DC's Titans Have Always Been An A-List Team, Now They Get To Prove It
Image
When it comes to DC Comics’ superhero teams, few groups are more widely recognized than the Titans, and now that they're stepping up into a more prominent role in the DC Universe, they should finally get the respect they deserve. The fan-favorite heroes have been around individually and as a unit for decades and have saved the entire DC Universe one multiple occasions, and many of the Titans are some of DC’s most widely known heroes, even outside of comic book fandom. But DC Comics seems to have forgotten that.

From Nightwing to Cyborg and even to the Flash, each Titan is an independent hero in their own right. However, for whatever reason DCComics has spent the last few decades acting as if these heroes still have anything left to prove both to themselves and to the Justice League. Now that the Justice League is taking a step back...

Why Nightwing Is The Next DC Superhero Who Deserves A Movie
Image
During my years working at the comic shop I endured quite a bit of good-natured teasing over my Nightwing crush. I've got a wall in my office completely devoted to sketches of the character. My former boss still pulls Nightwing comics for me and knows that if there's a sexy variant cover, I'm probably buying it. When Dick rescues a puppy in the current "Nightwing" run from Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo I felt like I was reading erotica created just for me -- if you've not read it, do so immediately! I know I'm not alone. Nightwing fans are legion.

One of the most interesting revelations from James Gunn and Peter Safran's reveal of their slate for DC Studios is the way they are approaching the Dark Knight. We already knew Matt Reeves was getting a sequel to "The Batman," but there's another project in the works that...

Titans, Green Lantern, And Cyborg Get Big Revamps As Part Of Dawn Of DC

Nightwing & the Titans Have Never Looked Better in Gala-Inspired Cover Art
Image
Warning: Potential Spoilers for Nightwing #103Dc's most stylish team, the Titans, have united for a gala-inspired portrait in a new Nightwing cover. The latest in a series of Nightwing and Titans covers by artist Travis Moore, this art will have fans convinced this superhero team is red carpet ready.

Travis Moore's new Nightwing variant cover art was released with DC's April solicitations, which featured information for Nightwing #103. The cover—the latest in Moore's series of team-bonding covers for the critically-acclaimed series—sees Nightwing and the Titans dressed to the nines, ready more for the Met Gala than a battle with Deathstroke.

The cover features Dick Grayson, of course, in the center, sitting on a couch with Starfire. They're surrounded by their other teammates, all dressed in formal wear: Donna Troy, Raven, Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Wally West. The women in particular are dressed in floor-length gowns, adorned in sparkles and feathers and more.

John Boyega Soars As Val Zod In Dcu Superman Fan Art
Image
A new piece of Superman fan art imagines John Boyega as the DC Universe’s version of Val Zod. Created by Tom Taylor, Nicola Scott and Robson Rocha, Val Zod first made his comic book debut in the New 52’s Earth 2 comic series in 2014. One of the last Kryptonians of his universe, Val Zod was the second person to assume the mantle of Superman after Earth 2’s version of Kal-El died attempting to prevent an invasion from Apokolips. In July last year, news broke that Creed’s Michael B. Jordan was developing his own Val Zod limited series for HBO Max, prior to James Gunn and Peter Safran assuming the reins of the freshly reminted DC Studios.

Now a new piece of fan art from digital artist Subi Özil has put forward another contender to assume the role as the Dcu’s version Val Zod, namely Star Wars star John Boyega.

DC Reveals Why Green Arrow Retired His Boxing Glove Arrow
Image
While Green Arrow's trick arrows may be fun, DC Comics has revealed that the boxing glove arrow has a few setbacks. The preview for Stargirl: The Lost Children #2 features Emiko Queen and the titular heroine as they descend into Oliver Queen's lair. It has a few items of note in it, one of which is the silly - yet legendary - trick arrow.

Green Arrow debuted in 1941 within the pages of More Fun Comics #73. Since then, the Emerald Archer has produced a slew of trick arrows and beat up numerous foes in his rogue gallery using them. Last year, Green Arrow celebrated his 80th anniversary. Oliver Queen has showcased his arsenal in numerous comics, animated series, and the CW show, Arrow. Despite how amazing his arsenal is, his most iconic arrow isn't used often - for a very good reason.

Bane Is Jealous of Batman for a Reason He'll Never, Ever Admit
Image
While Batman has one of the largest families in the DC universe, second only to the Flash Family, one of Batman's villains seems to have just as strong of an interest in finding a family as Bruce does. Bane seems to long for a family and past comics prove it.

Bane is a character who was literally born without a family, growing up in the prison of Pena Duro to serve the sentence of a father Bane never knew. Bane learned everything he knew about life through prison, he worked out in the gymnasium, read every single book he could get his hands on and murdered his first man at eight-years-old, using a knife hidden in his toy bear. Bane's life was incredibly difficult, and he spent the vast majority of his early life entirely alone, he was even haunted by nightmares of a giant bat, which was what eventually...

Val-Zod Superman Cosplay Is So Epic, Even His Creator Is Impressed
Image
DC Comics' Earth-2 reality puts a different spin on its iconic heroes, introducing new takes on familiar mantles, such as Val-Zod's Superman. Now, an awesome cosplay of the hero is being celebrated by his creator.

Val-Zod was created by Tom Taylor, Nicola Scott, and Robin Rocha in Earth-2 #19. An orphan from the planet Krypton, his parents were executed by the Kryptonian Court. However, he was saved from the planet's destruction by Jor-El and Lara. Sent to Earth with Kara Zor-El, Kal-El, and another child, Val was educated by the recorded knowledge of his parents, who taught him to be a pacifist. Upon arriving, he was kept as a recluse until he was discovered by the Wonders of the World, Earth-2's version of the Justice League. Despite a shaky beginning, Val rose to the occasion under the tutelage of the Wonders to defeat a cloned version of Kal-El, who had previously died.

DC's Darkest Robin Shows How Gotham's Villains See the Boy Wonder
Image
While Robin is most famous as Batman's sidekick, the various bearers of this mantle have been heroes in their own right. Tenacious detectives, skilled acrobats, and unyielding fighters, the Robins are some of the most capable individuals ever to wear a mask. And yet, despite their competence, it seems DC's villains still see them as a joke.

Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne have built the Robin legacy in DC's mainstream reality, and they did it with blood and sweat. Some died in the role, others killed in it, and each has served to save Batman from the internal darkness that simultaneously drives and threatens to consume him. However, those outside the Bat-Family have only partial understanding of what it means to be Robin, with some guessing that Batman has an assembly line of dedicated young followers, and others that Robin is some eternal teen...

Wonder Woman Annual #1 Review
This week is one monumental week for Wonder Woman. After 75 years, the Amazonian princess is finally about to star in her own movie – which it turns out is critically acclaimed. To mark the occasion, DC has given us Wonder Woman Annual #1, the first annual to star the character in the Rebirth era. It’s an anthology collection containing several short stories which each demonstrate just how amazing Diana is.

The highlight for many fans will be the annual’s opening tale, ‘And Then There Were Three,’ courtesy of current Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka. It’s a retelling of the first meeting between the Trinity – Superman, Batman and Diana. It’s a great little piece, with Rucka nailing in broad strokes the differences between these three heroes. Superman is sunny and hopeful, Batman is reticent and slow to trust while Diana is noble and pure of spirit. Rucka’s work...

Greg Rucka Discusses Wonder Woman Annual #1 In New Video
Saying that this is a big week for Wonder Woman is certainly an understatement. Not only is there much buzz surrounding her first solo outing on the silver screen (you can read our review here), but her first annual yielded by the Rebirth era is also set to hit shelves.

Although said annual is slated to be an anthology of sorts, many readers are likely looking forward to the contribution made by Greg Rucka, who has served as writer on the flagship title for the past year, and artist Nicola Scott, who was paired with him for the Wonder Woman: Year One story arc.

In the latest episode of DC All Access, co-host Whitney Moore chats with Rucka about his 10-page tale that actually takes place within the same time frame as Year One, effectively showing how Diana first met Batman and Superman in current continuity. Sure, we’ve all...

Wonder Woman Gets Awesome Chinese Tie-In Poster
With just over two weeks left until fans get the first live-action, big screen adaptation of Wonder Woman, a new, and very unusual poster has surfaced from the Chinese market.

The poster, which was shared by DC Comics artist, Nicola Scott, who has been drawing Wonder Woman for DC since 2016, is very much in the style of anime, and displays Diana Prince with her famous sword and shield, along with Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman’s mother, Hippolyta.

Wonder Woman is the first big hitter of the year for DC, and after the middle of the road reactions to last year’s Batman v Superman, they are in desperate need of a critically acclaimed hit.

Wonder Woman Vol. 1: The Lies Review
This review is based off a volume that collects Wonder Woman: Rebirth #1 and Wonder Woman #1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11.

Call me crazy, but no in continuity Wonder Woman story has really resonated with me since Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang concluded what I would call a definitive run. Believe it or not, I did think Meredith and David Finch’s material had some bright spots and, when it comes to Greg Rucka’s current take, I think it’s good but it doesn’t “wow” me.

Maybe that had to do in part with how this title was structured when it came to publishing. You see, all odd numbered issues – in this case, the ones that comprised The Lies – take place in the present, whereas even numbered ones are set in the past and make up the Year One arc. It was a clever way of balancing the respective workloads of artists Liam Sharp and Nicola Scott,...

It’s getting to be about that time of the month when publishers start rolling out solicits for books they’ll be shipping three months from now. As such, DC has given us all some juicy hints pertaining to what the future has in store for the likes of The Flash, Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman.

First, let’s talk about the Scarlet Speedster, who will be fresh off what’s sure to be a game changing crossover with Batman once issue #23 arrives in comic shops. And from what we can tell, he won’t be done with team-ups anytime soon because Green Lantern Hal Jordan is set to drop by for a little Brave and the Bold style action. Not only that, but Eobard Thawne threatens to cause more trouble as well.

DC Announces Free Comic Book Day 2017 Titles With Key Focus On Wonder Woman
Each year, comic book retailers celebrate their equivalent of Black Friday on the first Saturday in May. Dubbed “Free Comic Book Day,” it delivers on its namesake as every top publisher puts out a free floppyback or two with the intention of hooking new readers. Plus, the stores themselves often have some wicked deals for those who stick around to actually purchase something.

As it turns out, DC will shine the spotlight on some of its most prominent female superheroes this spring when two titles featuring the iconic Wonder Woman arrive just in time for her silver screen outing.

First, let’s talk about Wonder Woman Fcbd 2017 Special Edition, which will serve as somewhat of a sampler for Wonder Woman Vol. 2: Year One, a collected edition that will see release on May 3. Wonder Woman #14 Review
Wonder Woman #14 drops us right into the action. Diana’s in the middle of a battle with Ares, who’s interrogating her to try and discover the location of Themyscira. The storytelling is big, grandiose and fast-paced, but it doesn’t sacrifice the much needed character interactions between Diana, Steve and Dr. Minerva. There’s an appreciated sense of, well, wonder to everything going on in this issue. Unlike most versions of the character’s early days that we’ve seen, these people really take the time to deal with the fact that they’re seeing actual mythological gods for the first time.

Diana’s revelation that she no longer knows the location of Themyscira is an interesting one. She didn’t understand the importance of this and didn’t really care about it before. While leaving the island with Steve, going into the outside world and revealing herself, she...

LRMOnline Comic Book Contributor's Best Of 2016 (Part 1 of 4) DC & Marvel
Now that Christmas is done and gone, and no doubt our debt and weight gone up we begin to look toward the New Year. 2016 was a great year for comic books in general, with the rise of a lot of great independent books from publishers like Image and Aftershock. DC Comics in a sense apologized for the New 52 and DC You with their sensational “Rebirth” line that was launched by Geoff Johns. Marvel continued to do what they do best, put out number ones. With titles like “Champions”, “Death of X”, “Civil War II” and their recent event “Ivx” putting the X-Men vs. the Inhumans.

No doubt that the comic book team here at LRMOnline.com has been kept very busy all year picking up a ridiculous number of books week to week. Our passion for the comic book industry is undeniable as we all go above and beyond to...

Mindy Newell: Daughters of Hippolyta
On Friday, October 21, 2016, something remarkable happened.

Princess Diana of Themiscrya was appointed an Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls everywhere around the globe by the United Nations in a ceremony led by Under-Secretary General for Communications and Public Information Christina Gallach. It was attended by the actors Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot. Remarkably, the Princess herself did not appear.

Why is this remarkable?

Princess Diana of Themiscrya is a fictional comic book character co-created 75 years ago by writers William Moulton Marston, his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston, and artist H.G. Peter. She first appeared to the public in All Star Comics #8 (December 1941) and then was given the cover to Sensation Comics #1 (January, 1942). The very first issue of her eponymous book showed up on the newsstands in the summer of that same year.

Don’t recognize the name? Then how about this one…

Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman Is Queer Confirms DC Comics
David Thewlis, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman (2017)
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the iconic DC Comics character Wonder Woman, with Diana Prince finally making her way to the big screen this past spring in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as portrayed by Gal Gadot. While Diana of Themyscira will return next year in her own standalone Wonder Woman movie, the character has been rebooted for the comics with a new DC Universe Rebirth series that debuted last month. Greg Rucka, the writer for that series, confirms what many fans had suspected, that this Wonder Woman is in fact queer.

Greg Rucka and artists Nicola Scott and Liam Sharp introduced this new version of Wonder Woman in the graphic novel Wonder Woman: Year One, followed by the weekly DC Comics Bombshells digital-first series and the twice-monthly DC Universe Rebirth Wonder Woman series. Comicosity asked Greg Rucka straight up if the Wonder Woman he has crafted is queer,...

Comic Book Review: Wonder Woman #2
Nicola Scott & Romulo Fajardo Jr. (DC Comics)

Greg Rucka and the Wonder Woman creative team are taking an interesting approach to her twice a month title. They will be telling two stories, the first called “The Lies”, which we were treated to two weeks ago featuring the artwork of Liam Sharp. The second is “Year One” featuring the artwork of Nicola Scott and that is the book we are going to cover here today.

The first issue of “Year One” is a true origin story for both Diana Prince and Steve Trevor. Throughout the book we are shown the point of view of both of them, Diana on the island of Themyscira and Steve serving in the army somewhere. As they go by living their lives day by day it’s very obvious that something is missing in each of them and they seem to struggle to figure out how to fill the void.

Joe Corallo: Rebirth Revisited
DC’s Rebirth is now in full swing. Last week I wrote a response to one aspect of DC Rebirth #1. Later that week, I picked up Batman, Superman, and Green Arrow Rebirth (sorry Green Lanterns Rebirth). I read them. They ranged from awkward to interesting with Green Arrow, to me, being the most solid of those three. There was something not sitting right with me as I read these issues though, and it wasn’t in regards to the story or the art in the comics but in the credits and advertising.

Every one of those comics, including Green Lanterns Rebirth which I haven’t picked up yet, features exclusively male creators. Every. Single. One. In the middle of the books themselves they all advertise four more upcoming comics for Rebirth: Action Comics, New Super-Man, Superwoman, and Supergirl. All of which are exclusively male creator teams. Finally, in the back...

Wonder Woman gets a 12A certificate from the BBFC
Simon Brew Rob Leane Kirsten Howard May 23, 2017

The Dceu's Wonder Woman has been passed uncut by the BBFC, and will be hitting cinemas next week...

Wonder Woman is the next big movie to land across the UK next week, and we hope it's as fun as early responses suggest. Patty Jenkins (Monster) has seemingly done good work on the film, at least as far as we can tell from its trailers; Gal Gadot is unstoppable, and is it really possible to hate anything Chris Pine is in? Jim Lee's design for the Batman of Earth 2 has been revealed. The character was first seen in the preview of a variant cover for James Robinson and Nicola Scott's forthcoming Earth 2 ongoing series. "Who will Batman kill to save his own daughter?" Earth 2 editor Pat McCallum said to The Source. "Right out of the gate that should tell you we're dealing with a different kind of Dark Knight here. More ruthless, dangerous... the costume is familiar and yeah, there is a Wayne under the (more)...

DC Comics Announces Cancellation of Six ‘New 52′ Titles
DC Comics has announced that they will be canceling six titles from the ‘New 52′ lineup but will be adding six additional titles to keep the magic 52 number alive. The six titles that have landed on the chopping block include Men of War, Mister Terrific, O.M.A.C., Hawk and Dove, Blackhawks, and Static Shock, all of which have struggled terms of sales and quality when compared to the other titles in DC’s ‘New 52′.

Each of these series will wrap up their runs with the release of issue #8 and will then make room for the following six new titles to take their place.

Batman Incorporated – Writer: Grant Morrison. Artist: Chris Burnham. The acclaimed ongoing writer of Action Comics, Grant Morrison, presents a fresh take on Batman Incorporated, in which the Batman brand is franchised globally in preparation for a major international threat. DC Comics March 2012 Solicitations
We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.

What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.

Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!

As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Justice League #7

Written by Geoff Johns

Art by Gene Ha and Gary Frank

Cover by Jim Lee and Scott Williams

Availabe in comic stores now!

If you read the previous two months of Superman then you’re already aware of what happens in this book. It’s a shame to see Clark Kent depicted so well over in Action Comics at the start of the month and then be given these formulaic stories at the end. Once again, Superman battles a foe linked with the classical elements (First issue: fire, second issue: air – an invisible monster.) who is dispatched without providing any real answers.

Many people think Superman is a boring character because he’s too powerful to ever face a considerable threat, but Superman was never about the power itself, but what he uses the power he has for. Most of his battles devolve into fist fights,...

It’s Women of Wonder Weekend!
In October 2006-2010, five annual Wonder Woman Day events raised over $110,000 for Domestic Violence programs in Portland, Oregon and Flemington, NJ. The five-year combination of auctions of over 1,100 original art pieces, plus collectibles, autograph signings, and photo opportunities garnered spectacular turnouts and four Portland Mayoral Proclamations.

This year, the event will take on a new name and an expanded mission! On October 30, 2011, the new Women of Wonder Day — again as a part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month — will take place, returning to Excalibur Books in Portland, Oregon, and Comic Fusion in Flemington, New Jersey, as well as at Heroes and Fantasies in San Antonio, Texas.

This year’s contributions for auction include not only artwork featuring heroines from the world of comics — Wonder Woman, She-Hulk, Storm, Michonne from The Walking Dead, Leetah from ElfQuest — but also from the world of media as well, including Lisbeth Salander, Buffy the Vampire Slayer,...

Fan Expo '11 Reveals New Information About the New DC Universe
Attending the panel were Dan Didio, Brian Azzarello, Tony Daniel, Jeff Lemire, Shane Davis, Francis Manapul, James Robinson, and Eddie Berganza. First the most notable information coming from the panel was the confirmation of the Justice Society of America in the new Dcu. This book will be written by James Robinson and drawn by artist Nicola Scott. Dan Didio had this to say about the characters... "We don't want them to just be cameos and then forgotten. We've waited on Jsa because we really wanted to get the details right. We were hammering out the characters as late as yesterday." Justice League which debuts this coming Tuesday at midnight (along with Flashpoint issue 5), will take place five years before most of the other new 52 titles. This one will cover the emergence of super-heroes to our world. We also learn that Cyborg will have a...

'Justice Society' new project confirmed by DC Comics
DC Comics co-publisher Dan Didio has teased the return of the Justice Society of America. The legacy series was notably absent from the solicitations for DC's company-wide relaunch next month, after the company claimed they were 'resting' the concept at present. However, during this weekend's Fan Expo Canada, Didio confirmed that a new Justice Society project is in the works. "Should we tease?" Didio asked during the 'New 52' panel, before confirming that former Justice League of America writer James Robinson and artist Nicola Scott are involved with the (more)...

Comics: The Jsa And Earth-2 Will Return In The Relaunched DC Universe!
Thanks to Newsarama, we have the following highlights from the DC Comics "New 52" panel at Fan Expo Canada. I've included a few of the most interesting points, but be sure to click on the link below to head on over to the site in order to read much, much more about the companies plans. While there's plenty of interesting tidbits here, the first paragraph should make fans of the Jsa very happy indeed... "Should we tease?" asked O.M.A.C. co-writer and DC co-publisher Didio. The rest agreed, and James Robinson confirmed that he is working on a new Justice Society project with artist Nicola Scott, and that the parallel world Earth-2 will make a return. The crowd erupted into thunderous applause. "We don't want them to just be cameos and then forgotten," Didio said. "We've waited on Jsa because we really wanted to get the details right. We...

Marc Alan Fishman: The Secret to Secret Six? A Tablespoon of Talent
Welcome back to ComicMix’s resident snark machine. So far, I’d taken a nice big steaming load all over Barry Allen, Hal Jordon, and the X-Men. Last week, for those counting, I shilled for my own book. Based on the lack of comments, I realized ya’ll don’t care bout that. I figured I needed your love back, so I should turn my attention back to being a mean so-and-so.

I wanted to folks, I really did. But wouldn’t you know it, I’m still all fuzzy inside from last week. Since it’s rare I’m not completely bitter about something, it’s high time I send up some praise for something I’m reading. Simply put, of all the books I’ve read in the past four to five years, none have been more consistently good as Secret Six. Now that’s it’s over,...

Comics: Jsa Part Of The New DCnU Afterall?
Per Bleeding Cool, the following rumor has surfaced about a mysterious DCnU title that Nicola Scott and James Robinson were working on: Dan Didio told retailers a month ago that Nicola Scott had an upcoming project at DC Comics. But word from late night San Diego bar gossip is that the project is with James Robinson (no longer writing the Hawkman relaunch) and it’s the much puzzled over Justice Society Of America. DC has made it clear that Superman and the Jla are the new Dcu’s first superheroes, leaving no room for a World War II team transposed to the present day. It appeared they had been written out of continuity. But there are plans, it seems, not to abandon it entirely. And they’re coming back. I don’t know how, I don’t know who, I don’t know when. All I’ve been told is Scott and Robinson on Jsa…...

DC Comics: 'We need more women writers and characters'
DC Comics co-publishers Dan Didio and Jim Lee have responded to fan criticism about the company's lack of female comic creators. Didio and Lee posted a joint statement on DC's The Source this weekend, recognising that the company needs to expand its pool of female writers, artists and characters. "Over the past week we've heard from fans about a need for more women writers, artists and characters," the post reads. "We want you to know, first and foremost, that we hear you and take your concerns very seriously." The DC Comics executives cited the likes of Gail Simone, Fiona Staples, Nicola Scott, Amanda Connor, G. WIllow Wilson and Felicia Henderson as female comic book creators they have worked (more)...

Comics: Jim Lee And Dan Didio Pledge Commitment To The Women Creators And Characters Of DC
Jim Lee and Dan Didio wrote an open letter to fans on the Dcu Blog that touches on a recent concern from fans over a lack of female artist, writers, and characters in DC. In the letter Lee and Didio talk about taking fan concern seriously and that they have exciting projects involving women in the pipeline that will be announced closer to publication. From DC: Over the past week we’ve heard from fans about a need for more women writers, artists and characters. We want you to know, first and foremost, that we hear you and take your concerns very seriously. We’ve been very fortunate in recent years to have fan favorite creators like Gail Simone, Amy Reeder, Felicia Henderson, Fiona Staples, Amanda Connor, G. Willow Wilson and Nicola Scott write and draw the adventures of the World’s Greatest Super Heroes. DC Comics is the home of a pantheon of remarkable,...
