After several years of making short films, Hugo Keijzer has made his feature directorial debut with the survival thriller The Occupant – and we’re going to have the chance to see how the film has turned out very soon! Decal Releasing will be giving The Occupant a theatrical and VOD release in the United States on August 8th, and with that date just four weeks away, a trailer has dropped online. You can check it out in the embed above.
The film had its premiere at the 2025 SXSW London Film Festival just last month, and the reactions that came out of its two screenings there were quite positive.
Keijzer wrote the screenplay with Philip Michael Howe, Roelof Jan Minneboo, and Xiao Tang, crafting a story that centers on Abby, a desperate geologist who takes a high-paying, high-risk mining job in the remote wilds of Northern Georgia to fund her sister’s experimental cancer treatment.

Thor actor Chris Hemsworth recently shared that he wants to keep the God of Thunder "unpredictable" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth addressed whether a return to the MCU as Thor was in his future. "I've got to be careful how I word that because I have no idea what's happening in the next phase," he admitted. "There's always conversations [...] But officially, I don't know." He explained that, if he does return as the God of Thunder, he wants to make sure that they keep the character fresh for audiences: "I don't want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character." He added, "I've loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don't have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how...

Extraction director Sam Hargrave has explained why the upcoming Extraction 2 is a sequel rather than the once-rumored prequel. Speaking with Collider, the former stuntman-turned-filmmaker revealed that keeping plans for Tyler Rake’s next adventure close to the chest was enforced by writer and producer Joe Russo, with both he and Hargrave concluding that “You don’t want to give too much away too early.” Ultimately, the decision to go forward instead of back was made to answer the questions that many were left with following the first movie.
“I don’t think you can [leave] an audience with that ending and then not go figure out what happened because that’s the question. Everyone’s like, “What? How? Who? When? How did that happen?” And so, we have to answer that question.”
The main question left dangling after the first Extraction is how Chris Hemsworth’s action hero Tyler Rake...

Extraction 2 star Chris Hemsworth recently suggested that the upcoming Netflix action film won't be his last time playing mercenary Tyler Rake.
In an interview with Total Film, the actor -- who is best known for starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thor -- talked about how much love he has for the Extraction films. "I love playing the character. I love this world. I love having something else outside of Marvel that’s amassed a bit of a following, something more in the real world," Hemsworth said. "I honestly feel like we made a better film than the first one. That’s rare in the franchise world." He then hinted at a potential third film, teasing, "We’d be remiss not to have a crack at another one."

The upcoming action movie sequel Extraction 2 has a lot to live up to following the major success of its predecessor. So, how exactly do returning director Sam Hargrave and star Chris Hemsworth plan on meeting expectations and achieving so seemingly impossible? Why, by setting the Thor actor on fire and crafting “the craziest oner in cinema history,” of course.
“For me, the image of Chris Hemsworth beating the s--t out of a bunch of prisoners, while on fire, in the snow was something that I couldn’t pass up. And hats off to Chris. It wasn’t CG fire. And he had to do it over and over.”
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Hargrave reveals details regarding an action sequence that was referred to simply as “the craziest oner in cinema history” in the Extraction 2 script. It’s a sequence that will see Hemsworth’s mercenary Tyler Rake partaking in a prison break.
