been wiped out by monsters.

Per Screen Rant, AMCs horror-centered streaming service Shudder has announced that Arcadian will officially be part of its upcoming movie slate for July. The film will be available for streaming on Shudder, starting on Friday, July 12. Since making its debut last April, the film has maintained a Certified Fresh rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the movie for the lead casts strong performances. Despite receiving favorable reviews, it failed to make a strong impression on moviegoers, as it currently has a low audience score of 55%.

Nicolas Cage is a Dad named Paul in this post apocalyptic world. The invasion that is leading to the destruction of the humanity is a highly mutant race of aliens that are born under the earth and attack the above ground habitants from within that position. This affects the twin boys Joseph and Thomas (Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins) and they are reluctant survivalists, with Joseph being particularly jealous of a bunkered and wealthier family down the road, where the lovely teenage Charlotte (Sadie Soverall) resides. Can the few survivors continue to exist in such a world?

Benjamin Brewer’s Arcadian runs on the sort of day/night mechanic found in many survival video games. It’s the kind of horror that will actually make you jump or, as the audience did during its SXSW Film & TV Festival premiere, gasp. The film features a small, but crucial role for Nicolas Cage, whose opening scene, featuring him running to get to his infant sons, sets the tone for what's to come in the story. Arcadian may falter in its story details, building some character tension that is never fully fleshed out, but it succeeds in creating a gripping, tense experience that is elevated by its disturbing creatures.

One of the most memorable horror blockbusters in recent memory was director John Krasinski's "A Quiet Place." It remains impressive that the guy who played Jim on "The Office" crafted such a refreshing film (with lots of help from screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods) that has spawned an entire franchise. What tends to happen in the realm of horror is that a string of imitators will follow any major success. Well, the time has finally come as "Arcadian" has unquestionably taken more than a little inspiration from Krasinski's 2018 thriller. That said, this is far more than just a cheap imitation. Moreover, it serves as a showcase for one of our most compelling living actors: Nicolas Cage.

In Benjamin Brewer’s Arcadian, the Earth’s soundscape is full of signs. The rustling leaves and frenetic bird calls are the noises of daylight’s safety, whereas the stillness of the night warns of threats. Brewer’s film harnesses the uneasy tension of a post-apocalyptic reality where no one knows what happened at the end of the world.

Premiering at SXSW, Arcadian observes Paul (Nicolas Cage) and his two sons, Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins) and Joseph (Jaeden Martell), navigating life in a recognizable but quieter version of Earth. Their routines rarely vary. In the morning, they forage around the forest for wood; salvage scrapes from ruined ships in abandoned ports; and run other errands around the house. At night, they say a prayer over dinner and check the locks. A cracked window or a door left ajar is an invitation for the monsters — impressively designed creatures with black veiny flesh...

“I wanted to experiment: can I develop a family which was not unlike my own upbringing?” says Nicolas Cage, while talking to Den of Geek about his new movie Arcadian, which premiered at SXSW 2024. “My dad did most of the heavy lifting, he did the raising because my mom sadly couldn’t be around. So it was just my father, and in this case, myself and my older brother. I saw that family dynamic in the [Elia] Kazan picture, East of Eden.”

From that description, you might imagine Arcadian to be an austere drama, something that takes place in a rustic farm house and focuses on the complex relationship between a father struggling to do right by his two boys. And you’d mostly be right… mostly.

But then Cage completes his thought. “And then I thought, well, wouldn’t it be interesting if this little family nucleus was contending with...

Here's my pitch to sell you on director Benjamin Brewer's Arcadian: it's A Quiet Place but with Nicolas Cage and better creature elements. The last part came as a huge shocker. Writer Michael Nilon sets the stage for an eerily familiar doomsday scenario that feels like Gareth Edwards' Monsters at first but quickly finds its roots as a sibling to John Krasinski's alien invasion franchise. Arcadian does take a bit to reach its full momentum, not as dynamically engaging as a survivalist drama, but once the monsters reveal themselves? Brewer executes what could be a knockout audition to direct the next A Quiet Place sequel, should there be more on the horizon.

After its South by Southwest (SXSW) premiere, Rlje Films’ Arcadian has received its official trailer, providing fans with a preview of what to expect from Nicolas Cage’s next action horror movie.

The Arcadian trailer brings the audience to a post-apocalyptic reality, where most of humankind has been wiped out by monsters who only appear at night. It introduces Cage as a father of two teen boys, as he teaches them what they need to do to survive their uncertain futures in a dystopian world. The film also teases the cause of these monsters’ arrival on Earth, which might be connected to the environmental crisis. "There are those who believe they came after the pollution people caused. And they’re here to cleanse the planet of the human race; so we’ll all become extinct," Cage’s character states at the beginning of the video.

The release date for Nicolas Cage’s next action horror movie has been revealed, which will see the Oscar-winning actor fighting soul-sucking monsters.

Per Deadline, Cage will be portraying one of the leading roles in Rlje Films’ upcoming post-apocalyptic survival thriller titled, Arcadian. After acquiring the North American distribution rights to the movie, Rlje Films announced that Arcadian has been scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 12, 2024, which will then be followed by its streaming debut on Shudder and AMC+ at a later date. This acquisition comes ahead of the project’s world premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival this March.

SXSW top brass have announced an additional 50 titles in the remaining line-up for next month, with world premieres of Alice Lowe’s Timestalker, Dev Patel’s Monkey Man, and Sydney Sweeney starrer Immaculate among the selection.

Playing in Headliner are Monkey Man, Patel’s feature directorial debut revenge story; Michael Mohan’s Immaculate, which Neon will distribute in the US and stars Sweeney as a nun; and A24’s New Year’s Eve comedy sci-fi Y2K starring Rachel Zegler.

South by Southwest’s 2024 edition just added some more star-studded movies in its second wave of programming including the highly anticipated Jordan Peele Monkeypaw production, Monkey Man, starring and directed by Dev Patel, the Sydney Sweeney nun movie Immaculate, the new Nicolas Cage horror movie Arcadian, and Musica starring Riverdale’s Camila Mendes.

For Peele, Sweeney, and Cage it’s another trip back to the Texas Capital. Peele world premiered his second horror directorial, Us, at SXSW back in 2019, while Sweeney was in Austin last year for her movie inde road movie Americana. Cage brought down the house in SXSW’s return from Covid edition in 2022 with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

A24, which world premiered their ultimate Best Picture Oscar winner, Everything Everywhere All at Once at SXSW 2022, is back as well with SNL alum Kyle Mooney’s feature directorial debut, Y2K, the Colman Domingo headliner Sing Sing with its U.

The lineup for the 2024 SXSW Film & TV festival has been announced, with the additions of Dev Patel’s action thriller Monkey Man as a headliner. Also joining the lineup is the Sydney Sweeney starring nun horror Immaculate and Y2K, the comedy from SNL alum Kyle Mooney that stars Rachel Zegler.

These films join previously announced centerpiece screenings including the Ryan Gosling starrer The Fall Guy, Anne Hathaway romance The Idea of You, and the Jake Gyllenhaal led Road House remake, the latter of which will open the fest.

As for television, the Bon Jovi docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story will bow at the fest along with Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told. These are joining the previously announced premiere of Netflix’s Three Body Problem.

Taking place in Austin, Texas from March 8 through 16, the annual festival has announced its Headliner films including Dev Patel’s directorial debut “Monkey Man,” “Immaculate” starring Sydney Sweeney, and “SNL” alum Kyle Mooney’s comedy “Y2K.” These join the previously announced lineup of titles.
