Survivor is the crown jewel of the CBS Network, but did you know it almost didn’t happen? That’s right, all the way back in 1994, Charlie Parsons created a survival reality show called Castaway and pitched it to the BBC. However, they rejected the idea, so Parsons took the idea to Sweden, where it aired as Expedition Robinson in 1997 and became an immediate hit. When American producer Mark Burnett watched the same, he thought it needed better production and more focus on human drama.
So, he reworked the concept and pitched it to several networks. After a year of multiple rejections, CBS finally said yes in 1999, and the result was Survivor: Borneo. This was the very first season of the show and was released in 2000. Hosted by Jeff Probst, the show became a massive hit, bringing in millions of viewers. Meanwhile, the BBC missed out on one of the biggest reality shows out there.

National Geographic has released the trailer and key art for Underdogs, which is narrated by Ryan Reynolds and will premiere on June 15 at 9/8c. It will be simulcast on ABC and will be available to stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
For 137 years, National Geographic has been bringing you breathtaking wildlife footage of iconic animals—penguins, elephants, whales, and more. As if those windbags need any more free PR.
Hold on to your binoculars, folks, as Nat Geo gets up close and personal with the outcasts of the animal kingdom in Underdogs. From their hidden talents to their unconventional hygiene choices to their unsavory courtship rituals, Underdogs celebrates the unique behaviors of the animals who don’t usually get to be the stars of the show.

Ryan Reynolds is a proven winner, as is his soccer team Wrexham A.F.C. (ever since he and Rob McElhenney bought the club). Reynolds’ new National Geographic show, however, celebrates nothing but the Earth’s biggest losers.
Underdogs, a five-episode series narrated and executive produced by Reynolds, showcases animals on the very base level of the food chain, the kind with “bizarre mating strategies, surprising superpowers, deception, dubious parenting skills and gross-out behaviors,” per Nat Geo. This will be stuff you’ve never seen before — on Nat Geo or elsewhere — like a cave in New Zealand that “glows brighter than a bachelor pad under a black light thanks to the glowing butts of millions of mucus-coated grubs.”
Harry Gregson-Williams composed the show’s music — that’s nice. But somehow, Reynolds got Green Day to write and record the show’s theme song. Naturally, it rocks.

Kindness is a fickle thing on a reality series as intense as Survivor. Created by Charlie Parsons, this CBS hit has offered countless stories of people doing everything possible to survive the elements (and their fellow competitors) for a grand prize of $1,000,000. Every winner needs to be somewhat kind given that the "Sole Survivor" is decided by a jury vote in the finale, with the opinions of those who've been eliminated directly deciding who triumphs in the end. History has shown that very rarely can someone be completely ruthless and still win, with some of the series' most successful players dooming themselves by upsetting literally everyone in their fight to the finish. That's why the best Survivor victors are the ones who know when to be nice to their opponents, and why one of this season's castaways might have just tanked her entire game.

While the hit reality showSurvivor is filled with entertaining tropes and archetypes, few are as beloved as the 'Hot Mess Tribe.' Created by Charlie Parsons, this CBS series has amazed viewers for more than two decades; its difficult challenges, harsh elements, and cutthroat gameplay make it not only one of the hardest reality shows on TV but one of the most entertaining. Yet while it's always great to see someone triumph over unbeatable odds, viewers can't help but love the trend in recent seasons that sees one tribe just being consistently worse than everyone else around them.

Few reality shows have revolutionized the genre as much as CBS'Survivor. Created by Charlie Parsons, for more than two decades this program has re-defined the medium with its stories of contestants facing intense challenges, harsh elements, and one another for the grand prize of one million dollars. Yet even beyond that, the show is revolutionary for its representation; for a bulk of its airing (before season 40), the show had been called out for allowing contestants to be blatantly homophobic, racist, and misogynistic to others, creating an unequal setting where a person's identity could cost them the win.

No matter how interesting a concept or intense the gameplay, the best reality shows are built by their hosts. Namely, how well each series' moderator interacts with their players and the audience to create a riveting storyline impossible not to become invested in. There have been many amazing hosts across the genre's history, but few are as renowned as Survivor's Jeff Probst. Created by Charlie Parsons, this CBS show demands the most out of its host; its cutthroat setup and the many contestants it introduces every season means he has to work hard in tandem with editing to give viewers a comprehensive, enjoyable grasp of what's playing out onscreen.

Long before new Survivor fans had to worry about which seasons to watch first, Jeff Probst's hit reality show's first season aired. By that point, the show's greatest players hadn't shown up yet and there weren't lots of seasons for fans to compare to each other. In fact, fans didn't even know what would happen when the first player was medically evacuated.
After the first season of Survivor finished, it seemed like virtually everyone was talking about the "villain," Richard Hatch. Now, all these years later, most Survivor fans don't seem to realize why Richard deserves credit for creating the show that is now known as Survivor. Thankfully, Richard exclusively spoke to TheThings about his role in creating Survivor and why it has been forgotten.

Reality television is filled with big personalities, those contestants whose brazen behaviors entertain everyone watching at home (while often annoying the people they're actually competing against). Every show has cast members like this, but few are as memorable as the ones from Survivor; this Charlie Parsons CBS series has introduced some of the biggest names in reality TV since its early iterations. And now airing in the 47th season, it is no different. We're not even halfway through the installment and there are already numerous entertaining characters who love declaring why they're better than everyone else around them.

Throughout the history of Survivor, the beloved reality show has featured many great players. Those players tend to be what makes the difference between ranking seasons as great or horrible. For that reason, it can be really disappointing when a player has to be medically evacuated.
That said, even fans who are still figuring out which seasons to watch first will know that Jeff Probst is a huge part of the show. With that in mind, it is shocking to know that fans only get to see a fragment of who Jeff is on the show. Thankfully, Survivor's Jonathan Penner exclusively told TheThings about the version of Jeff that fans never get to see.

While reality television is filled with iconic villains, few shows have produced as many legendary antagonists as CBS' Survivor. Created by Charlie Parsons, this series demands the most out of its contestants as they struggle through both the elements and each others' strategy for a grand prize of $1,000,000. In any setting as cutthroat as this one, it's expected that there will be a few antagonists, those players who are willing to draw from the shadier parts of their personality to make it further in the game and, hopefully, win it all. Every season features at least one of these kinds of people, though fans have noted a distinct change in what kind of villains Surivvor's "Modern Era" (seasons 41+) are introducing.

One of the original reality television shows, Survivor has been a staple on CBS for the last twenty-four years, entering Season 47 this fall. Created by Charlie Parsons, the series follows contestants, known as "castaways," as they are left on a beach in Fiji for twenty-six days, forced to work together to make it to the final tribal council, where one is crowded the sole survivor. Over the course of its many seasons, Survivor has existed in many forms, with Season 41 officially marking what is being called the New Era of Survivor, with buzz surrounding the upcoming Season 47 hinting at even new twists and turns for the contestants.

Well, that just happened. Fans have been excited to see the return of the historic reality series Survivor, CBS's groundbreaking reality show that has astounded viewers for more than two decades by putting random casts of strangers together to fight it out for a $1,000,000 grand prize. Created by Charlie Parsons, the program has just premiered its historic 47th season, and along with offering all the cutthroat intensity the series is known for, this episode was something that nobody could have expected: utterly hilarious. This is for a variety of reasons; possibly it is the desire to "play the game" that is driving them to make huge mistakes on day one. Maybe it's a castaway's anxiety creating one of the most shocking confessions this show has ever seen.

The best reality competition shows are built by their contestants, those iconic cast members whose scenes of intense gameplay and cutthroat strategy help bring their season to a whole new level of amazing. Nowhere is that more true than for Survivor; created by Charlie Parsons on CBS, while the series does have returnee seasons (installments for players who've competed before) these rarely give viewers real insight into how their favorite players have been since first stepping onto the show's beach. Whether it be a hyper-focus on their actions in-game or this brutal setting simply not having space for a player to update their fans, it leaves many long-time viewers disappointed that they know so little about the people they've poured hours of onscreen support into. Well, luckily for all, one of the most jaw-dropping reunions of some of Survivor's most legendary players just occurred.

“A Knight’s Tale” is set to be turned into a musical, with the theatrical show set to debut in Manchester, U.K. next year.
The 2001 movie, which starred Heath Ledger, Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell, continues to endure. It stars Ledger as a peasant who passes himself off as a nobleman and takes the world of jousting by storm. But Count Adhemar (Sewell), the bad boy of jousting, isn’t ready to hand over his crown, leading to a fierce rivalry.
It was written and directed by Brian Helgeland and produced by Columbia Pictures.
Helgeland recently revealed he had attempted to make a sequel to the film following the teenage daughter of Ledger’s character, with Sony and Netflix potentially interested before ultimately turning it down.
The film has now been adapted for the stage by Runaway Entertainment (“101 Dalmatians the Musical”) and will open on April 11, 2025 for a limited run.

While every reality series puts its contestants through a unique brand of stress, few shows demand more from their players than Survivor. This historic CBS franchise created by Charlie Parsons has awed fans for decades with its stories of human triumph, each season seeing a new group of castaways get stranded on an island and fight off the elements - and each other's cutthroat strategy - to make it to the end and win the $1,000,000 grand prize.

Derived from the Swedish television series Expedition Robinson created by Charlie Parsons, Survivor is a reality television phenomenon that has now been on the air for twenty-four years. Upon its premiere in 2000, the show was an instant hit, with audiences captivated by its premise of "stranding" a large group of individuals on an island in tribes and having these contestants vote each other out one by one over about a month. Hosted for almost 700 episodes by the personable Jeff Probst, Survivor was co-created by Charlie Parsons and Mark Burnett, whose previous projects include creating Shark Tank, The Apprentice, and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?. Survivor has now been on the air for so long that kids that grew up watching the series are old enough to start playing; a trend that has been seen throughout recent seasons. The series has been nominated for sixty-three Primetime Emmy Awards, winning...

Like all reality shows, the legendary Survivor franchise has worked hard to grow and evolve with the audience who made it so famous more than two decades ago. Created by Charlie Parsons for CBS and hosted by the beloved Jeff Probst, this historic series has persisted while others have floundered by adapting to modern times and updating their competition style to ensure viewers and contestants feel seen by the complex rules at play. This has yielded varying results, with the show being celebrated for its newfound inclusion but criticized for its unnecessary need for 'twists' every season. However, what Survivor has begun suffering from is something that all reality shows know well: the behavior of its cast.

The best reality shows are built on their most jaw-dropping, unbelievable moments, those times when everyone watching is baffled by what's going on and loving every second of it. CBS' Survivor, created by Charlie Parsons, has seen quite a few of those in its more than two decades on air, with a majority of these scenes coming during an episode's 'Tribal Council' portion. These are the climaxes of each installment, scenes that see the contestants vote to eliminate one of their own and hope that their strategy has kept them secure enough to remain another day in this fight for $1,000,000.

Reality series, no matter how wild their premise, often try to touch upon real aspects of modern society that their viewers can relate to. One of the earlier series to attempt this was Survivor, created by Charlie Parsons for CBS. A show that took marooning strangers on an island and challenged them to survive the elements - and each other's strategy. It would yield not only great TV, but also great examples of people triumphing over terrible situations. For a large portion of its long history, the program has shown just that; from iconic underdog stories to people drawing on all their talents to outsmart others.

All the winners of Survivor, CBS' historic reality series created by Charlie Parsons, are iconic in their own right. Each one conquered their time in this pulse-pounding game and, through their unique means, managed to snatch that $1,000,000 prize and the title of 'Sole Survivor'. Yet even in this pantheon of the series' most accomplished competitors, some individuals aren't appreciated for just how much of an impact they had - not only on their season but the series as a whole.

While the purpose of reality television is to showcase its competitors' authentic reactions to their wild situations, it doesn't always do this in the most respectful way. Especially in the medium's earlier years, there were countless cringe-inducing scenes of reality shows spouting off some toxic stigma around a topic and perpetuating a harmful stereotype — and no program knows that more than Survivor. Created by Charlie Parsons for CBS, this legendary program has wowed viewers for more than two decades with its thrilling premise of having contestants fight against one another for the ultimate prize of $1,000,000.

It's not abnormal for famous reality shows to switch up their format, in fact, a successful series is usually one that can evolve but still keep its fanbase tuning in every week. That's the case for Survivor, created by Charlie Parsons for CBS, a historic reality competition that has seen numerous changes since it premiered more than two decades ago. The success of these has varied, with many being extremely necessary, like ensuring its cast reflects the show's diverse viewers and making the game a respectful one for each of them. But there is one kind of change the show has attempted numerous times that always yields upset from the watchers at home: changes to its rules.

The most intense reality competition shows are those where one small mistake can ruin someone's game, and nowhere is that more true than on Survivor. This cutthroat reality series, created by Charlie Parsons for CBS, is one of television's most complex, its premise challenging players to use their survival savvy and skills in deceit to vote one another out. It's a setting that truly anyone can win, but while the legendary franchise has seen some truly remarkable winners, it's not too common that a person who spends most of the time struggling can come back and win their whole season.

Drama is integral to some of reality tv's best shows, and the cutthroat competition Survivor is no different. This historic series, created by Charlie Parsons for CBS, has seen some of television's best moments of drama and tension across its 46 seasons. From harrowing tribal vote-outs to explosive arguments between players, this fight for $1,000,000 necessitates at least some theatrics in each installment as players backstab and lie to one another for a chance to win. But it's the best competitors who recognize how inevitable drama is on this show and utilize it. Throwing others into disarray and capitalizing on that chaos gets them further in the game. Even with only a few episodes of Suvivor 46 out, this season has already seen plenty of drama from its competitors - for better and for worse. Because while one of its survivors is causing turmoil to her advantage, another just cannot seem to stop...

In a hardcore game like Survivor, one wrong move can cost you the win. This historic reality series, created by Charlie Parsons for CBS, has wowed viewers for years with some of the most ingenious gameplay ever seen on television. From deceit, to bluffing, to the always iconic blindside, the series has become a masterclass for its best players. Each one of these TV legends works hard to manipulate everyone around them in the fight for $1,000,000. Even the most successful competitor can stumble, no matter how proficient someone may be at keeping secrets from everyone around them and making quiet moves to get further in the competition. One trait defines every player who lets their ego ruin a good game: overconfidence. There is such a thing as 'playing too hard' on Survivor, and as fans recently saw, it just cost one of the current season's frontrunners her chance to win.

Survivor is a nail-biting, high-intensity reality competition that brings out the absolute best (and often worst) in its competitors. Created by Charlie Parsons on CBS, this historical series has introduced audiences to hundreds of great players who approach the complex gameplay in their own unique ways. While there are similarities among many, each person's strategy is their own, as they're forced to work with whatever natural talents they bring onto the beach and the personalities of those around them to maneuver throughout the competition. With the franchise's newest installment beginning to heat up, a question has arisen: what role does emotion play in Survivor? Is it only ever a mistake to show others what you're truly feeling in this game of deceit, or is there a way to utilize your feelings to get yourself one day closer to the grand prize?...

Any good reality series must be able to grow and adapt to stay successful. Whether it be competitions or dating dramas, long-lasting shows are the ones that evolve to keep viewers intrigued, and no program has mastered that better than Survivor. Created by Charlie Parsons for CBS, this historic show has wowed audiences since its premiere more than 20 years ago by twisting its relatively simple premise into a nail-biting, exciting game of strategy and survival. It has persisted this long because of the fantastic moments and plots that its concept has created, though that doesn't mean the series hasn't shifted over its many seasons to try and spice things up. Various themes and twists have been implemented over the years, each one to varying success, but throughout these subtle attempts to change, Survivor has always upheld the core concept and sanctity of its game - until now. With Survivor 46 taking off with full force, it's become evident that these players are ready to do anything to win. Created by Charlie Parsons for CBS, this historic reality series has seen many contestants resort to brutal methods to kick their fellow players off the island and get one step closer to the $1,000,000 grand prize. Yet while many of them are willing to lie and cheat for the title of 'Sole Survivor,' very few earn the mantle of one of the franchise's iconic 'Villains.' These people flex their devilish traits often and are willing to be vicious to edge out everyone else for the win. This season has shocked fans with how readily its contestants are eager to give in to their more villainous tendencies; from lies about immunity idols to shocking backstabs, the first few episodes of the show's latest installment have already seen plenty of wicked moments.
