There are plenty of movies that deserve to be universally praised. Maybe the casting is flawless, the story hits all the right notes, and the direction is top-tier. Fans walk away loving it, quoting it, rewatching it. But do the critics always agree? Not really. A film can have all the right ingredients and still miss the mark with critics.
Just look at something like Heat with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, or David Fincher’s Zodiac starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Both are modern classics in the eyes of fans, yet they’re not exactly topping the Rotten Tomatoes charts.
To truly earn a high Rotten Tomatoes score, a movie has to land with both audiences and critics alike. It has to offer something special, whether it’s a bold story, unforgettable characters, or a fresh take that no one saw coming. Some movies do just that, crushing it at...

Avatar director James Cameron finally decided to watch Christopher Nolan’s 2023 masterpiece Oppenheimer, and he wasn’t impressed by what he saw. Although Cameron stated that he doesn’t like to comment on other people’s film-making process and films, Oppenheimer didn’t feel complete with Cameron.
Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus, the film depicted Cillian Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer coming to terms with the Atomic bomb that he developed, which was used on the citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. James Cameron revealed to Deadline that despite the billion-dollar box office collection and seven Oscars, Christopher Nolan dodged the main subject in Oppenheimer.

The Titanic director, who is planning an adaptation of nonfiction book Ghosts of Hiroshima, says Nolan’s film ‘dodged the subject’ of the atomic bomb’s devastating impact on that city
James Cameron has described Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s multi-Oscar-winning 2023 biopic about the atomic scientist Robert Oppenheimer, a “moral cop-out”.
Speaking to Deadline about his forthcoming project Ghosts of Hiroshima, about the effects of the bomb in that city, Cameron said he disagreed with Nolan’s narrative choices. “It’s interesting what he stayed away from,” said Cameron. “Look, I love the film-making, but I did feel that it was a bit of a moral cop-out.”...

What does it mean to be the President of the United States? Are you the leader of the free world, the responsible holder of the highest status in the land, a role model to one and all? Or are you a power-hungry despot, a selfish apex of broken ideals of exceptionalism and imperialism? Or is it somewhere in between? Or does it change from person to person?
These are big questions for a big office, questions that have been explored in various movies throughout the years. While there are a litany of interesting movie presidents in bangers like "Dave," "Idiocracy," and "Fail Safe," some of our most direct interrogations have come when filmmakers and performers set their sights on the real-life rulers, donning prosthetics and turning history into drama.

James Cameron and Christopher Nolan each have a claim to the title of the greatest film director of all time, but now one has expressed his discontent with the other’s former project. Nolan most recently directed Oppenheimer, the 2023 WWII film that premiered to widespread acclaim, winning seven Oscars and grossing over $950 million globally. Cameron has been tapped to direct a WWII film of his own, currently titled Ghost of Hiroshima, which will explore a closer look at the effect the A-bombs had on Japan. During a recent interview with Deadline ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash to talk about his upcoming WWII movie, in addition to spilling more details on the film, Cameron also revealed his gripe with Oppenheimer, including his opinion that the film is a “moral cop out” that “dodged the subject”:

James Cameron has sparked a new round of argument about Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer by calling the Oscar-winning drama “a bit of a moral cop-out” during press for his planned Hiroshima project, adding that the film “dodged the subject” of Japanese casualties. In several interviews Cameron praised Nolan’s craft yet faulted the choice to show only fleeting images of charred bodies while omitting the bombings themselves.
The Avatar director is negotiating to adapt Charles Pellegrino’s forthcoming non-fiction book Ghosts of Hiroshima, which chronicles survivors of the 1945 attack; he says the film will “go straight at the third rail” that Nolan avoided. Entertainment outlets note that Cameron has explored nuclear themes before, most visibly in Terminator 2.
Nolan has addressed similar criticism since Oppenheimer premiered, explaining that he kept the narrative confined to J. Robert Oppenheimer’s point of view and therefore excluded events the physicist did not witness.

Director James Cameron is working on a movie adaptation of Charles Pellegrino's upcoming book called Ghosts of Hiroshima. According to the filmmaker, his project will be very different from Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which only showed one version of the aftermath of the 1945 bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Speaking to Deadline, Cameron said he plans to take a different approach when it comes to retelling the horrors of World War II, while criticizing Nolan's take. "It's interesting what he stayed away from," the director said. "I love the filmmaking, but I did feel that it was a bit of a moral cop out. Because it's not like Oppenheimer didn't know the effects."
Cameron went on to explain how Oppenheimer seemed to intentionally avoid showing the aftermath of the atomic bombs on the Japanese people. "He's got one brief scene in the film where we see — and I don't like...

James Cameron explains how his upcoming atomic bomb movie is different from Oppenheimer, calling Christopher Nolan's film "a bit of a moral cop out." Nolan's 2023 film follows the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who developed the first atomic bomb during World War II. The movie was a massive critical and commercial success, making nearly $1 billion at the box office and winning seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Cameron, another one of the most critically and commercially successful filmmakers alive, is currently working on an atomic bomb movie. In 2024, he purchased the rights to Charles R. Pellegrino's book,Ghosts of Hiroshima, which focuses more on the Japanese people affected by the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

If comics have taught us one thing, it's that few superpowers compare to deep pockets. Since the dawn of the superhero, limitless wealth has been a staple trope of the genre, making the outlandish adventures, gadgets, and resources featured in the story a little more plausible -- even when the characters' net worths are anything but. From super scientists with multi-billion-dollar tech companies to the leaders of sovereign nations with rare natural resources, the characters of the Marvel Universe have access to riches we can only imagine.
Fans online have frequently speculated about which heroes and villains possess the largest bank accounts. Though we've taken this popular discourse into consideration when coming up with our own estimated figures, we also sought to find comparisons between these fictional characters and real-world millionaires and billionaires who have made money in similar fields. James Cameron, the director of classics like The Terminator and Avatar, has talked about Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, the 2023 biopic that tells the story of the scientist in charge of creating the nuclear bomb. Cameron is preparing his own movie on the subject, the adaptation of Charles Pellegrino's book Ghosts of Hiroshima. However, it won't follow the same storyline as Oppenheimer. Ghosts of Hiroshima tells the story from the perspective of those who were on the other side of the blast. When asked about Oppenheimer, and how his film could be compared to Nolan's, Cameron marked the difference by saying that the 2023 film was a bit of a "moral cop-out" because it didn't tell the whole story.

Cillian Murphy’s acting career has spanned nearly three decades and is still going strong. Over these years, he has played pretty much everything, from being a villain to being the Father of the Atomic Bomb in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer; he has built a career as diverse as it could be.
Along the way, he has won several accolades and awards, including an Academy Award in 2024 for Best Actor. However, he is not done yet because Netflix has dropped the first look of his new and exciting project, Steve, taking place in the mid-90s, and it looks like the Red Eye actor has already cut out work for himself.
Surprisingly, fans are already thrilled as they get their hands on the first look of the movie, as Murphy adds depth with a single look.

There have been plenty of iconic WWII movies released over the years, but the highest-grossing of them all has remained a streaming success for quite a while now. 2023 brought on the release of Oppenheimer, the most recent film from Christopher Nolan that not only won seven Oscars but also grossed $976 million at the global box office. Oppenheimer is currently streaming on Peacock in the U.S. and on Netflix globally, where it’s one of the most popular movies on the streamer, charting in countries such as Estonia, Greece, Latvia, and Lithuania. Oppenheimer’s $976 million box office haul is enough to make it the highest-grossing WWII movie of all time, ahead of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe ($720 million) and Dunkirk ($509 million).
Oppenheimer is widely regarded as Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus. After earning nominations for Memento, Inception, and Dunkirk, Nolan finally received his first two Oscar wins for Oppenheimer.

Godzilla is the most versatile character in pop culture, and as Godzilla experts, we should know. By "versatile," we mean the Big G can be both good and bad, or serious and silly. Yeah, Batman can bounce between Adam West and Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale, but the former was a parody, and not a true representation of The Dark Knight. Sure, Superman has been a villain, but seeing the Big Blue Boy Scout break bad was meant for shock value. Godzilla has been both the heroic defender of the Earth, the evil villain bent on destruction, and the misunderstood monster who doubles as an anti-hero. Guess what? Each works. Why? Perhaps because the idea of a giant radioactive dinosaur is terrifying on a primal level -- and absolutely freaking awesome!

It’s been over a year since Succession signed off, but some wounds still sting, especially for Cillian Murphy. During the whirlwind press tour for Oppenheimer in early 2024, Murphy confessed he was just as crushed as the rest of us when HBO’s sharpest show ended.
At the time, Murphy had just become Hollywood’s golden boy, picking up accolades left and right for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s biopic. But even as a newly minted Oscar frontrunner, Murphy had a fan moment of his own. In an interview with Variety, he admitted, “I met some of the guys from Succession. Christopher Nolan's 2023 biopic "Oppenheimer" was such a refreshing outlier in the world of blockbusters. Made for $100 million, the film unexpectedly made almost a billion dollars at the box office, startling everyone. This was rare, as Nolan's film was no crowd-pleasing action spectacular, but a biopic, and an incredibly downbeat and heady one at that. It dealt with the bleak morals of inventing a device that can destroy all life and the petty egos of the men who would rather bicker about security clearances than face those morals. Cillian Murphy won an Academy Award for playing J. Robert Oppenheimer, and the film won Best Picture. It was a hit largely because it came out the same day as Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," and many audiences rushed to make it an ironic double feature.
It was also likely a hit because the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer has fascinated people since the 1940s.

The actor has also starred in movies like Knives Out (2019) and its 2022 sequel. Murphy, on the other hand, recently starred in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer(2023), following roles in movies like 28 Days Later (2002), The Dark Knight (2008), and Inception (2010).
Deadline now reports that Craig and Murphy are in talks to star in a new film from director Damien Chazelle. The film is currently untitled, but the report suggests that it will be set in a prison. Chazelle has already written the script and will produce with Olivia Hamilton through their Wild Chickens Production banner. The movie also already has distribution planned through Paramount.

Daniel Craig and Cillian Murphy are in talks to star in Damien Chazelle’s upcoming untitled film, which takes place in a prison, TheWrap has learned.
Chazelle will direct and has written the script. He will also produce alongside Olivia Hamilton under their Wild Chickens Productions banner.
Paramount Pictures is distributing the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s “Babylon” follow-up.
Chazelle was previously working on a biopic about legendary daredevil Evel Knievel which had Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star. DiCaprio dropped out of the Knievel project to work on another project with Martin Scorsese, freeing up Chazelle to work on the untitled prison drama.
Craig most recently starred in A24’s “Queer,” and will next be seen in his third Benoit Blanc mystery thriller, “Wake Up Dead Man,” which will premiere on Netflix later this year. Craig recently retired as James Bond in 2021’s “No Time to Die.” Before shooting the Chazelle prison drama,...

Daniel Craig and Cillian Murphy are in negotiations to star in Damien Chazelle’s untitled prison movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Paramount will distribute the drama which is being produced by Chazelle and Olivia Hamilton via their Wild Chickens Productions shingle.
Plot details are being kept in solitary but it is being described as a two-hander set in a prison.
A late year start of production is being eyed.
The feature is a pivot for the La La Land filmmaker who only months ago was in prep for a summer shoot for his Evel Knievel biopic that was to star Leonardo DiCaprio. But DiCaprio, after months of talks, made his own pivot, deciding to reteam with Martin Scorsese one more time due to the legendary filmmaker’s advancing age. (The Taxi Driver and Goodfellas director is 82.)
A one point, Chazelle was working with DiCaprio on the prison project before the two focused on Kneivel.

In recent years, Florence Pugh has become one of the most celebrated and recognizable actresses of her generation. Since giving her breakout performance in the 2016 drama “Lady Macbeth,” Pugh has starred in an impressively varied array of movies, dipped her toes into two popular franchises and even nabbed a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for herself in 2020. Now, Pugh is returning to movie screens around the world in “Thunderbolts*,” the Marvel crossover film that sees her emerge as the unlikely leader of a team of misfits and comic book anti-heroes.
In honor of her return as Yelena Belova in “Thunderbolts*,” here are Pugh’s five best movies, ranked.

The modern era of Hollywood only has a handful of true movie stars. The definition of the role has changed fundamentally over the years as the studio system morphed and shifted, and as a result, the amount of undeniably bankable stars the studios actually want to invest in has dwindled. But in the small handful that still remains, Florence Pugh shines as one of the brightest and best movie stars we have today.
She is absolutely fearless in front of the camera, and her taste in roles supports her obvious drive to find the most exciting and challenging ways to build her craft. Though her career has been, realistically, quite short so far, Pugh has already established herself as a risk-taker, and because of that, audiences are excited to show up when she makes the choice to lend her skills to a project. Honestly, she's rarely in something that doesn't deserve high praise.

Who knew Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Oppenheimer could share more than just explosive endings? While Rogue One takes us to a galaxy far, far away with its tragic tale of Galen Erso building the Death Star, Oppenheimer pulls us into the real world with J. Robert Oppenheimer’s regretful role in creating the atomic bomb.
Both stories dive deep into the minds of brilliant creators who found themselves responsible for weapons of mass destruction, only to be haunted by their creations. Whether it’s a planet-killing laser or nuclear devastation, the theme of regret and unintended consequences runs through both like a death star-sized thread. It’s wild to think about how these seemingly different worlds share such dark, powerful connections. Ready to explore this mind-bending link? Buckle in, because the connection is more epic than you’d expect!

Top Christopher Nolan movies at Box Office (Photo Credit – Instagram)
With Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan not only tackled complex themes but also achieved massive box-office success, proving that you can make an emotionally charged, intellectual film and still rake in the big bucks. The film broke records and left audiences in awe, but interestingly, it’s not even Nolan’s highest-grossing movie to date!
That’s right, despite its impressive earnings, Oppenheimer takes a backseat to a few other Nolan flicks. The filmmaker has been on a roll for decades, pushing the limits of what a summer blockbuster can be while packing in deep philosophical musings. From time manipulation to psychological twists, Nolan’s movies have become synonymous with big ideas and even bigger paydays. So, let’s dive into his top five highest-grossing films and see how the man has cracked the code for success.

The Current Debate connects the dots around a topic of the critical conversation.Anora.Remember Cord Jefferson’s plea at last year’s Oscars? Picking up his Best Adapted Screenplay award for American Fiction (2023), the director chided the industry for being “risk-averse,” and suggested that, “instead of making one $200 million movie,” producers should spread those resources to make room for more diverse and bolder voices. “Try making twenty $10 million movies,” he said, “or fifty $4 million movies.” Jefferson was of course alluding to Oppenheimer (2023), Christopher Nolan’s thunderous portrait of “father of the atomic bomb” J. Robert Oppenheimer, a $100-million Best Picture winner that racked up seven statuettes and nearly a billion dollars at the box office. A year later, a cursory glance at the list of 2025 Oscar winners might make you think the industry did, in fact, heed the call. It’s not that there were no big-budget films among...

He might have recently appeared in Christopher Nolan's award-winning film, Oppenheimer, wherein he played the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a performance for which he won an Oscar. Cillian Murphy's role as Tommy Shelby in the crime thriller, Peaky Blinders, across six seasons, is arguably the actor's most significant role of his career so far. The Peaky Blinders franchise is set to expand with a seventh outing, as the upcoming movie, The Immortal Man, will likely wrap up Tommy's run as the Birmingham-based crime boss. Looking back, Murphy reveals what exactly has made the show extremely popular globally.
Set on the streets of Birmingham in the early 20th century, Peaky Blinders follows the story of the Shelby family's rise through the criminal underworld of Birmingham from the 1880s to the 1920s. In hindsight, Murphy acknowledges that the show's early audience, who helped spread the word about the show,...

Even with an Academy Award under his belt and roles like J. Robert Oppenheimer, Scarecrow, and Jim from "28 Days Later," Cillian Murphy's most important role will always be Thomas Shelby, leader of the "Peaky Blinders." Beginning in 2013, the show chronicled the story of the Shelby family's rise through the criminal underworld of Birmingham from the 1880s to the 1920s. With guest appearances from people like Adrien Brody, Tom Hardy, and "Adolescence" star and co-creator Stephen Graham, the show has continued to go from strength to strength with six seasons of "Peaky Blinders" and the planned movie, "The Immortal Man." However, in hindsight, Murphy acknowledges that the show wouldn't be the worldwide hit it's become without the audience that had been there since the beginning and spread the word of just what kind of show others were missing out on.

Why Did Cillian Murphy Skip Science Lessons During Oppenheimer? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Cillian Murphy didn’t need to crack equations or study nuclear physics to become J. Robert Oppenheimer. Instead, he locked in on the man himself – haunted, brilliant, and deeply conflicted. While most actors might’ve dived headfirst into science prep, Murphy refused.
“I’m interested in the man and what [inventing the atomic bomb] does to the individual. The mechanics of it, that’s not really for me,” he told The Guardian. He admitted he skipped science lessons altogether, saying, “I don’t have the intellectual capability to understand them.”
For Cillian Murphy, it was all about emotion over education. And that choice made sense, considering who was directing. Oppenheimer marked his sixth collaboration with Christopher Nolan, but he took center stage this time. The film, based on American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, told the story of the...

Did Robert Downey Jr. Ever Roast A Christopher Nolan Movie? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Robert Downey Jr. once threw serious shade at a Christopher Nolan movie. Fast forward to 2021, and he walked straight into the heart of one and walked out with an Oscar. Talk about a bridge well burned, then casually rebuilt with gold.
Back in 2008, Downey was riding high off Iron Man and Tropic Thunder. Around the same time, The Dark Knight dropped and blew up pop culture. But Downey didn’t understand the hype. He openly admitted the film just wasn’t his thing and called it overly cerebral.
The MCU star jokingly added that he’d probably need a college degree to understand what was happening. DC Comics didn’t escape the roast, either. He cracked that it just wasn’t for him. Still, Robert Downey Jr. made it clear he was half-kidding. He shrugged off the remarks,...

Oppenheimer actor Jack Quaid recalls the surprising complement he got from Christopher Nolan, despite his limited role. Hitting theaters in 2023, Nolan's World War II historical epic about J. Robert Oppenheimer's creation of the first atomic bomb was a massive hit both critically and commercially, with Cillian Murphy playing the titular theoretical physicist. Oppenheimer features a star-studded cast to bring its abundance of historical figures to life, with Quaid, who is well known for starring in The Boys and a new action comedy called Novocaine (2024), playing a small role as real-life scientist Richard Feynman.
In a recent interview with Men's Health, Quaid looks back on his time filming Oppenheimer, revealing that Nolan gave him a unique complement for his bongo-playing performance during a scene set at Christmas. Quaid features sparingly in the scene in question, but the director still took the time to tell the actor that he was "impressed.

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer was an unsurprising success in the summer of 2023. The biographical film competed against Greta Gerwig's Barbie in a cultural phenomenon known as "Barbenheimer," effectively boosting the box office numbers for both films. Similar to Barbie, there are a lot of actors in Oppenheimer, some of whom are relatively big but have very small roles. One of these individuals is Academy Award-nominated actor Florence Pugh.
Pugh was already a well-known name before Oppenheimer, which was probably part of the reason why she was cast in the first place. The actor had supporting roles in Black Widow and Little Women, the latter of which earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also had roles that solidified her as a leading actor in Midsommar, Don't Worry Darling and The Wonder. It might strike people as kind of odd that Pugh is hardly featured in Oppenheimer.

Here’s How Cillian Murphy’s Gaze Became Challenging For Oppenheimer Cast (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Cillian Murphy’s performance in Oppenheimer was spectacularly distracting. And we’re not saying that. Some of his co-stars said so when discussing what it was like to share the screen with him. Matt Damon, who played General Leslie Groves in Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus, alluded that Murphy’s piercing blue eyes made it difficult to stay in character.

No other war captures the imaginations of film directors like World War 2. It's an easy war to romanticize with stories of heroism, high-stakes political drama, and colossal aerial battles. It's important to note that war is more grueling and complex than most movies would show, and a few special World War 2 films focus on showing the harsh reality of the war.
Realistic World War 2 movies can focus on both powerful, famous figures or the everyday person. Some of these films are based on real feats so shocking one would think they were fictional, while others are made-up narratives filmed in a way that makes them feel lifelike. Nothing captures the human condition as well as an accurate World War 2 movie.
Letters From Iwo Jima Shows a New Perspective
To say that it is rare for a Hollywood movie to take the perspective of the Japanese during World War II is a serious understatement.

The period biographical thriller, starring Cillian Murphy as the theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, was also re-released in three venues equipped to present it in IMAX 70 mm, Nolan's preferred format. Oppenheimer emerged as a record-breaking box office hit when it was released in July 2023, ultimately concluding its run several months later with nearly $1 billion in global box office revenue.

Will there ever be another Hulk movie? Oh, I'm sure Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner will pop back up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon, probably in "Avengers: Doomsday" and/or "Secret Wars." But due to Universal Pictures maintaining ownership over some Hulk movie rights, Marvel Studios can currently only feature him as a member of an ensemble.
Marvel Studios' first and only solo Hulk film wasn't a big success. 2008's "The Incredible Hulk" got a middling response and still stands as the series' earliest black sheep. That movie's star, Edward Norton, was recast and the film only got a direct sequel recently in, of all pictures, "Captain America: Brave New World." This time, he’s tackling weightier themes, drawing parallels between Shiva’s cosmic dance and modern scientific theories, while...
