Critters 3 (1991) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
Gremlins may have stopped at only 2 movies and a recent animated TV show, but a lot of its imitators went on to make a killing in the sequel market. Sure, we had one offs like Munchies from Roger Corman and Goobers from the mind of Charles Band which should have rightfully stayed one and done but others wanted in on that franchise action. The Gate would have 2 entries as would Hobgoblins. Troll would get a few sequels, kinda, if you want to go down the rabbit hole of strange Italian sequels in name only that are just called that to capitalize on the profits of other movies and Ghoulies would somehow, miraculously, get 4 films although if I’m being honest, I actually enjoy watching that series. Critters also had 4 (initially) but has a much stronger legacy in terms of enjoyment and interesting background including the fact that even though it came out after Gremlins,...

‘Critters 2’: Still the Definitive Easter Horror Movie 36 Years Later
Image
Christmas and Halloween reign supreme in terms of holiday-themed horror to the point that every other holiday pales in comparison when it comes to horror offerings. Easter does have a few selections to offer, but many of them don’t lean into any familiar holiday motifs. Then there are the horror films that get lumped in simply because the villain bears likeness to the Easter bunny. It can be slim pickings. That’s okay, though, because we really only need one solid horror movie to celebrate Easter with. One that isn’t afraid to spill some Easter bunny blood.

Critters 2: The Main Course is that definitive Easter horror movie.

Co-written by David Twohy (Warlock, Pitch Black) and director Mick Garris (The Stand, Masters of Horror), Critters 2 makes clever use of the holiday as a means to implement those remaining Crite eggs stashed away in a barn from the end of Critters.

Leonardo DiCaprio's First Ever Movie Has 0% On Rotten Tomatoes (Is It That Bad?)
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio continues to be one of the biggest stars in the film industry, and while he has starred in many critically acclaimed movies, his very first movie holds an impressive 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Leonardo DiCaprio’s acting career began in 1991, but his big break arrived in 1993 with the coming-of-age drama What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Since then, DiCaprio has been unstoppable, starring in a variety of movies and earning the praise of critics and viewers. After many nominations and becoming the subject of countless memes, DiCaprio’s talent was finally recognized by The Academy when he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Revenant.

DiCaprio was a huge star in the 1990s thanks to projects like Baz Luhrmann’s romantic crime movie Romeo + Juliet and James Cameron’s disaster drama Titanic. DiCaprio’s popularity continued in the 2000s with movies like The Beach,...

‘Critters’ (1986)
Image
Critters is a 1986 American science fiction horror comedy film written and directed by Stephen Herek. It stars Dee Wallace, Scott Grimes, M. Emmet Walsh and Billy Zane.

The plot of the movie follows four small alien creatures, which were accidentally brought to Earth from their home planet by a space probe, as they wreak havoc on a rural Kansas town while being pursued by an intergalactic bounty hunter. Along the way, they meet up with Charlie (Grimes), his brother Brad (Billy Zane) and the local police chief (Walsh). The critters must evade capture and find a way back home before their appetite for destruction leaves the town in ruins.

The special effects used for the Critters range from puppetry to robotics. They have been described as “fuzzy rodents with razor-sharp teeth and an appetite for human flesh”. Although initially thought of as evil creatures that only wanted to cause mayhem and harm people,...

Critters Attack! Actress Dee Wallace Reveals Why She Returned to the Franchise
Critters (1986)
As some of you fellow horror movie fans out there might already know, this summer an all-new Critters movie is headed our way on digital and Blu-ray starring the original film's actress Dee Wallace (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). And today Wallace spoke a bit about what enticed her to return to the franchise all of these years later for director Bobby Miller's Critters Attack!.

"I was so happy when they sent me the reboot of Critters. My first question was is this going to be CGI? And they said no, [they] were going to use a lot of the original design of the puppets. It's all going to be puppets. And I went, 'oh, let me read the script.' I liked the script, and I liked my part in it - she's a real ball-buster - but my first concern was if this was going to be CGI. Because in a film like that,...

Alien (1979)
10 Horror Movies That Went to Space
Alien (1979)
"In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream!" But can they hear Jason smash computer generated teenagers zipped up in virtual sleeping bags into each other? Can they hear the Leprechaun turn on his green lightsaber? What about Pinhead? Hear him? Everybody loves critically acclaimed sci-fi/horror mash-up fare like Alien, a stone cold cinema classic. But let's not overlook those guilty pleasure slasher franchises, either. What else can we do with the Leprechaun? I know! Leprechaun in Space! Today, we look at 10 times horror movies went to space.

Alien (1979)

First and foremost we must acknowledge Alien, the 1979 sci-fi horror film directed by Ridley Scott. Dan O'Bannon was ready to throw in the towel after a grueling preproduction on a proposed Dune movie went nowhere. As a last ditch effort, he came up with a story called Star Beast, together with Ronald Shusett, who later returned for 2004's Alien vs. Predator.

Ode to Roger Corman, Part 1: Galaxy of Terror
By Fred Burdsall

If I were to make a list of my favorite directors it would look like this: 1. Alfred Hitchcock 2. Dario Argento 3. Ridley Scott 4. Lucio Fulci and 5. Roger Corman. Why Roger Corman? If you hand him half a mil and say “I need this pic by the end of the week”… he’ll deliver. Let’s see the almighty Spielberg do that. Roger Corman is the king of making something for nothing and we are the better for it because his movies are what movies should be…Fun. I would love to see what he could do with a budget and a solid script, but that won’t happen, so let’s accept him as the low budget God he is.

The list of people who have worked for him is ridiculous. Nicholson, Scorsese, Cameron, Coppola and a boatload of actors who’ve all made a mark on the...
