To say Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been recently making waves would be an understatement. Every new report about the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe paints an even crazier picture of what it will be about. To take things a step further, it was recently confirmed that Jon Bernthal's Punisher is set to make an appearance next to Tom Holland's Spidey — making for a bizarre (yet amazing) team-up that very few could've seen coming.
But while fans are wondering if Peter will get along with someone who likes to permanently take criminals out of the picture, a bigger question to ponder is: Why would the two need to join forces? Many have theorized that this is part of a bigger Devil's Reign storyline, where multiple heroes come together to rise against the Kingpin and his new role as the Mayor of New York. After all,...

Dakota Johnson has continued to be candid about her thoughts on the 2024 film she headlined, Madame Web, and the people who made the creative decisions behind it.
Even before Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off Madame Web was released in February 2024, its star Dakota Johnson talked candidly about her experiences of working on an expensive superhero film. Trying to act in front of a blue screen was, she said, “psychotic”. Days before the film debuted, she talked about the “drastic” changes made to the script after she’d signed on to play the clairvoyant protagonist, Cassie Web.
Over a year later, Johnson still has some strong opinions about the much-maligned film, which ended up being both a critical and financial disappointment for Sony. Talking to The LA Times about her new film The Materialists, directed by Celine Song, Johnson was asked about Madame Web, and whether it had made her think twice...

Thanks to Sony Pictures' largely terrible track record with its Marvel movies, most fans didn't have high expectations for Madame Web. So, when the movie arrived with 12% on Rotten Tomatoes and made only $100.3 million at the worldwide box office, it wasn't overly surprising.
Despite boasting a decent cast and a director with superhero experience in Sj Clarkson, very little about Madame Web worked. Eventually, it became a subject of ridicule and is now destined to be remembered as one of the worst superhero movies ever made.
Dakota Johnson led the movie as Cassandra Webb, and faced the wrath of critics and fans alike for what proved to be a...peculiar...performance. Throw in a pretty unhinged press tour, and the actor is lucky her career wasn't completely derailed.
Talking to The Los Angeles Times about Materialists, Johnson was asked about Madame Web and bluntly responded with a laugh, "It wasn’t my fault.

To say Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been surrounded in secrecy ever since its announcement would be an understatement. We're a little over a year from Spider-Man's upcoming adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, yet Disney and Sony have refused to share much about what's coming. But even when we've learned next to nothing about the movie's story from official sources, that doesn't mean we haven't been able to get a glimpse behind the curtain from time to time.
Insiders and scoopers have painted a fascinating picture about Spider-Man: Brand New Day. All signs seem to indicate that the movie will feature a street-level storyline with multiple villains, such as Scorpion and Mr. Negative. Furthermore, it appears Spidey won't be alone when facing the dangers that threaten New York City. Much to fans' surprise, it was recently reported that Bruce Banner will have a major role in the movie.

We all know Spider-Man's origin story. Peter Parker grew up an orphan with his aunt May and uncle Ben, was bitten by a radioactive spider during his teenage years, suffered a terrible loss, and now suits up as New York's greatest friendly neighborhood hero. That's how the tale (usually) goes, but there's an area in the hero's story that remains unexplored in multiple adaptations, and it is the death of his parents.
The Amazing Spider-Man saga tried to dive into the reason why Richard and Mary Parker weren't around to raise their son, but failed to fully deliver on that promise. However, comic book pages solved that mystery back in 1964. Amazing Spider-Man Annual (1964) No. 5 revealed that Albert Malik's Red Skull was the culprit behind their deaths (or so it seemed back at the time).
See, Peter's parents were undercover CIA agents trying to infiltrate the Red Skull's operation. Unfortunately for them,...

The 45th Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) will be held on March 1, 2025, to recognize the worst films of 2024. The nominees were originally set to be announced on January 16, but due to wildfires in Southern California, the announcement was delayed several times, eventually being revealed on January 21.
The nominees were chosen by 1,202 members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation, including movie fans, critics, and journalists. This year, many comic book adaptations received nominations, such as ‘The Crow,’ ‘Madame Web,’ ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ and ‘Kraven the Hunter.’
Several well-known actors, including Ariana DeBose, Cate Blanchett, and Joaquin Phoenix, were also mentioned, with Jon Voight getting a nod for his roles in four films. 2024 was really bad for superhero adaptations considering that the movies received eighteen nominations overall.

Spoilers for "Venom: The Last Dance" follow.
Every time a new "Venom" movie arrives, poor Tom Hardy has to answer the same question over and over again: will his Eddie Brock/Venom ever meet Tom Holland's Spider-Man? To be fair, it's not an outlandish question — Venom is, after all, traditionally a Spider-Man villain. However, due to confusing rights issues, Holland's Spidey and Hardy's Venom have never crossed paths. Sony owns the rights to all-things-Spider-Man, and they've licensed everyone's favorite web-slinger to Disney's MCU while making a bunch of (not very good) movies about supporting characters who appeared in the pages of Spider-Man comics (the "Venom" movies, "Morbius," and of course, "Madame Web," with "Kraven The Hunter" due out in December).
Hardy's apparently final go-around as Eddie Brock/Venom arrives in theaters this week in the form of "Venom: The Last Dance" (read our review here). And once again, intrepid...

Emma Roberts, who appeared alongside Dakota Johnson in this year’s Madame Web, has defended the superhero thriller.
Released in February, Sony’s vaguely Spider-Man-related superhero thriller Madame Web had such obvious signs of reshoots and general re-tailoring that we’ve been scratching our heads over it ever since.
The critically derided film does have one strident fan, though: Emma Roberts, who plays one Mary Parker – a woman pregnant with a baby whom the movie seemingly can’t name for legal reasons.
Roberts, who’s currently promoting her new comedy Space Cadet, told Variety, “I personally really loved Madame Web. I really enjoyed the movie. I thought that everyone in it was great. The director, Sj Clarkson, I think did an amazing job. She’s the reason I wanted to do that movie.”
The actor then said that the film’s reception wasn’t necessarily due to its own flaws,...

The runtime for Sony's Madame Web has reportedly made its way online.
According to the Norwegian ticketing company website FilmWeb (via The Direct), Madame Web will have a runtime of 1 hour and 56 minutes (or 116 mins). If true, that would make Madame Web the longest installment yet in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, a record that was previously held by 2018's Venom (112 mins). Marvel’s Madame Web is nearly ready to make its Valentine’s Day debut in theaters, and Sydney Sweeney’s Spider-Woman costume is here to set fans’ hearts (and pants) on fire. Sweeney’s Spider-Woman costume looks fantastic, inspired by the character’s appearance in Marvel Comics. While I question the designer’s choice of headgear, the body suit, complete with silver web lining, is right out of the comics. The grey material along Sweeney’s arms is new but oddly fitting.

A show that ignited a passionate fanbase will begin its concluding chapter on Sunday, March 19 with the first episode of a six-episode season. Masterpiece has released a trailer for the upcoming final season of Sanditon, the drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel, that was adapted and created by Andrew Davies and produced by Red Planet Pictures.
The series took on its own direction (Austen only finished 11 chapters before her death) and writer Justin Young took the helm as lead writer and executive producer for seasons 2 and 3. The drama will premiere on 9 p.m. Sunday, March 19, on PBS. The series also will be available to stream the same day.
Returning characters for Season 3 include Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams), Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke), Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes), Tom Parker (Kris Marshall), Mary Parker (Kate Ashfield), Lady Denham (Anne Reid), Edward Denham (Jack Fox), Arthur Parker (Turlough Convery), Lady Susan (Sophie Winkleman), and Ralph Starling (Cai Brigden).
More new faces are joining the series, like Lady Montrose, who is the quintessential Austen mother. She arrives in Sanditon with one objective: matches for her children, Lydia and Henry. Lydia is an independent young woman who is not as eager for a match as her mother, while Lord Henry Montrose is charismatic and confident, but he holds a secret.
There’s also Rowleigh Pryce, a wealthy, curmudgeonly investor who is interested in teaming up with Tom Parker on the seaside resort’s expansion. Their plans become complicated when Rowleigh runs into Lady Denham. Also new to Sanditon is Alexander’s brother, Samuel Colbourne – a lawyer, and a charming bachelor.

“Sanditon has been an incredibly special series for Masterpiece, and we know it has found its way into the hearts of countless fans,” said Susanne Simpson, Masterpiece Executive Producer. “While we are sad to say goodbye to the series, we know our audience has a lot to look forward to in this new season.”
Sanditon premiered in 2020. Inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel, the show was adapted and created by Andrew Davies and produced by Red Planet Pictures. The series took on its own direction (Austen only finished 11 chapters before her death) and writer Justin Young took the helm as lead writer and executive producer for seasons 2 and 3.
