Usher paid tribute to the male role models in his life at the 2024 Black Music Action Coalition (Bmac) Gala, which took place Thursday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

“As a kid, I was given this very odd, awkward name — because I never met another Usher — so it was a bit complicated, but the most unfortunate reality is that I was gifted this name by a man who never showed up, who was never there to help me give meaning, give understanding, give some reference to what this name means, where it came from, and what it could potentially be,” said Usher who received the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award as he teased a few dance moves along to Bobby Brown’s “Don’t Be Cruel,” as it played in the background.

The 4th annual Black Music Action Coalition (Bmac) Gala was held September 19, 2024 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony hosted by Kenny Burns celebrated passionate artists, executives, and activists who are pivotal changemakers in championing racial equity and social justice within their community, and who are using their platforms and resources to make a positive impact on society.

Tribeca X 2024 Lineup Includes Jon Bon Jovi, ‘Rhony’ Star Jenna Lyons, and More

The Tribeca Festival, presented by Okx, announced its expanded Tribeca X programming lineup for the creative marketing and advertising community ahead of this year’s event.

The annual festival, which takes place from June 5 through 16, has hosted the Tribeca X program since 2016. This year marks the expansion of Tribeca X into a two-day program held at Convene One Liberty Plaza in Lower Manhattan.

Speakers include father-son duo Jon Bon Jovi and Jesse Bongiovi to discuss their Hampton Water wine brand and its charitable causes, “Real Housewives of New York City” alum and Executive Creative Director of FundamentalCo Jenna Lyons in conversation with founder Jonny Bauer, and supermodel Christy Turlington Burns on her non-profit Every Mother Counts.

‘Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl’ Special to Premiere on Disney+ in December (TV News Roundup)

Disney+ announced that new original special “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl,” with an introduction by Lin-Manuel Miranda, will launch Wednesday, Dec. 28, on the streamer. The two-night concert event will take place at the Hollywood Bowl on November 11 and 12. The special comes from Disney Branded Television and will be produced by Fulwell 73 Productions.

The original voice cast of “Encanto” will reunite at the Bowl, including Stephanie Beatriz (as Mirabel), Adassa (as Dolores), Carolina Gaitán (as Pepa), Jessica Darrow (as Luisa), Diane Guerrero (as Isabela), Mauro Castillo (as Félix), Angie Cepeda (as Julieta) and Olga Merediz (as Abuela Alma). The event will also feature special guests, including Colombian stars Carlos Vives and Andrés Cepeda. The live-to-film concert experience, including an 80-person orchestra, 50 dancers and special effects, will center on the characters and songs of Disney Animation’s “Encanto.”
