In a new installment of his This Day That Year series, Subhash K Jha looks at the time when Sunny Deol spoke about Bobby starring as Bhagat Singh in 23rd March 1931: Shaheed.

It’s easy to dismiss this as yet another Bhagat Singh bio-pic, 23rd March 1931: Shaheed, in the current cascade of such films, more so when the director Guddu Dhanoa doesn’t have the reputation of making particularly classy films.

But Dhanoa’s version of the by-now familiar story has its own smouldering intensity. It projects a vitality quite dissimilar to Raj Kumar Santoshi’s The Legend Of Bhagat Singh . And yet , the vitality in 23rd March 1931 Shaheed is no less vital.

An organic intensity runs through Dhanoa’s exacerbated narrative. Sometimes, specially in the second-half he gets carried away with all the bombastic outpouring of rhetorics and rhyme -–‘screams’ that patriotic films in mainstream Hindi...

In Omung Kumar’s Pm Narendra Modi, which clocks six years on May 24, Vivek Oberoi handles the principal role with a certain amount of flair and decency. His eyes speak more than a thousand words. Lamentably this is a film that believes in the power of verbal lamp-posts. Every self-glorifying thought that this celluloid holographic Modi feels must have a verbal counterpoint. Every rhetoric and retort, every aphorism that our prime minister has uttered or not uttered (the line between fact and fiction in this bio-pic is non-existent) is given the status of a large hoarding.

Mumbai, Nov 20 – Several prominent Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Ranbir Kapoor, cast their votes on Wednesday during the Maharashtra assembly elections, as polling for the 288-member assembly took place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Ranbir Kapoor-starrer latest track ‘Saari Duniya Jalaa Lenge’ the upcoming film ‘Animal’, captures a kind of murderous and psychotic love that really tells just exactly what Ranbir’s character is.

Contrary to its title though, the song’s nature is much more gentle and speaks more of a kind of love, a family love, where he will burn the whole world down if anything happens to his loved ones.

Sung by B Prakk, the new track has a very standard Bollywood style Punjabi flair where it stylistically is just very weird. Partly it almost sounds like a mourning song, and is laden with classic Punjabi pop elements.

The 1983 action comedy film ‘Coolie’ is directed by Manmohan Desai and written by Kader Khan. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan as Iqbal Aslam Khan, a railway coolie, who was separated from his mother Salma (Waheeda Rehman) due to Zafar’s (Kadar Khan) obsession with her that causes the destruction of her family and her mental breakdown.

Years later, fate unites her sons, Iqbal and Sunny (Rishi Kapoor) and they set out to save Salma from Zafar’s captivity. It also stars Rati Agnihotri, Shoma Anand, Suresh Oberoi and Puneet Issar.

Bollywood biopic Pm Narendra Modi will hit the theatres on May 24, after the Lok Sabha Election results are announced, the makers said on Friday. The film, on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was stopped just a night before its worldwide release on April 11 when the parliamentary polls kicked off. The Election Commission said that any material which disturbs a level playing field should not be allowed.

Producer Sandip Ssingh said: "As a responsible citizen, we respect the law of the country. After a lot of discussions and given the curiosity and excitement about the film, we have decided to release the film immediately after the Lok Sabha Election results (to be announced on May 23)."
