Busy Philipps Says She’s ‘Psychic,’ Claims Ability to See ‘Things in the Future’
Image
Busy Philipps has good reason to believe in psychics.

“I’m psychic,” the “Freaks and Geeks” actor says during an appearance on the July 24 episode of the podcast “Ghosted! by Roz Hernandez.”

What?

“Well, I think I’m very intuitive,” Philipps explains. “But sometimes I just know things are going to happen. I sort of just see things in the future and then I have a lot of really psychic connections with people.”

If that’s not enough bizarreness, “Ghosted!” host Hernandez says she and her best friend, “A Million Things” star Sam Pancake, once came face-to-face with a murderer while housesitting for Philipps. “You and Sam thwarted the murderer from coming to my home,” Philipps said.

Hernandez recalled, “I’m wandering my eyes around and I see a man starting into the window at me! It’s the thing I’ll never forget. I was staring him in the eyes.

Jennifer Aniston & Danielle Macdonald in Trailer for Netflix's 'Dumplin'
"And that's when I decided - enough is enough." Netflix has unveiled the dazzling official trailer for an indie dramatic comedy titled Dumplin', the latest from filmmaker Anne Fletcher. The film is about a teen named Willowdean, the plus-size daughter of a former pageant queen who decides to enter the beauty contest herself in protest, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town. Jennifer Aniston stars with Danielle Macdonald (who also appeared in Patti Cake$) as Will. The cast includes Odeya Rush, Dove Cameron, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Luke Benward, Harold Perrineau, Joshua Eads-Brown, Sam Pancake, and Dan Finnerty. This looks like a joyously energetic and spirited film, better than I was expecting it to look. Might be worth a watch when it's released. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Anne Fletcher's Dumplin', direct from Netflix's YouTube: Dumplin' follows an outspoken plus-sized teenage girl named Willowdean (Danielle Macdonald), who’s...

New Official Trailer for Long Lost Cooking Mockumentary 'Cook Off!'
"Use more marshmallows!" Lionsgate has unveiled a new trailer for a mockumentary comedy titled Cook Off!, making fun of cooking competitions. This was actually filmed over a decade ago, and it first premiered at the Us Comedy Arts Festival Aspen back in 2007. Somehow it has been sitting on a shelf all these years, and yet is just now getting an official release thanks to Lionsgate. The huge ensemble cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Wendy McLendon-Covey, Ben Falcone, Niecy Nash, Jennifer Cox, Stephen Root, Diedrich Bader, Louie Anderson, Gary Anthony Williams, Jennifer Elise Cox, Cathryn Michon, Markie Post, and Sam Pancake. This definitely does have a Christopher Guest-esque vibe, with a cast of eccentric goofballs all makin' food under one roof. I'm just curious as to why it took so long to get a release. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Cathryn Michon & Guy Shalem's Cook Off!, direct from YouTube:...

Melissa McCarthy Stars In New Trailer For Cook Off!
Cathryn Michon, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Melissa McCarthy turn up the heat in the new trailer & poster from Lionsgate Premiere’s Cook Off!

Starring Michon and McLendon-Covey alongside Gary Anthony Williams, Niecy Nash, and Diedrich Bader, this deliciously sly comedy about contestants on the hunt for a one-million dollar cook-off prize hits theaters November 17th.

Reality-show shenanigans mix with the fiery-and-fierce world of competitive baking in the deliciously sly mockumentary Cook Off! As a buffet of quirky contestants prepare for the renowned Van Rookle Farms Cooking Contest, the heat is on to win a one million-dollar prize. The filmmakers follow them as the foodie media and celebrity judges descend on a hotel convention area to see which contestants rise, which ones fall, who will reveal their true nature, and who will find love with the contest’s costumed Muffin Man mascot.

Costarring a cast of improv geniuses including Cathryn Michon, Wendi McLendon-Covey,...

Melissa McCarthy's Cook Off! Trailer: We Dare You to Keep Watching
Cathryn Michon
Are you ready for a half-baked comedy with extra cheese? That's what they're selling in Lionsgate's new holiday offering Cook Off!. It appears to be a mockumentary sold in the comedic stylings of Christopher Guest. And while it's aping movies like Spinal Tap and Best in Show, it could be mistaken for the real thing.

Helping make this look like an authentic Christopher Guest movie is the fact that the trailer actually has some laughs in it. They're hard to find, but they're there. And Guest mainstay Wendi McLendon-Covey is on hand as well. We have the first trailer and the poster for this comedy, which seemingly came out of nowhere, and must have been made in-between takes on the Ghostbusters set. From the look of the footage, even though Melissa McCarthy is being touted as the star, we might be seeing all of her footage in this two minute spot.

SXSW 2014: ‘Space Station 76’ is a look at the future we used to know
Space Station 76

Directed by Jack Plotnick

Written by Jennifer Elise Cox, Sam Pancake, Jack Plotnick, Kali Rocha, and Michael Stoyanov

Space Station 76 begins with a narration musing on the impermanence and isolation of asteroidal paths. It’s the overarching metaphor in a film that is hilariously set in a nostalgic, 1970s version of the future and populated with hurt, dysfunctional, and yearning characters.

Glen (Patrick Wilson) is the alcoholic, abrasive, and suicidal captain of the Omega 76; Jessica (Liv Tyler) is new aboard and although much more competent than her counterparts, she is struggling with her own maternal inabilities; Ted (Matt Bomer) is an earnest but naive mechanic who lives with Misty (Marisa Coughlan), his philandering wife, and their lonely, precocious daughter Sunshine (Kylie Rogers). Together, this motley cast of characters explores what it means to live in a future built on expectations from the past. What happens when...

After announcing earlier this month that Jon Favreau’s Chef and the Veronica Mars movie will be making their world debuts at SXSW this year, the festival has revealed its full line-up, including further very promising world premieres, alongside appearances from some of the year’s most high-profile films.

Forget Sue Sylvester: Five True Jane Lynch Career Highlights
As you’ve probably heard by now, the fabulous Jane Lynch is on Broadway and drawing rave reviews as the villainous Miss Hannigan in the Annie revival now at The Palace Theater.

(Lynch is only performing through July 14th, so you only have a couple weeks to catch her! Tickets here.)

I thought this was a great time to look back at some Jane Lynch career highlights. And guess what? I’m leaving Sue Sylvester off this list. Great a creation as it is, I’m burned out on Sue Sylvester. You probably are too.

So rather than let Sue and her track suit define and delimit the amazing talents of Jane Lynch, let’s celebrate five other pop culture contributions from this amazing performer.

5. Christy Cummings, the lesbian dog handler from Best In Show (2000)

The first time I ever noticed Jane Lynch was in Christopher Guest‘s mockumentary about fanatical purebred dog owners.

Watch: 'Waffle Hut' Pilot is a Funny Food-Focused TV Show
The world may be getting introduced to a brand new sitcom with a focus on food. The Waffle Hut is a comedy surrounding the many characters that work and visit a small-town waffle house diner. The show stars an array of comedic talent, including Wendi McLendon-Covey, Colleen Camp, Melanie Hutsell, Beth Crosby, Jack Plotnick, Sam Pancake and Drew Droege.

The Waffle Hut pilot was written and directed by William Butler. It was shot last year but the trailer seems to have gained some popularity in the last few days. It doesn't look like Waffle Hut has been picked up by a network yet, but it seems like it is still being shopped around.

Exclusive: Director Jim Fall On His New Holiday Film And (Finally) The "Trick" Sequel
(l-r) Jeff Ward, director Jim Fall and Claire Coffee during production of Holly's Holiday

It’s December, so if it means anything it’s that there are a slew of holiday-themed movies on our TVs this time of year. One of them, Lifetime’s Holly’s Holiday, comes to us from out director Jim Fall, who has brought us such fabulous films as Trick and Wedding Wars as well as Tori Spelling’s So NoTORIous series.

AfterElton sat down with the director to talk about how you put the gay in a Lifetime movie, his thoughts on the state of gay films and (gasp!) he spilled the beans to us about picking up with Christian Campbell and Jp Pitoc in a sequel to Trick.

AfterElton: Holiday films are so specific in a lot of ways but as a director do you approach them differently than you would another project?...

Join us again today for a liveblog of Days of Our Lives.

Daniel Craig shares an erotically charged scene with Javier Bardem's villain in Skyfall, with Bardem stroking Bond's chest. Asked if he felt it had to do with the villain's sexuality, Craig said "What are you going to do? I don't see the world in sexual divisions. Someone suggested that Silva may be gay. And I'm like, I think he'll f**k anything."

Niche, Scripted Programming Faces Tough Road to TV
If you haven’t seen or heard of it, Half-Share, a show about six gay men vacationing on Fire Island, is hilarious. But as Edge Media editor Steve Weinstein noted, it may be “the funniest sitcom you’ll never see on TV.” Despite praise from audiences at festivals and screenings, Half-Share, like most pilots, remains unsold. At a panel Weinstein organized at New York's Lgbt Community Center, creator Sean Hanley, Here Media’s Josh Rosenzweig, Logo TV’s Christopher Willey and Us Weekly’s Bradley Jacobs, got together to discuss why gay cable networks in particular are having a difficult time with scripted content, despite seeming demand. "Don't you think a gay network needs a signature show?" asked Hanley, referring to the rise of nondescript reality television on cable. Hanley, a TV alum (The Nanny), produced the half-hour pilot independently to pitch to television networks. Having screened at the multiple festivals,...

Waiting, Wondering,Wrapping
Allison Strong, Union City, N.J."April showers bring May flowers." Imagine that phrase was a song that summed up the rainbow highs and lows of my past year. Press play. On April 30, 2009, I lost my grandmother—one of the biggest loves of my life and the Auntie Mame of my small family. Tell Dennis Everything... "Pretty" Premiere
If you can't turn away from Toddlers and Tiaras, then you'll love Pretty, a new web series from out writer/director Steve Silverman. The project is set in the sick, sparkly world of kiddie beauty pageants. Our own Dennis Hensley attended the show's L.A. premiere and learned that comedy may not be pretty, but Pretty sure is funny.

Dennis talks with Silverman and his cast, including actor Sam Pancake, who you might remember from the brilliant but all too brief Lifetime series Lovespring International.

Check it out after the break!

The hilarious first episode of Pretty is now up at PrettyTheSeries.com...
