Can You Survive The ‘Traumatika’ Trailer?
Image
“This is not a movie you see. This is a movie you survive! You have been warned!“

So claims the tagline for Traumatika, the sophomore feature from director Pierre Tsigaridis (Two Witches). Based on the trailer below, released today by Saban Films, I’m inclined to believe it.

Written by Tsigaridis and Maxime Rancon, Traumatika follows “A young boy (whose) night terrors become reality when his mother begins showing signs of demonic possession. What he’s about to experience will haunt him for the rest of his life and claim countless lives across generations.”

Check out the trailer below:

Dear reader, I have chills from watching this trailer. I’m about as seasoned a horror fan as it gets, and I have to admit, this film appears truly nightmarish. Especially considering the fact that it all seems to be from the point of view of a small child experiencing the...

‘9-1-1’: Aisha Hinds on Directing Bobby’s Reconciliation With His Mother
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 11 “Holy Mother of God.”] Surprise, Bobby’s (Peter Krause) mother is alive! That’s even news to his wife Athena (Angela Bassett). Bobby’s family reunion with his mother, Ann (Lesley Ann Warren), and his brother, Charlie (Sean O’Bryan), when an emergency at her mega-church brings the 118 to the scene. As he explains to Athena, he doesn’t talk about her because he doesn’t want to think about her or want her in his life because she’s a con artist. He last spoke to her before his and Marcy’s wedding, and after the apartment fire that killed his wife and children, Ann sent a condolence letter on official ministry stationary. He didn’t even finish it because he was afraid there’d be a pitch for a donation. Charlie then visits Bobby at the firehouse and invites him and Athena to lunch with Ann. But ...

‘9-1-1’ Creator Says Buck’s Buddie Denial Is Not the End, but ‘It Doesn’t Mean I’m Making Promises’
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “9-1-1” Season 8, Episode 11.

“9-1-1” barely gave its firefighters a chance to breathe following Season 8’s two-part serial killer saga before dropping more chaos on their laps: Including the unexpected introduction of Bobby’s mother and Buck dropping a difficult truth for Buddie fans.

Episode 11, titled “Holy Mother of God,” followed the 118 as they responded to an emergency call at a megachurch, where Bobby (Peter Krause) ran into his estranged mother (played by Lesley Ann Warren), who turned out to be a traveling minister with a health crisis. Viewers learn that Bobby distanced himself from his mother and brother Charlie (Sean O’Bryan) after the death of his dad, after seeing his family move forward from the loss and making a name for themselves in the megachurch circuit.

While Bobby dealt with his family reunion, Buck (Oliver Stark) struggled with his best friend Eddie (Ryan Guzman...

911 season 8 episode 11 recap: Buck's ex makes a surprise return as Bobby confronts his past
Image
After watching his best friend move to Texas in the previous episode of 911, the eleventh episode of 911 saw Buck moving into his new digs aka Eddie’s house and it quickly becomes clear he might be in over his head. While Buck made the grand gesture of subletting Eddie’s house so he could move to Texas, moving into his best friend’s house is only making him miss Eddie that much more.

Unable to sleep in the house, Buck goes to see Maddie and asks to sleep over. He opens up about struggling to sleep at the house telling Maddie how the house just doesn’t feel like his own place. For Back, it’s just a constant reminder of Eddie to which Maddie asks Buck to make a promise to her: try to make some new friends.

The next day, Buck tries to make small talk...

911 season 8, episode 11 recap and review: Can Athena accept Bobby's lie?
Image
It's time for some more of Bobby's lies to come out in 911 season 8, episode 11. However, I will say that technically Bobby didn't like: his mother is dead to him. That's just not the way a lot of people see it.

Caution: This post contains Spoilers for 911 season 8, episode 11

The new episode will see Bobby's mom come into the story, as the 118 is called out to a situation at her church. This leads to a lot of questions. Why exactly did Bobby lie about his mother being dead? On the surface of this, I don't blame Bobby for his wording.

Meanwhile, we get a returning cast member. Anirudh Pisharody is back as Ravi, which makes sense considering the 118 is a team member down. Ryan Guzman's Eddie is off to Texas to be an active father to his son, Christopher. Ravi has been heavily underused since his first appearance in...

Today at Grimmfest, the much-anticipated Northern UK Premiere of Traumatika is set to leave audiences breathless. Frightfest 2024: ‘Traumatika’ Review
Image
Stars: Susan Gayle-Watts, Ranen Navat, Aj Bowen, Sean O’Bryan, Emily Goss, Rebekah Kennedy | Written and Directed by Pierre Tsigaridis

From the off, Pierre Tsigaridis’ sophomore film, Traumatika, promises its audience an exploration of the various sub-types of childhood trauma, focusing on emotional, physical, and sexual abuse alongside a gratuitous amount of violence.

The story is told non-linearly, starting in present-day L.A. We are introduced to Jennifer Novac’s (Susan Gayle-Watts) highly exploitative – verging on evil – true crime show intent on exploring a spate of child murders that occurred in 2003 in Pasadena, California. But, before we get there, the audience is transported back further in time to the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, when a lone wanderer buries a mysterious artefact only to then commit suicide after being plagued by visions of his child’s death at the hands of the demon Volpaazu.

93 years later, and we shift to a young Mikey’s (Ranen Navat) bedroom.

What Happened to Michael in Princess Diaries 2?
Image
The Princess Diaries is a classic Disney film that put Anne Hathaway on the map in 2001. A coming-of-age comedy about Mia Thermopolis, an average girl who learns she's long-lost European royalty, the film and its 2004 sequel were based on a series of novels by Meg Cabot. Unfortunately, however, one big change was made to Mia's love life.

In the original film, Mia crushes on Michael Moscovitz but his character is nowhere to be seen in the sequel, The Princess Bride 2: Royal Engagement, despite being fairly prominent in the source material. The reason for Michael's absence had an entirely real-world explanation, and it led to Mia instead romancing Nicholas Deveraux, played by Chris Pine.

Updated by Jordan Iacobucci on August 31, 2024: The Princess Diaries franchise reminds a beloved staple of early 2000s comedies, with many members of its main cast going on to become major stars in the decades that followed.

10 TV Shows About Mysteries That Were Never Solved
Image
Not every mystery series gets a satisfying ending, like Persons Unknown, leaving viewers hanging on unresolved plotlines. Santa Clarita Diet and The Society both fell victim to abrupt cancellations, leaving key mysteries unanswered to the disappointment of fans. Shows like FlashForward and Kyle Xy were cut short just as they were starting to reveal intriguing mysteries, leaving audiences craving more answers.

A good overarching mystery is one of the most consistent ways to keep an audience tuning in to a TV show week after week, but not every series that does so manages to present satisfying answers before ending. After the success of series like Lost, network TV quickly became flooded with copycats hoping to replicate the popularity of the long-running shows with similar mysteries baked-in to their loglines. While the ending of Lost might not have been the most satisfying conclusion in the world, it at least had the chance to provide some answers.

Mysterious Sci-Fi Horror Film 'The Veil' Trailer with Rebekah Kennedy
Image
"Hope I didn't wake the others..." "The others...?? There's nobody around for acres..." FilmFrontier Studios has unveiled an official festival trailer for an indie film titled The Veil, now playing on the festival circuit. Written & directed & produced by Cameron Beyl, this just premiered in his hometown of Portland at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival earlier this month. Not to be confused with the 2016 horror film The Veil with Jessica Alba, or the 2021 Korean spy thriller series The Veil, this one is something else. Redemption gives way to a reckoning when a reclusive retired priest shelters a young Amish runaway in crisis, only to uncover a mystery that ties her presence to a terrifying encounter from his youth– and the bright aurora borealis that rages overhead. The little indie film stars Sean O'Bryan and Rebekah Kennedy. A "genre bending cosmic horror" that definitely seems like a good fit for the H.

Trailer for Forest Survival Thriller 'Rust Creek' with Hermione Corfield
"If they find you here, they'll kill ya." IFC Midnight has released a trailer for Rust Creek, an indie survival thriller from filmmaker Jen McGowan which premiered at the Bentonville Film Festival earlier this year. The film is about an "ambitious, overachieving college senior" who is heading to a job interview, but makes a wrong turn and ends up stranded deep in the frozen Kentucky woods. She is forced into an uneasy alliance with an strange loner with "shadowy intentions", while trying to survive and find her way back home safely. The cast includes Hermione Corfield, Jay Paulson, Micah Hauptman, Sean O'Bryan, Daniel R. Hill, John Marshall Jones, and Jeremy Glazer. This looks very much like a Kentucky woods thriller, exactly as it sounds, with some twists & turns to go along with the survival. Not sure if it's any good though. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jen McGowan's Rust Creek,...

London Has Fallen Blu-Ray Preview Blows Up Chelsea Bridge | Exclusive
Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Aaron Eckhart, and Gerard Butler in London Has Fallen (2016)
After a solid theatrical run where it took in $195 million worldwide, from a $60 million budget, London Has Fallen is coming home this week with its release on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand formats today, June 14. In case you didn't get a chance to see this action sequel in theaters, we have an exclusive preview for you to check out before the movie hits Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand formats. This preview takes fans behind-the-scenes of the destructive Chelsea Bridge scene in this sequel.

This preview, courtesy of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, features second unit director Steve Griffin, who teases that, since they couldn't actually blow up the real Chelsea Bridge in London, this massive attack scene was filmed by using a huge green screen set at an airfield in Bulgaria during principal photography. We also hear from senior visual effects supervisor Sean Farrow, who reveals that some of the most fascinating conversations during the production involved around deciding which bridges to blow up. He also explains that the production chose Chelsea Bridge because it was a suspension bridge that could be pulled apart piece by piece.

Devastation of a world capital and a revenge plan against an American president fuel the high-octane London Has Fallen, coming to Digital HD on May 31, 2016, and Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand on June 14, 2016 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit Olympus Has Fallen raises the stakes with non-stop action and suspenseful plot twists. The Blu-ray and Digital HD versions also include exclusive bonus features about the can't-miss thriller.

In London Has Fallen, the stellar cast of Gerard Butler (300), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Angela Bassett (American Horror Story), Robert Forster (Jackie Brown), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Radha Mitchell (Pitch Black), Sean O'Bryan (Vantage Point), and Morgan Freeman (Lucy) reprises their original roles from Olympus Has Fallen, joined by Alon Moni Aboutboul (The Dark Knight Rises), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Charlotte Riley (Edge of Tomorrow), and Waleed F. Zuaiter (Homeland). Babak Najafi directs London Has Fallen.

When the British Prime Minster dies unexpectedly, Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) knows it is his duty to prep with Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs (Angela Bassett) for them to accompany U.S. President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) to the state funeral at St Paul's Cathedral in London. With every powerful world leader set to attend, the funeral should be the most protected event on Earth. Yet within moments of arriving, heads of government are assassinated and London landmarks are attacked.

Asher, Banning, and Jacobs are ambushed and retreat amidst a hail of gunfire and explosives. The devastated British capital goes into lockdown. Banning will stop at nothing to secure Asher's safe return home. Back at the White House, Vice President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman) races against time brainstorming with top advisors in the Situation Room to get those trapped in London a lifeline of support and a way out. Outnumbered and outgunned, Banning reaches out for help to an English MI6 agent (Charlotte Riley) who rightly trusts no one. Failure is not an option as they attempt to stop the criminals from carrying out the final phase of their revenge plan. Take a look at our exclusive preview from London Has Fallen before picking up the Blu-ray and DVD this week.

Filming Begins on London Has Fallen Starring Gerard Butler; First Synopsis Revealed
I'm still bitter that when it came to last year's "Battle of the Die Hard-in-the-White House" movies, the crown went to Olympus Has Fallen over the vastly superior White House Down. But so it goes, and we will be treated to yet another installment of Gerard Butler's Secret Service Agent Mike Banning taking down baddies. Millennium Films has sent out a press release announcing that filming has commenced on London Has Fallen, which sees Banning accompanying the U.S. President (Aaron Eckhart) and Speaker of the House (Morgan Freeman) to attend the funeral of the British prime minister. The press release also includes the first official plot synopsis, and this is my favorite part: "a deadly plot to kill the world's most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future." All those unknown landmarks? Totally safe. Hit the jump for the press release.

Episode Recap: Lie To Me - 2.04: "Honey"
Cal (Tim Roth) is at a Lovematch Connections singles mixer and this was a funny opening to the show so far, as we don't know why he's there. As he's also single he may be on the look out to meet other women, but we also know that's not really his forte. Also his heart really lies with Gillian (Kelli Williams). He pretends to be a furrier to ward off the woman who feigns to show an interest in him, more like his Brit accent (which she mistakes for Irish!) He meets another woman and asks if she was in a hotel room what would she order, chocolate cake, strawberries or warm honey. (The answer being obvious.) She's flustered and walks away. Gillian calls telling him about the wife killer, Eric Matheson (Garret Dillahunt)who is on the run and the FBI are searching for him. Cal then meets another...

Persons Unknown: Watch the (likely) Last Episode; Are You Satisfied?
Last night, NBC aired the final two episodes of their mystery-thriller series, Persons Unknown. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Lee Purcell, Jason Wiles, Andy Greenfield, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Alan Ruck, Kate Lang Johnson, Sean O'Bryan, and Gerald Kyd.

NBC waited until summer to air Persons Unknown; a time when fewer people watch television and their isn't much competition. On Monday nights, it got very poor ratings, even for a summer show, and was consequently sent to the TV graveyard known as Saturday nights.

Remi Aubuchon, one of the show's executive producers, has said that the show was originally envisioned to have self-contained seasons but could easily run for multiple years. Based on the ratings and their treatment of the...

Here are some television tidbits we think you’ll find interesting:

'Hackett' nabs Hoff; Potts, Sexton join 'Family'
Tony winner Christian Hoff has come aboard Fox's comedy pilot Hackett. Meanwhile, Annie Potts, Brendan Sexton, Sean O'Bryan and Jennifer Aspen have joined TNT's one-hour pilot Family Man, starring William H. Macy.

Both pilots hail from Sony Pictures TV.

Hackett, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, centers on a bad-boy literary luminary (Donal Logue) who escapes his disgraced career teaching at Yale only to find himself among the ultra-PC ranks of teachers at an Ohio public high school.

Hoff will play the school's vice principal, a frustrated wannabe writer and Hackett's nemesis. The actor, who won a Tony this year for his work on Jersey Boys, is repped by Stone Manners Agency and managers Cirrincione & Associates.

Family Man, a co-production with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron's Storyline Entertainment, is a light drama starring Macy as unlikely criminal John Parker: a respected father and pillar of his community by day and the leader of a bickering gang of burglars by night.

Potts will play his wife.
