HBO Max‘s film library is filled with worthwhile, great psychological thrillers. From well-known, iconic classics to underseen, forgotten films, the streamer has movies you either may not have ever heard of before or ones you have been meaning to check out for years. Case in point: Its psychological thriller collection includes the most underrated film that “Andor” creator Tony Gilroy has ever made, as well as one of the most beloved and oft-quoted movies of the 1990s.
Here are the best psychological thrillers you can stream on HBO Max in July.
“Duplicity” (Universal Pictures) “Duplicity” (2009)
“Duplicity,” writer-director Tony Gilroy‘s underrated follow-up to his acclaimed “Michael Clayton,” is an unlikely blend of paranoid corporate politics and romance. It follows two paid corporate spies (Julia Roberts and Clive Owen) whose attraction to each other complicates their respective assignments and compels them to concoct a daring scheme designed to trick their bosses.

The gang on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" love riffing on popular culture, both onscreen as their characters and in the episodes themselves. From the bonkers Bruce Willis-inspired antics of the season 3 episode "The Gang Gets Held Hostage" to a way less classy take on the classic noir "The Postman Always Rings Twice" that involves a whole lot of diarrhea poisoning, elements of pop culture have been riffed on throughout the long-running series. There's one episode, however, that almost feels like a pop culture Easter egg hunt, and that's the glorious "The Gang Goes to a Water Park" from season 12.
"The Gang Goes to a Water Park" has it all — a great nod to Steven Spielberg's seminal feature film "Jaws," references to one of the most infamous horror novels of the 21st century, an extended riff on an oft-forgotten Nicolas Cage movie, cameos from some very famous TV showrunners,...

Max subscribers are in for a treat this month: a new batch of films has arrived on the streaming service in June. These additions include a late ’90s classic, an underrated early 2000s comic book movie and a Martin Scorsese masterpiece that deserves even more respect than it typically gets. The streamer has also added one of the greatest parody films of all time to its platform, as well as the best “Hunger Games” adaptation that Hollywood has produced to date.
Here are the seven best movies that are now streaming on Max in June.
“Casino” (Universal Pictures) “Casino” (1995)
“Casino” has had a difficult time escaping the shadow of “Goodfellas.” Its narrative, cast and stylistic similarities to that film have invited comparisons between the two titles ever since “Casino” hit theaters in 1995. Brad Pitt’s new F1 movie will race into theaters in just a few weeks, but one of the most iconic films of his career has become a global streaming hit more than 25 years after it was released. Pitt stars alongside Edward Norton in Fight Club, the 1999 psychological thriller following an office worker and a soap maker who team up to form an underground fight club that evolves into something much more. Fight Club debuted on Max at the start of the month, and the film has surged into the streamer’s top 10, sitting at #7 at the time of writing. Pitt famously turned to his co-star Edward Norton at the 1999 Venice Film Festival — as Fight Club was being rigorously booed — and said, “This is the best movie I’m ever going to be in.”

Talk about a dead reckoning. For 25 years now, the Final Destination franchise has been dealing out elaborate demises with maximum splatter – depicting some of the greatest disaster sequences in cinema history, before teeing up playful Rube Goldberg-style kills for the seemingly lucky survivors. And capital-‘d’ Death isn’t done yet – the series has returned with Final Destination Bloodlines, dishing up a fresh batch of murderous mayhem. So what better time to look over the gore-strewn entrails of one of the most entertaining horror series around, and see which comes in at the top of the pile-up?
6) The Final Destination (2009)
As its definite-article title suggests, this fourth entry was intended as a grand finale – except, it’s the only real dud in the series, fumbling the bag to the extent that a fifth instalment was confirmed soon after. There are many reasons why it doesn’t hit – for one,...

The Fight Club Ending – China Twist ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
Very few filmmakers can stir up intense debate the way David Fincher does. His films provoke thoughts, then punch you in the gut and leave you squirming. Fincher, through the twisted minds behind serial murders in Se7en, to the unsettling real-life ambiguity of Zodiac, and the sharp dissection of online identity in The Social Network, has thrived in discomfort. His work is riddled with grim observations on modern life, always willing to get dirty in the name of narrative. Yet, nothing he’s done has lit fires quite like Fight Club.
Fight Club’s Brutal Tale Of Rebellion
Fight Club, released in 1999, not only attracted attention but also sparked ongoing arguments about violence and rebellion wrapped in consumerism. Based on Chuck Palahniuk’s cult novel, the film centers on a deeply disillusioned man who forms an underground fight club that spirals into chaos.

Oftentimes, actors who appear in franchises like the MCU end up being known best for their respective roles, with the larger part of their career taking a backseat. This couldn’t be more true for Clark Gregg, who is known best for portraying Agent Phil Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, apart from his run in the MCU, Gregg is not only a talented actor but also a brilliant director and screenwriter, who has starred, directed, and written several acclaimed works over his career. One of his best works to date is the film Choke, which he directed, featuring one Iron Man 2 star as a s*x addict.

Neeraj Pandey’s fame perplexes me. After making A Wednesday, Special 26, and Baby, the man has repeatedly failed as a writer, director, and producer to deliver anything that’s barely watchable. Audiences took their merry time to realize that, but after the one-two punch of Auron Mein Dum Kahan Dum Tha and Sikandar Ka Muqaddar, they were compelled to collectively say that enough is enough. The same can’t be said about his stint on the small screen, where, with every new entry, his storytelling keeps getting more and more jingoistic and boring, and people seem to like it all the same. That’s fine; everyone’s sense of taste is different. However, he has made things personal by bringing his brand of bland to West Bengal. He had the audacity to adapt Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club in the form of The Royal Bengal Tiger. Then he produced Chengiz,...

Consider us to be Jack’s sense of glee because we’re happy to be the ones to tell you that Fight Club will be punching its way onto Hulu next month. Yes, the iconic David Fincher-helmed film that has become the battle cry for all the wrong reasons but is still a classic will arrive alongside a slew of other new movies in March. Beginning on the 14th, audiences can relive the cinematic adaptation of one of the most beloved titles from author Chuck Palahniuk, who would go on to pen other favorites like Invisible Monsters and Lullaby. Whether you love it because of the leading performances by Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter or because a bleach-blonde Jared Leto gets early payback for Morbius, the film is a classic for a reason and deserves a rewatch or a first run while on its new streaming home.

2023's The Killer is the latest ice-cold thriller by director David Fincher. Over his 30-year career, Fincher has made a name for himself as an obsessive and precise creator of thrilling genre pieces. His approach of doing dozens and dozens of takes to find exactly what he's looking for has led to some describing his style as cold and robotic.
While it is true that this approach leads to his films lacking emotional warmth, it also gives them a stone-cold edge that few can replicate. As Fincher has worked with many different writers throughout the years, many of his characters share a sharp and intelligent wit, and most of his films can be characterized by an unfeeling perpetual danger. The dialogue these characters deliver can be equally chilling, cutting deep and precise, staying with a viewer long after the credits have rolled.

Brad Pitt has worn the face of many over the years. Be it classic characters from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s works or Chuck Palahniuk’s works, he certainly knows how to capture the essence of the characters that he plays. Considering this, and the amount of success that he has gained over the years, one would assume that he would be anyone’s first pick for a documentary.

However, this wasn’t the case when it came to Jeff Buckley’s mother. After the Grammy winner’s untimely passing, his mother was trying to perfectly encapsulate his essence in a project that detailed his life.
While Pitt would have been the perfect pick to play the legendary singer, it would seem that things got too complicated between the actor and Buckley’s mother.

Fight Club had lackluster box office numbers and dismal reviews when it was released in 1999. Proving that critics and audiences don't always get it right, the movie has since been highly celebrated and is cemented as one of the best films of the 90s. For those who are unfamiliar, the film stars Brad Pitt and Edward Norton as a pair of nihilistic men who start an underground boxing ring, primarily made up of blue-collar, lower-class workers. Their underground fight clubs eventually escalate into a terrorist organization called Project Mayhem, which is made of men (also known as "Space Monkeys") from all over the country.
There are many memorable moments in Fight Club, but one of the most impactful was the surprising ending. Spoiler alert: the masculine and confident Tyler Durden and the awkward, bumbling narrator are actually the same person. Upon subsequent rewatches, it's easy to spot the clues that give away this big twist.

For years, David Fincher’s Fight Club has ignited storms of controversy for its unique theme, which tends to offer a visceral study of disaffected men and male rage. Starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, this 1999 film was no stranger to polarizing opinions, with its bold themes, gritty storytelling, and unapologetic critique of societal norms.

Even though today, it is considered a cultural touchstone in the history of cinema, critics have continued to dismiss it as an offensive and nihilistic film with nothing substantive to say about the real world we live in. However, Pitt and Norton have never been the ones to take such harsh criticism lying down and once blasted the critics with their unrelenting wit.

Chicago – The author of the seminal and cultural novel “Fight Club” is Chuck Palahniuk. That was his debut novel in 1996, and it was made into a memorable film by David Fincher in 1999. Since that publication, Palahniuk has published over 20 works of various fiction media including 14 novels, short stories collections and even coloring books. Palahniuk is out promoting his latest novel, “Shock Induction.” Photographer Joe Arce captured his image in Exclusive Portraits during the author’s appearance at Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, Illinois.

Transcending: The Wat Misaka Story (2010) Movie Review: Stories invite reflection, embedding moral lessons deep within the essence of our being. As Chuck Palahniuk observes in “Haunted,” readers consume lives much like theatres absorb audiences. Novels aim to provoke – whether through tears or nausea – drawing readers into the emotional world of the author. The climax resolves the excruciating narrative, leaving the audience to wrestle with the emotions it evokes.
Wataru Misaka stands as a wanderer, a refugee seeking to illuminate his path through the darkness, striving to restore faith in forgiveness. Born a Nisei – a term for second-generation Japanese immigrants – he was part of a community that left Japan in pursuit of the mythical “land of dreams and promises.” Yet, these refugees grew up as American citizens, belonging to a homeland that often treated them not with pride but as scapegoats.

Action films provide many of the best elements in cinema, from explosive sequences and edge-of-the-seat atmospheres to legendary leading characters and awe-inspiring climaxes, but none more powerful than an expertly delivered line of dialogue. These lines not only transcend the screen but transcend the film world into popular culture and beyond, creating characters and works that are etched into history. The combination of masterful words with impeccable delivery from some of the best actors of all time makes for a piece of movie magic that cannot be compared, even with the most high-octane and heart-stopping action scenes.
Some film quotes are instantly recognizable, such as Sean Connery's, “The Name is Bond, James Bond,” which highlights the man and the myth, effortlessly introducing him as a debonair agent. Ralph Fiennes reflects on the Seinfeld episode whose story revolves around Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) hating The English Patient. Based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Michael Ondaatje, The English Patient won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and received a great deal of acclaim, including for Fiennes' performance as László Almásy. In one of Seinfeld's best episodes, which is aptly titled "The English Patient," the story revolves around Elaine's contempt for the movie, which leads to several amusing scenarios that interfere with her personal relationships and her career.
While promoting his movie The Return on Jake's Takes, Fiennes shares that he was amused by Elaine's hatred of The English Patient. The final scene of Fight Club has sparked more discussion than perhaps any other modern movie, constituting one of the most iconic endings in cinema. Postmodern author Chuck Palahniuk wrote Fight Club and published it in 1996 as his first novel. Cinematic titan David Fincher then adapted it into the renowned 1999 classic, diverging slightly from the source material with his final scene. Why would the franchise want to go back to the post-Rise of Skywalker era, when all the interesting action in the Star Wars universe is occurring in the timeline of The Mandalorian?
When the Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk described modern consumer culture as “a copy of a copy of a copy”, he was probably thinking of Ikea churning out coffee tables with all the personality of an overcooked noodle, rather than the next episodes in a long-running space opera known for heroes who use quizzically reversed syntax. After its release in 1999, Fight Club has been hailed as a cult classic. Brad Pitt made a memorable performance as the charismatic Tyler Durden opposite Edward Norton's narrator. The movie also leaves a few questions for fans to ponder. Based on Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name, Fight Club follows the story of a man who struggles with insomnia and finds himself starting an underground fighting ring.
The movie made several notable alterations from the book that result in both clarity and confusion. Many fans argue that even though the movie's plot twist is jaw-dropping enough, it doesn't make sense that Tyler and the narrator are the same person during a rewatch. The book certainly clarifies the question with a simple answer, but the book has a much more complex narration that might not work in the film media.

David Fincher is like the wizard of modern cinema who has conjured films that dig deep into the human psyche. With his brilliant and meticulous filmmaking, he has created experiences that dive deep into the gritty corners of human nature and remain unforgettable. He didn’t start small; his first film Alien 3 marked the beginning of Fincher’s obsession with atmospheric tension. Although it wasn’t a smash hit, yet it created a world of his edgy approach.

The ending of Fight Club explained a wealth of thematic depth beyond the film's infamous mind-bending twist. Based on the 1996 novel by Chuck Palahniuk, David Fincher's Fight Club combines a complex story with social commentary and an exploration of the toxic nature of modern society, which has led to serious analysis. Told from the perspective of its unnamed narrator, it details his life spiraling into anarchy after founding the titular club which builds to the iconic Fight Club ending.
The Narrator (Edward Norton) begins Fight Club's story as a disillusioned man struggling with insomnia. He meets the charismatic Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) and begins to live a more fulfilling life. However, Durden's exploits escalate, leaving the Narrator to resolve the resulting chaos. In the twist, Fight Club reveals Tyler Durden is a manifestation of the Narrator's inner conflict. This re-frames Fight Club's entire narrative, but it also makes...

David Fincher's Fight Club has become a defining piece of '90s cinema and an all-time greatest hit. Yet, Chuck Palahniuk's original novel offers a distinctly different take on the narrator's story. While both versions masterfully explore themes of masculinity, consumerism, and identity, they diverge in several significant ways. From altered character dynamics to completely different endings.
The journey from page to screen resulted in numerous creative decisions that reshaped Palahniuk's work, with the Fight Club creator even revealing some problems he had with the iconic Brad Pitt movie. Some changes were necessary adaptations for the visual medium, despite initial box-office struggles, while others represented more deliberate choices in how to tell this complex story in ways only David Fincher can.

David Fincher's masterpiece of masculine identity is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a theatrical re-release, a new 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray, and a companion art book featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes content that will undoubtedly become a must-have for fans of the iconic 1999 neo-noir film.
After a suspenseful and vaguely ominous lead-up via the Instagram account @fightclubinsight, New Regency and 20th Century Studios have officially announced their plans for Fight Club's 25th anniversary, which occurred just over a week ago on October 15th. Fincher himself will be carefully supervising a remastered 4k Ultra HD edition of the beloved film, while a theatrical re-release has been planned with additional details forthcoming. However, the proverbial cherry on top will be the companion art book, which is described in the official release announcement as "a collector's piece.

Everyone knows the first (and second) rule of “Fight Club”: You do not talk about fight club. But do you remember the seventh rule? That is: “Fights will go on as long as they have to.” And for director David Fincher, that means continuing to tinker with the cult classic film at its 25th anniversary.
On Oct. 15, the date of the film’s initial release, the Instagram account @fightclubinsight teased an announcement about the neo-noir movie — starring Edward Norton as its nameless narrator, an insomniac office worker, and Brad Pitt as the enigmatic soap salesman Tyler Durden with whom he starts a male fight club.

David Fincher is breaking the first rule of “Fight Club” for its 25th anniversary: The auteur is revisiting the iconic 1999 thriller with a remastered re-release, accompanied by a tie-in book. New Regency and 20th Century Studios announced the remastered 4K Ultra HD, which was supervised by Fincher. Fight Club Review: David Fincher's Mind-Bending Psychological Drama Remains An All-Time Greatest Hit
The David Fincher masterpiece that is Fight Club continues to excite and delight today, with themes highlighted 25 years ago feeling even more prescient today. In 1999, Fincher was still transitioning from a career where he primarily directed music videos and TV adverts into one where he put his considerable talents towards thought-provoking and mind-bending movies. Fight Club was only Fincher's fourth foray into the world of cinema, with Se7en standing out as his most impressive project up until then.

Fight Club is a cult classic movie with an unforgettable cast. Its plot revolves around an unnamed narrator on the verge of a breakdown, suffering from insomnia, and going through a series of unfortunate events. After befriending a puzzling soap salesman, the two invest their time in a shocking new form of therapy between men, which quickly spirals out of control.
Directed by David Fincher, one of the most talented names in the thriller genre, the movie perfectly adapts the book of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk, although the two Fight Clubs have completely different endings. Much of its success is thanks to its star-studded cast portraying the many distinct characters in its story.

Chuck Palahniuk’s latest novel is an experimental and subversive coming of age satire that skewers an increasingly commodified society through hallucinogenic hubris.
“Clarity is paramount. Even when the goal is to create confusion.”
Chuck Palahniuk is one of this generation’s most explosive and subversive storytellers, but there have been increasingly diminishing returns for his more recent works, many of which have even felt like parodies of what’s expected from a Palahniuk novel. Palahniuk has released more than 20 novels, novellas, and short story collections in under three decades, which reflects a constant desire to speak to the world and eschew it. He’s not a writer who necessarily hoards ideas, which can sometimes lead to more hits than misses. That being said, when the hits hit, it’s really something special; and Shock Induction, Palahniuk’s latest novel, hits hard.

Fight Club, directed by David Fincher, was a film that initially left critics divided upon its release. Adapted from Chuck Palahniuks novel, the movies visceral themes of consumerism, toxic masculinity, and societal disillusionment sparked fierce debate among audiences. Some critics found its violent and anarchic themes disturbing and dangerous, while others praised its bold satire and exciting imagery helmed by the brilliant creative minds of David Fincher, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter. Over time, however, Fight Club has solidified its position in media as a cult classic, with its social commentary becoming more relevant as the years pass.

You know how certain movies simply leave a lasting impression on you? You watch them at one point and they stick with you for many years later, as you go over the scenes, the dialogues, the acting, the technical aspects, the messages… everything, just thinking how brilliant these works are and how many times you can revisit them.
Some of these films might be subjectively important to you, but a lot of them will be true classics, from an objective and historical standpoint, that have impacted the history of cinema in a significant way. Controversial responses to movies that came out in the 1990s occasionally illustrated how audiences had missed the point of those movies. For instance, shocking horror movies that were banned for being too violent or horrific demonstrate an aversion to graphic elements that are meant to contribute to the story. What is important in this context is that the movie's most disturbing aspects are not gratuitous but all important to the core themes.
A lot of movies in the 1990s were controversial due to graphic violence or sexual elements; others attempted to handle heavy socio-political topics, which angered some people. However, movies become box office hits despite major controversies, and some of the selections from the 1990s are the same. The controversy surrounding a movie in this sense tends to be because a significant number of people didn't understand the movie's most intense scenes, demonstrated by the fact that many went...

Fight Club marked a turning point in the career of director David Fincher. Battered and bruised from the debacle of Alien 3, he had all but stepped away from Hollywood when he met with Fox executives Laura Ziskin and Bill Mechanic about the film. Chuck Palahniuk's novel was a reinvention of the serial killer subgenre, and the movie adaptation would revitalize Fincher's career. Fight Club would reveal David Fincher as a formidable filmmaker who had no intention of going quietly.
Equal parts gender identity debate and economic inequality fable, Fight Club attracted controversy. Edward Norton was fresh off American History X and Brad Pitt was forging his own path into Hollywood history when the two came together for the film. In the years since its lackluster cinema release in 1999, the movie has divided audiences and attained cult status through DVD and Blu-ray.

Almost 23 years ago, David Fincher released a film that even he was not confident would succeed. The movie included such violent, gory, and disturbing scenes that audiences would flee the hall in abhorrence. Ultimately, the movie tanked at the box office, but shockingly, the makers and actors were still satisfied.
Fight Club was released in 1999 and is now regarded as one of the must-watch movies. Using an unreliable narrator is an interesting storytelling technique. It invites viewers to question what's already registered as "the truth" and find out about what's really happening. Films with changeable realities are also very fun to watch. There are a few that completely fool the audience, planting hints until a big revelation at the end makes sense of everything.
Films with unreliable narrators are best for rewatching. Many of them have become cult classics for this very reason. From the famous Fight Club, where the protagonist and antagonist end up being someone familiar and unfamiliar, to Gone Girl, a film that evokes terror in daily life, unreliable narrators often weave horror and mental health into the plot.

The Narrator in Fight Club is intentionally nameless, with theories suggesting he goes by Jack or Sebastian. Even the comic sequel calls the Narrator "Sebastian," but his true name remains a mystery. Speculation revolves around whether the Narrator's real name is Tyler Durden, emphasizing the story's overarching themes.
While Fight Club is an incredibly prolific movie that continues to be hailed for its intricate storytelling, the movie leaves one mystery lingering with no clear answer; the lead character's name. Fight Club was originally released in 1999 and the film was the recipient of critical acclaim and rave reviews. However, there is one central mystery in the film that goes unexplained, despite several hints and clues that may suggest an answer exists.

With his huge plethora of movies and shows, Brad Pitt can easily be considered one of Hollywood’s finest actors. While initially struggling to establish himself as an actor, Pitt is currently among the highest-paid actors in the world of Tinsel Town.
However, with popularity comes several challenges and criticisms. For Pitt, it was the cult classic Fight Club, which garnered a lukewarm reception from the public when it was released in 1999.

Based on the outstanding literature of Chuck Palahniuk, the movie showcases the Bullet Train actor in a different light; however, even that was not enough to keep the spectators interested, and the movie gathered quite a lot of booing when it debuted at the Venice Film Festival in 1999, but Brad Pitt had a different reaction.

Love in the Blood: Beau Resurrects Russian Vampire Clan in Eccentric Genre Throwback
Chuck Palahniuk wrote it best, referencing an ‘old saying’ in his 1996 novel Fight Club regarding how ‘you always kill the one you love.’ It’s certainly the sentiment ensnaring a crumbling aristocratic family in Adrien Beau’s delightfully vintage debut The Vourdalak, based on an 1841 novella by Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy. These Tolstoyan vampires pre-figure Bram Stoker’s iconic Dracula, taken from a word first utilized by Pushkin of Balkan and Slavic origins with an etymology harnessing a mixture of vampire and lycan lore.…...

An undated love letter from Gabby Petito to her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, was among the evidence recently released by the FBI, showing Petito pleaded with Laundrie to “stop calling me names” and expressed how much she loved him before their ill-fated road trip in 2021.
“Brian, you know how much I love you, so (and I’m writing this with love), just please stop crying and stop calling me names because we are a team, and I’m here with you,” Petito wrote in the letter obtained by the FBI during its investigation.
The 22-year-old travel blogger apologized for getting upset over an unspecified argument, saying, “Yes, I can be a child sometimes, I know, but it’s cause you give me this energy, and I just love you too much, like so much it hurts.”

Its ungainly final twist and unreal violence sequences dim a film with a brilliant premise and rage that still stings
Twenty-five years ago, the ultimate bro film came out; it is now rereleased for the anniversary. David Fincher’s bone-splintering, soft-tissue-pulping Fight Club is the ultraviolent hipster-fantasy about a depressed white collar nerd befriended by a supercool alpha male and inducted into a secret bare-knuckle combat cult whose purpose is to restore real masculinity. It was adapted by screenwriter Jim Uhls from the uncompromisingly pessimistic novel by Chuck Palahniuk and, after a slow commercial start, became the movie that launched a million gags about all other clubs whose first rule was that you couldn’t talk about them. It is a comic meme which survived into Emma Seligman’s recent comedy Bottoms.
