Image
Fox's smash-hit medical drama, Doc, has set its return date for Season 2, and it's coming back even bigger than the first. Season 1 premiered to instant success on the network, becoming its most-watched series in more than five years with over 16 million viewers tuning in for the season premiere. This led to a swift Season 2 renewal, which came ahead of the penultimate episode. A new teaser trailer for the new season has also been released.

What sets Doc apart from other medical dramas is that it’s inspired by the remarkable true story of Pierdante Piccioni, an Italian doctor who, after a tragic accident in 2013, lost 12 years of his memory. The story was first...

Image
Before things went all crazy with bunkhouses and brutal ranch politics, there was a Western that quietly did what some of the newer hits are still trying to figure out. It starred a future cowboy icon and had all the chaos-fueled stuff you’d want in a show. It’s one of those blink-and-you-miss-it classics that proves the Western genre had legs even before streaming wars.

Frankly speaking, if this had landed on the right network with a certain big-name creator at the helm, it might’ve rewritten TV history before anyone even said “Dutton.”

Fox Upfront: Jamie Foxx’s Trump Impression, Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar’s ‘Unhinged Bears,’ and Letterman Gets Picked Up by Michael Strahan

Fox Entertainment’s upfront presentation to advertisers was a star-studded affair that began with Jamie Foxx mocking Elon Musk and President Donald Trump, and ended with Joel McHale popping a bottle of champagne with a prop knife in Gordon Ramsay’s honor.

At one point in between, Tom Brady flubbed a stunt pass to Rob Gronkowski so bad, the ball landed among the Madison Avenue execs. (That was not long after Gronkowski took a shot at his and Brady’s 73-year-old former coach Bill Belichick for dating 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson.)

Held Monday at the Manhattan Center in New York, the event showcasing Fox broadcast network’s 2025-2026 schedule — as well as programming across ad-supported streamer Tubi, Fox Sports and Fox News — kicked off with some jokes from “Beat Shazam” host Foxx.

“It’s been a hectic few weeks for me,” the actor said. “But truly I wanted to be here.

Fox Fall 2025 Schedule: Reality & Sports Rule 5 Nights As Monday Goes Unscripted, ‘The Floor’ Succeeds ‘The Masked Singer’

For as far back as memory goes, Monday has been synonymous with drama on the Fox schedule. Some of the network’s signature series of the last couple of decades like 24, House, Prison Break and 9-1-1 have called the night home for all or significant portion of their run. That will change this coming fall when Monday night will go unscripted in a non-strike year with Name That Tune and Celebrity Weakest Link, leaving Tuesday night as the only night featuring live-action scripted programming on the network.

“Thematically, our goal for Fox is to deliver entertainment that speaks to our strengths. Irreverent. Fun And a place where comedy and emotional connectivity run throughout our schedule,” Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade said during the network’s pre-upfront press call Sunday.

Here comes 72 hours of ballyhoo and bluster about the state of the television business. Spoiler alert: Every platform making a upfront presentation this week in New York will find the way to pitch themselves as No. 1 in something.

But the network with the strongest story to tout won’t be part of this week’s parade. CBS staked out an early announcement of its 2025-26 season schedule on May 6. It’s the second year in a row that CBS has opted not to host an event during upfront week, in favor of smaller events in multiple cities.

CBS leaders George Cheeks and Amy Reisenbach took a hard-won victory lap last week as they unveiled the 2025-26 schedule. The pair made a presentation to media reporters that emphasized CBS’ biggest achievement has been to find new shows that connect with the network’s established linear audience and also stand out on...

Josh Charles To Star In Fox Adaptation Of British Hit ‘Doc Martin’ Ordered To Series For 2025-26
Image
Exclusive: Doc, meat Doc Martin. On the heels of Doc‘s breakout success, Fox is doubling down on medical procedurals with a series order to one-hour comedy Best Medicine, based on the hugely popular British series Doc Martin. Josh Charles will take on the iconic character famously played by Martin Clunes for almost two decades.

Charles is set as the lead, the peculiar and brilliant Doctor Martin Best, in Best Medicine, from writer/executive producer Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City). Wholly owned by Fox Entertainment, the series, produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, is slated to premiere during the 2025-26 season.

As Deadline noted in its annual pilot season report this past March, the Doc Martin adaptation had emerged as a frontrunner on the hourlong side at Fox. With the project headed to a likely series green light, Fox recently approached Charles for the lead...

The Fate of Denis Leary's 'Going Dutch' Has Been Decided by Fox
Image
Going Dutch is returning for a second tour of duty. The freshman Fox sitcom has been renewed for a second season at the network. Deadline reports that both Going Dutch and its network stablemate, Animal Control, will be returning next season. The series' first season is now streaming on Hulu.

Deadline reports that although the Denis Leary-led series' ratings were not spectacular, the fact that the series is produced and owned by Fox may have played a part in the network's decision. Fox is also selling the series internationally; unlike many sitcoms, it is an international production, with a military base in Ireland standing in for Garrison Stroopsdorf, the fictional US Army base in Holland that serves as the show's primary setting. Additionally, Going Dutch and Animal Control are the only live-action sitcoms currently on Fox. This may also mean that Fox may not order any new half-hour comedies for the upcoming TV season.

The Excellent Stephen King Thriller on Netflix You Likely Missed Is a Disturbing Must-Watch
Image
Stephen King is one of the greatest storytellers of our time. He’s a prolific author with more adaptations of his work than any other living writer. With so much content floating around, it’s probable that you’ve overlooked at least a few compelling adaptations. With that in mind, I’m about to champion a Stephen King feature you may not have seen but absolutely should.

I’m talking about the Netflix original 1922. The film went straight to Netflix after premiering at Fantastic Fest in 2017. The streamer is a great home for content. However, without a theatrical release, I think the film got lost in the shuffle for many. And that’s a damn shame.

Here’s the lowdown on the setup:

A farmer conspires to murder his wife for monetary gain and convinces his teen son to participate. Wilfred and his son Henry soon become delusional as they continue on their lives.

Medical Dramas Are This TV Season’s Buzziest Genre as Netflix and Max Join the Fray
Image
Doctors have been the object of fascination, comfort and entertainment on television since the start of the medium. But the medical genre holds the crown for this TV season’s buzziest genre, with a variety of new series debuting across linear and streaming platforms and capturing attention in a crowded space.

Seven new doctor shows have debuted since September. Broadcast networks tend to have as many as two medical series airing concurrently, but this year saw streamers Max and Netflix jump into the fray with their first forays into the genre, as they shift to making originals with longevity potential at a lower price point.

It’s a genre that’s been a reliable kingmaker since the days of “St. Elsewhere” and “ER,” and proves to be the closest thing to a sure bet for audience engagement in 2025 — regardless of where it premieres.

The Halle Berry Sci-Fi Movie That Netflix Won't Release
Image
Occasionally in Hollywood, a studio will shoot the bulk of a movie and then decide not to release it. For example, thanks to the slash-and-burn ethic of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, the all-but-completed "Batgirl" was canned along with titles like "Scoob! Holiday Haunt." The former had wrapped filming and was already in post-production when Zaslav axed it from Wbd's release schedule, reportedly because he deemed the movie more valuable to the company as a tax write-off. That was also the case with "Holiday Haunt," a prequel film to the 2020 animated "Scooby-Doo" feature "Scoob!"

These are, of course, just a pair of examples. There are also many, many other unrealized or unreleased projects from cinema history. I personally wish I could've seen the feature-length version of "Swirlee," a film noir about a cop with an ice cream cone for a head. (It's very real.)

It seems that Netflix has...

Sure, there’s the matter of what will happen for Amy (Molly Parker) when it comes to her ex-husband Michael (Omar Metwally) and new love Jake (Jon Ecker) — when she woke without eight years of memories following a car accident, she didn’t know she was divorced and had moved on — but we’re more concerned about her friendship with Gina (Amirah Vann), which was left in a rocky place. Gina had needed Amy to be there for her like she was for her best friend time and time again, and she wasn’t. Below, Vann reflects on Season 1 and where it left off for her character and looks ahead...

‘Doc’ Finale Audience Up 9% Over Series Premiere, Ending First Season On High Note For Fox
Image
Doc concluded its first season on a high note for Fox.

The finale of the freshman medical drama, which aired Tuesday, secured 2.4M total live + same-day viewers, per Nielsen, marking a 9% increase from the series premiere. In the 18-49 demo, the finale skyrocketed 56% over the premiere to a 0.28 L+Sd rating.

The demo success is particularly noteworthy, since its the strongest 18-49 growth for any major broadcast network scripted series, drama or new show, over the course of its premiere season since Fox’s Empire in 2015.

Averaging 2.3M live + same-day viewers and a 0.24 18-49 demo rating over the course of the first season, Doc is Fox’s highest-rated and most-watched new drama this season. Ultimately, episodes have swelled to an average of around 7.2M multi-platform viewers, more than tripling the L+Sd audience.

Doc has been quite the success story for Fox. Amid a swath of new medical dramas on broadcast,...

‘Doc’ Star Molly Parker on That Satisfying Finale Twist, the Show’s Love Triangle and Looking Forward to Season 2
Image
Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “…Must Come Down,” the Season 1 finale of Fox’s “Doc.”

Molly Parker never expected to lead a project that she considers as mainstream as a network procedural. In her 30 years in the business, the Canadian actor has tended to gravitate toward the margins, making a name for herself as an indie darling and a strong supporting player in the early years of prestige TV.

But in spring 2023, just days before the writers went on strike in Hollywood, Parker took a meeting with “Doc” executive producers Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg about headlining their new gender-flipped Fox adaptation of a popular Italian medical drama. At the time, Parker could not bear the thought of spending time away from her teenage son — who was then going into his junior year in high school in Los Angeles — in order to shoot a months-long project in Toronto.

10 Best Western Series Streaming Right Now
Image
More than 60 years after shows like The Rifleman and Gunsmoke aired on television, westerns and neo-westerns are once again popular amongst audiences. But, with so many options now available on TV and online, it may be difficult to choose which series to watch.

Today’s best westerns (not to be confused with the hotel chain) capture the feel of early entries in the genre while staying relevant by incorporating modern dialogue and sociopolitical topics. This has allowed the genre to reach a wider variety of viewers than it might have otherwise done in the 1950s and ‘60s.

Wynonna Earp Brings Supernatural Elements to the Western Genre 2016-2021, Streaming on Netflix

Far from taking a traditional western approach, Wynonna Earp focuses on a descendant of lawman Wyatt Earp as she faces supernatural foes in her hometown of Purgatory. Another key character is the notorious Doc Holliday, who is played by Schitt’s Creek alum Tim Rozon.

Messy, Complex, and Real: TV Is Finally Embracing Imperfect Women and Getting It Right
Image
One of the best things to emerge on television these days is that of multifaceted, flawed female characters.

For a while, the standard for female characters was in how they contributed to the furtherance of male storylines.

Even female-led television shows often had to revolve around an often younger female character whom viewers could deem “likable.”

(Courtesy of Fox) TV Used to Stick Female-Focused Stories in a Narrow Box

Television rarely showed women to be their truly messy, flawed, and complicated selves because there was a genuine fear that if they weren’t also likable, people wouldn’t want to tune into their stories.

This is particularly true for “middle-aged” female characters. Despite their demographic dominating television viewership and being the primary target audience for many series, series were often cautious in telling the stories of those women.

Much like in modern society, more often than not, television also didn...
