After filming in 2024, Netflix Spain is lining up its brand new period drama series The Lady’s Companion (also known as Manual Para Señoritas in Spanish regions) for a release on March 28th, 2025. Designed for multiple seasons, the new period romantic comedy-drama was filmed at Netflix’s expansive Tres Cantos production hub.

Premiering eight episodes on Netflix globally, the new series comes from Gema R. Neira and María José Rustarazo under the banner of Bambú Producciones. Gema is known for several high-profile and popular titles for Netflix over the years including Cable Girls, High Seas, and most recently, The Asunta Case.

SkyShowtime has announced that production is underway for its new comedy series “Nails,” its third original series commissioned in Spain.

“Nails” tells the story of four women from distinct backgrounds and ages who meet regularly at a nail salon, leading to a transformative friendship. The quartet is overwhelmed by societal pressures to be “perfect,” which prompts them to question their lives and identities. As they grapple with chronic stress, they decide to rebel against their circumstances, which causes an emotional upheaval in their families. This rebellion culminates in the formation of The Free Women’s Club, a safe space aimed at helping other women navigate their challenges.

SkyShowtime is polishing up another original, this time a comedy out of Spain. Nails will follow four women from different backgrounds who regularly meet up in a local nail bar. Cameras are rolling on the series.

Federation Spain is on production duty, making the comedy in association with SkyShowtime and with the collaboration of Telemundo Studios. The series was created by Araceli Álvarez de Sotomayor. She also writes and directs.

The four female protagonists in Nails rebel against society’s expectations of them with consequences for themselves and family and friends.

“They will be shaken by a decision that will turn their lives upside down, leading to the spontaneous creation of ‘The Free Women’s Club’, a safe space and sisterhood intended to help other women solve their problems,” reads the logline.

Nice within its pretensions, and with the grace of letting us appreciate Belén Rueda in a horror film after having seen her in so many horror films… way more serious than this one.

Very curated in the photography… but in the rest, an entertainment that “goes to the point” and, without leaving its light tone, manages to entertain for a while and be forgotten very quickly.

It will not go down in history, but it leaves a pleasant taste in the mouth, without pretensions, without wanting to be anything other than what it is, without seeking to find the original and, with a tone of self-conscious parody, just aiming at entertaining without looking for absolutely nothing else.

Barcelona-based production-distribution-sales outfit Filmax has taken on international sales on Spanish director Víctor García León’s new comedy “One Hell of a Holiday!”

Filmax is presenting the trailer to international buyers at this week’s Malaga Film Festival at Mafiz’s Spanish Screenings Content, a massive industry platform where Filmax is also talking up a raft of titles led by “Girl, Unknown” and “Co-Husbands.”

“One Hell of a Holiday!” is written by Manuel Burque and Josep Gatell (“Undercover Wedding Crashers”).This grandparents’ tale follows Manuela and José, two grandparents who love looking after their grandkids but have had enough of their children dumping their offspring on them every five minutes.

Indeed, Manuela and José can’t remember when they last had some free time. To top it all off, they’ve had to cancel their summer holiday, because their children have an important business trip and need them to look after the grandkids.

A producer on one of the highest-grossing of Spanish films in the last decade, Alex de la Iglesia’s “Perfect Strangers,” Madrid-based Nadie es Perfecto is ramping up production as it rebrands and, following the hire of ex-Netflix exec Juan Mayne, focuses on broadening its bridges with Mexico and Latin America.

In one move, Christopher Hool at Mexico’s Sdb Films has boarded two upcoming Nep titles, “La Navidad está en sus manos,” from Joaquín Mazón, and Kike Maillo’s”Locomía.”

Nep also adapted Mexican hit series “El Juego de la Llaves,” a property of Corazón Films, for Spain, producing with Warner Bros. and local broadcaster Atresmedia.

As a sign of its expanded ambitions, the company is now rebranding as Nadie es Perfecto+.

Spanish indie production shingle Nadie es Perfecto, producer of Alex de la Iglesia’s hit comedy “Perfectos Desconocidos,” has tapped former Netflix exec Juan Mayne to join the company as it revs up its slate with a slew of new projects.

These include two pics in pre-production: “La navidad en sus manos,” in co-production with Bowfinger and Esto También Pasará, directed by Joaquín Mazón, starring Ernesto Sevilla and with a special collaboration from actor-filmmaker Santiago Segura, who has worked with de la Iglesia and Guillermo del Toro; and “Locomía,” directed by Kike Maillo, starring Jaime Lorente and Alberto Ammann.

In the mood for a Spanish-language psycho-drama? Shrew’s Nest is another Shudder exclusive and is a fun jaunt into the weird world of sisters Montse (Macarena Gómez) and Nia (Nadia de Santiago).

Montse and Nia live in an apartment in Madrid in the 1950s. Montse has raised Nia alone since their mother died in childbirth and their father disappeared some years afterwards. Whilst Nia has an outgoing and sunny disposition, Montse is a highly strung, paranoid agoraphobic, suffering crippling panic attacks if she so much as takes a step outside their home and is reliant on doses of morphine supplied by a friend and customer of her dress-tailoring business that she runs from the apartment.

The Last Circus is a Spanish language film that will be releasing in some theatres August 19th, thanks to Magnolia Pictures. This is a surreal film that puts a clown in the middle of the Spanish Civil War. The film seems to jump from frame to frame in the red band trailer for the film, while a sneering clown unloads clip after clip. This clown is not out to bring smiles but bloodshed and fans of the film can enjoy the North American poster for the film here. The graphic tells fans: "it's showtime!" And the show begins this summer.
