The X-Files is celebrating its 32nd anniversary in 2025, having originally premiered on Sept. 10, 1993.

Over the past three decades, Fox's Emmy-winning sci-fi series has remained relevant thanks to its initial nine-season run from 1993 to 2002, two big-screen movies in 1998 and 2008, two revival seasons in 2016 and 2018, and an in-progress diverse reboot from filmmaker Ryan Coogler. Not to mention, series stars David Duchovny (as FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully) make headlines every time they talk about their sometimes-rocky relationship behind the scenes.

In gearing up for today’s 30th anniversary of “The X-Files” premiere, which debuted back on September 10, 1993, I recently re-watched the series finale, titled “The Truth.” Yes, I know Fox’s sci-fi show later spawned two revival seasons in 2016 and 2018, but I’m still calling this episode, which aired on May 19, 2002, the official series finale. When “The Truth” originally aired, fans and critics alike were decidedly mixed on the two-part ender written and directed by series creator Chris Carter. But 21 years later, I can safely say that it’s better than you remember.

Given the numerous, complicated mythology arcs introduced throughout its initial nine-season run, it's surprising that more shows didn't spin off of Chris Carter's 1993 hit show "The X-Files." For the uninitiated, "The X-Files" was about a pair of FBI agents named Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) who were assigned to the Bureau's most unusual cases, often filed under the letter X. The unusual cases often involved alien abductions, man-sized liver flukes, psychics, shape-shifters, psychic photography, and other such paranormal monkeyshines. Much of the show sprung from a sense of paranoia aimed at the United States government and its tendency to hush up the mind-blowing, supernatural truth about the world. Only a believer like Mulder and a skeptic like Scully would have the intelligence and the wherewithal to find the truth.

“The X-Files” is just five weeks away from the premiere of its eleventh season, so don’t be surprised to see more and more footage of what we might look forward to when the iconic sci-fi drama about FBI agents investigating the paranormal returns.

In the video below, stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny explain just what happened at the end of Season 10 — a cliffhanger ending that creator Chris Carter wrote without a guarantee of there being a Season 11 — before we get a quick look at footage from the season to come, including some truly creepy shots that invoke memories of the original series’ classic monster-of-the-week installments.

Beyond more glimpses of Anderson going full action hero, you very briefly see proof that the Lone Gunmen are back (in some form, at least), that the Cigarette-Smoking Man (William B. Davis) is up to no good, and that Mulder and Scully aren’t sleeping alone.

What goes together better than paranormal drama and football? Fox is bringing back the iconic sci-fi series The X-Files in just over a week, with this six-episode event series debuting Sunday, January 24, directly following the Nfc Championship game. During the network's TCA winter tour panel earlier today, Fox showcased a sizzle reel, which features new footage of a UFO crash, an alien running through a field, and a shot that teases the return of another character from the original series.

The footage features a shot of a character speaking on the phone, telling the unknown caller that they have a "problem," since the X-Files have been reopened. The last time we saw The X-Files on the airwaves during its initial run was back in May 2002, so if you watched the series throughout its nine seasons, you may be in need of a refresher on all the key players and integral storylines that make up the core mythology of The X-Files.

A group of retired CIA agents stormed the home video charts last week, with Red sweeping the Blu-ray sales, DVD sales and DVD rental charts, for the week ending January 30.

Secretariat took second place on both the DVD and Blu-ray sales charts, and sixth place on the DVD rentals charts. Although Secretariat took second place in DVD sales, it only sold 62% as many units as Red. Secretariat also finished sixth place on the rental charts. Both Red, from Summit Entertainment, and Secretariat, from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, do not apply the 28-day waiting period on both Netflix and Redbox like several studios do.

Saw: The Final Chapter was the only other notable new release, finishing in third place on all three charts. Takers, which was last week's top-selling disc, dropped all the way to eighth place in DVD sales in just its second week on the shelves. Takers also...

Summit Entertainment has begun working on a sequel to 2010's Red, bringing back the scripting team of Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber to write the new installment.

According to Variety, Summit has not given the green light yet to a second Red, which grossed $90 million domestically following its October release. Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren starred as former CIA agents who are classified as "Red" -- retired, extremely dangerous.

Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber adapted Warren Ellis' comic book for DC.

No production date has been set.

Red was released October 15th, 2010 and stars Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Heidi von Palleske, Jefferson Brown, Karl Urban, Chris Owens, Rebecca Pidgeon, Morgan Freeman. The film is directed by Robert Schwentke.

There were some big surprises at the box office last week as the new romantic comedy Life as We Know It, which was supposed to debut at the top of the charts only took second place. Instead, David Fincher's The Social Network held strong and took the number one spot for a second week in a row. But this weekend the "Facebook Movie" had a tough time retaining its top position against two highly anticipated new movies, Red starring Bruce Willis, which is based on the popular comic book and Jackass 3D, the final film in the big screen trilogy based on the groundbreaking MTV reality series.

Last weekend, most Hollywood insiders predicted that Katherine Heigl's new romantic comedy Life as We Know It would take the top spot at the box office. But the movie came up short and failed to find as large an audience as was expected. While David Fincher's The Social Network held the number one spot for the second week in a row. The "Facebook Movie" will have stiff competition this weekend from two highly anticipated new movies, Red starring Bruce Willis, which is based on the popular comic book and Jackass 3D, the final film in the big screen trilogy based on the groundbreaking MTV reality series.

Naomi Campbell's former agent has accused the British supermodel of once cancelling a promotional appearance for her perfume line on a whim - because she didn't want to walk a flight of stairs.

The catwalk star is facing a court showdown with her former representative Carole White as part of a lawsuit from bosses at cosmetics marketing company Moodform Mission. The beauty executives are suing Campbell for allegedly backing out of a fragrance deal with the company, which saw her release scents such as Naomi Campbell and Seductive Elixir with manufacturers Procter & Gamble.

In an affidavit, obtained by the New York Post, White claims the supermodel failed to meet her obligations to promote the range - and in 2000, scrapped an appearance at a televised awards show in Australia because she refused to use a set of steps.

She says, "Her failure to show was not only embarrassing, but caused friction with (the) Wella (perfume) people in Australia."

And co-director at Moodform Mission, Chris Owen, has alleged Campbell was constantly late for meetings on her promotional tour, and once even tried to attack him with a bottle.

Campbell has filed a counter-suit in the case, alleging she trusted White like "a surrogate mother" and signed the deal without knowing the full details - she's also claimed her former rep concealed her role as a co-director at Moodform.

White's lawyer, Daniel Bright, filed papers asking for Campbell's counter-suit to be dismissed, writing, "The human element that brings the parties before the court is clear: greed, ingratitude and a grotesque sense of entitlement on the part of Campbell that, in her mind, justifies her doing anything she wants to do, including stealing her business partners' money and then lying about what happened."

Campbell has previously called the company's lawsuit "ridiculous and absurd".

At CinemaSpy we get screeners of early episodes of new television series to review. It's particularly satisfying when you get through a batch and want to see more of a show. So it was with The Line, a 15-episode Canadian-made cop drama that is currently airing on The Movie Network, Movie Central and HBO Canada.

The Line is essentially a soap opera that focuses on two dysfunctional detectives, Max (Ron White) and Donny (Daniel Kash), and the people whose lives they touch. Both men have messed-up love lives and their complicated personal relationships interweave with other elements of The Line's plot to produce a tangled, ongoing story that is atypical of conventional police procedural shows.

A television format from Sony Pictures Television International that offers jobs as prizes to unemployed people has raised the ire of the AFL-CIO in Washington. SPTI announced Wednesday that it has secured the international format rights to a reality show from Argentina called Human Resources. Viewers watch "unemployed people compete for actual jobs as well as cash prizes and employee benefits," the announcement said. But the reaction from the AFL-CIO was less than enthusiastic. Chris Owens, public policy director for the body that represents more than 13 million workers in the United States, said, "We think the nation needs a real economic policy that gets people back to work as opposed to a game show that plays on tragedy for so many unemployed people."...
