In Taken, Neeson plays Bryan Mills, a former CIA agent whose teenage daughter Kim and her friend Amanda are kidnapped by human traffickers while on vacation in France. Determined to rescue them, Bryan uses all his skills to track down the kidnappers and save the girls.

The movie also stars Maggie Grace, Leland Orser, Jon Gries, David Warshofsky, Katie Cassidy, Holly Valance, and Famke Janssen.

The film first hit theaters in France on February 27, 2008. Though it received mixed reviews from critics, it became a big financial success, making $226 million worldwide on a budget of just $25 million.

Se7en Turns 30: Brad Pitt’s Best Thriller Inspired 63% Rt Denzel Washington Movie That Felt Wasted
Image
Se7en is David Fincher’s timeless classic, and its influence can be felt in most crime thrillers that came after it, for example, Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie’s starrer, The Bone Collector. The two movies feel like they belong to the same universe, but ultimately, the latter felt short.

The Phillip Noyce directorial feels like a shadow of a masterpiece released just four years earlier because both movies have grim crime plots, twisted killers, and neo-noir aesthetics. Despite their similarities, only one of them became a defining entry in the thriller genre and remains one of the most critically revered movies of all time.

What elements does the Denzel Washington thriller draw from Se7en? A still from The Bone Collector | Credits: Universal Pictures

On the surface, it seems like The Bone Collector and Se7en are cut from the same cloth. They both follow a rookie cop...

Every Action Movie Streaming for Free on Tubi in February 2025
Image
Tubi has become one of the world's most popular streaming services thanks to its ad-supported model. Certainly, people are more inclined to purchase premium subscriptions because they will be able to access exclusive content, although Tubi is just as good, if not better, than many streaming options. The reason for this is that there are plenty of movies available on the platform, and when they are divided into genres such as Western, action, horror, and comedy, you will find Tubi to be a highly reliant platform.

Speaking of action movies, there are hundreds of exciting action movies available across various streaming platforms, but Tubi offers them for free on a monthly basis, adding some of the most iconic titles to the roster despite being from third-party providers. Having said that, who doesn't enjoy watching action flicks every now and then? Films like Taken and Die Hard, in particular, are cult...

Law & Order: Svu Season 26, Episode 9 Case Is Based On A More Harrowing Real-Life Crime: Gisèle Pelicot's Case Explained
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Law & Order: Svu season 26, episode 9, "First Light."

This article contains references to drug-facilitated sexual assault and to a graphic real-life crime of this nature.

Law & Order: Svu season 26, episode 9, "First Light," was based on the chilling real-life Gisèle Pelicot case. Many cases in the Law & Order franchise are based on real-life crimes. Law & Order: Svu's creepiest cases tend to be ripped from the headlines. Sometimes the series changes details, making it less obvious who the story is based on, Other episodes are more thinly disguised fictionalizations of shocking cases. The series does its best to be sensitive to real-life victims and avoid retraumatizing them through its stories, though it sometimes uses real-life quotes as dialogue.

Law & Order: Svu season 26 has already featured several cases based on real-life crimes. "Rorschach," which aired earlier in the season, was an obvious takeoff of the Gabby Petito case,...

Liam Neeson's 'Taken' and 'Taken 3' Headed to Hulu on February 1
Image
In 2008, Liam Neeson's career changed forever with the release of the now-beloved action thriller Taken. The actor became widely known as the man with a particular set of skills, one that helps him rescue his daughter in a foreign country after she is kidnapped. The film spawned a full-fledged franchise with two sequels, but they failed to recapture the magic of the first. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped Taken fans from enjoying them all the same. And they will be able to do so on Hulu, when Taken and Taken 3 become available on the streaming platform starting February 1.

Currently available on Max before it arrives on Hulu, Taken was the film that started the pop culture phenomenon and made Neeson's ex-CIA agent a household name. The story follows Brian Mills as he travels to Europe in search of his missing daughter, Kim, played by Maggie Grace, who was kidnapped by human traffickers.

Denzel Washington's 10 Best Crime Movies
Image
Denzel Washington has developed a reputation as one of the greatest actors of his generation, and many of his best movies have come in the crime genre. Washington has a habit of playing different law enforcement officials, whether they are detectives, federal agents or private investigators. Often, when he takes a foray into an unfamiliar genre, like sci-fi or Westerns, he does so in a movie that still deploys many tropes and traditions of the crime genre.

Washington's best crime movies have a surprising range of genres and styles. There are more comedic and intelligent puzzles like Inside Man, as well as brutal action flicks like the Equalizer franchise. No matter what kind of character he's playing, Washington always seems to bring his A-game to the crime genre. He has even earned some awards for his performances in the crime genre.

The Best CIA Movies Ever
Image
Since its inception, Hollywood has made several films dedicated to stories of espionage, intelligence, and secret agencies. One of the most referenced real-world agencies in the film industry is the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), best known for carrying out American intelligence operations overseas. Despite its real-world mission statement to serve American national security interests, Hollywood doesn't always play up its best aspects.

The CIA has been cast in a variety of ways by Hollywood, from nefarious criminal conspiracies to daring rescue operations. Due to the shadowy nature of the agency in real life, its true nature has remained open to interpretation. Although some films heavily fictionalize both the capabilities and goals of the agency, others have opted for more realistic approaches. The agency has been the source of controversy, both on and off the film, but some movies have done a great job with it.

Alien (1979)
Alien: Resurrection (1997) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Alien (1979)
A new episode of the Revisited video series has arrived online this morning – and since the latest entry in the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, is currently in theatres, we decided this would be a good time to look back at one of the least popular Alien movies, the 1997 release Alien: Resurrection (watch it Here). In the video embedded above, you’ll hear how this film’s odd and wacky tone managed to kill the franchise. For a while, anyway.

Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet from a screenplay written by Joss Whedon, Alien: Resurrection has the following synopsis: The saga continues 200 years after Ripley sacrificed herself for the sake of humanity. Her erstwhile employers long gone, this time it is the military that resurrects the one-woman killing machine through genetic cloning to extract the alien from within her, but during the process her DNA is fused with the queen and then the aliens escape.

Liam Neeson's Taken is Now Streaming on Max
Image
Liam Neesons action blockbuster Taken could have been another inconsequential throwback to action movies of the 1980s, but instead the film completely changed the actors career path. Neeson had been mostly known for his role in dramas such as Schindlers List, the comedy Love, Actually, and, of course, his venture into the Star Wars universe as Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace, but Taken changed all that overnight. After being available to rent or buy on various platforms, the movie has now found a streaming home on Max.

Taken stars Neeson as Bryan Mills, a former CIA agent whose daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers, leading him to make an often parodied speech to her captors, and embark on a brutal mission to save her. The movie, directed by Pierre Morel, combined its emotional father/daughter story with plenty of action sequences that appealed to audiences on a huge scale.

Star Trek: DS9 Writer Begged, Insisted, Screamed, Pleaded For A Big Romulan Change
Image
Ronald D. Moore spearheaded a sleeker Romulan costume design with narrower shoulder pads in DS9, because he "hated" the quilted Tng uniforms. DS9 radically improved diplomatic relations between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire, something which Star Trek: Nemesis built upon. Changing Romulan-Federation relations took a hit with Abrams' Star Trek movie, undoing DS9's progress.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine introduced several changes to the Romulans, but one particular alteration was made at the behest of writer Ronald D. Moore. After Star Trek: The Next Generation ended, Moore joined the staff of DS9 for season 3, which had several episodes involving a tentative alliance between the Romulan Star Empire and the Federation. The season 3 opener, "The Search, Part I" revealed that the Romulans had provided DS9's USS Defiant with a cloaking device so they could covertly acquire intel on the Dominion. Subsequent season 3 episodes revealed just what the...

The $226M Thriller That Completely Changed Liam Neeson's Career Is Now On Streaming
Image
Liam Neeson's role in Taken transformed him from a respected dramatic actor to a beloved action star. Taken struck a chord with audiences by showcasing a parent's quest to save their child under extreme circumstances. Despite mixed reviews from critics, Taken remains one of the high points in Neeson's action career, often imitated but rarely bettered.

The classic 2008 thriller that turned Liam Neeson from a respected dramatic actor into a beloved action star is now streaming on Max, and its still one of the high points of his career. After landing early roles in Excalibur and The Dead Pool, Neeson first rose to fame with his turn as Oskar Schindler in Steven Spielbergs harrowing Holocaust drama Schindlers List in 1993, which earned him a much-deserved Oscar nomination for Best Actor. This led to other leading roles in historical biopics, like 1995s Rob Roy and 1996s Michael Collins.

Alien: Resurrection director Jean-Pierre Jeunet looks back on the making of the wild sequel – Exclusive!

Alien and Aliens are two of the most highly respected and beloved sci-fi horror films ever made… and all of the films that have followed have either been divisive in one way or another, or just flat-out poorly received. One of the least popular entries in the franchise is the 1997 installment Alien: Resurrection (watch it Here), which put some fans off with its wild and weird tone and its crazy ideas. Rosie O'Donnell 'Didn't Love' American Gigolo, Describes Difficulties Working With Jon Bernthal
Image
Perhaps it was all for the best that Showtime's American Gigolo series only lasted one season. Based on the 1980 film by director Paul Schrader, the TV series adaptation premiered on Showtime last fall. Months later, it was revealed that the show had been canceled after one season, and given the rather rotten reviews, the news was not the surprise of the century.

In the show, Jon Bernthal plays Julian "Johnny" Kaye, a man who seeks employment as a sex worker after his release from prison, having served 15 years for a murder he was wrongfully accused of. One of his co-stars was Rosie O'Donnell, who played Detective Joan Sunday. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, O'Donnell admitted how she "didn't love" the series, agreeing with the critics' consensus. She also shared how it wasn't a fun set to be on either, claiming that it was "difficult' to work with...

Joss Whedon has never made his intense dislike for Alien Resurrection a secret, but in pointing the finger elsewhere he overlooks the issues inherent in his own screenplay. The Alien franchise was intended to come to a close with 1992's Alien 3, which went through a notoriously difficult production and ended with the death of Sigourney Weaver's Ripley. Despite the latter's mixed reception, Fox later greenlit another sequel and hired an up-and-coming Joss Whedon to write. His original concept saw Aliens' Newt being resurrected, but during development, the studio requested it focus on a Ripley clone instead.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet soon came on as director, with Alien Resurrection arriving in 1997. The fourth outing is regarded as something of a dud thanks to its goofy tone and over-the-top action sequences. While it's not a fan favorite, Resurrection still has its defenders. Weaver is having a lot of fun as Ripley's clone,...

‘American Gigolo,’ ‘Let the Right One In’ Canceled at Showtime Ahead of Paramount+ Merger
Image
Ahead of the Showtime and Paramount+ merger, Paramount Global is cleaning house. “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In,” two drama series that premiered last year, have been canceled at the channel, IndieWire has confirmed.

In addition, Showtime will no longer be proceeding with the series “Three Women,” starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise, and Gabrielle Creevy. The series, which finished principal production, will be shopped to other outlets, and “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In” are also reportedly being shopped.

Paramount Global announced the integration of Showtime into Paramount+ across both streaming and linear television on January 30, revealing it will occur “later this year.” Rather than just offering Showtime on the Paramount+ app, Showtime Ott and Showtime linear will be rebranded to “Paramount+ with Showtime,” and the Showtime Ott and Anytime apps will be shut down, IndieWire is told. Showtime was previously made available on...

‘Three Women’ Shelved, ‘Let the Right One In’ and ‘American Gigolo’ Canceled as Showtime Folds Into Paramount+
Image
Though production on the Shailene Woodley-led drama “Three Women” has already been completed, the series will no longer premiere on Showtime, which has also decided not to renew “Let the Right One In” and “American Gigolo.” The three series are the first known casualties as Paramount moves the Showtime brand moves under the purview of Paramount+ and reprioritizes its content.

Paramount CEO Bob Bakish announced on Monday that Showtime’s cable network would be renamed to “Paramount+ With Showtime” while its streaming service would collapse into Paramount+, noting that the company “will divert investment away from areas that are underperforming and that account for less than 10 of our views. We have already begun conversations with our production partners about what content makes sense moving forward and which shows have franchise potential.”

Adapted from Lisa Taddeo’s novel of the same name, “Three Women” landed at Showtime after a competitive bidding war.

Jon Bernthal in American Gigolo (2022)
‘American Gigolo’ Review: Showtime Series Comes Close to Squandering Jon Bernthal’s Magnetism
Jon Bernthal in American Gigolo (2022)
There’s little point in comparing Showtime’s “American Gigolo” with the cult film of the same name — the new series borrows the basic premise of Paul Schrader’s exceptionally stylish neo-noir, along with a few characters, then sets them adrift in a rote crime drama. Where the original “American Gigolo” captured the excess of the 1980s while presenting a captivating portrait of loneliness, its supposed sequel struggles to find purpose or even settle on a tone in its first three episodes.

So, thank God and/or casting director Wendy O’Brien for placing Jon Bernthal, who’s already turned in one extraordinarily kinetic performance this year, at the center of this otherwise meandering murder mystery. The “We Own This City” actor leads the series as Julian Kaye, a sex worker who’s wrongfully convicted for murder, imprisoned for 15 years, and exonerated — all in the hourlong series premiere. This too recalls the film’s narrative,...

How to Watch ‘American Gigolo': Where Is the Jon Bernthal Series Streaming?
Jon Bernthal in American Gigolo (2022)
“American Gigolo,” Showtime’s “present-day reimagining” of Paul Schrader’s 1980 erotic drama of the same name, first began as an idea gestating at Jerry Bruckheimer Television in 2014. According to executive producer Jonathan Littman, the show — which stars Jon Bernthal in the role originated by Richard Gere — once had Jared Leto attached to play the suave, high-end escort.

Not entirely a reboot and certainly not a remake, the series picks up 15 years after Julian Kaye (Bernthal) was framed for a murder he didn’t commit. Following his exoneration, Julian must once navigate the treacherous world of L.A. elites, all the while navigating who betrayed him in the first place.

Read on to find out where, when and how to watch “American Gigolo”:

American Gigolo TV Review
Image
Plot: Follows Julian Kaye after his wrongful conviction release from 15 years in prison as he navigates his complicated relationships with his former lover Michelle, his troubled mother, and the people who betrayed him. While Julian struggles to reconcile the escort he was in the past and the man he is today, Detective Sunday seeks the truth about the murder that sent Julian to prison all those years ago, unearthing a much larger conspiracy along the way.

Review: Paul Schrader’s 1980 drama American Gigolo is primarily remembered for two things: serving as the film that launched Richard Gere to stardom and for featuring Blondie’s hit song “Call Me” as its main theme. In the four decades since it premiered, American Gigolo has remained a well-regarded yet underseen film that helped define the look and style of 80s films and culture. While Schrader’s film is certainly worth a look, it...

American Gigolo Trailer: Jon Bernthal Solves A Murder In This Steamy Showtime Thriller
Image
Over 30 years after "American Gigolo" launched Richard Gere's career, the film is getting a TV adaptation with another suave leading man in the starring role. Jon Bernthal is taking over the reins as Julian Kaye, a former male escort who spent years being the object of affection until a murder charge landed him in prison. The series almost works as a direct sequel to the original film: picking up 15 years later, Julian is exonerated when new evidence comes to light proving he did not commit the murder that got him put away. But while trying to get back into his old scene, he realizes that picking up where he left off isn't as simple as he'd like. So he does as TV characters so often do, and gets to work trying to solve the murder himself.

Per the synopsis, Julian must navigate "his complicated relationships with his former lover...

Second Trailer for Showtime's 'American Gigolo' with Jon Bernthal
Image
"Somebody set me up… It's not over!!" Showtime has revealed the second trailer for American Gigolo, a new streaming series remake of the 1980 film of the same name. The first trailer was quite impressive and totally sold me, this one adds to that buzz. This series stars the ultimate suave guy Jon Bernthal, taking on the very same role that was played by Richard Gere in the original film. Showtime's American Gigolo is a present-day reimagining of the iconic 1980 film. Julian Kaye has always been an object of desire, so much so that people are willing to destroy him in order to have him. Exonerated, after 15 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit, he now faces the challenge of picking up the pieces as the detective who put him behind bars tries to unravel the mystery that led to his wrongful incarceration. Also with Gretchen Mol, Gabriel Labelle,...
