- Is probably best known for playing deranged and morally degenerate characters both in movies and on television, e.g. in The Bone Collector (1999), Alien Resurrection (1997) or the organic-hating hologram in the Star Trek: Voyager (1995) episode Revulsion (1997). Among other psychotic roles, also played the deranged blood bank technician from the Star Trek: Enterprise (2001) episode Carpenter Street (2003).
- The two killers from the beginning of A History of Violence (2005) (who meet their end in the café) are named Leland Jones and William Orser as an inside joke by David Cronenberg, who acted with Orser in Resurrection (1999).
- Attended Cathedral School for Boys in San Francisco.
- Eloped and married his first wife, Roma Downey, in a Roman Catholic ceremony in Rome, Italy.
