He got his start as an actor in 2004 and quickly picked up a recurring television role on Invasion when he was only 17. Despite his young age, he proved himself and ended up finding a lot of success, especially on the small screen in horror and science fiction genre series.

Over his career, Peters has won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. Peters also has earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor, and he is still in the prime of his career, with plenty of big roles ahead of him. In 2025, Peters joins the cast of the Tron franchise, and it remains to be seen what his career looks like as he continues.

Donnie Darko 4K
Image
The 4K Ultra HD crowd has a treat in store, for Donnie Boy is back for theatrical quality home screenings. Richard Kelly’s dreamy/morbid teen fantasy has gained in stature in the twenty years (gasp) since the nasty bunny-man ‘Frank’ raised his ugly chrome head… and young Donald’s psychic sci-fi ordeal seems more relevant than ever. Arrow’s 4K-only release shows the label once again proving its mettle in the hard media video biz, with full-res encodings of both the theatrical and director’s extended cuts.

The Donnie Darko 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray 2-Disc Limited Edition Collector’s Set will be available April 27th from Arrow Video

I Want You To Watch The Movie Screen. There S Something I Want To Show You.

Donnie is a troubled high school student: in therapy, prone to sleepwalking and in possession of an imaginary friend, a six-foot rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world is going to end in 28 days, 06 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds. During that time he will navigate teenage life, narrowly avoid death in the form of a falling jet engine, follow Frank s maladjusted instructions and try to maintain the space-time continuum.Donnie Darko combines an eye-catching, eclectic cast pre-stardom Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, heartthrob Patrick Swayze, former child star Drew Barrymore, Oscar nominees Mary McDonnell and Katharine Ross, and television favorite Noah Wyle and an evocative soundtrack of 80s classics by Echo and the Bunnymen,...

Southland Tales
Image
It takes too many words to properly describe Richard Kelly’s followup to Donnie Darko, but the oversized dystopian sci-fi epic just might grab audiences looking for weird extravagance. Cult hosannas aside, Kelly’s ‘crazy’ predictions closely resemble our present domestic chaos. Brilliant ideas rub shoulders with apocalyptic clichés and the acting styles are all over the place, but the show frequently achieves a truly goofy vibe described by its director as a cross between Philip K. Dick and Thomas Pynchon. Just be ready for a storyline that scatters in all directions. This new disc is a video debut for the original, longer Cannes preview cut.

20 Crazy Behind-The-Scenes Revelations About Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko is a 2001 movie that was written and directed by Richard Kelly. It follows Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) as he tries to navigate high school and life, only to discover that the world he lives in is not exactly what he thinks it is on the surface.

When the movie initially premiered, it didn't do well in theaters, largely due to its subject matter. It debuted just after 9/11 and featured a plane engine crashing into a house.

Eventually, the beautifully intriguing and original movie found its audiences and it has steadily grown in popularity over the years.

In 2017, it was re-released to a successful run in theaters, in 4K, for its 15th anniversary. There's also talk that Richard Kelly will write and direct a sequel to the film.

The movie stars Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal (as Donnie and Elizabeth Darko), Jena Malone (Gretchen Ross), Drew Barrymore (Karen Pomeroy), Noah Wyle...

Donnie Darko
Many weird-world genre bending millennial epics have already dated badly, but not Richard Kelly’s sci-fi / horror / satirical mind-trip about a guy given a glimpse of time travel in another dimension. The wit hasn’t faded and the menace hasn’t cooled, and the cast seems hipper than ever: Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary McDonnell, Patrick Swayze, Noah Wyle, Drew Barrymore, Katharine Ross. Two versions, two formats, no waiting.

Richard Kelly Reflects on ‘Donnie Darko’ and Finding Catharsis in Apocalyptic Narratives
Last year marked the 15-year anniversary of Richard Kelly’s debut cult curio, Donnie Darko. On March 31st, the film will hit theaters once again in a brand-new, director-approved 4K restoration. While the film’s cult-status has elevated it into its own separate canon alongside other 21st-century indie-cult hits, Kelly’s two other films — the positively delirious and daring Southland Tales and the labyrinthine sci-fi period piece The Box — prove that he is a director deserving of much greater consideration. Sadly it’s been about eight years since a new film of his has been in theaters, but the time is surely ripe. Kelly’s visions of the end-times feel just as urgent now as they did when we were first introduced to them back in 2001. And since we’re living in a time when the formerly reclusive Terrence Malick is miraculously pumping out multiple films a year, there’s...

“Donnie Darko” fans from across the pond are in for a treat: Richard Kelly’s cult classic is getting a 4K restoration in time for Christmas. The upcoming Blu-ray release was just announced on Twitter by Kelly, who clarified that both the theatrical and director’s cut will be included along with a bevy of special features. Arrow Films is handling the release, which unfortunately is region-locked — making this another reason to consider an all region-player.

Allison Janney has been cast by Josh Radnor for Liberal Arts, which the How I Met Your Mother star will star in, write and direct [2]. Also Seth Green and Michelle Trachtenberg will appear along Katee Sackhoff in the dark comedy [3] Sexy Evil Genius. Read more about all of these projects after the jump. In the most awkward pairing of site and scoop ever, Bloody Disgusting [4] broke the news of the tween comedy called Fun Size which will feature Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice as a babysitter who takes a young kid to a party on Halloween and loses them. It'll mark the feature debut of Josh Schwartz, the creator of The Oc and Chuck.

Johnny Knoxville, Thomas McDonell and More Join 'Fun Size' Comedy
One of the signature formulas for '80s comedies was the whole "Get everything fixed before mom and dad get back!" gag. That plot was the basic spine for "Risky Business," "Weird Science," "Ferris Bueller," "Adventures in Babysitting," and seemed to peter out around the time of "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead."

Looks like it's making a comeback with the new throwback comedy "Fun Size," which also follows the one-crazy-night trend of "Superbad" but combines it with the awesomeness of Halloween. There hasn't been a truly great Halloween movie since, well, "Halloween."

According to Bloody Disgusting, the night in question revolves around a girl named Wren and her little bro Albert, who sneak off to a party. "The night turns to s**t when Albert goes missing and it becomes a race to find him before ol' mom finds out." Ticking clock, ticking clock!

Sundance Institute: Lucky 14 Join 2011 June Directors and Screenwriters Labs
You and I may not know them now, but plenty of the folks mentioned in the press release below will be among those that we cover in our Park City adventures in the years to come. Following in their natural progression from a workshopped screenplay to practising certain scenes behind the lenses, today the Sundance Institute announced the eight directors who'll be joining them during the June Directors lab and the six writer/filmmakers that'll hit the June Screenwriters Lab. Of the eight projects in the Directors Lab, seven were previously worked on in previous screenwriters labs -- they include: Sara Colangelo (pictured above) who was in Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces 2010 edition, we have Romanian filmmaker Bodgan Mustata (who we previously featured) and Carlo Mirabella-Davis' genre film (not your typical Lab project) will also be included it now goes by the title of The Storm King instead of previous title On Evil.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Unthinkable’ Wastes First-Rate Cast, Solid Premise
Chicago – Samuel L. Jackson is an A-list actor stuck in the persona of a B-movie crowd-pleaser. His preference for schlock has made it difficult for viewers to take him seriously in roles that aren’t intended to be quoted by fanboys at Comic-Con. When his formidable interrogator in “Unthinkable” declares, “What I have to do, Agent Brody, is…unthinkable,” the line hits the exact wrong note of credibility-killing cheese that has marred Jackson’s career.

Of course, Jackson cannot be solely blamed for the multitude of flaws in the direct-to-video thriller “Unthinkable.” Director Gregor Jordan (“The Informers”) and screenwriter Peter Woodward (“Closing the Ring”) continue their slump into forgettable mediocrity by squandering a powerful and topical premise that has been tackled in a variety of recent pictures (the most memorable being “The Dark Knight”). It asks the obvious question of how a war on terror can be won without America...

Review: The Box
This is the review for The Box starring Cameron Diaz, Frank Langella, Gillian Jacobs, Holmes Osborne, James Marsden, James Rebhorn and Sam Oz Stone. It is directed by Richard Kelly. When the nicest thing that can be said about The Box is that it isn't quite as bad as Kelly's previous film; Southland Tales, things don't bode well. It is a tremendous and tragic fall from grace from the apparent visionary behind the cult-hit; Donnie Darko. In perhaps one of the most interesting unravelling-of-a-Hollywood-career stories, the consensus now seems to be that Donnie Darko was a fluke and Richard Kelly is a busted flush. Not because he was denied opportunities to fulfil his creative visions, but because he has mercilessly squandered them.

He's also recruited Wilmer Valderrama, funnyman Cedric the Entertainer, Bryan Cranston and Holmes Osborne for the project, which is due to begin shooting in April.

Tom Hanks Reveals Larry Crowne Cast
Who uses the old-fashioned press release these days? Certainly not Tom Hanks! The Hollywood darling revealed the cast list for his up-coming comedy Larry Crowne on Twitter last weekend.

Thanks to the Twitpic of the casting board he posted, we know that the cast is a mix of established and young up-and-coming actors like Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Cedric The Entertainer, Rami Malek, George Takei, Dale Dye, Peter Scolari, Bryan Cranston, Wilmer Valderrama, Jon Seda, Maria Canals Barrera and Holmes Osborne will feature in Hanks' comedy alongside Julia Roberts and the A-lister himself.

Larry Crowne has been co-written by Tom Hanks and Nia Vardalos and focuses on a man in need of re-invention, who is searching for his perfect new career. Hanks himself could certainly help, having moved from acting into directing, producing and even writing scripts.

"Larry Crowne" Full Cast Announced
In an interesting announcement, actor Tom Hanks revealed the cast for the upcoming Universal Pictures comedy "Larry Crowne" via a photo on his Twitter account.

Hanks snapped a shot of the casting board, something seen in practically every film production office, which displays head shots of all the major lead and supporting roles in the film. Hanks though took the shot at enough of a distance that the names are blurred, leading to many playing "guess the headshot".

From left to right we have: Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Cedric the Entertainer, Rami Malek, George Takei, Dale Dye, Peter Scolari, Bryan Cranston, Wilmer Valderrama, Taraji P. Henson, Malcolm Barrett, Mamie Gummer (unconfirmed), Bob Stephenson, Jon Seda, Maria Canals Barrera and Holmes Osborne.

Mbatha-Raw is best known for her work on British TV in shows like the short-lived "Bonekickers", as the sister of time-travelling former companion Martha Jones in "Doctor Who...

The Box Blu-ray Review
Richard Kelly made a great name for himself with Donnie Darko, but his follow up films show a great visual talent, and someone who gets easily lost in his own ideas. The Box is no exception, though it’s tighter and smarter yet less fascinating that his previous fiasco Southland Tales. James Marsden and Cameron Diaz play a married couple given a gift: a box with a button in it. Frank Langella plays the man who tells them what it’s for: if they press the button, someone they don’t know will die, and they will be given a million dollars. My review of Richard Kelly’s The Box after the jump.

Based on the Richard Matheson short story, before I saw it I had the film described to me as a film that was shortened in editing. My feeling is that it’s a half hour too long.

Blu-Ray Review: Richard Kelly Strains to Think Outside ‘The Box’
Chicago – Most filmmakers are content in recycling ideas. Richard Kelly strains to come up with new ones every time he steps behind a camera. It’s difficult to think of him ever becoming a commercial commodity (thoughts of David Lynch directing “Return of the Jedi” come to mind). Yet Kelly’s boundless ambition has often far exceeded his abilities.

“The Box” is only Kelly’s third feature, and it very well may be his last for quite some time. It’s the kind of film guaranteed to send most mainstream moviegoers running for the hills. Kelly’s first picture, the wonderfully idiosyncratic “Donnie Darko,” is a quintessential portrait of modern teenage angst, though it was abandoned by audiences upon its initial release in October 2001 (they probably weren’t ready to see a plane engine crash into a house). If “Darko” was Kelly’s “Sixth Sense,” then “Southland Tales” was his “Heaven’s Gate.

The Box (Review)
The Box Directed by Richard Kelly Anyone expecting Donnie Darko and Southland Tales director Richard Kelly to finally dial back on his idiosyncrasies in service of a familiar conceit may be surprised to find his peculiar voice very much present in The Box, his third feature. Where initial reports suggested a fairly conventional take on the Twilight Zone-tackled Richard Matheson story "Button, Button," we instead get a warped morality tale dripping with style and jutting out with potential energy in every direction - for better and worse. Cameron Diaz and X-Men's James Marsden star as Norma and Arthur Lewis, a loving married couple living in Langley, Virginia in 1976, where Arthur works for Nasa on their Mars technology and Norma teaches. They're both staring down at financial crises on the day a mysterious stranger (Frank Langella) with a huge facial scar arrives on their doorstep, his appearance preceded by...

Movie Review: “The Box”
Seen on: November 7, 2009

The players: Director: Richard Kelly, Writer: Richard Kelly, Cast: Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, Frank Langella, James Rebhorn, Holmes Osborne

Facts of interest: Based on the story "Button, Button" by Richard Matheson.

The plot: A couple in financial trouble receive a mysterious box and must make an important decision that will change everything.

Our thoughts: Richard Kelly’s latest big-screen experiment “The Box” is a creepy, chaotic, yet highly entertaining supernatural thriller that caught my attention right away and then refused to let go of me until the very end. Not for a second there did I try to resist, because I totally enjoyed the twisted world the film pulled me into.
