The Gilded Age just keeps reaching new heights as it heads toward its Season 3 finale.
The penultimate episode drew 4.6M viewers in the three days since it debuted on HBO on Sunday, setting another series record, per Warner Bros. Discovery. This is now the fourth consecutive week that the third season has managed a new series high audience.
Ahead of Sunday’s finale, the show is apparently drawing in new viewers at a record pace. The company says that The Gilded Age is currently adding viewers at a rate nearly 50% higher than in previous seasons.
Of course, newcomers are playing catch up, so much of this viewership is actually boosting the previous seasons, too. Wbd says that Season 1 viewership was up approximately 30% last week compared to the same week leading into last season’s Episode 7.
This bodes incredibly well for the show’s fourth season, as it has already received a renewal from HBO.

As someone who grew up, thanks to my mum’s love of the films, on Disney’s legacy of animated classics, I went into the 2025 live-action Snow White hoping for something that would both honour the past and confidently step into the present. What I got was a film that is caught in an awkward tug-of-war between honouring its classic roots and reshaping itself for contemporary sensibilities.
Directed by Marc Webb and starring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, this adaptation is undeniably ambitious. From the outset, it’s clear that this isn’t exactly the same story told in 1937 (something other Disney live-action remakes fail to do sometimes). Here,...

On a recent edition of CBS Sunday Morning, the show devoted a segment to the most famous playwright of all time: William Shakespeare. In the segment, correspondent Mo Rocca explored why his four-hundred-year-old plays continue to remain so popular, interviewing several experts, including Broadway performer Patrick Page, who tours his one-man Shakespeare show All the Devils Are Here. Rocca also visited the newly-renovated Folger Shakespeare Library, in Washington, D.C., home to the world's largest collection of Shakespeare's published First Folios, and spoke to New York Times columnist and Shakespeare aficionado Maureen Dowd about the playwright's enduring appeal. This season, two Shakespeare classics were seen on Broadway: Romeo + Juliet and Othello. Starring Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor, the limited run of Romeo +...

“The Gilded Age” is ushering in a new era. The third season of the beloved HBO series marks the start of Bertha’s (Carrie Coon) reign. She already has secured her status as the patron saint of the Metropolitan Opera: Can she now have the approval of the old money elites?
The Season 3 logline reads: “Following the Opera War, the old guard is weakened and the Russells stand poised to take their place at the head of society. Bertha sets her sights on a prize that would elevate the family to unimaginable heights while George risks everything on a gambit that could revolutionize the railroad industry — if it doesn’t ruin him first. Across the street, the Brook household is thrown into chaos as Agnes refuses to accept Ada’s new position as lady of the house. Peggy meets a handsome doctor from Newport whose family is less than enthusiastic about her career.

Efforts by Republicans at all levels of government to make the populace more ignorant are, unfortunately, going great. As of 2023, 28 percent of American adults ranked at the lowest levels of literacy. Compared to the last decade, American students’ math scores have dropped steeply in an international test. And as if chipping away at the teaching of basic skills wasn’t enough, officials in Republican-led states have been on the march against sex education for years. Soon, you might not even be able to do your own independent study on the subject: the latest page from the Project 2025 playbook is a Republican bill to ban all pornography in the U.S. In our current era of prudishness, Netflix’s Big Mouth feels like a precious resource we should protect at all costs.

After an 18-month break, get ready to give a warm welcome back to Bertha, Marian, Agnes, Ada, and the rest of The Gilded Age gang. Season 3 will premiere the first of eight episodes in June, HBO announced today, six months after Season 2 wrapped on Dec. 17, 2023. Although a specific launch day wasn't announced, a June premiere date for the new season means it won't be eligible for the current 2025 Emmys cycle, whose cutoff is May 31. Instead, Gilded Age Season 3 will compete at the 2026 Emmy Awards.

The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic and social change, when empires were built, but no victory came without sacrifice. Following the Opera War, the old guard is weakened, and the Russells stand poised to take their place at the head of society.
In the third season, Bertha sets her sights on a prize that would elevate the family to unimaginable heights while George risks everything on a gambit that could revolutionize the railroad industry — if it doesn’t ruin him first. Disney’s “Snow White” has been banned from playing in movie theaters in Lebanon as star Gal Gadot is on the country’s boycott list, according to local media reports.
Local newspaper An-Nahar reported that the ban was ordered by Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar, who made the decision amid Israel’s ongoing attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, which have killed civilians.
Gadot, who portrays The Evil Queen in the live-action remake, was born in Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces. She has been an outspoken advocate for the country since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks.
“Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews,” Gadot said in a March 4 speech at the Anti-Defamation League’s annual summit in New York City.

Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot’s magnum opus, Snow White, is turning out to be a major dud at ticket windows. Directed by Marc Webb, the live-action reimagining of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was theatrically released last Friday. Before making a domestic debut, the film opened in selected markets like France and Italy. Domestically, it opened on March 21. Disney’s live-action “Snow White” is here, taking the 1937 animated film into the real world, dwarves and all.
Although technically, in this version, they aren’t dwarves. As explained in the movie, they’re magical creatures that have lived in the woods for hundreds of years. That said, they still take on the names of the original seven dwarves.
And of course, there are some recognizable humans on screen as well as lending their voices to the merry bunch.
So, here are all the faces — and voices — you’ll need to know.

Chicago – The latest Disney Studio live action reboot of an animated classic is the worst thing to happen to “Snow White” since the poisoned apple. This woebegone misfire in re-imagining the 1937 film hit a new low with this incompetent, incoherent, and incomprehensible miscalculation of epic proportions.
Rachel Zegler is Snow White, a princess daughter of a benevolent king and queen … but her mother the queen later dies. Enter the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot), who disappears the king and makes Snow White a scullery maid. When the mirror routine happens … who’s the fairest of them all? … and determines Snow White instead of the Evil One, the Queen banishes her to the forest. There she meets seven dwarves and a Robin Hood type named Jonathan (Andrew Burnap) – essentially the prince in this story – who leads a gang who are loyal to Snow’s father. Snow’s new team then sets out to get the kingdom back.

The debut score has been revealed for the new Snow White remake. Even ahead of its release, the film was rather polarizing, and that trend will continue with the divisive Rotten Tomatoes score.
Heading into its opening weekend, Snow White has garnered a debut score on Rotten Tomatoes of 48%. Initially, the early reactions from critics on social media were very promising, though with many other critics having more harsh opinions, the Rotten Tomatoes score is almost firmly right in the middle of the road. The number may continue to fluctuate as added reviews come in, but this is a clear indicator that the critics can't agree on how they feel about Snow White.
"Snow White offers a fresh spin on the classic tale that is elevated to the realm of a new original musical thanks to tracks by Pasek and Paul," reads one glowing review by Kristen Maldonado of Pop Culture Planet.

Disney's live-action adaption of Snow White arrives on the silver screen after years of production controversies and significant blowback to star Rachel Zegler's political rhetoric. Snow White stays mostly true to the classic cartoon's beloved narrative with enchanting performances, fantastic musical numbers, and just enough darkness to soften the sweet sentiments. Hearts will swell as a magnificent fable champions the virtues of kindness and community over greed and villainy. Snow White is far from the "woke" disaster certain audiences have predicted, and perhaps hoped for, since the trailer's release.

It was going to come to this eventually. Beginning in 2010 with the release of Tim Burton's not-at-all-good "Alice in Wonderland," the Disney Entertainment Complex discovered they could make billions merely remaking their most popular animated films using live-action actors and modern-day CGI. In the last 15 years, the company has gleefully cannibalized its own catalogue, siphoning nostalgia from the brains of millennials like so much cerebrospinal fluid. This was a curious practice, as the bulk of the films they were remaking were already based on folk tales, ancient stories, or children's literature that is adapted frequently by filmmakers the world over.
The raison d'être of these remakes (apart from the nostalgia money) was seemingly to allow Disney to keep their flag of ownership deeply planted in tales like "Cinderella," "Aladdin," and "The Little Mermaid," assuring audiences that, yes, their version was the "official" version. Hans Christian Andersen is just some old hack,...

If you’re looking for a laundry list of the controversies that have beset Disney’s latest live-action remake, the Marc Webb-directed “Snow White,” we’ll direct you to that subsection on the film’s Wikipedia page and then move swiftly onward because none of that really applies to the task at hand. Put more bluntly: as a remarkably sensible audience member said to me at the conclusion of our screening, “After all that?”
Yes, after all that, Webb’s Rachel Zegler-starring film is good. Not great, but certainly good, spirited and sweet and filled with wonderful songs and some canny updates to extremely dated material. And while that might not be good enough for some potential audience members, let’s be honest: There are just some people who were never going to loosen up to a “colorblind” fairy tale or one that dared ask, “Hey, what if a woman could like,...

Of all the Disney animated classics to have been given the live-action treatment, few are more beloved than 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a landmark feature that opened the door to a whole vault of canonical fairy tales ideally suited to the form. That, in turn, led to original stories, building the studio a vast, field-leading toon library and a legacy beloved the world over. If Snow White arrives accompanied by an echo chamber of overblown online controversies, that has zero bearing on the pleasures of this 21st century update. Even those with knives out for the movie might have to admit it’s no poisoned apple.

No one could ever say conjuring up modern-day Christmas movie magic is an easy feat; it's hard to create something that will become a classic addition to the holiday canon. Still, it thankfully doesn't stop people from trying. Apple TV+ made their attempt at a festive classic with the 2022 holiday musical, Spirited. With Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell leading the way, it's another take on the timeless, endlessly adapted Dickens' tale, A Christmas Carol.
Hopes were high, as high as the budget and a top-tier team assembled of comedy writer and director Sean Anders, songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and the chance for Reynolds to star alongside his comedy hero for the first time. But while Ferrell's Elf remains a favorite Christmas movie for many, only two years down the line, has Spirited already been forgotten?

Fans of Hazbin Hotel are likely watching Helluva Boss to pass the time during the hiatus, but a recently released episode makes things confusing regarding who has dominion of VivziePop's vision of Hell. Hazbin Hotel dropped on Prime Video in early 2024, an adult animated musical series about Lucifer's daughter attempting to rehabilitate sinners so they can go to Heaven. It is loosely connected to creator Vivienne Medrano's other animated series taking place in Hell, entitled Helluva Boss, and available on the VivziePop YouTube channel. Helluva Boss follows a company of assassins carrying out hits in the living world.
Both series boast vibrant animation, hilarious casts of unfiltered characters, striking musical numbers, and undercurrent storylines about acceptance and redemption. David Adjmi’s Stereophonic was named Best Play of the year by the New York Drama Critics’ Circle today, with the Best Musical Award going to the Off Broadway production of Dead Outlaw from the team behind The Band’s Visit.
Stereophonic, currently on Broadway, has received 13 Tony Award nominations, and includes songs written by Will Butler from the indie rock band Arcade Fire. The play tells the story of a fractious 1970s Fleetwood Mac-like rock band recording what will be a massive Rumours-like hit record.
Dead Outlaw, with music and lyrics by David Yazbek and Erik Della Penna and a book by Itamar Moses, is inspired by the life of Elmer McCurdy. The musical, which premiered this year at the Minetta Lane Theatre, was originally conceived by Yazbek and tells the story of an outlaw from the early 20th Century whose corpse became a traveling sideshow exhibit for decades.
