Stuck in the ‘80s celebrates its 20th anniversary today, becoming the longest-running podcast devoted to 80s pop culture. Created and co-hosted by award-winning Orlando-based journalist Steve Spears, the show is marking the milestone with a special two-hour retrospective.
“Episode 750 is a nostalgic look back at some favorite Stuck in the ‘80s moments – of ours and our patrons – from the last two decades,” says Spears. “It is also a heartfelt thank you to our devoted listeners. We wouldn’t be here without them.”
Stuck in the ‘80s entertains a longtime global audience of listeners across North America and in such faraway outposts as Australia and New Zealand. Co-host Brad Williams attributes the podcast’s enduring popularity to the duo’s off-air connection.
“Steve and I really are friends, and I think that comes through in our banter,” Williams said. “There’s no one else I would want to be on this podcast time machine with.

Carrie Fisher was born for the Hollywood life, since both her parents, actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, were well-known Hollywood stars. Her initial break came with the film Shampoo, but her portrayal as Princess Leia in George Lucas’ Star Wars (1977) propelled her to international recognition. While the actress passed away in 2016 at the age of 60, she left behind a significant Princess Leia legacy that many people still remember fondly.

While the movie was released almost five decades ago, the behind-the-scenes happenings still linger around Hollywood halls. One of the most prominent examples of that would be another actress was in the running for Fisher’s legendary role, and if it hadn’t been for Harrison Ford’s lack of interest, she could have gotten it.

In 1977, "Star Wars" created a powerful fandom. Suddenly the world was invested in a space princess who directed her own rescue, a farm boy with big dreams, and a rogue pilot who charmed his way into our hearts and bags of smuggled goods. For many people, this marked the beginning of their love of genre films, and there are very few places on the planet where the names Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia aren't recognized.
When we think about Leia Organa, the Princess/Senator/General that inspired a generation, it's almost impossible to imagine anyone but the late, great Carrie Fisher playing the role. However, that part went through auditions like any other. During a 2002 interview between Fisher and creator George Lucas on Fisher's show "Conversations from the Edge with Carrie Fisher" (via Comic Book Resources), Lucas revealed that the runner-up for her role ended up as a famous musician.

Tom Whitlock, who wrote the lyrics for the rock anthem “Danger Zone” and the chart-topping love song “Take My Breath Away” for the original Top Gun, winning an Oscar in the process, has died. He was 68.
Whitlock died Saturday at a memory care center in Gallatin, Tennessee, a spokesperson at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri, confirmed. He had Alzheimer’s disease, friends told the Springfield News Leader.
Whitlock wrote both Top Gun songs with Giorgio Moroder. Their relationship began when he fixed the brakes on the Italian composer’s Ferrari.
“Danger Zone,” performed by Kenny Loggins, was employed for the opening scene in the Tony Scott-directed, Tom Cruise-starring 1986 action movie, while “Take My Breath Away,” sung by Terri Nunn of Berlin, inspired the filmmakers to shoot additional scenes with Cruise and Kelly McGillis months later.

Durham, Nc - The hard truth of cinema takes place at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham, Nc from April 14-17. That’s four solid days of movies that don’t feature Natalie Portman’s face being digitally inserted on other bodies. Four days of real people doing real stuff. And you can get some great BBQ.
This years line up has enough goodness to make me have to make painful choices as what to watch. There’s only one screening unless a movie wins a major prize. It’s be there or miss out. Choice wisely. Here’s a few of the films I’m looking to catch:
The Hangman (Thursday 10:20 a.m.) appears to be a creepy classic as it probes the man who executed Nazi Adolph Eichmann. What’s he do now? He ritually slaughters animals. Windfall (Thurs 4:20 p.m.) takes us to Meredith,...

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of the Survivor Nicaragua Season Finale You know when you’re watching a really crappy movie, and you need closure? You need to see how it ends? Or maybe you’re reading an absolutely horrible book, but you still need to make it to that final page? Or maybe you’re a marathon runner who has no shot of winning, or even finishing in a decent time…but you tough it out anyways and make it to the end? That’s the way I feel about Survivor: Nicaragua (ok, maybe the marathon runner analogy was a stretch, but you get the point), it’s been a struggle, but after 4 months of snake footage and breaking tiles, at least it ends tonight.

Lucas Shows Fisher Star Wars Screen Test For First Time
George Lucas showed Carrie Fisher her Star Wars screen test for the first time - when he appeared as a guest on her new TV talk show. The creator of the massively succesful sci-fi film series shocked the actress with the never-before-seen footage - which helped Fisher land the lead female role of Princess Leia. But Lucas revealed Fisher only just got the part that turned her into a movie legend - Berlin singer Terri Nunn was a close second choice. Neal Kendall, the executive producer of Fisher's new show Conversations From The Edge, which airs Wednesday on the Oxygen cable channel, says, "George Lucas doesn't like doing interviews all that much, but he's extremely comfortable with Carrie. They have remained friends."...
