Prime Video this year has surprised us with some really good long-format content, the primary one being three web series – Patal Lok, Dupahiya, and Khauf. Now, the Ott platform is arriving with another web series, which has impressed with the trailer itself. Titled Gram Chikitsalay, the web series stars Amol Parashar and is a chapter out of Panchayat’s book.

Tvf is one of the pioneers of long-form on Ott. It started the wave with shows like Permanent Roommates, Tripling, and then finally, the mother of a social dramedy – Panchayat. In fact, the Ott viewership for Indian content can be clearly divided into the pre-Panchayat and post-Panchayat eras.

“The tree remembers, the axe forgets,” reads a proverb in the opening credits of a film that left me feeling like both the tree and the axe. While the film’s pain-lashed topography in the first overture is exceptional—with every vein on Varun Dhawan’s temples ringing a bell—the second overture gets audacious, tongue-in-cheek, subversive, and sometimes downright silly. As if the tree decided to get even with the axe by cutting off its own branches.

Cast in the mould of the greatest redemptive dramas Badlapur has an ambitious ambience of unmitigated doom irrigating almost every frame. It’s as if director Sriram Raghavan and his co-writer Arijit Biswas wants to shut out all light from his protagonist Raghavan’s life.

Some films just get you interested for all the wrong reasons. Think about it. This is a sex comedy about a bored and boring man who wants to pep up his life with a bit of wife-swapping… hardly the kind of theme and film that would qualify as little more than an effort to titillate audiences with a whole lot of junk feud in the domestic ambience.

Strangely and refreshingly Mixed Doubles, which completes 19 years on February 10, transcends the inherent limitations of its genre. The pincer-sharp dialogues (Anurag Kashyap) and a handful of believable actors who seem to understand the inner world of their urbane characters help to create a sense of lived-in reality in this brief film about giggly grief.

International sales agent Incredible Film has secured global distribution rights to “Amsterdamned II,” the sequel to Dick Maas’ 1988 cult classic, “Amsterdamned.” Veteran Dutch actor Huub Stapel reprises his role as detective Eric Visser, who once pursued a serial killer through the Dutch canals three decades ago, as he is brought back from retirement by a revelation that shakes him to his core. In the sequel, also directed by Maas, Visser and fellow detective Tara Lee fight against an evil that threatens them and the city of Amsterdam.

The film is a coproduction from the Netherlands’ 2CFilm and Parachute Pictures and Belgium’s Potemkino. Production is set to begin later this year, with release scheduled for 2025, in time for the city of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary.
