The upcoming episode of “Celebrity Family Feud” promises an exciting showdown as two powerhouse actresses, Taraji P. Henson and Jennifer Hudson, go head-to-head in a battle for charity. Texas’ film incentive program is getting a boost after Gov. Greg Abbott allowed a bill to become law on Sunday that will increase its funding to $300 million every two years, up from $200 million, which will run through 2035.

The original proposal, which was backed by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Hollywood heavyweights including Matthew McConaughey, Taylor Sheridan, Woody Harrelson and Dennis Quaid, would have allocated $500 million every two years, but was trimmed by the House last month. The amended version was approved by 23 to 8 by the Senate.

The move comes as the Lone Star State looks to lure television and film productions away from local rivals such as New Mexico and Georgia.

Since 2007, the program has been funded by lawmakers at varying levels, ranging from $45 million on the lower end to $200 million on the high end.

Senate Bill 22 allows the comptroller to deposit the funding into a new Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Fund.

Texas is beefing up its incentive for film production, as the state seeks to compete with regional rivals like New Mexico and Georgia.

Gov. Greg Abbott allowed a bill to become law on Sunday that increases the program to $300 million every two years, up from $200 million. The bill also guarantees that funding — which has been irregular in past budget cycles — for a full decade.

The goal is to nurture the local industry and ensure that films and TV shows that are set in Texas are also filmed there.

“We were losing Texas stories to New Mexico, Louisiana and Georgia,” said Chase Musslewhite, co-founder of the advocacy group Media for Texas. “We want to shoot them in Texas.”

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a former conservative talk radio host who has dabbled in film production, has made increasing the program a top priority — touting the measure as a bid to make Texas “America’s film capital.

Earlier this month, ABC formally announced that cast members from “General Hospital” and “The Young and the Restless” are among the contestants set to appear during the upcoming 11th season of “Celebrity Family Feud,” the primetime game show hosted by Steve Harvey (“Family Feud”).

The news comes weeks after actors from both shows shared behind the scenes snaps on Instagram and other social media platforms following a taping last month in Atlanta.

Although a specific air date for the soap opera cast matchup has not been revealed, the primetime game show is scheduled to launch its new season on Thursday, July 10 at 8:00 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.

Soap stars participating include Finola Hughes, Donnell Turner, Rena Sofer, Tanisha Harper and Maurice Benard from “General Hospital”, and Joshua Morrow, Michelle Stafford, Lauralee Bell, Melissa Claire Egan and Bryton James from “The Young and the Restless.

Netflix dropped a brand-new trailer on Saturday night for Happy Gilmore 2. Star Adam Sandler is surrounded by fellow Saturday Night Live cast members both past and present.

The new trailer came as part of Netflix's Tudum event, showcasing the biggest projects coming from the streaming service. Sandler's sequel to the 1996 comedy classic is among the most highly anticipated movies of the summer.

Sandler is known for casting his friends and family in supporting roles. The actor also frequently dives into his Saturday Night Live contacts to get help on his projects. And judging by the trailer, Happy Gilmore 2 is no different.

Texas is on the cusp of a sweeter deal for film and TV production, the latest state pushing to keep projects local.

The Texas House officially passed Senate Bill 22 Monday in a move that would boost cash available to $300 million every two years for the next decade starting with the September 1 fiscal year – so $1.5 billion total. That’s below an initial biennial $500 million the State Senate signed off on earlier this month but still a major upgrade in terms of dollars and stability.

Texas appropriations run on two-year cycles and so have its film incentives. About the highest they’ve ever been was $200 million for the current two-year cycle. The one before that was just $40 million. The new incentive would run through 2035, giving productions a whole new level of visibility. According to Deadline, Happy Gilmore 2 will be released on Netflix on July 25, 2025. The release date was mentioned in a Feb. 13 about Happy Gilmore 2 star Conor Sherry that went largely unnoticed by the public for almost a month. As always, until Netflix has officially confirmed the release date, fans should take this release date report with a grain of salt. However, it's worth noting that Deadline's July 2025 release date is several months later than the March/April 2025 release window that professional golfer John Daly, who will appear in the sequel, gave back in September 2024.

According to the Austin Business Journal, Season 2 will begin filming in South Austin.
