She has acted in over 50 films with top heroes and banners and sang most of her own songs.

When her father left, she was thrust into the role of the breadwinner as an actress and playback singer, so she could take care of her mother and three brothers and three sisters.

Older sister of actress and playback singer Vijayata Pandit, and of the famous composing duo Jatin-Lalit (aka Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit).

Never married, she claims that the love of her life, actor Sanjeev Kumar, wouldn't marry her, because he never got over his heartbreak over actress Hema Malini.

Sulakshana couldn't find any work and struggled financially for several years. Her apartment, in need of serious repairs, couldn't find any buyers and she was forced to move in with her sister Vijayata. However, in 2005, her former leading man Jeetendra came to her rescue by convincing his brother-in-law to purchase her apartment, and she was able to use the proceeds from the sale to purchase 3 flats and pay her debts.

She comes from a family of musicians, as her uncle is Pandit Jasraj, a classical musician, who won the Padma Shree Award in India.

Her cousin is Durga Jasraj, who is an actress and a well-known television personality.

In the period 1975 to 1979 she was one of the most sought out after actress busy with maximum assignments on hand besides Hema Malini,Rekha,Neetu Singh & Reena Roy.

While recording songs for the film "Rahgir" Music Director Hemant Kumar suggested Sulakshana to take up acting as a simultaneous career alongside singing.

She currently lives with her sister Vijeyta and brother in law Musician Aadesh Srivastava at Mumbai. (October 2009)

Her sister Sandhya (Raashi) Pandit Singh acted in the film Door Ka Rahi. She passed away in 2013.

Aunt to actor Yash Pandit and his sisters singers Shraddha Pandit and Shweta Pandit. Their father Vishwaraj Pandit is Sulakshna's brother.

Cousin to actor Vinod Pandit. He was the son of her uncle Pandit Maniram.

A animated picture was used of Sulashana Pandit and Uttam Kumar for Haruomi Hosono International album "Cochin Moon". The album cover showed a fictional Bollywood movie.This was in 1978. The album had a unique version of the song "Hum Ghar Sajan " by Bhai Ranjit Singh Chandan .

In 1983, producer F.A. Nadiadwala signed Mandakini and Jatin Pandit (of Jatin -Lalit fame) for a film that was to be directed by David Dhawan. The co producers were Sulakshana Pandit,Farukh Chunawalla and the Pandit Brothers..
