Plot: Twenty-nine years after winning his first Tour Championship, retired golfer Happy Gilmore returns to the sport to pay for his daughter Vienna’s ballet school.
Review (Warning: contains mild spoilers): When Happy Gilmore hit theaters in 1996, I was a dumb high schooler who had loved the idiocy of Adam Sandler’s Billy Madison and hoped for more of the sophomoric shenanigans that film delivered. Reteaming with Billy Madison co-writer Tim Herlihy, Happy Gilmore was a hilariously stupid sports movie with Sandler’s trademark yelling and bizarre jokes wrapped in an underdog tale. Naming his production company after his first two hit films, Adam Sandler has gone on to make dozens of similar movies interspersed with acclaimed movies like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems. After three decades, Sandler and Herlihy have returned to give audiences the long-awaited Happy Gilmore 2, which replicates the heartfelt stupidity of the original movie...

Happy Gilmore fans who have been waiting for the opportunity to channel their inner Happy are in luck. In tune with Netflix's release of the anticipated sequel to the 1996 cult classic, Callaway will release a limited-edition Odyssey Hockey Stick Putter in the shape of a hockey stick, a nod to the titular character's unconventional golf style. This release, alongside some themed golf balls from the golf equipment company, is perfectly timed for Happy Gilmore 2's debut on July 25.
Adam Sandler's Happy, famously a hockey player before his golfing career, brought his aggressive approach to the greens, often using a hockey stick as a putter. The new black and gold hockey stick putter directly references this questionable choice, complete with a design that honors Happy's favorite sports team, the Boston Bruins (the jersey frequently donned on the golf course); the handle is inscribed with Happy Gilmore. Callaway has...

Texas’ film incentive program is getting a boost after Gov. Greg Abbott allowed a bill to become law on Sunday that will increase its funding to $300 million every two years, up from $200 million, which will run through 2035.
The original proposal, which was backed by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Hollywood heavyweights including Matthew McConaughey, Taylor Sheridan, Woody Harrelson and Dennis Quaid, would have allocated $500 million every two years, but was trimmed by the House last month. The amended version was approved by 23 to 8 by the Senate.
The move comes as the Lone Star State looks to lure television and film productions away from local rivals such as New Mexico and Georgia.
Since 2007, the program has been funded by lawmakers at varying levels, ranging from $45 million on the lower end to $200 million on the high end.
Senate Bill 22 allows the comptroller to deposit the funding into a new Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Fund.

Texas is beefing up its incentive for film production, as the state seeks to compete with regional rivals like New Mexico and Georgia.
Gov. Greg Abbott allowed a bill to become law on Sunday that increases the program to $300 million every two years, up from $200 million. The bill also guarantees that funding — which has been irregular in past budget cycles — for a full decade.
The goal is to nurture the local industry and ensure that films and TV shows that are set in Texas are also filmed there.
“We were losing Texas stories to New Mexico, Louisiana and Georgia,” said Chase Musslewhite, co-founder of the advocacy group Media for Texas. “We want to shoot them in Texas.”
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a former conservative talk radio host who has dabbled in film production, has made increasing the program a top priority — touting the measure as a bid to make Texas “America’s film capital.

Netflix dropped a brand-new trailer on Saturday night for Happy Gilmore 2. Star Adam Sandler is surrounded by fellow Saturday Night Live cast members both past and present.
The new trailer came as part of Netflix's Tudum event, showcasing the biggest projects coming from the streaming service. Sandler's sequel to the 1996 comedy classic is among the most highly anticipated movies of the summer.
Sandler is known for casting his friends and family in supporting roles. The actor also frequently dives into his Saturday Night Live contacts to get help on his projects. And judging by the trailer, Happy Gilmore 2 is no different.
Current SNL writer and Please Don't Destroy member Martin Herlihy gets an early appearance in the trailer. Herlihy's father, Tim, frequently collaborates with Sandler and co-wrote both Happy Gilmore movies.

John Cusack brought troubling stalker behavior, er, teen rom-com courtship to new heights in 1989’s Say Anything, standing outside the family home of valedictorian Diane Court with a boombox raised above his head. As everyone remembers, Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” was the song that Lloyd Dobler chose to wake the neighbors. But that scene could have sounded much different if Cusack had his way.
That’s because “In Your Eyes” wasn’t the first song director Cameron Crowe tried in the iconic scene. “No, not at all,” he told Dan Patrick in 2017. “In fact, that was a scene that was not working at all.”
What was the problem? Blame it on Cusack’s love of the ska-punk band Fishbone. Crowe was also a fan, which accounted for the original song blasting out of Lloyd’s boombox: “Bonin’ in the Boneyard.” Give a listen and dig the amorous vibes...

Texas is on the cusp of a sweeter deal for film and TV production, the latest state pushing to keep projects local.
The Texas House officially passed Senate Bill 22 Monday in a move that would boost cash available to $300 million every two years for the next decade starting with the September 1 fiscal year – so $1.5 billion total. That’s below an initial biennial $500 million the State Senate signed off on earlier this month but still a major upgrade in terms of dollars and stability.
Texas appropriations run on two-year cycles and so have its film incentives. About the highest they’ve ever been was $200 million for the current two-year cycle. The one before that was just $40 million. The new incentive would run through 2035, giving productions a whole new level of visibility. It offers direct cash grants with percentages tiered based on spending up to 25% for $1.5 million of qualified in-state expenditures. That’s an increase from 20% currently,...

Rob McElhenney’s Fat Mac storyline in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was one of the most memorable bits from the long-running sitcom. McElhenney underwent a drastic physical transformation for his role, gaining 60 pounds in a matter of weeks. However, McElhenney was in for a harsh truth once he achieved this near-impossible feat.
The actor later opened up about this weight gain transformation, sharing how he didn’t get the deserved recognition for the role. While McElhenney was casual and humorous in his tone about this, the fans of the show would be sad that his achievement was largely overlooked by the viewers.

Jack and Jill is peak Adam Sandler, outrageously goofy and packed with over-the-top humor. When it hit theaters, it didn’t exactly win over critics, but over time, it’s become one of those so-bad-it’s-good comedies that deserves a second look.
With a star-studded cast, including Al Pacino in a role no one saw coming and a hilarious Johnny Depp making a cameo wearing a Justin Bieber T-shirt, the film had all the ingredients for a wild ride.

Adam Sandler‘s Jack and Jill might not have been a hit with critics, but it had it all: laughs, heart, and a shockingly star-studded lineup.

The release date for Happy Gilmore 2 may have just been quietly revealed. While Netflix has not officially confirmed the date, the long-awaited sequel will reportedly hit the streamer in July.
According to Deadline, Happy Gilmore 2 will be released on Netflix on July 25, 2025. The release date was mentioned in a Feb. 13 about Happy Gilmore 2 star Conor Sherry that went largely unnoticed by the public for almost a month. As always, until Netflix has officially confirmed the release date, fans should take this release date report with a grain of salt. However, it's worth noting that Deadline's July 2025 release date is several months later than the March/April 2025 release window that professional golfer John Daly, who will appear in the sequel, gave back in September 2024.

iHeartMedia, the Am and FM giant powered by 870 radio stations and growing digital ambitions, saw its podcast revenue rise to $139.6 million in the fourth quarter, up about 6 percent year-over-year. The company cited increased demand from advertisers, even as it saw rising operating expenses due to content costs and podcast profit sharing costs.
The company reported total revenue of $1.118 billion, up 4.8 percent from the same frame last year. And CFO Rich Bressler said that iHeart had about $4.52 billion of net debt outstanding, which he described as “the lowest net debt position in the history of our company.”
On the company’s earnings call, video podcasts — a format that Spotify is pivoting toward and that YouTube claims 1 billion users watch on its platform — became a talking point. iHeart CEO Bob Pittman was asked by Bank of America analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich about growth in that segment as some consumers shift attention.

Over the years, Hollywood has delivered an abundance of memorable on-screen partnerships -- Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, among many others. Over 30 years after their first collaboration, it's probably safe to add Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to the list.
Together, the dynamic duo have produced memorable entertainment aplenty, putting their remarkable chemistry to good use in everything from Kevin Smith's "Dogma" to Affleck's "Air." These guys have teamed up on nearly a dozen projects, even for a brief cameo or minor supporting role. The truck attack that killed 15 and injured dozens in New Orleans’ French Quarter early Wednesday morning has cast a pall over the dawn of the new year — but it hasn’t deterred President-elect Donald Trump and his sycophants from pushing misinformation to politicize the tragedy.
Trump responded to the attack on Wednesday by suggesting that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the mass murder who was killed by New Orleans law enforcement, was an undocumented migrant. Jabbar, 42, was a U.S.-born citizen and Army veteran, according to federal investigators.

Yellowstone centers on the Dutton family. John Dutton, the family patriarch played by Kevin Costner, has been a key figure in the series since the first season. The powerful ranch owner and his family control the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the country, and with it comes conflicts with Indigenous interests and corporate developers who seek to extend their chains and dark secrets. While it may be hard to believe, Yellowstone is Costner's first regular series role. Sheridan had pitched Costner several roles before John Dutton, but it was this project that really drew the actor to be on board.
Since Yellowstone's release, people have been drawn to the show's authentic portrayal of ranch life and real-life issues. Whether the show is based on real life is a question that often comes into viewers' minds. The Western series is simply one of the shows that seem too real not to be true,...

One of Jennifer Aniston's most classic rom-coms of her career is finding success nearly 15 years after release. Just Go With It, the 2011 romantic comedy starring in which Adam Sandler also stars opposite Aniston, has made its way into the top 10 most popular movies on Peacock. The film falls just short of M. Night Shyamalan's Old, which is enjoying success while Trap is still playing in theaters, but beats out both Men in Black sequels and also the Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock rom-com, The Proposal. In addition to Aniston and Sandler, Just Go With It also stars Nicole Kidman, Brooklyn Decker, Nick Swardson, and Dan Patrick, and currently sits at a dismal 19% score from critics but a 59% rating from general audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

One of the great things about being Charles Barkley is that you get to change your mind.
The all-time NBA great and analyst on TNT’s Inside the NBA told Dan Patrick this morning that, despite previously saying he would retire after the 2024-2025 season, he has had discussions with the three newly-crowned NBA rights holders about staying on TV.
“Everything is on the table,” Barkley told Patrick about whether he might take his talents to NBC or Amazon or ESPN. The league last week announced it had sealed a new 11-year rights deal with Amazon as well as NBCUniversal and Disney-espn, leaving Warner Bros. Discovery’s TNT out in the cold.
The comments to Patrick came just hours after Barkley ripped the league for putting “money over the fans” in the negotiations. “It just sucks,” the social media-challenged analyst declared in a statement posted in his name to X.

Craig Kilborn had a successful run as host of The Late Late Show, but left in 2004 due to feeling unfulfilled with late-night TV. Kilborn's departure wasn't due to conflict, but a desire to leave the repetitive late-night format; he enjoyed retirement with wine and good food. Kilborn now hosts a comedy podcast, The Life Gorgeous, showcasing his wit and vast knowledge in a freewheeling, ever-changing format.
Craig Kilborn is a Renaissance man when it comes to his body of work, appearing as a sports commentator, comedian, actor, and host of The Late Late Show. Kilborn's first introduction to national audiences came when he appeared as an anchor on ESPN's SportsCenter, alongside hosts Rich Eisen, Keith Olbermann, and Dan Patrick, where he introduced his deadpan style of comedy and rapid-fire wit to morning audiences. Not content with sports talk, Kilborn moved onto late-night TV, taking over the brand new The Daily Show as host.

Cheating pays — for Bart and Homer, that is. This Sunday’s episode of “The Simpsons” takes on sports cheating, college admissions scandals (like “Varsity Blues”) and more, as father and son become kings of the blue-collar sports circuit. But in “Do the Wrong Thing,” Marge soon suspects that there’s something dishonest going on.
“It airs this Sunday right after the Cowboys/Dolphins game – a good lead-in and also sort of appropriate since the episode is about cheating and I suspect the NFL game will be won by cheating,” quips episode writer Joel H. Cohen.
Dan Patrick makes a guest voice appearance in the episode, which is timely given the recent University of Michigan football sign-stealing cheating scandal, and other allegations of cheating in smaller contests. In the B-story, Lisa attempts to get into summer camp, and that storyline plays with the headlines about college admissions cheating scandals.

On December 5, House Speaker Mike Johnson delivered a speech at this year’s National Association of Christian Lawmakers gala.
During his speech, he thanked the event’s organizers for not inviting any reporters, though it has not been made clear if he knew that the event’s organizer would record and post a video of the gala on his Facebook page.
“I’ll tell you a secret since the media’s not here,” Johnson told them.
His secret was that he had many conversations with God in the lead-up to the speaker role with which he was anointed.
“The Lord impressed upon my heart a few weeks before this happened that something was going to occur,” he said. “And the Lord very specifically told me in my prayers to prepare but to wait. I had this sense that we were going to come to a Red Sea moment in our...

Sports fans tend to feel proprietary about their heroes, as if stars owed us more than the heroics and physical sacrifice they provide on the field or court.
