Kerry Washington Inspires WWII Black Women Battalion to Battle in Tyler Perry’s ‘The Six Triple Eight’ Trailer
Image
Kerry Washington as an army captain delivers a rousing speech to the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to battle overseas during the Second World War in the teaser trailer (below) for Netflix’s The Six Triple Eight from writer, director and producer Tyler Perry.

“This is our mission. And we will not fail,” Major Charity Adams (Washington) declares quayside as the 855 Black women and women of color of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion march forward at her command to board a ship taking them to battle.

Their mission was to sort through a three-year backlog of mail — 17 million letters in all — yet to be delivered to American soldiers overseas, to restore morale on the front lines.

The Netflix biopic is part of an effort to give the 6888th battalion belated recognition for their heroism as they overcame discrimination to complete their letter-posting duties well ahead of schedule.

Ruthless (2020)
Ruthless Season 5 Part 2: Renewal, Cast, Story & Everything We Know
Ruthless (2020)
Ruthless season 5 part 1 ended in September 2024 and now fans are anxious about when the next installment of the drama series will air. Created by Tyler Perry of the Madea movie franchise, Ruthless is a spinoff of another Perry series, The Oval. Ruthless is a much more harrowing tale, following the cult known as the Rakudushi. In the beginning of the series, Ruth Truesdale (Melissa L. Williams), an ardent follower, kidnaps her own daughter for the Rakudushi. However, after suffering a ritual sexual assault, Ruth makes plans to leave the cult with anyone else she can convince.

The series first premiered in May 2020, and there have been four more seasons since. Each season of Ruthless is broken up into two parts, with some parts coming months after the first part. Season 5 part 1 premiered in August 2024 with eight episodes and now season 5 part 2 is expected to tie up all the loose strands of the show.

Tyler Perry's Ruthless Cast & Character Guide: Who Plays Who
Image
The Tyler Perry series, Ruthless, includes a cast of talented actors, some of whom have been in Perry productions before and others new to the universe. Tyler Perry, creator of the Madea franchise of movies as well as many more TV shows and films, created Ruthless as a spinoff of The Oval, a BET political drama about the U.S. President and his family. Ruthless takes a much darker turn, starring Melissa Williams as Ruth Truesdale, a member of the dangerous and sexually exploitative Rakudushi cult.

When Ruth's daughter is also brought into the cult, Ruth comes to realize how awful it is and plans her escape. Premiering in March 2020, Ruthless has been on for five seasons and the show once again proves that Tyler Perry doesn't need Madea to create a watchable program. It's one of the more fantastical and overtly hair-raising Tyler Perry productions and the ensemble cast...

Filmmaker/producer Steven Soderbergh is on board to executive produce a feature-length adaptation of buzzy Directors’ Fortnight short film “The Vandal,” Variety can reveal.

Directed by American helmer Eddie Alcazar, the Quinzaine-premiering film — which is presented by filmmaker/producer Darren Aronofsky — is being tipped as an early contender for the best animated short Oscar. It stars Bill Duke and uses both stop-motion animation and live action in a unique process. Set in a world not unlike mid-20th century America, Duke stars in the film as Harold, whose tormented search for peace from traumatic loss results in an unexpectedly destructive awakening after he undergoes a lobotomy.
