- Her uncle, the actor Didier Pain, took her with him to his performances in front of the camera and on stage when she was six. She had her first successes as a singer as a school child. Her second professional single "Joe le Taxi" from 1986 became a number 1 hit and her breakthrough. Vanessa Paradis' first album "M & J", which she released in 1987 with the composer Franck Langolff and the lyricist Etienne Roda-Gil, is considered a masterpiece of French pop music. Vanessa Paradis stood in front of a film camera for the first time in 1989. In Jean-Claude Brisseau's "White Wedding" she played a student who turns her teacher's head. Paradis was awarded the "César" and the "Prix Romy Schneider" for her performance. She also starred in "Baby Blue" the same year. Her second album "Variations Sur Le Même T''Aime", for which Franck Langolff once again composed, was released in 1990. This time she was able to get Serge Gainsbourg to write the lyrics. In addition to her career as a singer and actress, in 1991 she signed an advertising contract with Coco Chanel for three million francs.
Meanwhile, she became the official face of Chanel's fragrance "Coco". In the advertising campaign, which was photographed by Jean-Paul Goude, she was seen wearing the plumage of an exotic bird. With her third album "Vanessa Paradis" she broke new ground in 1992. Her record company had insisted on English lyrics and hired Lenny Kravitz as the creative mind behind Vanessa's voice. The track "Be My Baby" became an international hit. The 20-year-old singer then impressed sold-out houses on her tour. Her album "Live" was released in 1993 as a compilation of the concerts. She made her third film "Elisa" in 1995 under the direction of Jean Becker. Alongside Gérard Depardieu, she played a young girl who leaves her superficial life in Paris to look for her father, whom she blames for her mother's death. This was followed by Vanessa Paradis' 1997 comedy "The Witches' Club of Bayonne" with Jeanne Moreau and Jean Reno, the 1998 road movie "Une Chance Sur Deux" with Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon and the 1999 black-and-white drama "The Woman on the Bridge".
