Something to Stream Every Day This Week; 'American Born Chinese,' 'Barry,' 'Succession' Series Finales, More
Image
The end of May traditionally also means that fall TV shows are gearing up to end their season finales. But that tradition hails from a time when TV seasons were nearly 30 episodes in length, and spanned from their premieres in early September all the way through late spring.

Streaming has changed essentially everything about that schedule. Although new TV shows are still traditionally released in the fall, streaming has no set calendar, and new titles release whenever studio executives see a lull in their calendar. Coincidentally, there are a couple of big-name streaming shows that will air their season (and series) finales this week, even though their premiere episodes aired not last September, but earlier this spring. Check them out below, along with all the other fantastic titles coming to streaming this week!

Monday, May 22 NBA Western Conference Finals Game 4, Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Lakers | ESPN, stream with a...

Roku Channel to Launch ‘Team Rubicon’ Series Spotlighting Volunteer Disaster Response Organization
Image
The Roku Channel will shine a spotlight on the work of the veteran-led disaster response organization Team Rubicon through an unscripted series set to premiere May 25 from the production team behind PBS’ “This Old House.”

“Team Rubicon” follows the organization’s volunteers as they are sent off in deployments across the country and overseas to help the neediest victims of natural and man-made disasters, from the recent storms in Selma, Ala., to the recent record snowfalls in mountain communities north of San Bernardino, Calif.

The half-hour series, hosted by “This Old House’s” Kevin O’Connor, documents the real-world impact of extreme weather events and how the heaviest burdens fall hardest on the poorest communities and most vulnerable residents. The 13 self-contained episodes also emphasize the importance that volunteering plays for servicemembers in their transition to civilian life.

The individual stories of “Greyshirts,” as Team Rubicon volunteers are known, are the heart of the series,...

‘Untold’ Directors on Making Five Netflix Sports Docs Fit Together, Find Their Moment, and What’s Next
Image
A documentary collection of five “story behind the story” looks at compelling chapters from the world of sports doesn’t happen by accident. Particularly in a corner of the entertainment world driven by injecting drama into events in whatever sport happens to be on display, athletes are no stranger to the process of seeing how stories are written in real time.

So when the filmmaking duo of Maclain and Chapman Way set out to collect a handful of sports world reevaluations for the Netflix series “Untold,” they knew exactly what they were looking for in potential subjects. After an enlightening conversation with former tennis pro Mardy Fish — the main participant in “Breaking Point,” the volume’s last chapter — the Ways met with around 20 different former sports stars before honing in on the five that would come to make up “Untold.”

“We talked to a lot of athletes and looked at...
